CAMPING KIDS CRAFT - CREATE YOUR OWN S'MORES ROASTING STICKS

So happy to have you today! Summer is going so fast and we are ready to do our annual family camping trip. The food! The bike rides! The swimming! The campfires! The BUGS!

Above all else though... S'MORES! The gooey chocolate and toasty marshmallows... I am drooling as I type! Last year, the kids and I decided to do something really special for our trip. Our own s'mores sticks! No more fighting over which one is theirs because this one dropped in the dirt.

Here is what we used: oven-bake clay, metal roasting sticks, and fun sculpting skills! I purchased these expandable roasting sticks from Target and then just slid the plastic covers off the bottom. We decided what we each wanted to make and bought clay to make it happen. (I also had clay left over from other projects, so we only spent about 8.00 on clay)

It was so fun to spend a few hours sitting and talking with our kids as we made our s'mores sticks. My only suggestion is that you do not make anything too delicate - it can crack and break off with rough use, i.e. kids.

Cover the bottom of the metal with the base color clay and design away! Anything goes! The Boo chose a "Frozen" theme, The Bug made a green light saber, a green and white football design (GO JETS!)for the hubs and a coffee cup for me. We also used all of our play-doh rollers and plastic knives to cut things for the kiddos.

Once they were complete, I followed the instructions on the clay and baked them in the oven. This is why it was important to purchase all metal roasting sticks.

We had a fun crafting time together and they worked perfect all summer. I just pulled them out to use again for camping and they still look great, with the exception of the delicate snowflake. It broke off a bit but, The Boo didn't even notice.

MEMORIAL DAY POPPY PARTY - WITH PARTY CITY

Hey there!

Happy almost summer! YAY! The temps are getting warmer, the sun is making days outside beautiful with blooms, and the pollen is killing us. Am I right?

The official start of summer is right around the corner - Memorial Day! It is a day we take to remember those we have lost in our military. When I was a kid, I remember buying fabric poppies to signify this remembrance. We had one hanging on our rear view mirror and we always put them in our pencil cups. I wanted to use poppies this year to continue that honor.

Lucky for me, Party City has everything I need for party supplies. I am a frequent visitor for the kids parties too. They get very excited about the character party supplies.

I started with this napkin as my inspiration and decided to use their new candy buffet line as a "build your own" bar instead. These plastic bins and all of their candy line is inexpensive and can be used again and again! Totally love it!

In a twist on the BBQ idea, we had grilled "build your own" pizzas! I have done this before for parties, and everyone really enjoys making their own creation. Grilling the pizzas makes them taste fantastic!

Party City also has this super adorable picnic line out right now.... can I just say red gingham?! Love! The chalkboard sign is perfect to use for so many things.

For dessert I decided to use the gingham ice cream cups (they come with their own little spoon!) to make poppy flower dirt cups. Pudding and Oreo goodness topped off with a fondant poppy. I will have to show you how I made these soon.

Drinks and sangria topped off the party - don't forget to add your poppies to the sangria with watermelon and red grapes!

Ok, here is the most awesome thing about all of this though - tablecloths. Plastic tablecloths. You cannot beat the quality of Party City compared to the dollar store ones and the truth is, you can use them for sooo many things. I made a backdrop but cutting and connecting different colors and did the same thing for each of our posts on the gazebo. They look fantastic and like a fabric swag. Simple, inexpensive decorations!

The hanging lanterns come in pack of three and I love them. It really makes me happy to have all the colors match the plates, napkins, etc. and that is what is cool about going to Party City. I did use their tissue paper to make a few red red poppies on the white lanterns. Tied everything together for me.

For the table, I added flowers (real and fake - can you guess which?) to my blue mason jars and used appetizer cups to add a flower place setting for my guests. They can take it home to plant :).

These are a couple of our YUMMO grilled pizzas! I hope you have a wonderful day of remembrance for those who have served and lost their lives for our freedom. Happy Memorial Day Y'all!

EASY VALENTINE'S DAY SCHOOL TREATS

Hey there! Happy Valentine's Day!

I thought I would share a couple of quick and simple ideas to make your Valentine's Day a little more heart shaped!

Every year since my kids have attended daycare, I have always made school treat snacks for almost every holiday. I love to bake and create fun things for them to share with their friends.

To be honest, I never think it is very creative or fancy. It's just something I do. A friend recently pointed out that I don't really share this fun stuff on the blog. Ummm, she is right. I have never thought any of it to be "good ideas."

I want to do 2015 different. I just want to be me. Little ol' Cheryl, just trying to be like my Mom. That's really my goal - to just do me.

This is what I made for the Boo's class this year. I have been obsessed with clear cups and making fun treats in them.

All I did is cut up strawberries and blueberries, add some to the bottom of the clear cup, top with cool whip (i piped it with a bag, but it not necessary) and add a heart shaped brownie and strawberry.

The brownie is from a box mix. No frills here. Simple and quick is the way to go! I also added some heart sprinkles I had on hand, but I would have added just regular sprinkles if I didn't have the hearts.

