MyITCRM1 v0.2.9.3 Released!

Well it's a new year and we hope all the myitcrm users have had a wonderful time during the festive season. This release of MyITCRM is mainly to fix a Security bug which was introduced in the last version upgrade process. I sincerly apologise for this error which was made. If you want to know exactly what the issue was, you can simply PM me via the forum and I will explain.

To upgrade a previous version to the latest version simply download and extract the zip file locally on your computer, then upload these extract files and folders to your myitcrm server location. Then navigate to the /upgrade path and select which version you want to upgrade your existing version too.

We also recommend you change your myitcrm database password as a minimum precaution and also your database username and login credentials for maximum protection. Then open up your conf.php file to edit and update with the new database credentials. Once this is done login into your myitcrm installtion and change you and your users password for maximum protection.

Bug #252: client name not display on customer tab
Bug #259: Currency code not used in Paypal invoices - Defaults to USD
Bug #260: Upgrade Process and files review - sanitize data

MyITCRM1 v0.2.9.2 Released!

Well it's been almost 12 months since our last release and the Team at MYITCRM (shoulders and geevpc) would like to officially announce that MyITCRM1- v0.2.9.2 is Released!

This release is by far the biggest release we have made. With in total more the 70 Features added and Issues resolved.

We would also like to add that MyITCRM now compatible with PHP 5.3.4 or later.

We have also updated to a new wiki software for MyITCRM's documentation. There is still along way to go with many pages and tutorials to be written so if you can spare a few minutes why not head over to the wiki site and get creating great guides. If that's not your style but would like to know other ways to help out, please read this article on how to contribute to MyITCRM.

Also over the coming weeks we would like to gather more information in regards to what you use and what you don't use in MyITCRM1 via forum polls. These polls will be created on the forum so please check-in and have your say.

New 2.9.2 Release Shortly

Hello users of MyITCRM

This is my first blog post, one of many i hope.

This has been brought about by the imminent release of our newest release 2.9.2. This version has many improvements such as:

- invoice only
- combo box for parts and labour (enter your own amounts)
- transaction logs now show your national/selected currency
- added htaccess files to force SSL to prevent middle men attacks etc. and cache images for performance (these need activating)

I cannot remember the rest and that is why it is almost time for release (check the roadmap for details).

In the next release i am going to concentrate on tidying up all the code/modules that are there now and make them all fully translatable. You will be able to download translations as they become available as seperate packages because they have been removed from the distribution. After the second release who knows. I do have a lot of things i want to put in and get working before migrating to MyITCRM2. I will be updating MyITCRM 1 on a regular basis until MyITCRM 2 becomes the active product.

Hopefully i will be able to make the upgrade process a little bit easier, although it is not hard if i made it one or 2 clicks more frequent updates would be easier.

Feedback on the new release would be great, I know there are a few issues i have noticed but they will be fixed later.

New Website for MyIT CRM

New Website

Well it's been over 12 months since our last fresh looking website was created with the software program Redmine.

Redmine has served it's purpose and will continue to do so for our development team, it will continue to host all the bugs, features and roadmaps to future releases.

So what does the new website offer?

Cosmetically more pleasing.
More information on the project, all in the one spot.
New Wiki for better control and creation of Documentation.
Single Registration/Sign on (Website, Forum and Wiki) all at once!
Better Public presence for New Users and Great for our existing Users.

These are just some of the great improvements we have made so far.

For those of you who have signed up at http://team.myitcrm.com, you accounts will become inactive.
For those of you that have registered on the forum you will be able to continue using both username and password with the new site.

It has been a very successful year for MyIT CRM with many bugs and features being fixed and added regularly. MyIT CRM has been going from strength to strength throughout the year. We have had many users provide valuable input to features and bugs, plus also the dedication of the team to help out as much as we can has been outstanding.

We would also like to greatly thank those of you who have made a donation to the project this year. These donations help keep the project going and the ongoing costs down.

Next year we will see more bugs fixed and new features added to MyIT CRM. We will also be revealing our new website which will help make our public presence better plus also offer our valued users (both new and old) a better experience throughout in all aspects.

We will also have a public alpha release of MyIT CRM (RUBY) available and we will then begin the process of fixing bugs and adding features as well.

On behalf of the team behind MyIT CRM we wish all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

MyIT CRM v0.2.9.1 Released!

Well it's been a little while since our last release which was plagued by yet again several bugs.
We have fixed this and have also done a re-design of the upgrade section which will now allow users to upgrade to new releases much more easily.

Some of the main issues fixed are:

Bug #136: Can't edit "Billing Rates" Directly
Bug #137: Upgrade Process Issues
Bug #138: Backup process sends email to fixed address and not user defined
Bug #142: Currency Code not being Set for Online payment processing
Bug #143: Paypal not accepting payment.
Feature #139: customer database upgrades

Anyway, hope you enjoy using this software and please report any issues you may have in our forum.

Also we would appreciate your donations but we still need more. With MyIT CRM2 coming along fine we will be designing a brand new website with some great new features which will enable better integration of plugins and mods for myitcrm2 which will make it highly customizable for any of your businesses needs.

We are looking at raising about $119 USD to buy a joomla component called mosets tree which is the component the joomla extensions site uses to manage and categorise all it's extensions.
Also we have just paid our yearly rounds of hosting and domain fees so please keep up the great donations as they are greatly appreciated and help keep these services running.

MyIT CRM's Future - A total rewrite in Ruby/Rails!

MyIT CRM as been steadily developed of the 18 months since it's started.
Built from the Open Source Cite CRM version which was a great starting point at the time, it has become quite difficult to add all those features which you the users have requested.

It has been decided by the team that we will begin rewriting MyIT CRM from the ground up, and this time using Ruby and Rails programming language.
Now before you ask, MyIT CRM (php/current version) will continue to be developed and bugs resolved, and of course the odd feature thrown in as well, so you will be able to get updates and releases still for your current installs.

MyIT CRM (the Ruby version), has already begun development.
With all the features that you users have already requested are being planned for in advance in this rewrite.

Some quick Question/Answers:
Q: Why not just recode the current MyIT CRM php version?
A: The amount of time, I believe it would take to do this, would out-way the benefits that would be gained from a ground up rewrite.

Q: Why change the programming language from PHP to Ruby/Rails?
A: The whole php and mysql language to me was and still is a little daunting. Ruby language is more “human” like in it’s language and requires less double up in coding. Eg: Currently, to create a page in html and/or php code to show it to the user, then to manipulate the data using php and database queries.
In Ruby, the language generates this for you with minimal input. If interested check out http://railscasts.com for fantastic video podcasts and you soon get the picture.

Q: What about all my current data that is stored in the current MyIT CRM?
A: We will develop an export/ import process to import all your clients, invoices, labour rates, etc into the Ruby version so you hit the ground running!

I personally have been using/writing in ruby for last few weeks and am loving it. Sick I know, but compared to PHP it makes more sense to me.
I will be focusing my efforts on the rewrite whilst our other devs will continue on the php version in the interim until we have a comparable ruby version.
