REVIEW | SONY MDR - 1A

It is time to talk music again. A while ago I as approached by the lovely people at SONY to review two of their high-res (the best quality in the market) technology equipment. The SONY WALKMAN and MDR – 1A Head phone. Yes I included a litte video of me acting akward on camera.

My first impression:

The first impression I had of the two devices was the nice black textured housing they both had. After that I noticed the metallic red accents on the headphone which adds a pop of color to the all-black headphone. The audio jack had a nice vintage gold color accent and furthermore the headphone has a nice speckled finish on the ear cups which is a refreshing texture on the headphone. All these elements make this a visually attractive headphone, which usually is not the case with other headphones.

The sound

First things first. The bass and stereo in this headset is one of the best features of this headset. The sound quality of the headphone like the slogan already predicts, one of the best in the market . The base especially feels pleasant when listening to the headphone. I especially love to listen to songs with a lot of base in them and all of my favorite songs sounded perfect trough the headphone. The sound range in this headset is very broad, without feeling to pitchy. It in stead let’s songs sound smooth. The only downfall is that the isolation of the headphone is not the best available, probably because of the plastic material which feels somewhat thin on the ear cups, which lets sound slip through. So I recommend to not blast your guilty pleasure songs in public transport if want to keep them on a down low.

The headphone is very lightweight and extreme comfortable to wear on the ears and around the neck. The ear pads are one of the softest around and are easy to wear on the ears for a long time period. I listen to a lot of music when editing and writing my blogposts, I use my in ears because I normally find headphones way too heavy for a long time us, but the feather light design of the MDR – 1A surprised me and had me listening to my favorite songs without wanting to throw away. Therefore in over all I would recommend the SONY WALKMAN and MDR – 1A Head phone as the perfect combination for travel.

Meet MARCUS.E. the new brand in town. In very excited to see new and upcoming menswear lines ready to enter the fashion platform. Especially when you know and see that someone is passionate about what they’re doing.

But what is MARCUS.E? The Dutch fashion brand with international allure is based in Amsterdam and founded by one of my friends and ex-blogger Angelo Elizabeth.

From an early age on fashion was the biggest passion of Angelo which eventually lead to the move to Amsterdam and experience working in the Dutch fashion industry. After blogging since 2011 and a trip to Paris Fashion Week, the idea of his own brand was born.

The brand MARCUS.E is a merge of his illustrations skills, knowledge of fashion and creativity. At an early stage it was clear to him that his obsession with the hound’s tooth pattern will become the trademark of the brand. After months of experimenting and research, Angelo Elizabeth reinvented the hound’s tooth and made it retro cool. MARCUS.E incorporates the retro hound's tooth with modern/youthful aesthetics.

What started out as a one men’s project, has now grown into brand with even a creative team to assist.

Angelo Elizabeth decided to officially launch his brand with a capsule collection called MARCUS.E RETRO. The collection consists of every day essentials with a contemporary twist. His inspiration for the SS15 capsule collection is the sporty era that has been in the fashion world the last couple of years.

The collection consists of 4 sweaters and a longboard, which can be pre-ordered from 24^th of April till 15^th of May. And later this year the RETRO collection will be expanded with T-shirts and polo’s.

About the remarkable choice for a longboard in his collection Angel expresses:

VIDEO | COS x Snarkitecture

Time for a digital ZEN moment. COS revealed their collaboration with New York- based studio Snarkitecture at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan. The result is an Art Installation which will take you to a completely different and more relaxing place. The designers from Snarkitecture, Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen were asked to create the perfect environment that reflects the brand’s core DNA. The result is an installation that speaks to an appreciation of clean lines, the ambiguity of transparency and the transformation of the everyday into something extraordinary. Snarkitecture transformed Spazio Erbe in Brera to create an immersive translucent cave.

Arsham and Mustonen Express: “We’re very excited for people to experience the installation we've created with COS for Salone del Mobile. The final space has a sense of calmness and wonder that we hope visitors will explore and return to. The undulating spaces and the shifting quality of light seem to create a different experience with each visit”.

Snarkitecture describe “removing anything non-essential and focusing the viewer’s experience” and comparably the COS aesthetic is often described as clean and modernist. Also, COS and Snarkitecture both believe in the importance of collaboration, each creating collections and projects through the combined effort of their close-knit design teams. With these shared values in mind, COS commissioned Snarkitecture to create an inspiring, relaxing space in celebration of Milan design week.’

This is collaboration marks COS’ fourth outing in Milan during Salone del Mobile and it builds on previous art and design collaborations with the Serpentine Galleries, Frieze Art Fairs and the Barbican. More information about this project and COS can be found here:

When the sun hits the wonderful city of Amsterdam it’s always to go for a little walk into the concrete jungle. I love how I can get lost into countless little ‘grachten’ (canals) Amsterdam has to offer. When I look at the old monumental canal houses with modern minimalist interiors , I can only appreciate the fusion between old and new. Classics with a twist. Although times may change and the society may as well. The good things in life are here to last. That’s why I wanted to share these original Clark desert boots with you guys. I feel like Clarks, especially with the desert boots, has become a icon and a timeless classic on it’s own. That’s why these Grey Stone Snake Desert Boots reminded me of the Amsterdam canals, as these shoes like the canals, are classics with a modern day twist. They gave my outfit the right amount of white needed to complete this playful down town look.

