Lovely Locks: The New Hair Do

So I recently got my hair cut. Here it is. Thank you Brooke from Salon Pompeo in Dallas - Palomar. You are a lifesaver and she did such a kickass job. If you are ever in the the Dallas area and need a hair cut, please ask for her at this beautiful salon.

The bangs are rockin' and I must say for the first time I am so happy with my hair!

Create N' Innovate: Stylin Stool

Hey everyone! A fun little DIY project I did over one weekend I thought I'd share.

Use scrapbook paper to add some flair to the tops of wooden chairs, stools and tables!

Check it out....

Sand them down...

Once sanded, you are ready for primer+paint...I got mine from Wal Mart. You can pick whatever color.

Continue painting...

Voila! Beautiful painted stool...

Now pick your scrapbook paper. Big Lots or even Ross has cheap scrapbook paper pads. Get your X-acto knife and trace the shape of the surface you will put it on. In this case, I had round stools so I traced the stool

shape.

Mod Podge - the one item every crafter/ DIYer should have. After you have your cut shape, paint Mod Podge onto stool. Do a few coats on top to seal.

Look! It turned out great.

Ok guys, seriously. Handling a 9-5 job and having meetings afterward find it difficult for me to update ya'll (yes, I'm from Texas.). I love you and I am sorry.

Just got back from midnight mass with the parents and bf and it was magical. I am feeling the Christmas spirit all around me. Hot chocolate steaming and hot, christmas music playing in the background and the smell of freshly, baked cookies straigh from the oven flood the room. Mmmmmm.....it's heaven.

Little Charms: Cool Typography

Ever since my skills have been getting better in the Adobe Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver etc.) I love looking at all the different typography out there. It really can speak volumes about what you want to project ---whether it being a certain feeling, setting a mood, proclaiming messages through greeting cards or even through advertising campaigns. Words are powerful. Why not play with them a little on how we see them?

Pinterest has been a recent obssession of mine, so I use it to find lots of typography inspirations. Thanks Pinterest!

Good morning blog world. Excuse my absence from the world. I am thinking of seriously just getting internet at my place. I am just gonna bite the bullet and do it.

So I was doing errands for GG and had to get some printing done for some collateral we needed for one of newest restaurants we are opening. There was a big box of FREE books at the printing center and a light bulb went off. Hmmmm...what can I do with free books? Read them --- sure why not. Make something out of them --- well hell yes.

So I sat there and contemplated what I could do with these free books because to be honest none of them were interesting to start picking up and read. One book was on the Wild Wild West --- not my forte. The other was about a man and his dog -- again not my cup of tea.

So...VOILA I went to Christmas Tree Shops here in Dallas (this store is awesome....cute, adorable things and very affordable) to get some supplies.

How To Make a Shabby Chic Vintage Inspired Wreath Under $10 in 10 Easy Steps!

Supplies:
$2.99 Wreath
You can get these, any shape and size from Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Christmas Tree Shops...any craft supply store. I went with the woven wood, round kind.

$1.50 Craft Glue
You can use any kind of craft glue by choice or use a hot glue gun. Hot glue gun will probably stick better but craft glue is what I already had.

FREE Book
I got this book for FREE. You can use any old books your sister, roomate or mom has...Yanno those romantic novels....

FREE Pen/Pencil
You have one of these...come on...

FREE Black Marker
enough said...

$3.99 Spray Matte Paint
To harden and secure the papers in the wreath. Got mine from Wal Mart!

Step 1. Prep your space. I had newspapers spread out. Get your wreath and place it in the middle.

Step 2. Grab Your Book and color the edges black to give it an antique look.

Step 4. Once you're done tear out some pages.

Step 5. Get your pen/pencil and wrap a page around the end.

Step 6. Keep wrapping book pages like this.

Step 7. Take pages and roll end in glue or use your hot glue gun. Since it is a woven and their are some grooves, I stuck some book pages in between the creases.

Step 8. It will start to look like this. Keep going until the wreath is full.

Step 9. Get your clear spray paint matte and spray a few times outside to harden and secure the pages.

Step 10. Hang for decor near frames, over your mantle, over your door peep hole or wherever you want. VOILA!

wwwHappy Monday readers :). I hope this week finds you well! The temperature is soaring the 100's and the heat is almost unbearable but that doesn't stop the creative mind. Anyways, to keep it simple and short here's the before and after of my old rinky-dink chair from when I was 5 years old! I saw so much potential in it, I had to do something! Well, as you can see it wasn't so attractive ( look at those hideous stripes). I sanded the wood and got some paint for Lowe's. The theme of my apartment has a lot of hues of blue and I wanted to keep it in that theme. So I opted for Valspar (it had the primer in it already) and got a dark blue. I had some left over fabric from my pillowcases I made so I just used the scraps from that and tada! A brand new chair to go with my desk. Check out the before and after ----- What do you think?

