By its nature, a netbook should be compact and lightweight. We willingly sacrifice a certain degree of functionality for the convenience of portability because, for most people, a netbook is not their primary computer.

Netbooks work best as a highly mobile secondary device and as such shouldn’t be encumbered by bulky accessories. In most cases, users are content with Internet and email access, and don’t need additional amenities like a widescreen monitor.

Technological advances have successfully married convenience to simplicity so sacrifices to the overall experience are limited.

For those netbook users who want to bring along a little of the desktop computing experience without giving up mobility, here are the top 5 essential accessories for netbooks:

Memory Upgrade – Netbooks generally come with only about 1 GB of memory. As most anyone knows, that isn’t much when running today’s technology, even if you’re not a gamer. For less than $40, purchase a 2 GB memory upgrade to boost the machine’s performance. The difference will be immediately noticeable.

Speakers – While certainly speakers wouldn’t be appropriate in a café setting, I can think of numerous occasions where netbook speakers would come in extremely handy. Advances made over recent years have taken once-bulky speaker technology and rendered it completely compact, so there really is no reason not to have a set.

Mini-hub – Most netbooks come with only three USB ports. A mini-hub can add an additional four USB ports to the netbook’s capacity. But even if you don’t need that many ports, a portable hub can assist where some netbooks have spacing problems that prevent all of the internal ports from being used at the same time and thus limiting connectivity.

Wireless Mouse – For all the convenience and computability of netbooks, one drawback is the track pad that is used instead of mouse-type devices desktop computers rely on. A wireless mouse adds an ergonomic element as well that can help prevent repetitive stress injuries.

External Hard Drive – If you use your netbook while mobile and need to transfer data to other devices or a desktop machine, an external drive is a good option. It also comes in handy for backing up data to prevent unexpected losses.

Of course, there are many more accessories available for netbooks. How many of those items improve the experience without taking away from mobility is up to individual. But it’s nice to know there are products available to enrich the experience.

Netbooks are popular these days because of their small size light weight, easy to use and reliable performance. They are used to handle daily tasks like typing, watching pictures, videos, education, games etc. Some of the very popular netbooks are, Sony Vaio Netbook, Acer Aspire One, Asus Eee PC and Dell Mini 10.

At their inception in late 2007, as smaller notebooks optimized for low weight and low cost Netbooks featuring smaller screens and keyboards was introduced, with offered reduced computing power when compared to a full-sized laptop. In the short period since their appearance, Netbooks have grown in size and features, now converging with new smaller, lighter notebooks and sub notebooks. Netbooks are little sensitive as compare to notebook or laptops and the resources of netbooks are also limited too. Therefore, one is advised to optimize its performance.

Tips for Using Netbook and Optimizing its Performance are:

1. Keep in mind it is a small Netbook. Use the Netbook with little care because it is more delicate than laptop or a computer and is in small size.

2. Do not use Netbook as a primary computer. One should not sue it as a primary computer working for longer hours since it is designed for small and medium tasks.

3. Do not use antivirus (Use Ccleaner Instead). Since antivirus is a resource consuming software and Netbook has limited resources, so antivirus can slow down the speed of the Netbook.

4. Close down unnecessary Services. One can free some resources on Netbook by closing some unnecessary Services. To close any service, Lauch task manager by pressing ctrl – alt – delete and then click on task manager then click on services. Right click on the services you want to close and click end task.

5. Check CPU and Memory Usage. Checking CPU and Memory usage on regular interval can give you a quick look on how much the processor and memory is being used. If the available ram is low then one can increase the performance of Netbook by increasing the page file size.

6. Do not install Games and heavy softwares. Netbook is not designed for playing games or using softwares like visual studio. Instead it is designed for browsing, messaging, blogging, chatting and other office work. So one can refrain from installing games or heavy software on Netbook. Accounting Principals finance staffing agency and other such places do recommend workers not to install games and such.

7. Try to use Linux. Linux is more secure as compare to windows therefore using Linux rather than windows on Netbook is a better approach. Linux has got all the softwares required for blogging, browsing, chatting, listening songs and watching videos. So install Linux on Netbooks and have fun with secure OS.

8. Keep your files and folders organized. Always keep your files and folders manage. Create a separate partition for your data rather than using C drive or the Drive in which OS is installed. Before installing software firstly create a folder with the name of software and then install software on that folder.

9. Adjust Windows XP for best Performance. Default theme of Windows XP is resource consuming. Thus it is better if uses a classic theme and adjusts Windows XP for best performance.

10. Do not Press Keys Hardly. Keys of Net books are little sensitive so pressing them hardly can cause internal damage to them.

Thus, Netbooks should be used with little care, and customizes regularly to deliver high performance.

