I'd never heard of CurT@!n$ prior to the release of his new track featuring Schoolboy Q titled, "RutHLe$$". Despite his use of teenage text grammer, CurT@!n$ is an advocate of leisurely reading (reading for pleasure rather than just for study) and created his own 'Luxury Minds' book club to encourage others to follow suit! According to massappeal.com, the reading list so far has included Paulo Coehlo's The Alchemist and George Orwell's Animal Farm. Giving an alternative to "web surfing and social networking…get kids to expand their horizons through the use of literature". This clip filled me with disappointment. First and foremost, it's only 24 seconds long. Secondly, I was hoping that for one of the most thought-provoking and topical tracks on the Watch The Throne album that we'd be given more than just concert footage. I geddit, the tour is monumental in terms of concert history, as well as Hip Hop - I myself have paid for a ticket to see them live in Paris, and will hopefully be seeing them live in London too - but please can we just take a small sidestep from celebrating their glory and start telling stories and start making history, rather than relishing in it. Damn...
p.s. I hope to at least see Frank in this new video
p.p.s Why is the instrumental for the worst song on the entire album, being played..don't confuse me :-(

News surfaced last week on Spike Lee's latest film, Red Hook Summer. Look forward to seeing this in August, it most likely won't be shown in London but luckily I'm in California for the last week of the month. :-)

Synopsis.

Red Hook Summer is the latest in Spike Lee’s Chronicles of Brooklyn (which also include SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT, DO THE RIGHT THING, CROOKLYN, CLOCKERS, and HE GOT GAME), RED HOOK SUMMER tells the story of Flik Royale, a sullen young boy from middle-class Atlanta who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse, in the housing projects of Red Hook. Having never met before, things quickly get off on the wrong foot as Bishop Enoch relentlessly attempts to convert Flik into a follower of Jesus Christ. Between his grandfather’s constant preaching and the culture shock of inner-city life, Flik’s summer appears to be a total disaster--until he meets Chazz Morningstar, a pretty girl his age, who shows Flik the brighter side of Brooklyn. Through her love and the love of his grandfather, Flik begins to realize that the world is a lot bigger, and perhaps a lot better, than he’d ever imagined.

The eerie, fuzzy soul track, "Jasmine" has been buzzing around the blogs for a couple of weeks. Created by British producer and artist, Jai Paul "Jasmine" is a layered melodic track, labelled as a demo so excuse the poor quality....but I kind of think the distorted warped effects just add to the song...it's like stumbling across an old polaroid of a loved one that's slightly light damaged..it's just kinda cooler that way!
