I’m a SF Local. Been here since ’97. Moved up for art school and stayed. I should know the good shops. They all have their quirks, but each shop on this list has something valuable to offer a photographer in its own way. I’m not going into detail but I’ve provided websites and Yelp reviews to help you figure it out. Now aren’t you happy? I just weeded out the crap and gave you a solid list to work with. I didn’t wan’t to make a best photography stores in San Francisco, or a top 10, but rather a list of solid resources that will allow you to find some good places to shop in the city.

The BoomCase by Mr. Simo | DijitalFix

I saw the Boomcase for the first time the other day while walking down Valencia Street in San Francisco. It was in the window of a new Design+Electronics shop called dijitalfix. I hade to do a double take and I know you would have to if you were with me. The first thing I thought was “if I was a B-Boy, a DJ, a musician or entertainer of audio stimulation, I would live in my car for 2 months just to get my hands on one!” Vintage suitcases fitted with high quality speakers. What a concept. Not only are they way far out and cool looking, but they are functional, and obviously made really well. I posted a few pics and a link to BomCase online. Their website has a huge gallery of one-of-a-kind BoomCases that will keep your jaw on dropped status for awhile. Shouts to the BoomCase company for raising the bar on this one. And good luck to the new store dijitalfix in SF. Great store!

10 Ways to Become an Excellent Driver

Is it me? or is getting a driver’s license way to easy? It seems inevitable that every time I get into my vehicle and drive down the road, there will be many other drivers behaving badly. Who’s fault is it? If only the DMV made testing more intensive for prospective drivers. I have been a licensed driver for 18 years and consider myself to be an excellent driver ‘most of the time’. I say ‘most of the time’ because I believe that it is impossible to be an excellent driver all the time. Don’t get me wrong, we all have excellent driving moments. A person can be an excellent driver today, but a horrible driver tomorrow. Then back to being excellent the day after that. Below is a list that I made for you to follow that can help you become an excellent driver more often.

1. Plan your trip (Knowing exactly where you are going prevents indecisiveness)

2. Wear your seat belt and adjust seat and mirrors appropriately (No brainer)

3. Never drive impaired (No brainer)

4. Be decisive (Build confidence on the road, learn to trust your vehicle)

5. Drive defensively (Prevent an accident, don’t create one)

6. Know what’s going on around you (Scan ahead for potential issues)

7. Anticipate

8. Keep a safe distance between you and other vehicles (2 to 8 seconds depending on weather)

9. Always make complete stops (Gives you time to see oncoming traffic and avoid an intersection accident)

10. Communicate with other drivers (Turn signals etc)

12. Maintain your vehicle (Keep it clean and running well)

13. Learn how to park properly

Low Life: A photo series by photographer Trevor Traynor

I recently discovered the work of photographer Trevor Traynor on the website Feature Shoot. Feature Shoot posted a group of images from his series entitled “Low Life”. Being a fan of lowriders my entire life I was immediately drawn to the pictures. In my opinion Trevors approach to these classic cars is that of a portraitist. He brings the camera down to the cars eye level so you can truly appreciate and respect their unique shape and design. End Piracy, Not Liberty Vote No on SOPA and PIPA

Millions of Americans oppose SOPA and PIPA because these bills would censor the Internet and slow economic growth in the U.S.

Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.
