by Joe

If you want to get better at boxing and significantly sharpen up your boxing techniques so you punch more effectively and can defend yourself then keep reading to discover more.

Here’s the thing; if you’re struggling to master boxing techniques then you’re going to be vulnerable when you fight other fighters.

Or perhaps you feel threatened or bullied and want to give the other person a good threshing. Well with the right boxing techniques you can do this. And it’s important you take the time to know how to throw the correct punches.

Once you know how to box effectively then you can fight anyone.

You may think it’s just two guys hitting each other. But it’s much more. In fact there are many different punches involved in boxing. However once you understand the different blows and hits then you become a far better boxer.

You need to learn to use different blows in different fight situations. When you combine your hard hitting blows then you’re able to ‘damage’ opponents making them easier for you to knock them out.

Once your boxing techniques are of a good enough standard then you can feel confident about boxing anyone.

And not just the punches. Consider your movements around the ring. The footwork, the ducking and weaving. These are all technical aspects to consider with your boxing.

So if you’re ready to improve your boxing techniques then here are 7 tips for you:

1. You need to impress your judges if your fight is being scored. The judges will give you points for throwing good boxing blows. Of course if you’re fighting outside of the ring then you only need to impress your opponent with a barrage of blows

2. Choose your boxing style very carefully. Do you want to lead with your left or your right? Which feels more natural to you? Or perhaps you may want to adopt both the boxing technique styles to make yourself a more dangerous opponent for others to fight.

3. You need to get fit. Very fit. So you can keep boxing from the start to the finish. Plus still keep throwing hard hitting punches at the same time. And at the same time keep dancing around your opponent taking hits at the same time to your body and head.

4. There are certain boxing techniques you need to use against different boxers. You wouldn’t use the same boxing technique when you’re facing a taller opponent compared to when you’re facing a shorter opponent.

5. Obviously you need to know how to avoid the different types of blows thrown at you.

6. Master the skill of feinting to trick your opponents. This will create openings for you which you can exploit.

7. You need to think about how far you throw your punches. And also how to improve your timing. By judging your distance better you’ll land more powerful punches. One good way is to use a punch bag to measure distance. When your opponent is throwing a punch at you that is the best time to hit him. Because his weight is coming towards you.

Follow these 7 tips and you’ll get better and advance your boxing techniques.

For all these reasons you need to consider which boxing program you choose very carefully.

You have many choices or options to learn boxing - either via a private trainer, a boxing gym or a boxing program from the comfort of your home.

Whatever way you learn I’m sure you’ll find an option that you’ll enjoy.

So how much time should you train in the gym? Well… Many people over train when they first start, so not too much. And others don’t get to the gym very often, so they don’t notice any results. This is obviously not enough. So what’s the middle ground? You should be training somewhere in the middle and that’ll vary depending on your lifestyle.

This is the ideal muscle building frequency. You should be doing weight training, with heavy weights (lifting about 5-7 reps, for 2-3 sets each muscle group) 3 times a week. No more, no less. The important part of this program is that you’re lifting heavy weights, with short rep counts. This stimulates your muscles to grow most effectively. Take 1 day off each week, so you don’t over train, and do some cardio on your off days if you’re looking to lose some weight too. Your training sessions should be no longer than an hour. This keeps your body in an anabolic state where your muscles grow most effectively.

The purpose of the weight training is to stimulate your muscles to grow. That’s it. Give your muscles the stimulation they need to grow, and you’ll get big in no time. When you’re sleeping, and while you’re at work, your hard work will be paying off.

The best thing about this kind of training is that you’re not a slave to the gym. You’ve now got plenty of time to hang out with your friends, and get your work done. It’s really that easy. Get to the gym 3 times a week, work out hard for 45 minutes and lift heavy weights.

If you follow these instructions, you’ll find that you’re making massive muscle gains in no time. Your friends will comment and you can tell them how easy it is. Keep in mind though, that if you’re new to training you should consult a professional so you do the lifts correctly and do not hurt yourself. Also, eating well is the corner stone of a great physique. Keep it real.

Often the topic of Weight Loose Supplements comes up when discussing how to loose weight and gain muscle. There are so many nutritional supplements on the market these days that it’s wise to exercise a bit of healthy skepticism.

