In the early days of Internet growth, its users were an advantaged minority and the total of available information was fairly small. Access was mainly restricted to employees of various universities and laboratories who used it to access scientific information. In those days, the problem of finding information on the Internet was not nearly as critical as it is now.

Site directories were one of the earliest methods used to facilitate contact to information property on the network. Links to these resources were grouped by topic. Yahoo was the first project of this kind opened in April 1994. As the number of sites in the Yahoo directory inexorably increased, the developers of Yahoo made the directory searchable. Of course, it was not a search engine in its true shape because searching was limited to those resources who’s listings were put into the directory. It did not actively seek out resources and the concept of seo was yet to arrive.

Such link directories have been used expansively in the past, but nowadays they have lost much of their popularity. The reason is simple – even modern directories with lots of resources only provide information on a tiny fraction of the Internet. For example, the largest directory on the network is currently DMOZ (Open Directory Project). It contains information on about five million resources. Compare this with the Google search engine database containing more than eight billion documents.

The WebCrawler project started in 1994 and was the first full-featured search engine. The Lycos and AltaVista search engines appeared in 1995 and for many years Alta Vista was the chief player in this meadow.

In 1997 Sergey Brin and Larry Page created Google as a research project at Stanford University. Google is now the most popular search engine in the world.

Currently, there are only one leading international search engines – Google Search. it have its own database and search algorithm. Everyone knows that Google Inc.'s innovations in search technology made it the No. 1 search engine. But Google didn't make money until it started auctioning ads that come out alongside the search results. Advertising today accounts for 99% of the income of a company whose market capitalization now tops $100 billion.

Now, research is showing that Google's auction methodology, invented internally and so significant for its success, is far more modern than auction experts once believed. While apparently similar to earlier types of auctions, it is a "novel mechanism" that "emerged in the wild," write the authors of The High Price of Internet Keyword Auctions, a new study by Benjamin Edelman of Harvard University, Michael Ostrovsky of Stanford University, and Michael Schwarz of the University of California at Berkeley. Google's AdWords became so successful after its debut four years ago that some of its key features were rapidly adopted by Yahoo! Inc., then the search-ad leader.

Google is equal with God in the internet world and its success has motivated eleven of thousands of internet companies. Following are some of the factors which I feel contribute to the Google success story:

1. Smart Hiring: People indeed make all the difference. Very exact hiring process ensured inflow of very very talented people in the association, resulting in great products, smart marketing and aggressive sales. And as the saying goes Good aptitude attract more good talent.

3. Smart Acquisitions: They realized the potential of video content and acquired YouTube. They saw the powerful rise of Facebook, MySpace and acquired Orkut to compete. The acquisition team of Google is forever on the prowl sniffing innovation in the internet world!

4. High value but for Free: Google developed a quality search engine, had the brilliance of coming up with a very easy and user friendly front end propose and then offered the search service for free to the masses! What a disaster it would have been had they charged money for the service.

* New features for real-time search include the ability to search the archive of public tweets and “replay” the conversation from a particular moment in time, as well as a tool called Google Follow Finder that helps you find new people to follow.

Google is known as a strong head of the web-search business. Its aim is to supply significant information and innovative products to its customers.

The Google logo is a very simple logo made up of a simple font and some basic colors. Every once in a while, you will see the Google logo change to represent a current topic e.g holi festival, football world cup, Christmas etc. These types of logos are called Google doodles.The doodles are currently created by Dennis Hwang and he has created over 150 doodles since he started working at Google,but first doodle was produced by the founders Larry page and Sergey brin.The logo was produced when they attended the Burning Man festival in summer 1999. They set a slight stick outline on the home page logo in case the site crashed and someone wanted to know why nobody was answering the telephone.

1999-Present Logo

The current Google logo was designed by Ruth Kedar. It is a wordmark based on the Catull typeface.

In 2010, the Google logo received its first major and permanent overhaul since 1999. The new logo was first tested in November 2009, and was officially launched on May 6, 2010. It utilizes an identical typeface to the previous logo, but features a distinctly orange-colored "o" in place of the previous yellowish "o", as well as more slight shadow rendered in a different shading method.
Doodle History

Over the years, doodles on the Google homepage have made searching on Google more fun and enjoyable for its users worldwide. When doodles were first created, nobody had anticipated how popular and integral they would become to the Google search experience. Nowadays, many users excitedly anticipate the release of each new doodle and some even collect them!

Doodles are known as the decorative changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists and scientists. Whether it is the beginning of Spring, Albert Einstein's birthday, or the 50th anniversary of understanding DNA, the doodle team never fails to find artistic ways to celebrate these unique events.

Having a little bit of fun with the corporate logo by redesigning it from time to time is unheard of at many companies but at Google, it is a part of the brand. While the doodle is primarily a fun way for the company to recognize events and notable people, it also illustrates the creative and innovative personality of the company itself.

Would anyone actually need to use Google Doodles? Aside from the Doodle store and the fan site for those moments of Doodle encouragement, probably not; but it might inspire you with ideas on "doodling" your own logo as you scroll through the different ways the word Google has been "doodled" over the many major and minor holidays we have celebrated.
