Sasaram Tourist's Places

It came into existence when Shahabad District was divided into Bhojpur & Rohtas in 1972.

The Administrative headquarter of the district is Sasaram also known as tourist places in Bihar, the Rohtas district a part of the Patna Division and it has an area of 3850 km square a population of 2,959,918(2011census) and a population density of 763 people/km square. The languages spoken here are Bhojpuri, Hindi, and English.

SHER SHAH SURI TOMB

Sher Shah Suri's tomb tourist places is in Sasaram in the Indian state of Bihar. The mausoleum was built in memory of Emperor Sher Shah Suri. A Pathan of Bihar defeated and established the Mughal Empire Suri Empire in North India. 13 May 1545 AD. He died in an accidental gunpowder explosion at the fort of Kalinjar. This mausoleum is an example of Indo-Islamic architecture, it was designed by the architect Mir Muhammad Aliwal KhanAnd built between 1540 and 1545, this red sandstone mausoleum (122 feet high), situated in the middle of an artificial wood, Which is almost square, is known as the second Taj Mahal of India. The tomb is situated in the center of the lake on a square stone. On each of its corners are the domed kiosks, plinths with umbrellas, further bordered by stones and ghats on all sides. Plinth, which is connected to the mainland through a wide stone bridge. The main mausoleum is built on an octagonal plan, At the top of the dome, are 22-meter spans and all-around decorative dome kiosks that were once used in colored glazed tiles. The mausoleum was constructed during Sher Shah's lifetime as well as during the reign of his son Islam Shah. An inscription is the date of its completion On August 16, 1545, three months after Sher Shah's death.

HASAN KHAN TOMB

The tomb is that of Hasan Khan Suri, father of Sultan Sher Shah Suri, at Sasaram tourist places.The father of Sher Shah Suri, Hasan Khan was the child of Ibrahim Khan, who was active in Bihar under Baharol Shah Lodi. He increased his power as an Afghan in Jaunpur under the Sikandar Lodi reign and was given the land of Sasaram Parganas. He was killed in the battle of Kalinjar. His tomb surrounded by walls on four sides was designed by a Panjabi named Aliwar Khan sometimes before 1550, like other Sur buildings. It is said that this is one of the early works of this excellent architect, probably from 1535. In its structure and style, it has many similarities with tomb architecture, built-in Delhi during the Sayyid and Lodi Dynasties. P.Brown points out the immaturity of this tomb in comparison with later buildings in the Sur Dynasty. (Matsuo Ara). The Tomb of Hasan Khan Suri (1535 AD), the second main attraction in Sasaram, is located just a 10-minutes-walk from Sher Shah Tomb. The top of its high dome is visible from Sher Shah's Tomb. Not very well signposted, but quite easy to find. Another fantastic place and setting: a large courtyard surrounded by a wall with corner turrets and 4 entrance gates and, in the middle, an octagonal mausoleum (closed to the public). No entrance fee here. No water pond, but a dusty playground where children play cricket! No foreign tourists around, just a few curious locals that will approach and talk to you.

MAA TARACHANDI TEMPLE

Maa Tara Chandi Shakti Peetha, also called Maa Tarachandi, is the oldest and one of the most sacred temples of Sasaram. It is regarded as one of the52 Siddha Shakti Pithas in India. According to Puranic legends, the "right eye" (Netra) of the corpse of Sati had fallen here when it was chopped off by Lord Vishnu with his "Sudarshan Chakra". The ancient temple, originally called Maa Sati, is believed to be the abode of the goddess Dur Maa Tara Chandi. There is a temple of Goddess Tarachandi, about 5 km from Sasaram two miles to the south, and an inscription of Pratapdhavala on the rock close to the temple of Chandi Devi. Hindus in large number assemble to worship the goddess.

PILOT BABA TEMPLE

Pilot Baba is an Indian spiritual guru who was previously Wing Commander Kapil Singh, a fighter pilot with the Indian Air Force. Pilot Baba has established a number of Ashrams and spiritual centers in India and abroad. According to Pilot Baba, Kapil's spiritual guru, Hari Baba, appeared in his cockpit and guided him to land his fighter aircraft safely. This event became a turning point in young Kapil's life and ten years later, at the age of 33,he retired from the Air Force to pursue his spiritual life.

Gupta Dham Mahadev Temple also known as Gupteshwar Dham is one of the most ancient temples in Sasaram, Bihar.situated in Kaimur plateau and 12 miles from Sasaram in the south and is around 8 miles in South-East from Shergarh.Inside this cave, there is a statue (Stalagmite) of Inscription (Shiva-Linga) made up of limes on a small rock which is known as Gupteshwar Mahadev. There are various stories regarding this inscription (Shiva-Linga) in this part of the world but there’s no Mythological evidence to prove that.This cave is on a certain height on the eastern side of the mountain. One has to step down from the entrance of the cave.On the entrance, this is 18 ft wide and 12 ft in height. The way inside the cave is dark, muddy, slippery and damp. But, the last year the surface floor has been cemented. After going 363 feet inside the cave there’s a deep ravine, which is always filled with water. That’s why it also called as Paatal Ganga. After this, there’s a very narrow lane. From the middle of this cave, there’s a way leading to a different, which in turn to a third cave. During the month of Shravan pilgrims from different places comehere to play a homage lord Shiv and seek his blessing. During Navratras and Vasant Panchami a big fair is organized and people from far places come here. It is a delight to bath here. This is regarded as an important religious place but is also a delightful and fascinating place for tourists.

The best time to visit Sasaram is in the months of winters or during post-monsoon season, when the weather remains pleasant. How to reach Sasaram is not a major concern these days, as this place is well connected with major cities of the country through airways,railways and roadways.The nearest airport to Sasaram is located in Gaya, at a distance of 97.4 Km from here.The nearest railway stationto Sasaram is the Sasaram Railway Station, which is located at a distance of 100 km from Varanasi. By Road: State buses can be taken from Pendra Road, Shahdol and Bilaspur to Amarkantak. It is also connected to Jabalpur and Rewa via buses.