I try to make things a little more healthy, but this time I did add a brownie. I normally try to stick with fruit of some kind. That way, you aren't pumping a whole mess of sugar into every one's kids. Wink Wink.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE VALENTINE'S DAY DECOR

Hi there! It's 2015... I can't believe it. Colder temps and lots of snow can mean only 1 thing: It's almost time for Valentine's Day!

There are some years that I totally miss the Valentine's Day decorating. I really depends on how long it takes me to take down all the Christmas stuff. I always end up putting off taking it down because it feels so homey and when it is gone, well, it feels so sad.

This year I was on the ball. I took everything down in a reasonable amount of time and was totally feeling the Valentine vibe. I pulled down my Valentine box of decor, opened it and wrinkled my nose. UGH. Do you ever just feel "over" everything you have?

The thought of buying new stuff didn't make me feel happy. I wanted something more neutral and romantic. Y'all know what a sucker I am for Shakespeare. I kept thinking of sonnets and loooovvveee. Feather pens and flowers....

This is what I created- something that ended up only costing me 14.00. (I only bought the roses and the feathers.) A Shakespeare in Love themed mantel. (technically hutch for me, but the only "mantel" I have)

I kinda love a hunt and gather decor mission. I always forget about certain pieces I have as they get shoved to the back of the cabinet. I still marvel at all the basic pieces I acquired when I worked for Bath and Body Works waaaayyy back in the day. Yup, I got these pretty candle sticks from there.

The roses are so beautiful and with the feathers...sigh no more, sigh no more. Much Ado About Nothing is my favorite Shakespeare play. I had to add a quote from there. It's super romantic.

I purchased the roses at my favorite place - produce junction for super cheap and the feathers are from Joann's. You could really recreate the entire thing without the feathers too. I love the extra Shakespeare feeling it gives.

The papers are sonnets I had that I just dipped the pages in coffee and let dry to give them a dated look. They were really white originally. I hope you love it as much as I do! Now off to watch Much Ado!

DIY FOOTBALL COASTERS - POTTERY BARN KNOCK OFF

Hey there! Are you excited it's Friday??

I am really excited about the Superbowl coming up! Not being a die-hard fan of either team, it makes it easier to pick team and cheer for fun.

A few years ago, I purchased these coasters from Pottery Barn for my hubby. It's probably the only thing I could afford in the store at the time ;). I knew they would be great for our football basement.

I only bought one pack, and have been wishing I had more for when others come over for the big game. After rolling it around in my head for a bit, I knew I could DIY them. Here's what I used to make my own football/sports coasters:

Turf rug, cork mats (aren't these AWE-some??! A mat stack of CORK!), wide mouth mason jar lids, and adhesive. (I used Liquid Nails Clear Seal).

I traced the lid and cut out the cork for the bottoms, and traced the inside to cut out the turf rug - make to use utility scissors for this part.

Simply glue both cork and turf to the mason jar lid and you have fun, easy DIY sports coasters - your very own Pottery Barn Knock off! I did use the green color cork from the mat stack on the bottom of the coasters. I liked that it goes with our team colors.

I can't wait to use them for Super Bowl! I even added a little football touch with an apple cut in a football shape to my Woodchuck Draft Cider! Yup, that's right.... I enjoyed the bowl of popcorn and this yummy beverage right after I took the pictures! Waste not, right?!?

VALENTINE'S DAY YARN ART

Well, hello! How have you been? So nice of you to visit me!

I am now fully in the Valentine's Day mood, are you? I have been working on a small V-Day vignette and came up with this simple yarn art to add to it.

It was very easy and the only thing I had to buy was yarn! Not too bad for only $3.00.

Here's what you will need:
Picture frame
Cheesecloth
Piece of white card stock
Yarn of your choice
Large eye needle (Yarn darner)
Spray Glue

Draw a heart on your 8X10 card stock. I also added the word love to mine, but that is totally up to you. Spray the paper with the glue and lay your cheesecloth over top. This is just to hold it in place to make it a bit easier to work with. Make sure to pierce the paper with holes as close together as you can, all the way around the heart.

Thread your needle with the yarn and, starting at the point of the heart, just go around from side to side. I didn't want mine to be perfect.. more organic. If it was off a little bit, no biggie. Because the yarn was so tight in the paper, I really didn't even need to knot it at the end.

Once I was done adding my yarn, I placed in a white frame. I just adore how the cheesecloth adds that little bit extra! I love a great texture combo. It really was a simple project that only took about 30 mins.

RAINBOW LOOM CLASSROOM VALENTINES

Hey there! Happy New Year! I hope your holiday was relaxing and fun! I know ours was a whirlwind of good times. Today, I am excited to share The Bug's Classroom Valentines with you!
I do love Valentine's Day! What better than a day full of hearts and flowers and hugs, right? This year I am especially excited, because The Bug and I came up with the idea together.