In the always exiting world of fashion, rules are sometimes made to break and alter to your likings. As a true admirer of timeless classics, I am the first in line to draw inspiration from the past. Yet why go for the usual pick of wardrobe items, if you can also change it and make a look completely yours.

That’s why I went on the hunt for something classic with a unique touch.

Rules are sometimes made to broken and altered to your likings. Because a fashion lover like you and me, or let’s say aspiring style icon, must find those exciting items which will completely change a boring conventional look into something more exiting and fashionable.

That’s why finding the perfect items, in this case the perfect shirt can be quite the challenge. Especially online, where I love to browse through several shops at once to score that perfect item, but sometimes it’s nice to have a place where all my favorite stores come together.

Therefore I couldn’t be happier when I stumbled upon this Blue Kenzo shirt via kleding.nl. I often browse through the website to find the collections of several shops at once. I was so happy when my eye caught this hidden gem!

The KENZO abstract panel shirt I’m wearing in this outfit is an underestimated statement shirt. The subtile lines on the concealed front fastening give this shirt it's designer look. Refers back to the Asian and Japanese influenced style which KENZO became popular with, mixing oriental influences with European high fashion. The classic collar and the curved hem are a must for me, which make the shirt, with the attention for details worth the investment in my opinion.

The touch of colors of my Ballonet socks gives the look an extra pop, especially with these Karl Lagerfeld statement platform shoes in black. I have been wearing them for way too long now, but we all have that pair of shoes we keep going back to. The combination of all these different elements is what makes this look work for me. The pop of color and print complement each other - this combination makes this look become a synergy of lines.

I know, it’s officially spring and we’re still walking around with beanies and knits to keep ourselves warm. What better way to keep yourself nice and warm then with an much appreciate knit item.

For this look I decided to double the knits and go for a knitted beanie and very cool knitted vest from Monta Heritage which gives this look the warmth and designer element it was craving. With the help of these blue HUB Camden shoes, the look got that much needed pop of color. And yes, I do love my blue.

LOOKBOOK | NOMBRE de IDENTIFICATION “OUT OF SEASON 15”

Normally I am not that keen on sharing complete lookbooks on my blog, but for NOMBRE DE IDENTIFICATION, an Ukrainian avant-garde clothing brand with a sustainable heart, I had to change it up a little. The principal idea of the brand is the usage of unusual, previously used materials, which I think makes it a strong and relevant brand to keep an eye on.

The brand does not only innovate by the materials they use, they also search for new kinds of textile processing, unique ideas in designs, like the combination of backpack and jacket in one item etc. As they explain; NOMBRE DE IDENTIFICATION is the brand of unusual but smart clothes of the sophisticated designs, clothes wearing you feel special. The top feature of the first collection of the brand, called “OUT OF SEASON 15”, is the conceptual material which is based on 100% cotton undergoing several stages of treatment and painting, eventually covered with the protective layer of liquid rubber.
The collection includes: jacket of a complex cut with unusual details and the backpack fastened by a zipper to the back of it; jacket with a zipper along the spine, which splits it into two parts; jacket with kind of a pocket-backpack (pocked-slash-backpack) made of intersecting black gums on the back; knitted t-shirt with zippers splitting them into two parts; saggy bodies; bag in the form of familiar to everyone grocery package; sweatshirt designed in such a way that lets you change the inscription on it as you wish containing the alphabet in a set with it. Special attention should be given to the idea of the label, which is basically them square piece of the Velcro material covered by the leather labels of the brand.

The first collection is presented in my favorite two colors - white and black.

OUTFIT | Mesh it Up

Let’s mesh it up. As a big admirer of sporty fabrics, I have to be honest and confess that when the whole sporty trend entered the fashion landscape II didn’t feel like I could or even would pull off mesh within a look. I thought Mesh was like crop tops for men and Capri trousers only predestined for the models, actors and Instagram smooth boys amongst us to pull off, but recently I have taken the challenge upon myself to mesh up my wardrobe.

The result is, when using Natalia Kills logic, a Micheal Jackson look-a-like outfit. Like Micheal, I also don’t like to expose much skin. Therefore I went for a shirt underneath the mesh. In my case I went for the all white crisp shirt, which because of the white puts even more emphasis on the blue mesh sweater. Emphasizing even the bight blue color even more.

The trick is to layer until you get the desired look and which allows you to shift your look throughout the day. Mixing it up and changing it to suit every moment.

The pointy shiny shoes in combination with the hat is what really pull this look together for me. Without those and my black pencil trousers with zippers on the side, Yes I actually own one and yes they can be unzipped until the waistband, this look wouldn't be complete. What do you guys think? One of my recent favourite editorial is from fashion photographer Marco Van Rijt and stylist/model Ezra Shami (Scoop Models) and their interpretation of Danish menswear label BRAND8’s SS15 collection African Bauhaus. The images are shot at the dockside district of Copenhagen Freeport (BRAND8 HQ) capturing the industrial feeling of the old harbor hood.

