A Google bomb is not just another piece of internet jargon, but quite a powerful tool when it comes to influencing the results of search-engine queries. While Google bombing isn't massively widespread, it has nonetheless appeared in a number of well-known incidents, often those affecting celebrities or politicians. It remains a concern for those involved in website SEO.

So what exactly is a Google bomb? A Google bomb occurs when a large number of websites link to a particular site by using the same anchor text. This anchor text can be anything as long as it's consistent throughout a wide number of websites. These sites could all be set up by the same party in some cases, simply to enable the Google bomb.

This anchor text is often an insult or funny comment related to the target website. When the phrase contained in the anchor text is searched for, the results will list the target site prominently, thanks to the ways in which Google's ranking algorithms work. This will occur because of the way in which the anchor text links have been set up, even if the phrase actually used for the link has no relevance to the content of the main website.

Google bombs are possibly only a trend in website SEO and sometimes occur purely as the result of accidents. They can, for example, happen if the anchor text used on many websites to link to a particular site is a common phrase such as 'click here'. Yahoo, for example, took out a patent for a process that employs a sentiment analysis to identify when Google bombs may be occurring. In particular, if the sentiment of the anchor text in question is negative in nature and the nature of the target website being linked to is positive, the links are ignored by the search engine when answering a query. The same would be the case should the anchor text be positive and the destination site more negative in nature.

Bing now powers Yahoo searches, so the sentiment-analysis method has not been fully tested or implemented. However, some commentators believe Google may use sentiment analysis to fight Google bombs themselves.

A final method could involve further analysis of web links, as performed by Google in their fight against Google bombs. The search giant was able to gain an increased understanding of how these links led to Google bombs. It was able to direct search results for the phrases used in the anchor text to actual discussions of Google bombs, rather than to the site targeted by the Google bombers. Although Google bombing isn't a hugely common problem, it has still not been entirely solved.

Estimated Cost

Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, has announced the inclusion of the Indian Grand Prix for 30 October 2011. Estimated to cost about 10 billion ($215 million) to build, it is expected to be completed by June 2011. It will have a length of 5.14 km and an area of 875 acres (354ha). Seating capacity is initially expected to be 110,000 with provisions to increase it later to 200,000.

Tickets

The Rs 2,500 tickets are for the natural stand, which can accommodate 6,500 fans. Then comes the picnic stand for which 8,000 fans will have to spend Rs 6,000 each. For the 36,838-seater classic stand, the tickets are priced at Rs 6,500. The two most expensive tickets for the race are for the premium stand and the main grand stand. While the price for a premium stand ticket is Rs 12,500 for 10,230 seats, it's a whopping Rs 35,000 for the 20,156 grand stand seats. According to a presentation by the organisers, the Buddh International Circuit has been divided into five zones-North, South, East, West and Paddock-with each one having its own parking facility apart from having a common F1 village, 10 ATMs and 30 shuttle buses to ferry spectators. The organisers also said they have tied up with several radio taxi companies and have arranged for chartered buses for the convenience of the fans. There is provision for parking for as many as 17,000 cars. The tickets for the most stands are sold out.

Circuit

The circuit will be part of the 2,500 acres (10 km2) Jaypee Greens Sports City, which is planned to include a 100,000 seat cricket stadium, 18-hole golf course, 25,000 seat hockey stadium and a sports academy. The sports complex is expected to cost 40 billion and generate $170m of revenue annually, and employ 10,000 people. The design was forwarded to the teams to gather feedback on how the circuit could be altered to improve overtaking and this has resulted in some minor changes as became clear from April 2010. The planned hairpin at turn seven will be removed, and the track at turn three will be widened to allow drivers to take different lines throughout the corner. More information was released in August 2010, revealing that there were plans to make the circuit one of the most challenging for drivers, with the circuit rising fourteen metres within the first three corners alone and a banked double-apex bend on the far side of the circuit.
