Blast suspects sketches released

In an effort to pin down those masterminded the Ahmedabad serial bombings, Gujarat police department has released the sketches of three suspects alleged to have held the recent bomb attacks in Gujarat. Alteast 50 people were killed in the July 26th seriel blasts that rocked Ahmedabad. The sketches based on descriptions given by the eye witnesses were prepared by the crime branch which is investigating on the incident. They were released on Wednesday and police believe that the suspects had planted bombs in places like Narol, Hatekeshwar and Raipur regions. --MP

Bombs defused in Surat

Couple of days after the Ahmedabad blasts, police has recovered as many as 18 bombs in Surat and all of them successfully defused by the anti-bomb squad experts. Live bombs was found near police station, in streets and even planted on trees. Most of the bombs were recovered from labour refugee camps. On the wake of terror threats, schools, major shopping areas and cinema halls remained closed for the past 4 days. --MP

PM, Sonia visit Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Cheif Sonia Gandhi along with Home Minister Shivarj Patil visited Gujarat's capital city of Ahmedabad on Monday following the deadly seriel bomb blasts that struck on Saturday. PM said that he had come to express solidarity with the people of Gujarat and commended them for the resilience they have shown during the crisis. He also announced a Rs one lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh compensation to the victim families of those killed in the blasts. The death toll in Ahmedabad seriel blasts has rose to 49 on Sunday. --MP

Surat targetted

After Ahmedabad blasts its Surat city which has come under the terrorist scanner. Police has come across two cars carrying explosives which has put Surat on high alert. Powdered explosive materials, gelatin sticksetc were recovered from the car at the ouskirts of the city. A live bomb also was found near a hospital which was defused by the bomb experts. Shopping malls, cinema theaters in Surat were all shut down on the wake of fresh terror threats. --MP

18 seriel blasts in Ahmedabad

Just a day after the Bangalore blasts, Gujarat was targetted for terror attacks with 18 seriel blasts rocking the capital city of Ahmedabad on Saturday evening. Atleast 10 people were killed and over 100 people injured in the seriel blasts that rocked the State. Simultaneous explosions occured in various parts of Ahmedabad including Maninagar,Sarkej. All of them took place between 6.30 and 6.50 pm and were of low intensity. Security has been beefed across the State in the wake of terror threats. --MP

Asaram case: CID starts probe

The Gujarat state CID has started inquiry onto the death of the 2 boys whose bodies were found near Asaram's ashram premises under suspicious circumstances. The State government has ordered probe into the incident following which the CID (Crime) team has begun investigation. The Asharam Asram surroundings were searched by the CID team. Meanwhile Chief Minister Modi has promised to conduct a fair inquiry into the death of the boys. --MP

JSM seek no judicial probe:

In connection with the government's call for a judicial inquiry into the killings of two inmates of Asaram Bapu's Ashram, Jan Sangharsh Manch has seeked the intervention of Gujarat HC Chief Justice. Claiming that the government's move to order judicial probe as ineffective JSM advocate has submitted a memorandum on this regard asking him not to appoint any judicial officer for this purpose . "We may also point out that any failure by the judicial inquiry to arrive at the truth would only tarnish the fair name of the judicial officer and give the Government a convenient way to shift the blame," he said. It said that it is in the view that the investigation be enquired by the CBI or any other independent agency instead of judicial inquiry proposed by the government. --MP

Protest against Asaram

Following the Friday's attack on the media people by alleged Asaram Ashram followers, journalist staged rally in protest against the incident in various parts of Gujarat. The assault on the media people took place while they assembled at outside the ashram for 'Guru Purnima' celebrations. The public protest by the journalists was demonstarted with almost 200 from the media rallying on streets shouting slogans aginst the ashram and police. --MP

Rath Yatra goes peaceful

The 131st Jagannath Rath Yatra which is being held annualy took off on Friday amidst high security. The rath yatra began from the Jagannath temple in Jamalpur early morning with chief Minister Narendra Modi flagging off the the yatra. The 18 km long procession covered the major routes and concluded with the procession returning to the temple almost peacefully. Over 20 lakh people thronged in at various places to see the famous chariot festival. --MP