He got a Rainbow Loom from Santa this year, and I can't determine who is more addicted to it. Him or me! So it seemed obvious what we should give this year to his classmates.

The Bug picked out the colors of the bands and beads we would use to make them extra special and we got to work.

Here's everything you will need: Rainbow Loom Bands, Clips to make them into a bracelet, beads (optional), and some craft paper. This is what the boys and girls bracelets look like. We chose a fishtail style. (Check out this website for lots of tutorials using the rainbow loom)

We did a little photo shoot and I took pictures of The Bug holding his wrists together like a heart and then took my image over to Pic Monkey. I made the picture black and white with the red accent heart using the Focal Black and White Option.

I added the font "Valentine, you've got me wrapped around your heart" using Pic Monkey as well. I saved it and had it printed out. You could print on your own home printer with 4X6 photo paper, but mine was acting possessed.

By putting a couple of cuts using a utility knife on either side of his wrists in the picture, I slid the bracelet in each side. Now, it looks like he's wearing the bracelet! I added a piece of cardstock to the back just to hold everything together.

We are ready for giving!! An easy DIY Valentine for little $$!! Plus, the bonus of some quality time with The Bug making the bracelets! So fun! Maybe ~~I'll let him~~ he will let me use the loom more often. LOL.

ORANGE CRANBERRY WHOOPIE PIES

Happy Friday all! Around my full-time job, this is a great day... weekend here we come! Recently though, I traveled to the office for our annual work Christmas party. It is so nice to take time to see my co-workers and hear about their adventures.

Every year, we are asked if anyone would like to bake for the dessert table. They provide the yummy lunch (thanks KB and KP!) and we provide the sweetness. Now, this is where it gets embarrassing. I always bake. always. I just didn't bake these...

No, I didn't buy cookies this year, but I did make something very basic because I ran out of time. Why is this embarrassing, you wonder? Because, when I got to the party this year, a fellow co-worker said "OOO, what did you make this year?!!?" LOL. You see, last year I created a recipe for them -(posted here) Mini Peppermint Bark Cheesecakes. AAnnnddd, once you have made "a special" treat, it's expected. OOPS.

This is what I was planning to make for them, it just didn't happen until this week. Sorry ladies!!

I love orange and cranberry together. It's very holiday feeling and a whoopie pie just sounded right this year! Turns out, these were much easier to make than I originally thought. WOO HOO! I love easy recipes, don't you?

Orange Cranberry Whoopie Pies

For the cookie/pie part:
4 cups flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. grated orange peel
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups orange juice
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 cups frozen, fresh cranberries, chopped

For the filling:
2 - 8oz. packages of cream cheese, softened
1 cup butter, softened
6 cups confectioner sugar
2 tsp. vanilla

Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in one bowl. In a larger bowl, mix all remaining ingredients except for cranberries. Add dry ingredients to wet all at once. Stir just until combined. Fold in cranberries.

Using parchment paper, drop amounts of batter by tablespoon (or 2 tbsp if you want them bigger) onto cookie sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 9 minutes. (11-12 minutes if you dropped by 2 tbsp). Cool one minute on sheet and then remove to cooling racks, covered with parchment paper.

While cookies are baking, mix filling recipe ingredients with mixer until well combined. Place in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Once cookies are cooled, match up closest sizes and shapes. Pipe filling (however much you like) onto bottom of one cookie and place the matching one on top. Press gently to sandwich together. Continue until done. Makes about 36 whoopie pies. (1 tbsp size)

HOW TO MAKE A HOLIDAY MAILBOX SWAG

Happy Tuesday! How are you? Getting ready for your holiday? I spent most of the weekend in full Christmas mode. I was decorating, baking (can't wait to share that with you!!), watching the pretty snow fall and Christmas crafting with the kiddos. Bliss. True bliss.

One of the things I enjoy most about the holiday is giving to others. I want to teach my kids about doing nice things and surprising others with a bit of holiday cheer. If I could sing, we would totally Christmas carols, but this girl is totally tone deaf! So, I must come up with other ways to give.

This year I made some mailbox swag for our friends with fresh greens. I packed up the kids and we secretly decorated our friends mailboxes. After we were done, we knocked on the door to say Merry Christmas! What an amazing blessing we get from seeing their eyes twinkle!

Here's how I made the swag:
Buy some fresh cut greens from your local nursery or produce place. I suggest buying a variety - cedar, white pine, pine, etc. I purchased bundles that had a variety for only about 3.50 each.

Make even amounts of each kind of branches and start with the longest ones. I used a bucket to mimic the shape of the mailboxes.

1. Lay the first branches in opposite directions and secure with wire. (you may need a bit a help to make it tight) 2. Continue to add the differing branches in opposite directions to the original bundle - going from longer to shorter, securing again each time you add another set of branches. 3. Close up of how to secure.

4. Gather decorative items to add to your branch bundles. I used ornaments from the dollar store, ribbon and bows I made. (see below) 5 & 6. Add the ornaments by cutting 2 pieces of ribbon or twine to 2 lengths. Tie an ornament on each end and secure to middle of your bundle. (Don't you just love those little pine cones!!)

