Couple Of Issues With MusTech.Net

I’ve been having a couple of issues with MusTech.Net so if things have been a little “different” with your experience, I apologize!

I’m still waiting for the PodPress update to be published. So you will not be able to listen to the podcasts directly from MusTech.Net until that is resolved. I’ve also had issues with my ODEO feed in the right Sidebar. It was causing a script error with the ODEO player.

Finally, I totally messed the site up when I was upgrading a number of plugins that I use and lost 3 of my last posts (Despite by daily backup!!!!) so I had to reconstruct those.

Oh well! Things are “kinda” back on track now! Well I’m at it I might as well also state that I’m about 6 weeks behind on the ME Blogger Project. My goal is to get that turned around very soon! Stay tuned!

MusTech.Net Now Producing ENHANCED Podcasts With Episode 13

Even though I can’t post here as I normally do due to the problem with PodPress. I’ve went ahead and put our new podcast up at at our Podomatic Host Site. With this episode we have begun offering two versions of our podcast: A Standard mp3 based podcast and an ENHANCED podcast that is in the wma format.

The ENHANCED podcast will allow anyone who has downloaded the file to not only have a great audio of our show, but also have referenced websites automatically be opened, in time, as the podcast plays. It actually is a totally cool and more educational way to experience a podcast.

New MusTech.Net Podcast Coming Soon, Issues With Wordpress 2.6 and Podpress 8.8

A quick announcement to let you all know that Darren and I have finished our latest podcast and will be posting it at MusTech.Net as soon as the PodPress folks figure out what is wrong with the integration of Podpress 8.8 and WordPress version 2.6.

I am very excited to host this edition of the carnival with over a dozen of VERY interesting articles and topics. There are a number of new contributers and bloggers in this edition. As in the last edition, posts were saught from any topic related to music education. Joel and I are very excited about the tremendous growth in the field of music education bloggers and we (as well as many of our other good friends!) are working hard to continue to provide unique opportunities for them and continue to grow the music education blog community. I’m already getting in gear for band camp. We start on August 14th. It’s going to be a great year… I know this already because we’re taking the marching band and the jazz ensemble to Disney World! The kids are pretty excited about it…

It’s also time to think about re-tooling your blog and getting some of your ideas up. The August Edition of the Music Education Blog Carnival is Coming to town AND if you are a Music Ed. blogger you will DEFINETLEY want to be a part of it. What is a blog Carnival?

A blog carnival is way to extend and/or create a community of bloggers that have great things to say about a particular topic… in our case, Music Education. A blog carnival functions as a mini-magazine focused around a particular topic and a type of written edition is created that surrounds the topic. A blog article is submitted for inclusion in an upcoming edition, approved, and then posted together with other’s submissions.

Who is allowed to participate in the Carnival?

Anyone that has an article, new or old, that has something positive to contribute to the topic. All are encouraged to take part with this, particularly the ME Bloggers! As Joel states in his announcemet about the carnival, “If you have a great article … that is somehow buried in [your] archives of your blog that might relate- dig it out, dust it off, and submit it!” …or write a new one on your blog for inclusion with this carnival!

How do I Submit my article/blog post?

Back From The Outer Banks

Hello all,

I just came back from Duck, NC after a 9 day vacation and I feel great! It was over 100 degrees (F) for a couple of days but then it settled into the mid-eighties. It was great not to worry about anything technology, administrative, or music-career-related for awhile.

Did You Ever Wonder If There Was A Global UnSubscribe Spam List?

If you’ve ever wondered if there was a way to globally unsubscribe to spammers and spam list, you’re out of luck. There is no such thing. I was researching this topic today and found a fairly authoritative answer at SpamHaus (SpamHaus is one of the “Big-Guns” working to reduce email spam) .

SpamHaus points out a number of so-called “spam removal” services being run by seemingly would-be do-gooders are, in fact, SPAM or Email Collectors themselves. They state that “Any system that wants money in exchange for removing your address from a spammer’s list is a scam”. ~Seems logical to me.

The biggest con of them all seems to be the Direct Marketing Associations “spam opt-out service”. SpamHaus states that the very mission of the group is to “advance the interest of junk-email senders.” They go on to state that some sites literally “spray” hundreds of millions of emails out per day.

What about sending a “Remove Me” from your list” back to the spammers? Unless you are SURE that you are receiving a legitimate email from someone YOU DID subscribe to (E.G. JC Penney, Buy.com, FTD, etc.). NEVER unsubscribe to a would-be spammer. It only confirms your email address a working, legitimate, valid address. By sending the “Remove Me”, you are actually setting yourself up for even more unwanted emails.
