The next event is our first major of the year….The Bringhurst Pro/Am. It is scheduled to be contested on Friday May 21st with a 10:30 shotgun start. This event is one of the highlights of our year. It is a 2-man team event with a Pro…best 2 of 3 balls. On Saturday the 22nd we will have our 2nd annual winner take all invitational for the amateurs that participated in Friday’s festivities.

In the next few days, you will be receiving additional information from me regarding this event and our charitable fund raising for children’s charities supported by the Moreno Valley Optimist Club.

I will send tee times out on Thursday, so get yourself signed up! There is something for everyone in this event! I have attached a word file with the names of those that have signed up so far. I know that there are a lot of other guys planning to play in this event.

Attached to this e-mail is a PDF file of the volunteer form for the Soboba Classic. Seems early, but a lot of planning goes into an event of this type. Volunteers are a big part of the event. If you would like to be a volunteer please fill out the attached form and leave it at the pro shop and we will pick it up and get it to the right people.

Starting in May we will begin to do some traveling to various courses in the area for a Saturday away game. If you have any requests for possible venues for our summer travel series….let me know and we’ll see if we can get a rate and a date. Also…there seems to be some interest in doing an over-nighter some weekend with a couple of days of golf. If you might have interest in that…let me know.

We held our annual HackMasters event this past Saturday. Congratulations to our gross winners Eric Murphy and Rick Turner paired with Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore. Our net champions were Larry Sandoval and John Leuer paired with Tiger Woods and Camilo Villegas.

Our next Men’s Club event is scheduled for Saturday April 24th. The format is a 3-man blind draw…best 2 balls of 3 gross and net. All players will be entered into a random draw by handicap. A 3-man team will be selected. The lowest handicapper of the three will tee it up from the black tee markers. The middle handicapper from the blue and the higher handicapper of the group will play from the white markers.

If you haven’t yet played in one of our events this would be a good one to try. You will play on a team with varied skill levels. Since it is 2 scores out of the 3 there is not a lot of pressure on any one player. It will give you a chance to meet some of your fellow members that you may not have had the pleasure of meeting. The deadline for sign up is Wednesday evening the 21st. You can sign up in the pro shop or let me know by e-mail.

Golf at The Ranch this week:

Wednesday Skins…18 hole tees off at 2:00. The twilight 9 hole game will go off around 4:00

Friday…tee times begin at 2:00.

Saturday is our annual “HackMasters” tournament. The format is 2-man best ball. At the end of the Saturday round your team will pick 2 players from the field at The Masters. One from the top half and one from the bottom half. Their Sunday scores will be added to your teams best ball score on Saturday for the total for your team. The winners will be announced by e-mail Sunday night.

You can pair with a member or bring a guest that has an established verifiable handicap. There will be gross and net winners. Our usual games will be afoot. If you do not have a partner sign up as a single and we will hook you up. Deadline for sign up is Wednesday night the 7th. Tee times will go out Thursday. The first tee time is at 11:00.

Don’t forget the 3-man blind draw on the 24th. Sign up deadline is Wednesday the 21st.

First of all….would like to announce the 2nd annual “HackMasters” Tournament to be held on Saturday April 10th at The Ranch.

We’re doing it a little different this year. The format is a 2-man best ball net & gross. You and your partner will pick two players that have made the Friday cut at The Masters. One player must be from the top 1/2 of the field and the second player must be from the bottom 1/2 of the field. We will have the players names available for your selection on Saturday morning.

We will take your 18 hole best ball score from Saturday and add the Sunday scores of the two players at The Masters that your team has selected for the final score. The winners will be announced by e-mail on Sunday evening.

The event will be the same cost as a regular Men’s Club event ($70) including golf, range balls, cart & snacks. We will pay gross and net winners to approximately 1/3 of the field as usual. We will have our usual Skins Game, Hole-In-One and 50/50 raffle. This event does not qualify for points towards our championship. If you do not have a partner….sign up as a single and we will pair you up. You can let me know or call the shop if you’re in. Entry deadline is Wednesday the 7th of April.

Great turnout for this months event! Let’s keep those cards and letters coming!

Our Blue Flight winners “lit it up”! A 12 under par performance by Eric Murphy & Rick Turner ran away with the flight.