Here is how to make the bow. Wrap ribbon around itself, making sure to have 4 loops on each side. Secure tightly in the center. Once secure pull loops out, 1 at a time, and twist up toward the middle. Alternate sides of the loops until they are all pulled up and arrange as desired. It really is much simpler than it looks, as long as you have wired ribbon!

I secured the ribbon, as well as one long piece to hang down on each side, to my bundle of branches. Last, but not least, secure a tag with your greeting. I just wrote Merry Christmas on one side and signed the back.

Here's how ours turned out! We took some extra wire and just secured to the mailboxes.

Our friends were very happy to see us and their fun decor. Now they make all their neighbors jealous ;). I hope you are having a wonderful holiday - spreading joy and cheer wherever you may be! XOXO,

MULLING SPICES GIFT and FREE GIFT LABEL PRINTABLE

Hello. Hello! How's it going? Happy holidays to all of you! Have you decorated yet? Not much has happened here yet this year... Why?? Well, it seems we spent too much time lately redoing a room I am bursting at the seams to show you. I will, I promise. It's just not quite done yet.

This fall has been a super busy one for us. It started back in October when the hubs and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary and visited the NY Finger Lakes. It was an amazing trip! Here's our cheeseball picture of us - not bad for a cell phone selfie, right? I love this guy!

One of the many things we did while we were enjoying the beautiful views, was visit a few wineries. There are so many amazing ones around each lake, and it was cool to taste many and get to take a few home with us to enjoy.

That is the inspiration for our gift this year to our neighbors, friends and anyone on your list (that is an adult, of course)! While visiting one of the wineries, they gave us a sample of their mulled wine. Wow, I really loved it. It was warm, and made us feel super cozy - perfect for a winter day!

I wrote down the ingredients for the mulling spice and bought a bottle of the wine they suggested. It is a semi-sweet red wine, but really you could give mulling spices with apple cider as well.

We also found a local bulk food store outside of Penn Yan, NY and bought most of the spices. Do you have a bulk food store in your area? Holy cow, was this one neat. Amazing prices for so many great things- just weighed and priced per pound. (I totally asked around and found out we have one in our area here too! Score!)

Here's what you will need to make the mulling spices: Whole Cloves, Whole Allspice, Cinnamon Sticks and dried orange peels. You will also need cheesecloth and baker's twine. (They were out of dried orange peel at the bulk foods place so I just peeled a bunch of oranges and used my food dehydrator to make my own)

Place a pinch of each in a square of cheesecloth and tie in a knot. The wine cork is tied to the spices to help them float in your crock pot. Just make sure to purchase a bottle of wine that has a cork for your gift! The instructions are included below.

Now the fun part! I created these fun {FREE!!} labels to add to your wine bottle and a tag to hang on the mulling spices with instructions. I just love the song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and couldn't resist including it for this gift.Just click here to download them. There's 2 per sheet.

This is the label for the front of the bottle - it's 4 X 6.

The below is the tag for the mulling spice. Just cut it out, fold in half at the middle and punch a hole for the twine.

I know you are thinking to yourself, would this be yummy? It really is! As soon as I made this first bag of spices, we used it right up. I was so excited to try it, I forgot to take a picture of the bottle of wine before I poured it in the crockpot. Darn. I had to run to get another one..... oh well ;).

Don't forget that the mulling spices could also make great home scent by just adding the spices to a pot of water and heating on the stove!

Here are the instructions as they are printed on the tag above:

Instructions for Holiday Cheer:
Remove cork from wine bottle and tie to mulling spice bag. Mix the following ingredients in a crock pot and warm on low.
1 bottle red wine (semi-sweet)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cup water
package of Mulling Spices
Steep Mulling Spices for 45 minutes. Serve warm. Enjoy!

FALL WOOD SIGN AND VIGNETTE - GOING GOLD!

Hey there! Fall is finally here. I am so excited. Last weekend finally felt like fall weather and I was totally craving apple cider and football! Can I get an aw yeah?

Sooo.... It's that time to start breaking out the fall decor and making the house feel warm and cozy. I have to tell you that this post is monumental for me. I made this wood sign all by my lonesome!

What?!? That's right, I cut all the wood, screwed it all together and stained / painted it. Normally, I'm not allowed to cut the wood or put things together. It's not my scrumptious hubs fault. I kind of have a bit of, um, history with accidentally injuring myself. LOL. But, he let me use the power saw. WOO HOO!

Funny enough, he came over and asked me if he could put of the screws in the wood. He can't resist my craziness - insert maniacal laugh here.

I cut a 1X4 into 5 - 22" inch pieces. I cut additional lengths to attach the pieces together vertically in the back. Before screwing them together I used sandpaper to take away the hard edges, making it look a bit worn.

I stained the entire piece and let dry. Find a fall picture you like and print out to the size that works for you. I used painter's tape to add my leaf to the sign. Then, just paint over with cream paint. Remove the paper and you will have a cool outline.

