The countdown banner contest for Ubuntu 12.04 is now open for submissions.

As one of the most widely distributed pieces of pre-Ubuntu release media, the countdown banners provides creative users of Ubuntu with the chance to make, in the words of contest lead Matthew Nuzum, ‘a highly visible contribution to Ubuntu’.

As with the previous banner competitions, the guidelines set out for contributions are concise: -

Banners should be 180px wide by 150px high

Banners should not be created in PHP or Flash

Do not over-emphasis the codename (in this case ‘Pangolin’) in the banner

The banner will need to countdown the days from the Beta release of Ubuntu 12.04 to final release on April 26th. Thus: -

Images counting down from 30 days to 1

1 image for day 0 saying “It’s Almost Here”

1 further for days past release saying “It’s Here”

Deadline for submission is Monday, March 12th.

As ever the place to submit your entries is on the Ubuntu Wiki at the following link.

wiki.ubuntu.com/Website/PreciseCountdownBanner

LG is going to be one busy company at next week’s Mobile World Congress. We’ve already heard about the Optimus Vu, the Optimus 3D MAX / Cube, and the L-Style phones. We’ve also been reporting about the X3, but it looks like it will have a different name, the Optimus 4X HD. Since it features NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3, this makes perfect sense.

As a reminder, this beast will also include a whopping 4.7-inch 720p display, 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front facing camera, 16GB internal storage, 2000mAh battery, HSPA+ at 21Mbps, and Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.

There’s also a strong possibility it could wind up on T-Mobile USA as the G4X, which would be the followup to the G2X. Hopefully it won’t be as buggy.

After announcing the Optimus Vu, LG has added three more devices to their lineup called the L-Style category.

According to LG, this new category refers to a ‘new design identity’ which showcases a ‘timeless design with finer details.’ The devices under this category all hold the 5 aesthetic elements which LG has set as a standard:

Modern Square Style for a comfortable grip

Floating Mass Technology for a slimmer look

Seamless Layout for a more intuitive arrangement of keys

Harmonized Design Contrast utilizing metallic accents

Sensuous Slim Shape that naturally draws one’s attention

Included in this category are the new L-Style smartphones namely the Optimus L3, the Optimus L5, and the Optimus L7.

Optimus L3

The Optimus L3 has been said to have a 3.2-inch display. While a Europe release has been set for March, there are no details on its North American launch yet.

Optimus L5 and Optimus L7

Meanwhile, the Optimus L5 bears a 4-inch display and runs on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

Just like the Optimus L5, the Optimus L7 runs on ICS. It has a slightly bigger screen (4.3-inches), compared to the former.

These two devices are said to launch ‘in the first half of the year;’ which roughly means Q2. Again, there have been no details on a U.S. or Canadian launch.

Other specs of these three devices will be revealed at the MWC this weekend, so stay tuned!

T-Mobile Announces March Availability for Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

The latest addition to T-Mobile’s fastest 4G device lineup, the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4Gkeeps consumers entertained and connected

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Feb. 22, 2012 – T-Mobile USA, Inc. and Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile), the No. 1 mobile phone provider in the U.S., today confirmed the upcoming March availability of the Samsung Galaxy S® Blaze™ 4G, exclusively from T-Mobile®. The Galaxy S Blaze 4G is the latest addition to the successful Galaxy S line of products, and T-Mobile’s newest fast 4G smartphone to take advantage of 4G (HSPA+42) technology, providing customers with the ability to browse the Web faster than the average home Internet2 connection while on the go.

Consumers are increasingly demanding more from their smartphones – keeping them entertained, staying connected with loved ones and enabling them to complete more tasks using a single device. A recent T-Mobile survey found 79 percent of smartphone users are less likely to carry other technology devices, such as cameras, laptops and GPS devices, when they have their smartphone.

T-Mobile’s newest 4G smartphone offers a variety of features and applications to help consumers be entertained and have access to the information they need when they need it. The Galaxy S Blaze 4G entertainment offerings make it easy for T-Mobile customers to stream their favorite movies on Netflix®, enjoy live or on-demand TV programs on T-Mobile® TV in mobile HD4 or download a popular movie or TV show using Samsung Media Hub. Additionally, the smartphone features TeleNav GPS Navigator, which provides hands-free, voice-guided turn-by-turn driving directions, real-time traffic alerts, full-color 3-D moving maps and local alerts, helping customers get to where they need to go. The Galaxy S Blaze 4G also comes preloaded with a customized version of the Yelp mobile application, featuring the ability to save profiles so users can keep preferences the same with one touch in any city, making it easy to find and read reviews for local places to eat, shop, drink and play.

Also pre-loaded on the device, the T-Mobile 4GPro App Pack offers an aggregation of key business applications, such as DropBox, Evernote, Square, TripIt, Camscanner and LinkedIn, helping busy consumers be even more productive while balancing their professional and personal lives.

“The Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is loaded with rich features and services to keep consumers entertained and connected virtually anywhere they want to go,” said Andrew Sherrard, senior vice president, marketing, T-Mobile USA. “Paired with T-Mobile’s fast 4G network and our unlimited data plans, we’re making it easy for consumers to enjoy the benefits of 4G experiences at a price they can afford.”

Featuring a sleek and stylish form factor, the smartphone comes in a carbon black color and runs on Android™ 2.3 Gingerbread. The Galaxy S Blaze 4G also features a Snapdragon™ S3 processor by Qualcomm® with 1.5 GHz dual-core CPUs and a beautiful 3.97-inch Super AMOLED™ touch screen providing consumers with a rich experience watching their favorite movie or TV show on the device.

The Galaxy S Blaze 4G also makes it easy to connect and share photos and video with loved ones. It features a 720p HD video recorder, 5-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, flash and advanced shooting modes, as well as a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat.

Availability

The Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G is expected to be available at T-Mobile retail stores, select dealers and retailers nationwide, and online at http://www.t-mobile.com starting late March. The Galaxy S Blaze 4G is expected to cost $ 149.99 after a $ 50 mail-in rebate card, with a two-year service agreement and qualifying Classic voice and data plan.