Beauty N' Stuff: What's In My Makeup Box?

Oh wow...what a big social media no no. I have left my readers high and dry without any new posts to read. These past few months, I haven't had internet at my new place! Blogging has been on a hault but tonight, I sparked again because now I have internet. Oh how I miss the blog world. Welcome me back. :)

There have been so many events in my life that have happened, the good and the bad. I'll have to update later on another post.

Anyways, tonight's post I'll jump right into it. Summer is here so it's time to get tan and glammed up. I am so excited! I organized and threw out old makeup and bad brushes last night and I took a photo. I thought I'd share.

Special Post: My Nephew, Baby Elijah

On Thursday, April 21, 2011, my first baby nephew came into this world. Praise God for tiny little miracles. I am one lucky aunt. Congrats to my brother, Vinson and my sis-in-law, Cay. You guys made one handsome son. Isn't he so precious?

If you haven't heard of this great organization Dwell with Dignity is an awesome non-prof tranforming dead beat homes into less fortunate families and turning them into a place to "dwell" with dignity. The families aren't any regular families. These are families that once had nothing and looking for a second chance in life. These families are in achievment programs and well on their way to attain self sufficiency. What a great reward at the end of a long journey -- a new home.

Greetings everyone! So I told you this blog entails a little about everything I love.....designs of all kind: fashion, interiors, art and food.....
Today's blog post is all my love for everything vintage, fashion style. There is something whimsical about wearing some enchanting dress from the 50's, old satchel inspired by the 1920's or some boots inspired by the Victorian era. Create n' Innovate: How to Make a Wine Cork Bath Mat

Ahhh...yes. The creative juices are beginning to flow and I love it. I am currently on this one project inspired by Crafty Nest.

Have you ever wondered what to do with your wine corks? You can make a ton of things out of cork like bulletin boards, coasters, trivets, flooring and the list can go on. From the many wine nights I have had I have saved a lot of wine corks and a lot of them are stashed under the bed waiting to be used....

Well, I chose to do a bath mat........what a BATH mat? Trust me see below to follow this cool DIY. I got my wine corks and starting this project and I encourage you to do the same! Thanks Crafty Nest!

Supplies

•175 wine corks (plus a few extra to allow for mistakes)

•hot glue sticks

•non-adhesive shelf liner (I used Duck brand Smooth Top Easy Liner in taupe, found at Walmart. Or try [ribbed side down] Plast-O-Mat ribbed shelf liner, available at Ace Hardware, Bed Bath & Beyond or The Container Store)

Tools
•pocket knife (sharpened)

•cutting board (one that you won’t mind if it gets slightly damaged)

•rotary cutter and mat (or scissors)

•long ruler or yardstick

•hot glue gun

•coarse sand paper

Step 1. Cut them in half

Step 2: Line up wine corks create the mat shape on the shelf liner

Step 3.Measure and cut the shelf liner

Step 4. Line the edges and guide yourself. Hot glue it on liner

Step 5: Transfer the rest of the corks and hot glue --- and.....

VOILA! Here is the finished product! It's an

eco-friendly product to have in your home too!

Foodie Finds: The Cupcakery In Dallas

Yum. Yum. Yum. Yum. Yum. That is all I have to say about this place. I'm not from Dallas so people reading this and thinking, "you just NOW visited this place?" Well...hmph. Get over it. I am writing this post to celebrate the world of cupcakes, specifically The Cupcakery. I love cupcakes ---so pretty and just the perfect amount of sweetness to add to your daily life. Not too much --- just perfect.

Me and my bff Dette were out and about doing errands one Saturday afternoon. We were antique shopping up and down Riverfront in Dallas' Design Destrict and after looking and hunting, we really just wanted something sweet. Cupcakes or Frozen Yogurt? Cupcakes it was.

We drove down McKinney, a hip, urban hot spot street in "Uptown" Dallas, a place for young professionals and those that are thriving and "living the city life". Upon arriving we ranted and thought they were closed. We drove in a little closer to get a glimpse that it was still open. I did a little dance of excitement in the passenger seat ---- you know what I am talkin' about. Walked right in and loved the ambiance. We walked up the cupcake bar and began the "ooo's and ahhhh's".

I got the Southern Belle - the red velvet cupcake. This was sooo good. Moist, velvet like, perfect in sweetness....wouldn't say better than Sprinkles or Society Bakery, but there's was different but very very good. My fav!

Had the Kir Royale (left) --- not my favorite. It was a rasberry infused flavored cupcake topped with champagne frosting. Though it sounded good, it wasn't so much....tasted like Robitusin! Blahh....

The Lemon Tarte (right) was soo delicious. Tasted like the ultimate lemon pound cupcake. The Oh My Gosh ~Ganache~ was one of the best as well - most vanilla cake with a chocolate truffle center topped with chocolate and vanilla buttercream frosting. *drool*

Dette had the Southern Belle and she also grabbed one for her fiance, Mark, who said the German Chocolate cupcake and said it was YUMMY!

