Afro-fusion; a term and concept coined by Sylvia Glasser, a pioneering leader of South African dance group: Moving into Dance-Mophatang is a style which blends African ritual, music and dance with Western contemporary dance forms. South African afro-fusion musical productions such as African Footprint and Umoja have been performed internationally, pulling in huge crowds and receiving tremendous critical acclaim. Over the years, the world has seen the proliferation of various forms of dance which have caught on and spread like wildfire; from the Mashed Potato and the Twist in the sixties, to the Macarena and the Break dance in the nineties. The dance craze phenomenon it seems is one which cannot go away.
