Also, next Saturday (Nov. 14) we will be having a special event from 1 to 5pm. "The Bluegrass and Beer Matinee" featuring the band Cabinet. They are a high-energy bluegrass/folk band who have established quite a name and reputation for themselves locally and throughout the PA/OH region. Admission is $15 in advance or $20 at the door and includes a tasty food buffet. This will be the "test-run" of The Annex, our new indoor venue. There is at least one bus (possibly 2) being organized from the Scranton area.

First and foremost let me just say the One Guy Brewing Oktoberfest was wonderful. Fantastic brews, wonderful food and amazing company. Hanging out with Chip, Mrs. Chip, Jason, Paul, Amy, Carmen, George, Mary, Kip, Rodger, Tom, Steve, Thomas and of course Guy was the highlight of the day. Getting to taste some amazing 1G beers and to enjoy the secret Figaro was of course a lot of fun…BUT there is news from Berwick. Consider this just a tease, and Guy promises me that he will send in details for everyone to read as soon as the Oktoberfest dust settles, but look at the photos. Yes there’s a little multiple personality brewing going on here and yes this is early in the process…but after counting WAY more than 1 guy working behind the bar (perhaps as many as 9), I believe One Guy Brewing may also now be known as Berwick Brewing Co. Turns out way back in the day there was a Berwick brewing Co that never worked out and the building is now a machine shop. Flash forward to 2009 and One Guy Brewing may quietly be fulfilling the hopes and dreams of the original Berwick Brewing Co. I present for you a few teaser photos and a few photos of the celebration, including Chip in his authentic German garb (Rockin’ the Lederhosen !!!), and the double-fisted Oktoberfest & Figaro glasses of Mrs. Beerbuzz. Good news for everyone out there is that there there are still plenty of days left to enjoy the celebration. Chip the Beer Guy Rock 107 – Victory Fest & One Guy Oktoberfest

I’ll admit that fest beers aren't my favorites, but I’ll be the first to admit I love this time of year in the beer calendar. The beers are getting darker, the festivals are in full swing and my favorite beers (winter & holiday ales) are almost ready. Today’s beer of the week fits right into the fest theme…Victory Fest. Fest is Victory’s current seasonal and a tasty little Marzen-style beverage. I’m excited also to hear that on Rock 107’s thirsty Thursday show they actually gave away a case of Victory Fest.

The real excitement of the show today was of course the guys showing love for our local breweries, Breaker Brewing & Lion and also for One Guy Brewing and Guy’s Oktoberfest. For those that missed the details, One Guy Brewing Oktoberfest is going on right now! Opening night was last night and the festival runs 10/8 to 10/11 and 10/15 to 10/18. Check out the oneguybrewing.com page for details on the beers and food. As proof I offer up a photo from opening night showing Chris & Mark from Breaker Brewing with Guy and Tom from One Guy Brewing. Note the gravity fed keg of One Guy Oktoberfest and make note that we’ll be heading down to 1G Oktoberfest on Sat afternoon (10/10). Cheers guys…great show and hope to see you @ One Guy Oktoberfest.

Food will be Bratwurst (Guy just drove 220 miles round trip to pick up what he considers the best brats in the US),

Zoning OK boosts hopes for Oktoberfest bands at Berwick business

BERWICK – One Guy Brewing has plans for an Oktoberfest in its new beer garden, with oompah bands wandering from table to table.

Those plans recently got a boost from borough zoners, who decided it was OK for the brewpub to host live music until 11 p.m.

Co-owner Guy Hagner said his brewery is preparing for Oktoberfest by making a "malty, amber-colored German-style lager."

Also, One Guy Brewing might change its name, Hagner said.

When he opened the business 19 months ago, he ran everything by himself. Now, he has a business partner, Tom Clark, and several employees.

Noise, traffic concerns

Some zoners worried live music might increase traffic and noise problems for residents.

But Hagner said the brewery at 328 W. Front St. does not draw heavy traffic. It has 50 parking spots, but they have not been filled to the brim.

Also, breweries tend to attract most customers on weekends, not weekdays, he said.

Zoning Chairman Tom Metz asked if the brewery can promise not to use amplifiers. But Clark said that would rule out microphones for performers.

Hagner said most musicians playing at his place would use acoustic instruments.

'Run a tight ship'

Zoners also heard from three supporters of One Guy Brewing, who praised it as an asset for Berwick.

Arden Oliver said the establishment attracts beer lovers from Danville to Scranton.

"They run a tight ship," Oliver said of Clark and Hagner.

Monica Maciejewski, 24, Berwick, likes going there because she won't run into troublemakers.

Police have not been called to the brewpub for any incident, Hagner said.

Joe Seicko, owner of a nearby business, commended Hagner for opening a brewery that pumps tax money into local coffers.