Remembering to go GOLD, I cut out "grateful" with my Cricut and used the outline to paint the lettering on the sign with gold paint. Perfect touch!

The sign was placed on top of my pantry and I added a few touches to make a fall vignette. The kiddos gathered up a bunch of acorns from the yard to fill my mason jars and a "cup running over." ;)!

The Boo and I picked some sticks and glue dotted leaves to them. I also purchased a couple of pumpkins from Hob Lob to complete the look.

To keep up with the gold theme, I added gold paint to the smaller pumpkin in the ridges and stem. I also colored in the metal leaves on the cream pumpkin (they were purple) with a gold sharpie.

So simple and what an impact the wood sign is! Bring on fall! I'm loving this weather.

Howdy! I hope you are having a great week! I'm looking forward to being done with all the humidity that has hit PA this week. Yuck!

I just wanted to say that you all are fabulous for hanging out with me for my Going Gold month. I really appreciate you helping to bring awareness to Childhood Cancer.

I know I have been giving you links to visit and show support, but I thought you may want to personally send your encouragement to moms and families that are the bravest people!

I created an encouragement card that you can click on below to print out. Here's what to do: Contact a local Pediatric Cancer Organization to work with. Print out some cards and write a little note inside. Take / Mail your cards and envelopes (ready to be mailed with the stamp on it) to the pediatric cancer org and ask them to mail them out to their families.

It's a personal way to show your support even if you don't know the family. They are warriors for their kids and could use a bit of acknowledgement, right?

There are 2 documents to the card. Print out the front on white card stock, then place your paper like so:

and print the second "inside" on the other side. You will have two cards that will fit in an A4 envelope (4.25 X 5.75) once you cut the paper in half at 5.5 inches.

FALL LITTLE GIRL CAPELET - GOING GOLD!

HI! So glad you are here today! Did you know that My Cup Runneth Over is honoring Childhood Cancer Awareness month in September by going gold (the color for the cause)?!?!?! Have you taken the challenge of letting people you know that it is Childhood Cancer Awareness? If so, you are AWE.some.

Today's project is one that I am super excited about. I just love when a plan comes together, don't you? I just love fall and I have wanted to make my daughter, The Boo, a fall cape for soo long. I am in love with how it turned out.

OK, here's how easy it was. I cut my fabric in a large circle. I made mine 26 inches in diameter. I measured The Boo's neck and cut a circle (5 inches diameter in the center). Cut the same two circles out of GOLD lining fabric and then cut a straight line to make the opening.

All I did for the collar was fold my remaining fabric in half and then cut a 3 1/2 inch half circle out using the center circle from above as a guide. I am so sorry - I totally forgot to take pictures as I was sewing. I got in the zone and just kept going.

OK, so my tutorial is crap. BUT, hopefully the end result will inspire you. I attached "leather" (vinyl), rope and wood buttons for toggles to the front as well a hook and eye at the neck.

A gold headband and shoes complete the "ready for pumpkin picking" outfit. I love that it is lined and technically, we could put the gold side out too. Reversible! (This is The Boo trying to show you her gold lining...)

Totally in love with the look. Plus, what a fun time we had taking pictures! After we were done, we went on an acorn hunt for our fall decor this year! OH how I looooovvvee FALL!

I recently saw this really cool mug on Pinterest and I just had to try it out. It's from Good and Messy to see her original post click here. It is such a cute, simple craft.

I grabbed a few mugs and wine glasses at the dollar store and a few Sharpies at Wal-mart. I cut out letters with the Cricut and used a Xyron to make it a sticker.

I added it to the mug and just made dots all around the letter. Dot. Dot. Dot. Very easy and it only took me about 15 minutes.

After it was complete, I removed the sticker and baked it in the oven at 250 degrees for an hour. I placed it in the oven before I turned it on and then let it cool completely in the oven after turning it off.

I loved it so much that I decided to add some dots to wine glasses to make them special!

The gold on all of them looks awesome and really does look metallic. LOVE. love. love.

Just for kicks, I did one in an emerald green. The only thing that went wrong with this one is that I happened to buy an extra fine point Sharpie. UGH. The dot dot dot took about a half hour. LOL.

I think these are super gifts. You can really personalize them and any sticker would work. Once you remove the sticker, I suggest just rubbing off any leftover residue with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. Be careful not to hit your dots.

Happy September!! I have a big announcement today that I am very honored to be sharing with you!

A few weeks ago, a special friend of mine and fellow blogger, Pauline, wrote a post challenging her readers to go for the GOLD. What exactly does that mean, you ask?

This is a picture of our kids. Her Sam and my Boo. They love one another. It's the sweetest thing and we cherish their childhood love. They look like two happy kids, sitting at a baseball game, enjoying the outdoors. What's the difference between the two? One thing. Sam has leukemia. The big C word. Cancer.