Most of the pills you might consider getting are designed to speed up your metabolism using caffeine. It sure does! If you’ve taken these before, you’ll know what I mean! Just remember that there are other ways to stimulate your body to burn fat faster. Caffeine is not so good for your body so make sure you don’t use it too often to help you train. There are some benefits, like increased short term strength and energy, but in the long term it will ruin your body and nervous system. Try High Intensity Interval Training instead. It only takes 15 minutes to get your body going faster than any cup of coffee can!

Just remember that the most important thing is to eat a clean diet. This is something the fitness community is often talking about, and it’s a good way to start getting your body going in the right direction. It basically means that you should be eating nutrient dense fruit and vegetables.

Simply feed your body the elements it needs to repair itself from the workouts you’ve been doing. We all know that eating foods like fried chicken and take away fish and chips is not going to give you the quality vitamins and nutrients you need. So what foods should you eat to stay on a “clean diet”?

So what’s the most important part of a clean diet? Water!

Yeah, I know, water’s not a food. But it is essential for your body to remain clean and free of toxins. Your body will create many by products while you’re exercising and loosing weight and building muscle. Your body is also made up of about 80% water too… so you’d better make sure you’re getting enough.

The next most important things to eat are fresh vegetables and fruits. They’ll get your body’s metabolism moving faster and provide your body with the vital phyto-nutrients. Fruits and vegetables contain life, and by eating them you will become more lively. It just makes sense. Your mother was right, so eat your vegetables!

Protein is the most important nutrient for your muscle to grow. Each time you train, you should be having a protein dense meal or shake to give your body all the protein it needs to get it repairing the muscles as fast as possible. The best places to get good quality protein are from whey (or soy) shakes, protein snack bars, and of course, when you’re having a main meal you should use meat like chicken or fish so you’ve got good natural protein sources. If I would suggest any one supplement to use, it’d be a quality whey protein powder so you can have a shake after each and every workout.

You should eat roughly 5-7 times a day, small meals with a bit of protein in each meal so you don’t have cravings. Protein has the ability to stave off sugar cravings so if you get a bit of a sweet tooth, grab another shake (with water), or a protein nutrition bar. Also, a handful of raw nuts is a great substitute.

There are numerous different reasons that people get interested in martial arts. One of the motives is for the fitness aspect of Martial arts training. Enhanced endurance, strength, coordination and flexibility are a few things that Martial arts schools helps to advance. Martial arts also helps reduce stress levels. Tae Kwon Do, Brazilian Ju Jitsu and Capoira are a only some types of martial arts that provide you great overall fitness benefits.

one more reason that several people are fascinated in Martial Arts training is for self defense. Women’s self defense or law enforcement has specialized particular classes that deal rigorously with as self defense. A lot of martial arts schools also present self defense as part of their programs.

When choosing a martial arts schools, you want to figure out what type of technique of martial arts you want to focus on. A few of the styles are stand up, weapons based, low impact and combating. The stand up style concentrates on kicking, punching and blocking. During one of these classes you would study foot work and stance positions. A weapons based course would focus more on the exercise of certain types of weaponry. Low impact martial arts can also be called Meditative. This style deals more with breathing techniques, force, stress relief and exercise.

A several tips to finding a martial arts school that is perfect for you would be to first find one that teaches the type of martial arts training you are attracted in. You can come across in the phone book or request friends. Then you want to set out to check out a group. Watching a class will allow you great insight into the atmosphere and what is expected.

The next thing you want to do is call the schools that you are fascinated in and schedule a free or reduced rate session. Most schools will be more than happy to do this for you.

After you take your first class from several schools, you should know which martial arts training that you are fascinated with. Before you signing up for any group, make sure and inquire if there are any amount that must be paid, such as association fees or organizational fees. You also should to ask about the clothing code. Will you be obligated to purchase a uniform, particular shoes or gloves. All of this adds to the charge of the group.

by Dave Vower

Building Muscle Tips - COMPREHENSIVE EXERCISES FTW!

So what sort of exercises should we do anyway? You wanna learn to run fast? You gonna do some bench and call it a day? Nope I didn’t think so. Hey, bench is a great exercises, but it’s not the right one for this goal. We’re here to find out what’s the best way to get your muscles big, and fast!