State permit needed

Zoners unanimously voted for allowing live music at the brewpub. They then shook hands with Hagner and Clark.

After most people left the meeting room, Maciejewski pumped her fists into the air.

Maciejewski said she helps out at the brewery as a volunteer. Her boyfriend works there, she added.

The brewery still needs an amusement permit from the state Liquor Control Board, Hagner said.

Music-loving brewers

The brewpub's first Oktoberfest is slated for Oct. 8-11, then 15-18, Hagner said.

He and Clark plan to offer outdoor music mainly for the annual event.

But as a bluegrass fan, Hagner said he might host a bluegrass festival on a "nice Saturday afternoon."

The brewpub's customers and employees include musicians, and they want to perform there, Hagner said.

Two employees, brothers Steve and Andy Zourides, are renown local musicians, he added.

The brewery has a full-time employee and five part-timers.

The beer garden opened just about three weeks ago, Hagner said. It's about 40 feet by 80 feet wide.

I’ve just heard from Guy and One Guy Brewing has received their license extension to open their pizza kitchen and outdoor beer garden! Guy tells me the outdoor area and pizza will be available Thursday’s, Friday’s, Saturdays and Sundays (weather permitting). This is exciting news and I can’t wait to get down and enjoy some of Guy’s brews & pizza outside.

One Guy Brewing - Biergarten

Guy was nice enough to take me on an extensive tour of the 1GB facilities over the Memorial Day weekend. Needless to say the place is huge and the plans are extensive. As proof I submit three pictures of the future One Guy Brewing Biergarten.... overlooking the Susquehanna river. The view is wonderful, the atmosphere will be great and the beers are fresh....stay tuned for details.

I should also add a few other details:

Guy has a bunch of authentic looking orange German beer tables ready to go.
There are all sorts of expansion plans in place that will slowly transform 1GB into quite an establishment
The pizza kitchen looks ready to go and Guy was actually experimenting with some pizza dough recipes while I was there
I finally had the pleasure of meeting the "other" guy----Steve and he's doing a great job
The remainder of the 1GB building is amazing with all sorts of hidden treasures and expansion opportunities
There was ALL sorts of brewing equipment that as been acquired to expand Guy's capabilities for brewing and packaging.
All in all a very exciting visit and I can't wait to see what Guy will do next.

Just when you thought fresh craft beer brewed on the premises with brats & potato salad was good....along comes a test....Not only does Guy know beers...but stay tuned because Guy knows pizza also. Guy managed to purchase a Blodgett commercial pizza oven and is now working on some test pizza. No it's not available yet at One Guy, but you can be assured that once Guy works out the perfect sauce for the perfect pizza (to match the perfect fresh brewed craft beer) you'll be able to get both. Just like one Guy has expanded to add a 2nd "guy", there will soon be a 2nd fantastic reason to stop in to One Guy Brewing.

A few beer updates:

OK all you hopheads, I heard your (many) requests for a really hoppy beer. This Sunday (Dec. 7) will be the debut of Atomic Punk I.P.A. I didn't hold back with the American hops--Simcoe, Cascade, Amarillo, etc. Come out to the brewery Sunday and be ready to pucker up!

Peach Wheat has been hugely popular and is almost gone. There are a few kegs for this weekend and I bet they'll kick. Once it's gone we'll all have to wait for the next peach season.

Also this weekend I'll have a limited amount of an experimental Wheat Ale brew. It's a German-style Dunkel Weizen or Dark Wheat.

Put One Guy in their stocking: One Guy Gift Certificates are now available! They're fun, stylish and much easier to wrap than a growler. On sale now in the tap room.

Meet Steve:

If you've been to the One Guy tap room lately, you probably noticed a much-smaller beer list. Quite simply I haven't been able to brew as fast as y'all have been drinking. I realized that the true "one guy" era was over. I'm happy to say that I've hired a great fellow to help brew and keep up with the demand. Many of you already know Steve, please say "Hi" if you see him working behind the bar or in the brewery. I'm excited to have him on board and I'm sure he'll be a big help as the business continues to grow.

Hi everyone:

Just a quick note with a few reminders. The One Guy taproom be open Wednesday Thanksgiving Eve from 5pm to 9pm. Last chance to fill your growler before Turkey Day! I'll be closed on Thursday, then open for normal hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets for the Taming of the Brew go on sale Friday. This is my favorite beer festival with lots of great local breweries and restaurants offering generous samples. It will be held April 4, 2009 at the Caldwell Consistory in Bloomsburg and is a fundraiser for the Bloomsburg Theater Ensemble. Ticket sales are very limited (making for a pleasant, uncrowded festival), but PLEASE NOTE they sell out in a matter of hours. They will go on sale at the BTE's Treefest, which starts this Friday (November 28). Don't miss out, get your tickets early!