If you are computer fanatic then you must aware of famous the ASUS Eee PC. This award winning PC is known for its simplicity yet it can easily compete with other brands of similar specs. In this article we are going to experiment on some functionality with Xandros operating system that this magical Eee PC delivers which is not commonly known to all. User can have fun while computing. For instance, adding start menu to Eee PC desktop having Xandros OS or using webcam on skype. However one can do it with other ways as well. Let’s have some experiment as well as fun

1. Adding start menu in Eee PC with Xandros OSDo you know you can introduce start menu in Xandros. All you need to give yourself root access. First of all you need to press Ctrl+Alt+T to open Xandros windows. Allow yourself root access by typing “sudo -i” and press enter key. The next step is to create a new directory. For that you have to write “mkdir /home/user/.icewm” within terminal. Now you need to goto copy preferences file to new folder. To execute that you need to put following command into the terminal- “cp /etc/X11/icewm/preferences /home/use/.icewm/”. Now press the enter button. Now launch preference file by providing “nano /home/user/.icewm/preferences” command. Execute it by pressing enter button. Now you are almost done. All you need to modify the value of TaskBarShowStartMenu from 0 to 1 and save it the start menu will be added.

2. Having video chat when you are on Skype

Skype’s recent version has some kind of support for ASUS webcam. Here we are going to discuss about it. The first two steps are similar like we have discussed in adding start menu. Also, you need to download Skye Beta 2.0Version for Xandros. Now you need to move My Document folder. To perform this step you need to type cd /home/user/”My Documents”/ . Be careful that My document word must remain within quotes. It will move to my documents folder. Now it’s turn to install Skype. You need to write following commands in the Xandros windows – “sudo dpkg -I skype-debian_2.0.0.27-1_i386.deb” . Switch on webcam, to turn your EeePC webcam on you need to type “”sudo echo 1 > /proc/acpi/asus/camera.” In the terminal box. You can turn off the webcam by changing the value of sudo echo 1 to 0 rest commands are same. Open Skype to run the webcam, Find out whether it’s working or not.

3. Add to the Eee PC Taskbar or the Start Menu

This is very much similar to the steps of adding the start menu. As you start with turning on the startup menu, there comes a tab showing “Task Bar Show Start Menu”, you have to change in to the Task Bar Show CPU Status”. Below are the detailed steps-

Again you need to get the root access first and for this press Ctrl+Alt+T to open Xandros windows. Now type “sudo -i” and press enter key. The next step is to create a new directory. For that you have to write “mkdir /home/user/.icewm” within terminal. Next step is to copy preferences file to new folder and for that you need to put following command into the terminal- “cp /etc/X11/icewm/preferences /home/use/.icewm/” and hit the enter button. Again same as in startup, launch preference file by providing “nano /home/user/.icewm/preferences” command and hit the enter button. You are now done with the taskbar.

4. Edit Tabs in Easy Mode on the Eee PC

If you are bored of the easy mode of internet or Play, you now need to switch to the Interwebs and Gaming. Again start with opening the terminal giving the Ctrl+Alt+T command. Next command that you need to give is Type “/opt/xandros/share/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc /home/location_of_your_choice”. This command is used to save a back up copy of the database. For switching up into the interwebs and gaming you need to launch the Konqueror for which the required command is “conqueror” that you need to type into the terminal. You may now see the file systems go to the click application>system>admin tools>file manager. Now go to the simpleui.rc>Opt>Xandros>Asuslaucnher. To get it done finally double click on simpleui.rc and edit the line <name lang=”en”>NewTabName</name>.

5. Boot the Eee PC’s Xandros Desktop in Full-KDE Mode

The next tip which I am going to share with you is indeed the best one. This tip will convert the complex Asus Eee PC into the most comfortable and familiar machine. You will get a complete desktop where you can customize the options, change the wallpaper, the start menu etc. The best part about this tip is that you can get back to the easy mode whenever you want. To come back to the easy mode you need to reboot the system. Start as usual with opening the terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T command and get the root access by typing “sudo -i”. Next you need to give the command “apt-get update” and your software is updated. You now also need to install Kicker and KSMServer and you can get this just by giving the command apt-get install ksmserver kicker. You are now done and this setting will download the required
application.

Finally you need to restart your Asus Eee.

There are many tricks which you can experiment with your Eee PC desktop. But you need to be Xandros Enthusiast if you want to experiment with this operating system. Also, little knowledge about commands will help you to understand the basics of it. The reason I wrote this post was that I was searching for jobs for speech pathologists and Google started to act weird and then my PC crashed, as I searched forums I found these tips and thought I will make a blog post out of it.

I hope these will help you optimize your Asus Eee.

What’s the best thing to do when you are stressed and you are at the end of your rope? The answer would depend on your personal preferences, of course, but it has been proven time and again that cooking can have therapeutic effects. Of course, there is also the added bonus of enjoying your creations in the kitchen!

In order to make the best of your time, it is a good idea to have a steady source of ideas for what to make in the kitchen. Whether you are cooking because it is a hobby or it is a necessary thing, the fact remains that having inspiration can make things so much better.

