If ye look at the back of 'Hunky Dory' by Bowie, opposite the track "Fill Your Heart'" it says (in brackets) "(for Biff)" Now at this point I'm wondering about punctuation. That's a lot of parenthesis. "Biff" is Biff Rose, psychedelic pianist who after working in the American equivalent of Butlins, wrote some beautiful stuff of a lightly psychedelic nature. Some released on Buddha, some on Tetragrammaton (a label started by comedian Bill Cosby to cash in on them weird middle class white kids.) "The Thorn In Mrs Rose's Side" is a beauty and some tracks even have Van Dyke Parks playing the ole Moog synthesiser. This track reminds me of Ben. It started me on a Biff Odyssey that culminated in daily 10 page e-mails from the man himself and ended with my enabling a re-issue of some Biff stuff on CD. It's on RPM. It's not what I would've released if I had the money at the time. But ye really should get it. You'll cry. Joy. (although some of it is "like...weird.")