We’ve got to think about this. What are the best exercises to do if you want to gain muscle and put on some solid weight? Exercises that work out MORE than 1 muscle is better. The reason why is because we want to economize.

We’ve got about a 1 hour window (probably more like 45 minutes) where we can warm up, workout and warm down before our body starts turning from a muscle building machine, into a muscle BURNING machine. We don’t want to burn out muscles. So we want to get as much muscle work done within this time as possible. And the secret is the Comprehensive Exercise.

The Comprehensive Exercise List

Building Muscle Tips #1. These are the only exercises you should do to to work out the most muscles in shortest amount of time. If you do these exercises, instead of the small exercises, you’ll gain loads of muscle in very little time.

# Full Standing Squats

# Flat Bench

# Deadlifts

# Military Press

# Bent Rows

# Wide Grip Chin Ups (Bit Hard? Do Heavy Lat Pull Downs until you’re stronger)

# Full Body Dips (if you can’t do dips do Decline Dumbell Bench Press with your hands facing each other)

These last two exercises are optional because the other exercises are so comprehensive that you’ve already worked out your entire body! Do them if you’ve still got time and energy during your workouts.

Do at least 3 workouts each week, and make sure you do squats during every workout. They’re the foundation of your body and they’re the largest muscles too. Working them out hard will stimulate your body to produce testosterone more efficiently.

On that note: WORK HARD. These exercises are POWERFUL. So don’t mess with them. Do the exercises and do them with intensity. Lift between 5-7 reps, and do 3 sets each. Lift as much as you can and get someone to spot for you if you’re not confident to start. But make sure you do the work yourself. No slacking!

The secret to making massive muscle gains in short amounts of time is to stress your body with INTENSE PHYSICAL RESISTANCE TRAINING. Use the same weight throughout the sets. i.e. if you start bench with 50kg, use 50kg the whole workout for bench. Change it up next workout by about 2.5% Keep good form and you’ll get great results. Never lift more than you can do 3 sets.

There is much written about tai chi chuan and its positive impact on increasing a person’s health, but some still remain marginally skeptical as to the benefits that this old (several thousand years old to be exact) Chinese system of martial arts has to offer in terms of the health benefits associated with it.

There is nothing wrong being skeptical about this martial arts.

It is our intent that this article help clears any misconception about the Chinese martial arts.

Now, in order to understand the positives that tai chi has to offer one must examine the relationship between the art and its emphasis on increased oxygen capacity.

While doing the Tai Chi, the main focus is on the control of breathing.

Tai Chi combine the arm movement and breathing to maximise the intake of air.

Many people do not realise the benefit of deep breathing.

Are you aware that oxygen has a part to play in weight loss? While you cannot loose weight just by doing Tai Chi, this exercise can certainly help you in the burning of calorie.

And by expanding the amount of oxygen intake, the ability for the lungs to expand their cardiovascular conditioning will greatly increase.

It is the same as doing sprinting to improve the cardio.

There is a huge difference as tai chi is a much lower impact exercise than sprinting and it will not increase lung capacity in the manner that sprinting will, but it does provide a method of exercise for those who may not be able to sprint due to age, weight, conditioning, etc.

In short, tai chi has a multitude of benefits and if one opts to explore them the positive results will slowly reveal themselves.

Although ninja training involves the use of several different weapons, no weapon is as uniquely ninja as the throwing star, or shuriken. In movies, ninjas are shown throwing stars with increadible accuracy, but a beginner would be doing well to hit the side of a van parked twenty feet away.

As is the case with any type of ninja training, practice is the key to gaining skill with throwing stars. It is important to set up a safe area to practice that includes a large, sturdy target with plenty of room and without any people, pets, or property that could be damaged within range of the thrown star or a bounce-back from the target. Pine boards attached to a sheet of plywood will make a good target, and I suggest a minimum size of at least four feet square in order reduce the chances of losing stars to off-target throws. When you are just beginning to learn to throw stars, the larger the target is, the better. You can of course create a smaller target on the large one to work on your aim as you improve.

