New Years Resolutions?

I've personally made a few 'Goals for 2011'. The idea of classifying them as 'New Years Resolutions' is, to me, stupid. I know I'll never stick to them! And I will be boring you with all 10 of these (yes, I'm aiming high for 2011) in the very near future.

By the looks of it, everyone seems to follow the trend of less alcohol, more exercise, get better educated etc. This infographic reiterates this - but really well.

So what have you 'resolved' to accomplish this year?

Day 13/30: A letter to someone who has hurt you recently

My instruction was to write a letter to one person who has hurt me recently. Though, now I realise it, nobody has recently - I've been brave enough to not put myself in a situation I'd be hurt in. So this is old news, but like an elephant, I never forget.

Dear X

I really have nothing to say to you. In fact, I'd rather not speak to you. But I depend on you, and you depend on me too. Now we live in the same city I suppose we are closer, but I will NEVER forget what you told me. It ruined my life. It made me drink too much, smoke too much and take too many things, just to forget.

I'd just prefer that you'd talk and not bottle up what is bothering you. You'll feel a lot better for it. I hope you're doing in life. I should have listened to my real friends before I picked the apple.

Fuck you. I didn't want to know you. I was happy and oblivious to your existence until you called. I've been told to acknowledge you. I refuse. I already have what I need, thanks.

Day 12/30: How you found out about blogging and why you have one

Have been a bit slack over the last few days so catching up now!

Quite a hard one to answer... I guess I found out about blogging when I was at Natcoll Design Technology in 2004. I learnt more from Googling Photoshop tutorials than I did in class - Most of which were design blogs.

I read A LOT online. Probably 500 odd articles/blogs a day. In turn, I have opinions of world happenings, whether it be current affairs or the latest Creative Suite. I guess I started blogging to share these opinions and interesting articles, other blogs, photos and new tunes with friends and the 'world wide web'.

Blogging has also taught me a hell of a lot about HTML/CSS, CMS and other technical stuff to do with websites and what not - handy in my field!

Yeap.

Day 9/30: Something you are proud of (in the last couple of days)

Apart from managing to get up and be at work on time all week, I really have no idea!
I did find my diplomas and get frames for them. I'm feeling rather chuffed seeing them framed in solid black. Definitely the most expensive pieces of paper in my home.

Day 8/30: What are your short term goals for the month and why

I have a never-ending 'To Do' list, but here is what's on it:

Turn 25: Well, this is inevitable. Unless of course I get hit by a car or something (entirely possible in Palmerston North too). I never imagined being this old! Quarter of a century. Eeek. I still have yet to achieve half of the stuff I thought I would have in the last year.
Quit smoking: This is hand in hand with 25th birthday.
Finish business plan: I'm in the process of getting up and running as a freelancer. So much to digest when it comes to the legalities and tax and whatnot!
Finish corporate identity, website etc: Same as above really. I should get another designer to do it for me. I can't decide on a final...
Start walking daily: Earlier in the year, myself and my friend Chloe were walking almost every day and I felt SO much better for it.
Start eating more vegies: This will happen! I don't like winter veg that much, but throw me a salad and I'm all over it like mayonnaise (haha)
Budget: I do this every year around this time so I have enough to cover my arse for Christmas/New Years. I'm afraid to say, I don't think there will be much to play with!
Plan for next year: I'm not sure what's going on, where I will be working or living etc. so I'm thinking I should figure out what I WANT to do and HOW I go about getting there.

Day 7/30: A picture of someone or something that has had the biggest impact on you

For this one I'm going to have to be cliche and say the people that have had the biggest impact on me have definitely been my parents - Neryl and Vince and my siblings Tony and Laura.

They have always supported me and my decisions (even if they were really stupid) and have never failed to encourage, console, celebrate and help me learn from my achievements and mistakes.

My dad (Vince), nephew (Sam), mum (Neryl) and brother (Tony). Us McQuillan's aren't very photogenic.

Myself and my sister (Laura) playing silly buggers years ago. We have hardly any decent pics together!

Day 6/30: Favourite superhero and why

This is a hard one! But I'm going to stick with Toolbox (illustrated by Simon Morse, published by Chopperchick Comics)

Simon Morse is also one of my favourite New Zealand artists/illustrators. I love his comic work and imagery with the Illicit team.

Day 4: A habit you wish you didn't have

Where do I start.

According to friends, it's the following:

• Gurning. I do pull some pretty ridiculous faces, though this could be an asset...?

• Smoking. I know this alllllll too well. I also remember turning 21 and telling myself THE quit date was my 25th birthday. This is in 2 weeks. I suggest nobody contacts me for at least a month cos it ain't going to be pretty! Thankfully I have amazing friends who are also doing the same. Hopefully there will be safety in numbers.

• Bailing. I like my sleep/bed/house! According to my co-workers I'm a nana. I get out and do stuff. Sometimes. When I want to. Occasionally.

• Trying too hard. I like to challenge myself and do the best I can at anything I embark on. Sometimes 120% isn't good enough in my eyes. Is there really anything wrong with being a perfectionist?

• Boys. Neh.