Hits you right in the gut. I remember when Sam was diagnosed. What can you say to your dear friend? In our conversations since, Pauline and I have talked about the fact that childhood cancer eludes our sense of reality. We weren't aware it really happens until it did. It's something that you don't even hear about until it happens to you or someone close to you. Then you realize it is everywhere.

You see pink, you know it means breast cancer awareness. It is important to know. To help those affected by a monster. But did you know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month? GOLD. Gold is the color for this month. To tell someone about childhood cancer, to look up your local pediatric cancer organization and lend a hand, some time and a whole lot of love.

Pauline and I love to write our blogs. They may reach different communities of bloggers, but I believe that this month we should come together. This blog is my way of sharing my love of crafty things. I generally don't share personal beliefs, and try to keep things light around here. This month, however, I have been challenged. Challenged to help spread the word for Sam, for us to remember the gold.

All of the crafty projects I'm working on this month are gold themed. Each time I post my normal craftiness, I will also share a couple of other sites to help you spread the word about Childhood Cancer.

Please share them, tell 5 people that September is all about the GOLD. I challenge all of you to help these brave families share awareness. Make your own gold craft to share, share a local website that helps promote the gold, or patronize a business that donates to Pediatric Cancer Research.

CLOSET DOOR UPDATE

Hi there! How was your week? It has been a busy one for us! The Bug is heading to first grade and we were very excited for Meet the Teacher night!

Today, I wanted to show you a simple update I recently did to our closet doors in the dining room. (I know, closet doors? in the dining room? our house is so teeny that the coat/linen closet is in the dining area ... fun fun)

When we re-did the dining room awhile back I originally stained all the molding with Jacobean stain from Minwax. To keep it similar I thought staining the closet doors would be good. OH how I was wrong. The staining elves were having a good chuckle at how they turned out.

Bad, right? Not only was the stain job terrible, but the 4 dark doors sucked the light out of the room. UGH. I debated what to do. I finally decided to paint them the same color as the ceiling. A creamy white.

They look better! I also helped with the light-sucking problem. Gave the room a bit of a boost. The other thing I added this time was handles! Really pretty, simple handles from Lowe's (allen & roth).

I just love them. It is a great little touch to make it look a little classier.

FRAMED COOKIE CUTTERS

Happy Tuesday! I am gearing up for school to start next week! I'm working on something fun for the tweens. Can't wait to show you!

For now though, I wanted to show you my framed cookie cutters. I have been receiving many gifts from my grandmothers. I just love knowing that I can use the same cookie cutters they used when I was a kid. It's so special for me and for my kiddos.

I was putting all my cutters in a tin to store them and I realized that they were just too cool to hide away. I wanted to show them off! Here's how I did it.

1. Materials: large frame, thick piece of cork board (I used 2 - 12X12 pieces together), a piece of fabric to cover the cork, a hot glue gun, Liquid Nails Clear Sealant, and straight pins (preferably with heads).

2. Clean the glass really well on your frame. Lay cork on top of fabric and hot glue edges to the back side of the cork, making sure to pull it tightly.

3. After hot gluing fabric on cork, spread the Liquid Nails Clear Sealant over the back side of the cork. Place back side down onto the top of your glass frame. I put it on the glass for easier clean-up. Also, you can always change out the paper / fabric behind the glass in the frame for each season if you wish.

Pull out all your cookie cutters and arrange them on the fabric covered cork. Once you have them where you want them, place straight pins in the cork for the cookie cutters to "hang" on. You may need to place the pins where they can go through holes in the cutters.

I wanted mine to be invisible, so I tried to hide the pins the best I could. There you go! A cute frame for your kitchen with hanging memories! Plus, the fun part is, I can take them off at anytime, wash it off, and use it!

It made my kitchen feel a bit more complete. I'm so happy with the result! Have you done anything fun with your family's memories? I would love to hear about it!

KITCHEN WALL REDO

Hey There! I apologize for all the technical difficulty this week with the pictures on the blog. UGH. Needless to say, I hope you will still come back and visit. The kinks are being worked out... translation: technical gobblety gook.

So, I have been slowly working on many projects around the house. One thing that recently got a bit of an update is the kitchen. A while back, I showed you how we slimmed down our old TV cabinet to make it a pantry. When I showed you the finished product it was a blank slate. Click here to see how we slimmed it down.

This is what the wall looked like before.

BLAH. White walls. Bad molding. Because it is in the kitchen so close to the stove, it looks terrible. It was driving me nuts! I broke out the leftover paint from the dining room and got to work. I just did the one wall because I'm not entirely sure what I am doing to the kitchen.

Looks better, right? I added a frame to the wall and just a couple items on top of the pantry. I just love a bit of greens! Makes things feel fresh.

The frame on the wall is something I was so happy to finally complete. I'll be sharing a tutorial on Tuesday on how I did it - plus, of course, closer pictures. I hope you have a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

ROMANTIC WALL ART

Happy Friday All!! I hope you had a great week! It's been super stinkin' hot here in the Northeast and I'm praying for some relief by Sunday.