Most movies depict ninjas throwing stars side-arm like a pointy frisbee, with the star held parallel to the ground. While they can certainly be thrown this way, throwing a star side-arm with accuracy is extremely difficult. If you are intent upon learning to throw stars side-arm, make sure to allow lots and lots of room around your target, and be prepared to do a lot of searching for the stars that will likely be flying off in all directions.

To develop throwing accuracy relatively fast, and to get the most efficient use of your ninja training time, I recommend that beginners work on learning to throw stars overhand, similar to the technique used for throwing knives.

If you do go with the overhand technique, I suggest setting up your target with pine boards aligned so that the grain of the wood is perpendicular to the ground. This will make it easier for the stars to stick in the target rather than bounce off.

When starting to throw your stars, I suggest standing approximately twenty feet from the target. This will be relatively close to allow you to hit the target consistently and gain confidence, but it is still far enough away that ricochets are not likely to do any serious harm if you get hit. Eye protection is a good idea just in case.

In order to develop accuracy in a short amount of time, it is important to learn to focus on your target. With the eye on the side of your throwing arm, look straight ahead at the target and keep your eye focused intently on the target at all times.

While gripping the star loosely between your thumb and first finger, bring your arm straight out in front of you until the star is lined up between your eye and the target. Next, raise your hand above your head by bending your elbow. Refocus your vision on the target and then quickly throw the star by straightening your elbow and letting the star go at the moment it enters your line of sight to the target. As with any form of ninja training, once you learn the basic technique, with practice comes skill.

As you get better with throwing stars, you can use smaller targets, or you can try throwing from a longer distance. If you choose to try longer distance throws, it is important to maintain good form and not force the throws to go further, as this will greatly decrease your ability to hit the target.

With repeated practice, you will improve considerably in your throwing star skills. I think you will find throwing stars to be one of the most fun parts of your ninja training.

When choosing a quality, women’s self-defense program, first and foremost, you must ask for and thoroughly check out the instructor’s credentials. This is true regardless of whether you’re…

* a woman who wants to be able to protect herself, or…

* A Parent looking for a self-defense program for your child

This point cannot be emphasized enough, because, like practically nothing else in your life…

… your life could depend on your making the right choice.

The unfortunate truth is that the world is full of people who have just enough knowledge, ability, and judgment, to get by. We all seen it. In fact, you probably know and maybe even work with one or two every day!

This is not to say that a black belt, martial arts teacher cannot protect him or herself with the skills they’ve learned. But, which person would you trust your life to if given the choice…

… someone who has probably learned and practiced their skills to be used in a sport competition in order to earn a belt, trophy, or…

… a person who has a background and actual experience with having to deal with real attacks from real aggressors and had to insure that what they were learning would allow them to survive?

I think we both know the answer to that question.

Some Other Considerations for a Good Self-Defense Program for Women and Teen Girls

The following is a partial list of some of the other major differences between self defense for women and men.

* Social Beliefs - from childhood, most girls have been taught that fighting was not “lady-like.”

Oh no! What would people say?!

* Situational Attack-Defense - two of the most obvious differences for women that men generally don’t have to worry about are rape and sexual assault.

The fact that men are usually dealing with the more obvious situations (muggings and competitive (”oh-yeah! let’s go!”-type fighting come to mind). While women, and more and more young girls, are required to deal with subtle tactics like date-rape or being ambushed by a group.

This is complicated with the addition of the strength and size difference between men and women that I talk about. This difference creates and significantly different situation for women, which of course calls for very different defense tactics.

* Misleading or False Information - The majority of people teaching women’s self-defense mean well. I believe they are honest and not out to purposely lie to you. I believe it’s just that…

… these people lack the fundamental, real-world experience to go on - they don’t know any better - and end up in a blind-leading-the-blind kind of situation.

… they end up making assumptions that, to them, seem logical and right within their own limited perspective and knowledge.

The contradiction is that we’re talking about defensive situations here…

… self-defense for women and teen girls…

… strategies for women. As opposed to…

… alphabet soup. Where, if you screw up, you can just empty the pot and start again.

Coming at women’s self-defense with the wrong skills, or not being prepared for the realities you’ll have to deal with, could be the worst - last - mistake you ever make.