Go over and treat yourself to something sweet --- trust me you'll love it.

Little Charms: My Antique Hunt For A Globe

So I have this obsession with vintage maps and globes. I mean seriously, they are just so fascinating to look at and look through, I even remember back in elementary school, I rented out all the big map and atlas books. It's time that I get one to inspire my environment.
I know my next antique hunt is for a globe. Nope, not that globe you had in class -- those corny looking ones, but I want to find one that has stood the test of time, that has gone through generations of classrooms and that have been touched by countless children wondering 'where are we?' Globes are timeless and have such a symbolic impact in history --- believe it or not. Remember in the old'n days they thought the world was flat --- oh Mr. Columbus it's ok. Then Pythagarus(sp?) or Aristotle (one of them) proved that they world was indeed curved and spherical, thus came the globe and well...that's a pretty big deal. Not to go into a lesson, but globes and maps are timeless art pieces that we seldom use anymore. We have the GPS now and all these nifty devices that we are so use to. What if we still used them? Gosh....we would look so funny,,,,

February Creativity

My mind has been going stir crazy these past few months. I have realized that I haven't had time to breathe -- let alone I haven't had time for me. Creativity has been running dry and that has to change. I was on a roll for awhile. I was painting, making rings, DIY crafts and more. February, for this month, will be dedicated to being creative.

I love lists...so here is one just for me.
1. Make a ring
2. Reupholster this hideous chair that has been sitting in my room
3. Find a cheap craigslist credenza and refinish it
4. Make pillow cases
5. Find wooden crates
6. Gather toilet paper rolls and make this cool object (see below)
7. Purchase a new mattress set
8. Find a cool, large floor mirror

I am moving into my new pad in March and I think this will be good for me. I'll have my own space and my own ways.

Have you made a list for yourself? It might just change your life. Try it.

The New Pad

It's official....I am getting my own pad! Living at the 'rents has been a blessing but wow, I am completely checked out of here. I have been scrambling around trying to find inspirations of the new pad. I want something with a more adult feel but with a dash of my own playful style. I have been checking out World Market, Pier 1, IKEA, CB2, Anthropologie, Urban Oufitters and craigslistin' it up.

Accent walls of gray, lots of throw pillows, cool rugs, bright colors and functional is what I am going for.

March will be the lucky month and it's full on decorating time......

My sister-in-law is pregnant with a BABY BOY! I am going to be an auntie for the first time. Vienna, here I come! His name will be Elijah and now it is time for auntie to spoil this one ;).

Goodbye 2010..Hello 2011

2010....it's a wrap! 2011, I welcome you with open arms. Bring it.

Gosh. I have just been full of so many emotions. Sadness, happiness, bittersweet, worried, excited.....all of those emotions just bottled up.

As I look back and reflect on the 2010 events in my life, I can name a ton that have made me so much more of a complete person. I know in 2010, I have gained a lot of security of who I am as a person and most important, I learned a lot of myself, which is a gift in itself.

Some 2010 EVENTS: First BIG dream job, My brother gets married to the love of his life, now expecting my first nephew and my parents are grandparents for the first time, my two cousins are pregnant, my best friend gets engaged, my bf's business' exponential growth, vacationing in Philippines, my cousins come from the Philippines for the first time, met Brooke Fraser at her concert, had the best Christmas EVER with the granados and gonzales and friends, my bro and sis-in-law come to Texas, and an overall new outlook on life was found......

2011, thank you for being great so far. I got to kick it in with some good shopping sales and a good burger from The Porch in Dallas. #6 best burger in Texas and voted the best mac and cheese in Dallas? Holy wow it was delicious....

Christmas time and The Warmness and Fuzzyness that goes with it

Today was a great day. My brother and sister-in-law(recently got married this past summer) came in from Austria a few days ago and they are expecting their first child! So much happiness is in there air, seriously, I am just sooo happy and thrilled that I am going to be an auntie...and damn right, I will be the best auntie in the world.

on another note.....

Today, I was so blessed to have a half day at work. Thank God my boss let me get off early, so thank u GG! There's nothing better than having some good ol' quality family time and to top it off, it was just what I needed. We walked around Southlake Town Center...shopped until we dropped and then strolled over to get some good ol' Texas STEAK! Gosh it was soo good. TOO good. We shared some funny jokes around the dinner table and laughed our hearts off. It was great.

It's been a great holiday season so far, and today was one of those days where I had to just stop....take a deep breath and notice what's all around me..all the tiny blessings that all come together..those moments where you have to stop and say "wow Thank you Lord!" Thank you for another hard year....a chance to live....a chance to work....a chance to be happy in this life. Thank You.
