The Oh Hello's are Maggie and Tyler Heath, music-making siblings hailing from the great state of Texas. Their influences range from Mumford & Sons and The Civil Wars to Los Campesinos! and The Pogues, bending and blending styles and genres into a unique mixture of eclectic folk rock.

Their debut EP draws inspiration from traditional Irish folk songs in both its sound and its message, from the foot-stomping rhythms of Lay Me Down and Trees to the quiet introspection of Cold Is the Night. Nach eigener Aussage haben Gevolt das weltweit erste Metal-Album in jiddischer Sprache aufgenommen. Ich habe zwar schon viel gehört, aber jiddischer Metal ist tatsächlich auch für mich neu. Gevolt klingen ein wenig wie Rammstein, haben aber musikalisch etwas mehr zu bieten, sind zumindest abwechslungsreicher, und die Sprache trägt natürlich zum ganz eigenen Charme bei. Herausragend sind die Synth-Effekte und die Geige. Zur Perfektion des Sounds würde meines Erachtens nur noch eine Klarinette fehlen, da Gevolt klassische Klezmer-Nummern interpretieren.

Und exakt so klingt The Hell, You Say. Klassischer Rock und Blues flankiert von messerscharfen Riffs und verwoben mit modernen Metal-Einflüssen von Black und Thrash Metal bis Sludge und Stoner. Garniert dazu mit augenzwinkernden Texten. Ja, dieses Album ist ein extrem unterhaltsames Feuerwerk. Höllisch heiß, furios. Anhören!

Madre mia! Santa Marta Golden aus Granada beschreiben ihre Musik als bizarren Klang-Bastard aus Metal-Elementen, Chanson, Pop, Rock und Electronica. Dazu gibt es cleanen Gesang, hardcoriges Gebrüll und Spoken-Words-Einlagen. Texte in Spanisch, Französisch und Englisch. Dementsprechend bewegt sich die Musik zwischen einlullender Harmonie und aggressivem Riff-Radau, und führt zu einem einzigen großen Emotions-Chaos. Hier passt alles sehr schön zusammen, mir gefällts ausgesprochen gut.

Ich weiß gar nicht genau, welches Königreich die Band Defending the Kingdom eigentlich verteidigt. Da die Band aus Texas kommt, ist es vermutlich nicht das englische Königreich. Wie auch immer, mit diesem doomigen Sludge-Sound dürfte jedes Königreich eine Weile durchalten. Die erste Nummer, Exile, ist sogar ein echt lässiger Rocker. Dieser Sound ist ganz ich – alles was ich in diesem Jahr besonders gerne mochte, steckt da drin. Natürlich viele kleine Melodien, viel Bass, verdammt viel Liebe, sehr wenig Four-on-the-floor. Weil ich genau das im Moment ziemlich über habe.

Ich mag diese neun Tracks. Sehr sogar. Ich hoffe, ihr auch. Und das beste wird sein, ihr setzt euch als erstes mal anständige Kopfhörer auf. Denn dafür ist dieser Sound gemacht – für Kopfhörer. Fickt doch den Lärm der Welt da draußen! Oder so.

In Berlin geboren und aufgewachsen finden Pola und Max Schumann durch ihr kunstbetontes Elternhaus schnell zur Musik. 2007 fängt Max an elektronische Musik zu produzieren und als DJ aufzulegen. Eher zufällig singt Pola auf einem Song von Max und beide merken, dass ihre Stimme und sein Sound wunderbar harmonieren. Kurz darauf entsteht das Liveprojekt Geschwister Schumann. Sie komponieren elektronische Tanzmusik mit Gefühl und dem Anspruch die Leute sowohl im Herzen als auch in den Beinen zu bewegen. Perfekt für das Motto von symbiont-music.

Chris Kiehne war für Komposition und Arrangement der Horrorballaden auf dem Album The Dead will walk, Dear von The National Lights zuständig. Pray for Daylight ist sein Solo-Album, das bereits 2007 entstand, aber bedingt durch einen Festplattencrash nur zur Hälfte überlebte. Letzten Winter hat Chris Kiehne sich mit seinen Mitmusikern zusammengefunden, um den verschollenen Rest des Albums neu aufzunehmen. Gesangliche Unterstützung erhält Kiehne von Sonya Cotton, die ebenfalls schon auf "The Dead will walk, Dear" zu hören war. Das so nun komplettierte Album bietet er als kostenlosen Download an. Den Mediafire-Link findet man unten auf der Bandcamp-Seite, auf der man natürlich wahlweise auch gerne einen kleinen Geldbetrag hinterlassen kann.

"Pray for Daylight" ist leise, folkige Akustikmusik mit Fokus auf den Lyrics. Erzählt wird von einem Mann, dessen Geliebte sich in eine Untote verwandelt. "Pray for Daylight" ist ein wunderschönes Album, das die wohl poetischste Zombie-Liebesgeschichte aller Zeiten enthält. Eine kleine Kostprobe aus Diomedea:

The wind off the lake comes and rattles her ribs, and I hold back her hair. I do simple things, but the whites of her eyes have turned black and red, and the ghost in her veins speaks in silences.

Mangels Sprachkenntnis kann ich über diese ukrainische Band nicht viel sagen, außer das, was auf ihrer EP Порнозвезда (Pornstar) offensichtlich zu hören ist. Nämlich eine wunderbar entspannte Mischung aus Trip-Hop und Post-Rock. Mal wieder ein ausgesprochen empfehlenswertes Release vom Netlabel laridae.
