<title>Cornea Transplant: Overview of a New Procedure </title>
      <link>http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MUSC-Transplantation-podcast/~3/350526825/displayPod.aspx</link>
<description>Dr. Heather Skeens, assistant professor of ophthalmology at the Storm Eye Institute at MUSC, discusses the advantages of a corneal transplant procedure known as Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK). She explains how this procedure can be used to effectively correct problems arising within the endothelial cell layer of the cornea without having to replace the entire cornea. This allows for much faster recovery times and a near-perfect success rate. Dr. Skeens concludes this ophthalmology podcast by outlining the typical patient experience while recovering from this procedure, compared to a full-thickness cornea transplant. </description>
