If you were on Twitter yesterday, you probably have heard about the Maxis iPhone 3GS announcement. Yes Maxis is officially bringing the new iPhone 3GS.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 9 July 2009: Maxis Communications Berhad (‘Maxis’) today announced that it will bring iPhone 3GS to Malaysia later this month. Customers who wish to register their interest in iPhone 3GS from Maxis may visit the Maxis website at www.maxis.com.my/iphone3gs. More information will be released at a later date.

Apart from what was given, there is not much extra information. What would the plan rate be? Will the current iPhone 3G prices drop? We too are asking those question. We will post any official information as soon as we get our hands on it.

Apple claims that the new iPhone 3GS is almost twice as fast as its predecessor. In terms of sales, the iPhone 3GS probably sold twice as fast as well.

Apple announced today that the iPhone 3GS model has sold over 1,000,000 units since it’s launch last Friday in 8 countries around the world. Last year the iPhone 3G sold a million units in its first 3 days too, but back then it was being sold in 21 countries.

The news was so awesome that Steve Jobs even made his first press statement since he went on medical leave earlier this year.

“Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning,” Jobs said. “With over 50,000 applications available from Apple’s revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.”

Unfortunately, no word of when the iPhone 3GS will be available in Malaysia. Subscribe to our mailing list and be notified the moment we get news.

They are genuinely customer centric and don’t try to just make a quick buck.

In conjunction with their anniversary, Peggy Tan, Director of CG Computers wrote on their blog:

CG Computers want to be involved in activities – be that community activities, cultural activities, philanthropic activities – whatever it may be, we want to be involved in activities on a by-store basis that are supportive of the locale that we are operating in.

Having come so far in the past 14 years, CG Computers are not content to rest on their laurels but will continue to expand their retail operations and services to provide the best service to their customers.

Congratulations CG Computers on this marvelous achievement! myMacBUZZ takes our hat off to you. Keep up the great work!

I had blogged about FFmpegX before for converting video to iPod playable format. While the geek side of me said it’s good enough, the snobbish Apple-Mac side of me told me the user interface isn’t up to the Mac standard.

Video Monkey while not the most beautiful application on Mac OSX, it feels more Mac-ish compared to FFmpegX.

Video Monkey is a free video encoding application exclusively for Mac. It was created after the demise of the great tool Visual Hub. Video Monkey borrows heavily from the Visual Hub video conversion tool, both conceptually and from the original code dump posted to SourceForge as TranscoderRedux.

You can now convert all you .avi videos that you got from the Internet into a format that’s playable on your iPod, iPod Touch or iPhone. We not going to discuss in detail on how one get such videos, lets just say you have those.

You can queue up video files to be converted. Start and pause anytime you want. Did I mention it’s free? Only works on Intel Mac though.

It’s that time of the year again. It’s the time where Apple fanboys and developers have been waiting for. It’s Apple’s annual World Wide Developer Conference.

It’s also the time where I would stayed up hitting the refresh button on Safari to view live coverage of the event. So here is the brief run down of what went down at WWDC this year.

The keynote starts with new unibody MacBook Pro announcements. The MacBook Pro line now comes in 3 sizes, 13″ inch, 15″ inch and 17″ inch. Every MacBook Pro now comes with a built-in long-lasting battery. Another noticeable hardware upgrades is the SD slot on the side.

Next up was Snow Leopard. Just as expected, Snow Leopard is basically an Leopard update, that adds more refinements then features. It’s better, faster and easier with some new core technology that I’m pretty sure most developers just can’t wait to take advantage of it.

Snow Leopard now has built-in Microsoft Exchange support. So now there is no excuse not to get a Mac in your corporate business environment.

Snow Leopard is $29 for Leopard users, it’s just an upgrade basically, not a brand new OS.

The star of the show is none other then the iPhone. They recap what was announced during the iPhone OS 3.0 event, held previously. Cut, copy and paste, landscape mode on key apps, Spotlight search throughout the phone, iPhone safari supports HTML 5 which will enables HTTP streaming of audio and video. The iPhone OS 3.0 now also supports MMS, finally.

There are a few notable features, one of them is Find My iPhone. You can log into MobileMe and basically locate your phone then make it play a sound even if it’s on silent mode. If you found out that your phone is stolen, then you could wipe the contents remotely.

Also iPhone OS 3.0 supports tethering either via USB cable or Bluetooth. However this is only subject to telco provider that choose to supports it. No idea if Maxis going to support it or not.

And for the moment everyone is waiting for, new iPhone hardware, dub as the iPhone 3G S. At first glance, it looks no different to the previous iPhone 3G. Under the hud however, is a whole other story. It’s twice as fast compared to the iPhone 3G. As much as I would like to think that the ‘S’ in iPhone 3G S stands for ‘Steve’, it’s actually stands for ‘Speed’.

Speed is not the only major upgrade on this phone. It now has a 3 megapixel camera with auto focus, and the camera does video too. You can even edit the video on the phone.

A digital compass, now not only that the phone knows where you are, it also knows which direction you are looking at or what you are looking at.

Voice control lets you talk to your phone to make it do something, make calls, play music and stuff.

Of cause the all API to this new hardware features are made available to developers, so expect to see some cool apps that uses these.

New iPhone comes in two colors, black and white and two versions, 16GB and 32GB.

We’ll post the availability of everything mentioned here in Malaysia once we got the information. We’ll also have an in-depth review/write-up on everything announced at WWDC. Till then, stay tune. It’s 4 a.m. already and I’m signing out.