We have been slowly working on our master bedroom lately... I really don't expect it to be done anytime soon, but I wanted to show you a piece I finished. I am totally in love with it.

You all know from my past posts that I really hate to throw things away that I think I can make into something else. This project was no exception. I utilized wooden boards from an old crate that was my grandfather's. I had used it as an outdoor decoration for years, but it started to fall apart. I just couldn't throw it away.

Our master bedroom is decorated in neutrals so I wanted this to be very rustic looking. I purchased a board at Michael's and spray painted it white. I also VERY lightly went over the crate boards with spray paint. This gave them a weathered look. (Don't you love my spray paint area?!?!)

I glued the boards down with clear liquid nails. Once it was dry, I printed out an & symbol I liked and made marks for nails. This created my string art. I also had purchased our first name initials on a clearance sale from Kohls. Mercury glass ornaments for $1.50 each! WOO!

The scrumptious hubs pre-drilled all the holes for the nails. This was very important because the boards were so fragile. We did not want them to crack or split. I added the nails and just used embroidery floss to "connect the dots."

What do you think? A little romance for our bedroom! Sweet and simple. Plus, it's a bonus to still have pieces of the crate! I hope your weekend is fantastic!!

WATERMELON OREO POKE CUPCAKES

Hey There!

It seems I can't leave well enough alone. There are so many different flavor of Oreos out right now and they are calling my name. The rainbow sherbet Oreo series I did was very fun, so when I saw Watermelon Oreos at Target I felt the need to try something else.

I may turn into an Oreo after all the fun I have had creating recipes surrounding the newly released flavors! This one did not disappoint!! I was searching for something to make for dessert for the 4th of July and this popped into my head.

Watermelon Oreo Poke Cupcakes with Whipped Frosting. YUM.

They are so light and refreshing with the icing. Plus, I just love a cold cupcake. I have no idea why, but I would rather have cake cold. I know, the weirdness of me continues. lol.

Here's how easy they were to make!

Watermelon Oreo Poke Cupcakes
1 package white cake mix (and ingredients called for on the box)
1 package watermelon jello (and ingredients called for on the box)

Frosting:
1 8oz. package cream cheese, softened
2 cups marshmallow fluff
1 8oz. container cool whip

Place cupcakes wrappers in pan and place 1 Oreo in the bottom of each opening. Mix cake mix per directions on the box. Add batter over the Oreos in the pan filling each almost to the top. Bake per cake mix instructions and make sure to test to see if it is done.

After the cupcakes are cooled, make jello according to package instructions. Poke holes, using a skewer in each cupcake. Carefully pour a tablespoon of jello into the top of each cupcake. Refrigerate 3 hours or overnight.

To make the frosting, beat together the cream cheese and the marshmallow. Fold in cool whip until combined. Refrigerate until chilled. Add to cupcakes and refrigerate until re-chilled. ENJOY!

I also added some watermelon candies just for fun. They tasted great, not overpowering with watermelon, but just enough. The cookie stayed crunchy and didn't turn soggy. So yummy!

BOX FULL OF SUNSHINE GIFT

I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine....I got a love and I know that it's all mine, oh, oh oh oh....
Oh yes... I just totally put that song in your head!! GOOD! I've been singing it for a few weeks now. Join me! What's the reason I started singing you ask? Well, a wonderful friend of mine was desperately in need of some sunshine.
It was a hard week for her and her family and we wanted to make them smile. You can see more about her story by reading her bloggy diary HERE.
Enter the box of sunshine. I have seen many on Pinterest, but they all seem to center around candy. We are trying to keep it a bit healthier around here so I went on the hunt for a yellow basket of "healthier" items.

FRAMED NAME: BY THE LETTER

Hello All! Thanks for stopping by! I'm sorry to say that even though our camping trip was a blast, we were completely wiped out last week. I didn't even get enough done to share anything with you! But not to worry, this week has been busy getting more projects around the house completed!!

Sooo...today I am sharing something I worked on last year I haven't shared with you yet! Me? holding back projects? Nah..... ;)

I wanted to put The Boo's name in her big girl ladybug room we redid last summer. It need to be cheery and bright to match her room.

I purchased wood cut letters for her name and then carried them around in my purse for what seemed like forever!! Every time I would shop for frames I would pull out another letter to make sure they were the right size for the letter. Crazy!

I painted all the letters white, painted the frames colors of her room and used the leftover pillow fabric as backgrounds in the frames.

I just used clear liquid nails to add the wood letters to the glass on the frames. I kept the glass on instead of gluing to the fabric, because I thought it would make it easier to clean.

Put them all up on an IKEA ledge and there you go! Simple and fun!

CAMPING SNACK MIX and FREE CAMPING CHECKLIST

Howdy! Happy Friday!

We are about to pack up the car and attempt our first camping trip of the summer. I'm hoping I have not forgotten anything and that it goes smoothly. We are tent campers for now. I really would love a camper, but that will come in time. For now, it's just fun to get outside for an entire weekend and play!