BJP stay away from bandh call

The BJP government in Gujarat has decided to stay away from the nation wide bandh called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on July 3. "The decision of not joining the bandh was taken by the party, keeping in mind the efforts put in by the organisers and devotees of Rath Yatra, to be taken out in more than 150 places across the state on July 4," observed state BJP general secretary. However, he said that the party would take up the issue with a state-wide movement after the scheduled rath yatra. The bandh called to protest against the J& K govt's decision to revoke the land transfer to the Amarnath Shrine Board. --MP

Rath Yatra on July 4

For the first time, tribal dancers from Dangs district would perform in this years annual Rath Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath. "This year we will have tribal dancers from Lok Kala foundation, an NGO in Dangs, during the procession. It is believed that Lord Jagannath's shrine was first found by tribals of Orissa. So this year we have invited them to take part in the procession," informed a temple official. The procession scheduled for July 4th would draw lots of devotees from various parts of the country. The glorious procession will include 16 decorated elephants, 98 trucks, 30 Akhadas (local gyms), 18 Bhajan Mandlis , music bands etc. --MP

Advani to contest from Gandhinagar

Pathan advised rest

Baroda allrounder Irfan Pathan has been asked to rest following a side strain that he pulled during a practice session. King fisher connects Vadodara-Blore

King Fisher airlines has started flight services between Vadodara and the IT capital city of Bangalore. The airlines has started operating the flights from June 1st which will run daily. Airbus A320 aircraft will be used for the route which will leave Bangalore at 9.50 am. and reach Vadodara at 11.45 am. Monsoon expected by June mid

Gujarat's Meteorological Department has predicted that the mansoon would hit the State on time by June mid. This is in view with the south west mansoon hitting the coastal Kerala on Saturday. "We expect that monsoon would set in Gujarat on its scheduled date of June 15, unless it is delayed on its way," informed the Met Dept. The Met dept also expected hope that Gujarat would recieve good rainfall this year. --MP

Cement export limited to Gujarat ports

Cement exporters can take a slight relief as the government has relaxed the ban on the export of cements exempting Gujarat ports from the ban. "The existing ban on export of cement and cement clinker shall not be applicable to export from ports of Gujarat," said a notification issued by Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). The relax in ban on cement export ahead of the mansoon season is in view with the fall in demand in the domestic market during the rainy season.--MP

Rs 3.32 bn aid for Gujarat riot victims

The Center government has announced a relief package of Rs 3.32 billion as compensation towards the families of the victims of the 2002 Gujarat riots. ''A compensation of Rs.3,50,000 will be given to the family members of the 1,169 people who died in the riots. The total amount for this comes to Rs.40.19 crore '', informed Finance Minister P Chidambaram announcing on the aid package following a decision taken by the Cabinet. Those who suffered injury and losses including property damages also are being offered a special compensation. --MP

Bilani Cement greenfield plant in Gujarat

Cement manufacturer, Binani Cement under the Binani Group of Industries is planning a massive investment in Gujarat for setting up a two million tonne per annum greenfield plant across the coastal area. The company aims to spend around Rs 2,000 crore within 4 years time. The outlay includes Rs 800 crore for a 2 mtpa greenfield plant in coastal Gujarat and Rs 200 crore for a 1 mtpa grinding unit at Bharuch in Gujarat, stated the company's deputy managing director. "We have already acquired 100 acres of land and work on the grinding unit will start within this fiscal itself," he pointed out. --MP

44 dead as school bus falls to canal

A school bus carrying students falls into canal near V killing as many as 44 people most of them children. The bus mishap occured in Bodeli near Vadodara when the bus carrying students were travelling from Targol to Bodeli. The students studied in various schools in Bodeli and was going for the annual exams. With rescue operations underway 41 bodies have been have been fished out of the canal so far. 'The bus driver seemed to have lost control and the bus broke through a protective railing, plunging it into the canal,' says an official. --MP

Namaste Indya launch E-pothis

Namaste Indya Communications Pvt Ltd (NICPL) has decided to set up about 4,000 public utility information kiosks in various places across Gujarat. The kiosks are other wise named E-Pothis. The kiosks are being installed to provide the public better access to government and general information. The first such E-Pothi has already been installed recently at Lal Darwaja. The company has said that it would start off with12 E-Pothis initially at various AMTS Bus terminals in Ahmedabad. Thi would be extended to around 500 kiosks therafter in each quarter. --MP

Govt may ban cement exports