The mood is set for a contrasted contemporary urban aesthetic. A melange of warm wood and cold containers. Steel and bricks. Bright colors and dark light. Soft cotton and crispy nylon. Smooth skin and a tough gaze. Sharp edges and shoulders dropped. Youth and ruin. Rust and bone. Beauty and decay.

Spanish shoe maker Meyba released some new sneakers last week. The brand included two different editions into their shoe line for the Spring Summer 2015 collection along side adding exclusive new colors to their classic MEYBA Jogger shoe.

The uni edition comes in essential basic colours (white, grey, black, navy) complemented by summery pastels: mint green and coral. Besides that there is a colour block edition, mixing summery pastels with neutral colours.

The Jogger has ripstop side counters with suede overlays, a suede vamp, an isaac textile collar and navy lining and insock. Further details are the navy-white EVA, the navy downsole and stabiliser and the gold embossed branding on the heel counter.

Let’s talk essentials. Lately I have been obsessed with my new black bag from Topman. The easiness and practicality which comes with it have really opened my eyes on practicality in my every day attire. I learned that there is actually no need to wear unpractical items all the time. When your running around most of the time like I have to do, a couple of functional basics will just do the trick. It’s hard to find outstanding stores in todays retail environment, especially denim. That’s why I was pleasant surprised when on Wednesday, March 4th The Bakery officially opened its doors in Reusel.

The new denim store-cum-meeting place is housed in a former bakery and traditional atmosphere that was fully preserved. Making it one of the most exciting denim stores I have ever seen. I think real denim freaks who like shopping, but truly love the authentic denim feel will feel indulged in denim when entering The Bakery.

When entering the authentic bakery, I was welcomed by the sweet smell of cookies and the even friendlier faces of the personnel working in the store.

From the oven, the workshop, the sales desk: everything breathes the pure authenticity of craftsmanship, hard work and mystical past. The Bakery offers an inspiring concept beyond fashion, with its link to food and lifestyle, it aspires to be the meeting place where people can share experiences, while enjoying a freshly baked cookie or the store’s square "signature bread ' carrying the shops name.

VIDEO | EMMA'S FUN(D) RAISING NIGHT 2014

Although it’s not Thursday, I’m going back in time to share a video with you guys that put a smile on my face.

On Friday, March 28th, 2014, the fourth edition of Emma's Amazing Fun (d) Raising Night took place in the Gashouder in Amsterdam. By dint of a very successful auction and generous spending by the attendance, the Foundation managed to raise the charitable amount of € 465,800, -.

The entire proceeds of the auction was donated to the Emma Children to realize the project 'metamorphosis'.
The 19 extraordinary auction items included; seating cards for the Chanel show in Paris, tickets to the World Cup Football Match: Netherlands - Spain, a haute couture dress by Dutch fashion designer Jan Taminiau and extra special training for the marathon in New York by the famous personal trainer Radmilo Soda.

After the auction singer Robin S surprised the generous guests with her appositely worldwide hit; "Show Me Love".

With € 1,541,900, - on the counter Foundation Embrace Emma will organize next year's final edition to hopefully raise at least € 458,100, - to reach the desired total amount of 2 million euros, the amount needed to realize 'metamorphosis'.

The purpose of the Emma’s Children hospital for seriously ill patients is to offer, in addition to the best care, to provide an as normal as possible environment such as facilities for parents, friends and family, which cannot be funded by the government.

Though often we’re caught up in our own hectic lives, it’s always nice to stand still to people less privileged then we are. I hope that with this year’s edition the hospital will have enough money to realize this extraordinary and heartwarming cause.

NEWS | TOPMAN OPENS FLAGSHIPSTORE AMSTERDAM

Yes yes, the day has come, on the 26th of February at 11:00 o’clock CET the very first flagship store in The Netherlands. The UK based TOPMAN will open it’s doors on the Amsterdam Kalverstraat 48/52. The Amsterdam flagship store will be the brands very first, yet hopefully not the last, steps onto European ground, joining the brands 254 UK and 153 international franchise stores.

Philip Green expresses: “The launch of our first European store is the start of a very exciting expansion plan across the continent. Amsterdam is an international city, with a burgeoning new fashion district and style conscious customer, so it feels like the right time to be here."

In honor of this thrilling event a number of Amsterdam limited editions items are release, only available in the Amsterdam flagship store. This limited edition designs are a mix of jersey T-shirts and –sweater that prove an honor to the city of Amsterdam.

The store will have the respective size of 1170 m2 and is distributed over three floors with the ground floor and the first floor  being TOPSHOP and in the basement TOPMAN.

Tommy is turning 30 this year and celebrates by going digital! In spirit of their 30^th anniversary the all American brand is showing a special limited edition Fall/Winter collection inspired Football and Varsity yet combined with the iconic timeless sporty American designs where we all know Hilfiger for.

To give us all a special treatment during this festive celebration and to give everyone at home the front row treatment, the show can be watched live online.