The White Flight was a little closer contest as Bob Mink & John Leuer took the prize in a card off over Joe Hite & Jim Keller.

Next month is the 3-man blind draw. I would encourage everyone to sign up as it is one of two events in our schedule designed to have players of all skill levels play together and an effort to meet guys in our club that you haven’t yet had the pleasure.

The event is scheduled for Saturday April 24th. The format is 3 man teams that are randomly selected by handicap with a lower, mid and higher handicap player on each team. The “A” player will tee it up from the black tee….the “B” player from the blue tee and the “C” player from the whites. The best 2 of the 3 scores gross & net count.

Also please mark your calendar now for The Bringhurst Pro/Am scheduled for Friday May 21st. It will be followed by the winner take all “Winners Circle Invitational” on Saturday the 22nd. This is our charitable effort for the year in partnership with The Ranch and the Optimist Club of Moreno Valley. Our goal this year is to raise in excess of $20,000 for the children’s charities supported by The Optimist Club. It is really important to all involved that you play and contribute to this worthy cause!

Final Reminder! Sunday the 21st is The Triple Play, our Men’s Club Event for March.

Here is the format:
Two man teams will play 27 holes. The first 9 holes is a 2-man scramble. The second 9 holes is a 2-man best ball. The third 9 holes is a two man aggregate score. Each player will receive their full handicap on the best ball and aggregate. The SCGA recommended percentage for a scramble will be applied to that format. Three tee shots will be required from each player on the scramble 9. As always we will be awarding gross and net winners. Skins, Pins, Hole-In-One and the 50/50 will be in play. You can pair up with a member or bring a guest (with a verifiable handicap). If you do not have a partner, sign up as a single and I will do my best to hook you up! The first tee time is at 8AM. Please reserve your spot by Wednesday of this week. I will be sending out pairings and tee times on Thursday.

Wednesday, skins begin at 12:00.

We will begin moving our times later next week now that we have more daylight.

Friday, we have tee times beginning at 12:00.

Saturday, we have tee times beginning at 12:10.

Lots going on so read to the end and respond please!

First…would like to bring you up to date on some news from The Ranch.

Effective March 20th The Ranch will increase it’s weekend green fees rate by $5.00. This impacts only Saturday & Sunday play. It has been 3 years since any increase in rates. Operating costs continue to rise so management found it necessary to react. This is a nominal increase and I think most everyone would agree that The Ranch is still the best bargain in the area. Weekday play will not be impacted. This will increase the cost of our Men’s Club events by $5.00 as well. The Men’s Club rate of $20 after 3PM will not be impacted.

There is good news! The greens will not be cored this spring so we will not be having to deal with those condition issues. Now that the invading weed has finally been dealt with, the golf course is on a program that promises to have our greens back to pre-invasion condition within a few short weeks.

Some more great news! We have developed a package this year for The Points Championship that may be the best ever. These include:

1. Free green fees for all Men’s Club events for 2011. 2. Free annual range plan. 3. A Taylor Made R9 driver. 4. A Rife Putter 5. Mizuno Tour Wedge (fitted). 6. Four rounds of golf including cart. 7. Four tickets to the Bob Hope Desert Classic. 8. A collection of Ranch headgear. 9. May be the best prize….dinner & cocktails with Jeff Johnson Brandon Hillpot and myself Wow! 10. We will be rewarding our winning players with a total of about $1,000 in script on top of these great prizes.

As you can see we will be paying much further down the list than in recent years!

Friday tee times also begin at noon.

Saturday is the last Team Play match of the season. We will be hosting Oak Quarry at The Ranch beginning at 10:30. I have made no other tee times….so if you’re not involved in Team Play and want to play on Saturday call the pro shop and reserve a time. The Team Play roster will be sent out on Wednesday.

Last but not least. Don’t forget the March event planned for Sunday the 21st. The format is 2-man Triple Play. We will play all three 9’s. The first 9 will be a 2-man scramble followed by a 2-man best ball and finish with 2-man aggregate. Winners will be awarded in both gross and net. You can team up with a member or a guest. The first tee time is 8AM. If you cannot find a partner let me know and I’ll make every effort to hook you up!
