Minecraft Ultra Hardcore Season 2

So we did Ultra Hardcore again - Season 2 - and it just so happens that mindcrack do another UHC too so soon after their last one. Unbelievable. Anyway I had soon problems with recording in that fraps decided not to record. I set everything up and I did hit record yet it decided not to for some reason.

So yeah I did start recording when I noticed but I will not reveal when as to not give away anything. Anyway it was teams so be sure to check out my team mate Flea to see how we did and I will begin uploading from my POV when it gets to the point that I started recording.

So I've been playing this game for a little bit and I'm playing it on my channel. It's a cool little indie title by Introversion Software. In this game you build and manage your own prison - you design the prison and lay down all the things for the builders to build, make sure you have every appropriate room to cater to the needs of the prisoners, and also for all the staff and guards. Let it all play out in your construction and hope everything doesn't become chaos.

This can be a crazy game - It took me quite a few tries until I could get a functioning prison starting out. This was because prisoners can be very fussy and they will complain if something is amiss. Being hungry, being bored, homesick, dirty, they will complain about anything and pretty soon they will start beating the shit out of each other. Either that or escape if you forget to fence off your prison like I did...

I think I'm getting the hang of the early stages, but adding more prisoners still ends up leaving me with a few unconscious inmates. Yes they can beat each other senseless and go unconscious, they will fight the guards, and they can also die. I haven't saw that yet nor have I seen any of them beat on the staff like the builders or chefs - though I expect it is only a matter of time because the chefs are more than happy to walk right through a holding cell full a dangerous criminal if it happens to be the shortest route.

The graphic designs are very cool and I love the character designs - they are simple shapes but still a variety of different looks per say. The prisons usually come with somewhat amusing bios and maybe a nickname to match. You get a birds eye view of the prison for architectural purposes and it's a nice looking game. You can choose between three surface areas to build on - large, medium or small - and each gives plenty of space depending on how big you want to build. There are currently two gameplay changing options: 'Fog of war' - you can't see inside buildings without guard patrol or security cameras, and 'Continuous intake' - you will get new prisoners everyday forever.

I'm sure there are many more features that will be added*, many improvements, many bug fixes as it is still in alpha so we have to understand that it is by no means a finished product. This bring me to my main concern with this game - the price. $30 is way to much for an indie title in alpha development. That is an insane pricetag for a game of this nature in it's current state. Even when complete I would question it being $30.

If you can put up with the price then this is a really fun game to play - I just wish it was maybe half the price. you can even pay more if you want because there is this kickstarter tier style deal where you can get extras. I recommend the 3rd tier which is $40 and with that you get artbook, soundtrack, and all other Introversion Software games along with Prison Architect.

I must say I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would but a good game nonetheless. I may just be a little weird because I liked the second one better than the first and that is apparently an unpopular opinion.

I loved the characters. Elizabeth is very quirky and odd, and she also seems to be able to pull the things you most desperately need out of her arse. During the period where you have to find her again I found myself running out of ammo so quickly I had to punch everything to death. I'm not sure who voiced Booker but I kept expecting to fight a mummy at some point, and the bubble twins were awesome always being confusing and their little banter between each other. My encounters with them were probably my favourite parts of the game.

I noticed playing this that I'm not a shooter guy and I grow tired very easily of constant gun combat. It was refreshing towards the end for just a tiny bit where you could stealth to avoid combat. There were points were I wanted to put it down but I needed to keep playing because I wanted to know what happens. It seems I play games for the story so any good story is a good game in my book. But this game is worth playing for the story and the ending. One big interdimensional parallel universe mind fuck. One thing you can expect of a Bioshock game is good story.

It is a shame that it was very very linear which I guess makes sense I suppose that your path is predetermined once the ending explains all the world jumpy tearing malarkey and other stuff, but you have this huge floating city that would have been nice to explore a bit more.

Instead of taking full control of the mind just like every other time one creature form a symbiotic relationship with a new human host so the plot can work. With the human desperately looking for her family and lover for horny times the creature grows sadden by this need to conquer inferior races, and has the realisation that there is more to life than ass hitchhiking across the universe. There is friendship, family, love and other flowery crap and it sets out to find the lost love ones resisting the bumhole hopping lust.

It will be a difficult task however with the PA bugging for constant information to send back to the motherbutt, and the mindless agent smiths who did happen to get fully controlled hunting down the remaining survivors including the love ones that this parasitic ass muncher suddenly cares so deeply about. It must still show loyalty to the race while being compassionate to this measly human and her love ones otherwise every one will die or something.

This is a little bit late as I was planning on posting this on my tumblr once I had finished the game but got sidetracked. Anyway Tomb Raider got a much needed reboot and a pretty good reboot at that I'd say. It was not perfect, and it didn't really introduce anything new, but overall it was a solid game and much better than the previous games I think. However I didn't feel like a Tomb Raider game, but this might have to do with a new direction or the fact that it was an origin story for the new Lara Croft. I quite like the new young Lara and maybe it is wrong to try relating to the old games because this is meant to be different, and it is meant to be a fresh start. I guess this is a good thing.

But there were some things that bothered me. First it is sort of dressed up like a survival game, and the tag line 'a survivor is born', but there is not much to the survival elements and they seem to be forgotten as you progress. For example you are shown how to hunt for food, but then hunting is not necessary from that point onwards. I had played Far Cry 3 beforehand and it would have been nice to need to hunt of food and medicine instead of your health magically regenerating. Also being able to craft bigger carrying storage rather than Lara sticking all manner of everything you find in some mystic carrying pouch, or maybe in her vag like this Confused Cara chick...

Another thing I didn't like was all the damn gun fights. There were too many I think, I was getting sick of them and I began to question the validity of whether this many people could have been stranded on this Island. Most of the time it was also very easy to know when a gun fight would happen. Towards the end though I was liking the fight scenes possibly because I was battling those guardian things and I was happy it was something different. I do feel the game had a strong ending though and got better as you progressed.

I liked the old Tomb Raiders, even if the recent once were not that great, and I liked this game very much. I would recommend this game and I am looking forward to see where this may be heading.

Back to Blogging

Well this blog, as well as a few others, has just been sitting here inactive for quite a long time now. Recently I've felt like coming back to blogging and so this blog is revived. I have always found blogging fun but I feel I wasn't able to provide the time or quality to keep this running, though I do still kinda blog in micro form on my tumblr.

I'm not sure what I am going to do with this blog now that I am reopening it. I think I might talk about games maybe and focus on a sort of media and entertainment and technology type niche. There could be some personal touch too and posting some of my own stuff like youtube videos. Last time I was blogging about anything and everything so I think I should have a more narrow focus on things that related to one another.

Trouble is there is still an issue of time. I don't know how regularly I can write posts and that is of course bad because a good blog has regular content It may end up that my regular content ends up being just posts of my videos you can access by going to my youtube channel anyway.

let's go for it regardless. I guess I could treat this has a personal blog where I can post my videos, and then also blog about games and other forms of media. I will try to be as active as I can and write when I have something to say or something pops up to write about. I wonder how long this will last...