Since we are packing up, I thought I would share with you my secret camping weapon. It's sure to clam up whining and complaining of any kind. SNACK MIX. Yup, it's fun. We serve it in plastic cups - just scoop some and eat.

Because it is in a cup, it will fit in the cup holder of your camp chair. Easy, right? We never really make it the same way twice. I always take the kids to the store and let them choose what they want to mix in.

We dump it all in a humongous bowl and just stir it up. Here are the things we picked this time: M&Ms, Golden Grahams, Honey Nut Chex, Chocolate Teddy Grahams, Pretzel Sticks, raisins and peanuts.

Yum! Yum! We can't wait to eat some. I swear I didn't eat any when I made it. Well, maybe that's not the entire truth.....

Just for fun too, I am sharing my camping checklist that I use for weekend trips. (just click on the link to download the excel file.) The hubs loves to cook breakfast, so that's our biggest meal. The rest is just burgers and dogs.

I am also a big fan of buying a veggie tray and making a fruit tray. That way, the kids can snack on that stuff too. Anything that's easy is the way to go!! Now, if I could just ~~survive~~ enjoy the instant coffee, we will be OK. I hope you have a great weekend!!

LEGO STORAGE PEGBOARD

Hey! Hey Friends! To say I am excited for this post is a bit of an understatement. I am bursting at the seams!! The Bug and I worked on this most of the day and I think it's finally ready to show you!

As a Mom, I constantly find myself growling under my breath at the ~~mess~~ path of destruction my kids tend to leave with toys.

I have an inner struggle. The complete Virgo in me thinks that everything should have a place. An organized, well thought out place.

I fight it because I also want my kids to play with the toys they have. Sometimes, this means leaving them out, so the battle of Lego people can begin again tomorrow where it left off. Grumble Grumble. Wrinkling nose....

My six year-old boy is obsessed with building Legos. He loves to sit and listen to music and put together all the STUFF. And take it apart and make new stuff.

It's great, but I was noticing that the simple IKEA desk we purchased for him when school started looked like this. Yep, everyday.

He even has it roped off in this picture - to warn visitors I suppose. The desk was making me CRAZY. I needed to get all the stuff off the desk!! But where do I go with it? UP! I grabbed a piece of pegboard and some 1X2s and got to work. I used the leftover red paint from The Boo's big girl room to paint the pegboard. It looked a bit plain so I added some frog tape and spray painted the metallic racing stripes.

The hubs added a frame with the 1X2s on the back and attached it with screws right through the peg board. I made sure to paint the sides of the frame too. We placed the pegboard on the desk and attached it with L brackets. You could also hang it on the wall too! It would work just as great.

I also spray painted a board in the same metallic to place on the shelf brackets we got as part of a pegboard multi-pack. I purchased some plastic buckets to hold al the smaller stuff (4 for $1.00 at the dollar store). That's it! The entire project cost about $20.00. This is the after...

The Bug and I had fun figuring out how to put everything up and what to do with each bracket that came with the pack. We still have some leftover to add if we want.

My favorite part of all of it though, is the way The Bug thought of to put the Lego guys up. They just clip onto this rack! AWESOME.

We used straight hooks to hold things up too, sort of like a makeshift shelf.

It it so cool to now see the top of his desk. It's funny, before he would play for a bit and then say he didn't have any room, and now he couldn't wait to sit down and play with everything.

I love how the Ninja Turtles fit in the circle hooks and the foot soldier fits in the screwdriver peg using the one leg.

We really do have more room to add a couple more pegs, but I am saving those for when I notice the desk starting to get cluttered once again. It will happen. I know it, you know it. Let's just enjoy this while it lasts, k? LOL.

Howdy! How are you today?!?! I'm excited for the weekend ahead - baseball and yard sales. Perfect summertime combination.

I wanted to share a very simple dessert with you that you can completely make in a pinch. NO BAKING REQUIRED!

Let me first say that the pictures for this one are bad folks. I've been trying to learn more about my camera, but I took these dandys last year... [bloggy embarrassed face]

The good news for you though, is that the dessert is totally yummy.

Not sure what to call them - Caramel Snickerdoodle Ice Cream Sandwiches. That sounds about right.

Here's what you will need:
-2 bags Pepperidge Farm Soft Baked Sanibel Snickerdoodle Cookies
-Vanilla Ice Cream (or any flavor you like!)
-Caramel Topping (I would not use regular ice cream topping, but something thicker - like this Tastefully Simple one)
-Cinnamon Caramel Sprinkles (Tastefully Simple - but you could use anything that is similar)
-Holiday Sprinkles of your choice!
Makes 8 sandwiches.

Everything was purchased from the store (or Tastefully Simple) and then put together in about 10 minutes.

Top with another cookie and then roll in your colorful sprinkles! I wrapped mine up individually with waxed paper and placed them in the freezer.

You only need about an hour of freezer time for them to firm up and SERVE!