And speaking of inspiration, here’s something to help you in that area: Recipe Finder. This is the newest recipe search engine that you can find today, and it might very well turn out to be your most used resource when cooking.

Recipe Finder is a new search engine that features a wide variety of dishes that anyone can make at home. The advantage of Recipe Finder over other recipe sites is that it offers a collection of over a million recipes. Recipe Finder indexes other recipe sites, doing away with the need of having to check individual sites over and over again. Consider it your one-stop recipe site! And with Recipe Finder regularly checking for new recipes, you are assured that you will always have something to new to discover.

You can easily find recipes on Recipe Finder via its main search bar. Just enter the name of the recipe you have in mind. Alternatively, you can enter the ingredients that you have in the fridge, and you can find recipe ideas! If you have allergies or you don’t like particular ingredients, you can also customize your search so as to exclude those items. This customization is a great tool for specific searches as you can identify other parameters such as calorie count, cook time, number of servings, and so on. You also have two viewing options: text or images. If you want to get cooking immediately, the viewing the recipe text is perfect. If you want to choose recipes based on how the final product looks, then the image version is ace.

Organization is not a problem with Recipe Finder. It has a built-in menu creator which you can use to plan meals. Whether you are preparing for an ordinary meal or a special one, the menu feature can make the planning so much easier for you. If you want to go one step further and plan meals days or weeks in advance, the calendar function will do the trick. Finally, if you like having printouts of your recipes, you simply have to press the print button on the recipe page.

Ready to start cooking? Visit Recipe Finder now!

ASUS’ unique tablet and PC hybrid, the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer, created a lot of interest when it was first announced. And now it is getting a lot of good reviews for its unique take on mobile computing.

The ASUS EEE Pad Transformer got a lot of interest when it was first announced. Here’s a product that bridges the gap between the internet tablet and a netbook. The EEE Pad Transformer sports two unique and separate parts, which are sold as a bundle or separately. The first part, which is the brains of the whole device, is the tablet part. It comes equipped with a Tegra 250 chip and runs on Android 3.0, or Honeycomb. People who have bought the Transformer tablet report great, zippy performance thanks to its processor chip. The screen is no slouch either, as it generates HD resolutions of 1280×800.

The second part of the Transformer combo is the keyboard. The tablet connects to the keyboard and what you get is the typical netbook configuration. The tablet firmly docks onto the keyboard, which also has a trackpad for real netbook-style navigation.

The general consensus among users is that the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer works perfectly for what it is designed for – light computing and as a cross between a tablet and netbook experience. The processor is zippy enough to do the most common tasks associated with a tablet or a netbook – general computing and light gaming. It also allows the users to experience having a tablet and then have the option to work more efficiently with the attached keyboard, because, really, typing on a screen can be quite hard.

Netbooks, particularly the Eee PC (duh), are great. You can take them everywhere, they’re relatively fast, and they’re good enough to allow you to finish your tasks without crashes. However, I’m not a big fan of their storage options. Either you get a really fast SSD that contains only around 32 GB of storage, or a hard drive that has 250 GB of storage, but only has 5400RPMs. Now if you’d like to have a hard drive with 320GB and 7200RPMs, check out this video posted by Netbook Reports.

What are the advantages of upgrading your hard drive other than the obvious storage gains, you ask? Netbook Reports answers that:

In addition to being faster over the stock hard drive, it also offers a 16MB cache to help load larger files faster, and also includes:
Low power consumption – With technologies like IntelliSeek, which calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption and SecurePark, which reduces power by parking the heads during low power idle mode, this drive delivers 5400 RPM-equivalent power consumption in a 7200 RPM drive.
Quiet – In a notebook drive, silence is golden. WD’s exclusive WhisperDrive combines state-of-the-art seeking algorithms to yield one of the quietest 2.5-inch hard drives on the market.
Reliable – ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks during shipping and handling and in daily operation.

Messaging services seems to be a constant need and essential element to the success of an organization. Emails formulate the front of the communications of every business, and it aims to give you services considered to be quick and easy. What else would be a better way to manage your costs, time, and your projects than with the functional features of the Microsoft Exchange Applications?

For those that want a streamlined approach to the messaging services, there would be nothing better than to have the Exchange to give you essential elements. Considering there is the need to have easy access to the messages, it must have the uptime of a hundred percent. Downtime loses money, and the MS Exchange assumes the role of being the messenger that allows access to these mails with ease.

Of course, who would ever want their entire network to be cluttered with the vast viruses and worm that eat their way into the systems from the mails? Using the latest protective software solutions, it opts to give people a more secure way to operate details from the emails without the fear there will be those that will come with Trojans that destroys your files.

Messaging requirements on the emails will be properly assessed and managed by the Microsoft Exchange Servers, and it comes down to how these systems will be used by the organization to comply with the amounts of data that needs to be archived and stored. Automated systems, and fast emails, it comes down to how you will set the MS Exchange, but it is definitely one you can work with.
