Congratulations to all of the winners and entrants in the Bart & Urby’s Homebrewing Competition held on 1/12. We sampled quite a few beers as part of the judging process and there were many beers to be proud of whether you won an award or not. From Bart & Urby’s":

So it's official! Out of around 35 entries the home brew winners are as follows!
1st place w "Baltic Porter" Dan Scheffler
2nd "Bluemar Pale Ale", Ed Elliot, I think I spelled that beer wrong again!
3rd "Turnagain Arms" English Ale, Carol Westbrook
4th "Izzy Pale Ale" John Birmer and Co.!

Contact B&U this week and we'll get u prizes. Also need what size shirt u take!

Thanks to all home brewers who entered and the great judging staff!

All scoresheets for entrants can be picked up at Bart and Urbys anytime when we are open.

Next Competition Around April 7th. Lmk if we should do a specific style or theme? Obviously it will be spring by then!

Heirloom tomato summer vegetable taurine finished with a blueberry chili oil

Pistachio encrusted pork medallions with a fig chipotle aioli topped with seasoned parsnip ribbons

Crab fondue topped with roasted corn salsa

TWO BOTTLES OF THE BEER AT LEAST 12 OZ, MAKE THE BOTTLE CAP AS ANONYMOUS AS POSSIBLE ,IE. BLACK OUT ANY PERSONAL MARKINGS

ENTRY FORMS WILL BE AT THE BAR ON DROP OFF, ON YOUR BOTTLES WE WILL NEED A LABEL CONTAINING

1. YOUR NAME

2. YOUR PHONE NUMBER

3. CATEGORY OR STYLE OF BEER WHICH YOU ARE ENTERING AND WHAT YOU NAMED THE BEER

THE BEERS WILL BE IMMEDIATELY PUT INTO A PAPER BAG TO RETAIN ANONYMITY AND THEN STORED IN OUR COOLER UNTILL THE CONTEST WHERE NO ONE WILL TAMPER WITH THEM.

JUDGING INFORMATION:

BEER ENTRIES WILL BE JUDGED IN THE CONTEST CATEGORIES PROVIDED BELOW.

ALES: PALE ALE, INDIA PALE ALE, WHEAT BEERS, FLAVORED WHEAT BEERS, NUT BROWN, STOUTS, PORTERS, FLAVORED STOUT AND PORTER, BELGIAN STYLE, ENGLISH STYLE, SPECIALTY STYLES (UNIQUE BEERS)

LAGERS: GOLD LAGER, AMBER LAGER, BOCKS, HELLES LAGERS, DARK LAGERS, DOUBLE BOCKS, AND TRIPLE BOCKS, FLAVORED LAGERS, SMOKED LAGERS AND A MISCELANIOUS LAGER CATERGORY

BLIND TASTING WILL BE USED, THE BREWERS IDENTITY WILL BE KEPT SECRET.

FEEDBACK WILL BE GIVEN TO THE BREWER.

BEER WILL BE JUDGED ON: APPEARANCE, AROMA, TASTE, MOUTH AND FINISH.

I’ve just heard from Carl and he tells me Bart & Urby’s has a new Happy Hour special. The specials are Mon-Fri 5-7PM and Sat-Sun 9-11PM and include $2 Drafts, $2.50 mixed drinks, and half priced wines and appetizers. Carl also tells me they just hired a new chef (Sean Rogan formerly of Mount Airy Casino) and they’re working on a Valentines Day dinner so stay tuned.
