Review:

There are many Nicholas Sparks’ novels that have been adapted to film, but only two deserve a credit, Message in A Bottle and The Notebook.

Watching movies and reading novels are a very different experiences. In a novel, our imaginations are set free, we can interpret the author’s writing in any way that we love. And when the director of a movie can’t interpret the movie the way we thought, the result is a wreck. Hence, Dear John following the footsteps of A Walk to Remember and Nights in Rodanthe as a failure to adept Sparks’ works.

The plot began when a soldier named John met a college girl named Amanda in his leave from duty. Apparently it only take a few moments for both of them to fall in love with each other. Unfortunately, John only two weeks in the town and have to get back to serve.

They have to split up for a year before John will be back for good. While being apart, they keeping contact with each other by writing letter. Trouble comes when 9/11 event takes place, John and his team choose to re-enlist for another two years. Can the couple that only been together for two weeks keep their feeling for another two years only by reading a handwriting note sent by each other?

In the first part of the movie, where John and Amanda spent their two weeks together, it was actually kinda sweet and romantic. We can see their connection and chemistry, and all of those first love experiences. Although, Channing Tatum was a little bit rigid in playing John’s character.

Now, the core part of the movie poses the bigger problem. The lovers were apart by distances, and keep in touch by sending a letter to each other. The letters should be meaningful and can shed the tears of the audiences. Instead, they were nothing, basically what they wrote in those letters were just “How are you?” and “I miss you”. No stories about how they holding on, or what they’re doing in all those times apart.

Well, if their letters only like that, no wonder their relationship won’t last, and that’s exactly what happened. In this point of the movie, the story completely focused on John. Again, being the one who dumped, there were no telling on how John managed to live without Amanda. The plot just keep jumping to the future, until John finally has to come back to his town.

The ending, although not a complete disappointment, has passed the climax, and rather flat (well, it was assumed that you can keep your eyes open to see the ending ).

One thing that can I can kept remembering from this movie, is what John and Amanda used to say when they were gonna parted, “I’ll see you soon, then….”

What’s the resemblance of the recent Prince of Persia movie and Aladdin animation from 15 years ago? They’re both using Middle East as their background, in Persian to be precise. Persian cultures are famous from the 1001 nights tale, and what I remember most about it, is the flying magic carpet.

Okay, that was a myth, but you can also give a magical touch to your home or office decoration by putting beautiful Persian Rugs as a part of interior design. For office, placing a suitable rug can get you an exclusive and elegant look for your work environment, especially for welcoming client. While for home, it can give a clean and warm feeling for family or for your guest.

Many people are feeling hesitate for buying a rug for their room, because they thought beautiful Persian or Oriental rugs are very expensive. But that’s not a problem anymore. Nowadays, quality doesn’t have to come with high price. You can get Cheap Rugs with affordable price and great texture and quality, if you just know the exact place for buying it.

In www.superiorrugs.com you can get exclusive rugs, such as hand knotted rugs or 100% silk and traditional wool rugs, all with a very reasonable pricing. If that still not satisfying for you, you can also check the clearance Area Rugs, where there are another up to 80% discount to what-already-cheap price.

What make them best, Superior Rugs is not just a merely online store, but they’re also manufacturing the rugs by themselves and sell it directly to customer.
Review:

Although it is not a 90 minutes boring movie, Salt is not as good as its teaser. Both the directing and acting are standard, the character of evelyn salt which is played by Angelina Jolie is not really strong, neither the whole story of the movie plus some ridiculous situation in the movie make it just a common “action movie”. Over the critics, I enjoy the movie enough if I don’t really think about its irrational situations and characters in the movie, so for you who really care about the detail of the movie plot, you can find the other action movies but if you fine with that “issues” which I mentioned above, Salt would be entertaining enough for you.

Review:

For those who not old enough and missed the original The A-Team on television a few decades ago, this TV series plot was about a group of mercenaries consist of four men with different characters. In order to completing a mission or task, they like to plan everything carefully, and then executed it with no mistake at all, thus they don’t need a “plan B”. Most of the time their plans seem reckless or impossible, but that what made it interesting.

Now for the movie, the story started on how the group gathered. Started with Hannibal who tried to save Face, where he got help from fellow Ranger, B.A Baracus, in the middle of the way. The trio then tried to escaped from Mexican corrupt officers by the help of a mad pilot, Murdock, who fly them out from Mexican border with hospital’s chopper. This was how The A-Team assembled, and also, how B.A got his fear of flying.

The story then jump to eight years later in Iraq, where after completed a lot of missions The A-Team become a highly respected special task unit in the military force. The command believe them in difficult and discreet missions, sometimes even for black covert ops.

I’m not gonna tell detail about the story, so, in short, they were framed of doing an illegal operation, where the general who sent them into the mission was murdered so no one will back-up their story. They then being court-martialed and verdict for ten years in jail. Having no more faith to the system, they planned their great escape and tried to find for themselves the man behind their set-up.

Like the original The A-Team series, the planning and execution part are the most interesting part of this movie. Fast pace, impossible stunt, intense action, and explosion everywhere, make this movie very entertaining to watch and successfully reboot the TV series.

Although, entertainment is the only thing that you will get. Don’t ever expected to get character and story development, or even some logic from the action scene. But, that doesn’t matter at all, because The A-Team was never about all those things. Mess, noisy, and fun action, are the most important aspects for you who looking for pure entertainment. So, enjoy as it is…

Do you know that many movies used snowy season and environment as their background, but only few of them using skiing as their main action? Usually movies about ski are in the comedy genre, such as Ski Party (1965), Ski Patrol (1990), Ski School (1991), Out Cold (2001), Winter Break (2002), and Frostbite (2005).

The only movies that I know often using ski as an action sequences are James Bond (007) franchises, although not as a main theme, like we saw in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) that filled with dashing skiing scenes.

Maybe this was due to the fact that skiing, if not dangerous, is a hard sport to master.

Some of the movies that featured ski in it

Ski, refers to long, flat device worn on the feet designed to help the wearer slide smoothly over snow. To skiing, people use two ski boards that need to be attached to ski boots in both legs using a binding mechanism. Originally intended as an aid to travel in snowy regions, they are now mainly used for recreational and sporting purposes.

Although included as an extreme sport, with proper equipment, skiing risks can greatly reduced. Nowadays, the injury rates per 1000 visits to the slopes only range from 3 to 10 (0.3% – 1%). Knee injuries and broken bones are the most common injuries. That’s why the best equipment need to be wore, including helmet, goggle, boots, and binding.

Speaking of bindings, one of the best brands in market is Marker bindings. This company was founded in 1952 by skiing pioneer and innovator, Hannes Marker. They managed to introduced the first commercially successful releasable ski binding.

Marker Jester Schizo 16 Ski Bindings, available at www.evogear.com

If you want to know more about this brand, I suggest you to check this video about Marker binding review. While if you’re interesting to buy their products, there is no best place to check it other than EvoGear.com. This is a respectable and trustworthy online store that provides every equipment you need for skateboarding, snowboarding, skiing and wakeboarding.

But slowly, she chips away at his seemingly impenetrable exterior, his defenses drop, and he opens up to her.

Creasy’s new-found purpose in life is shattered when Pita is kidnapped. Despite being mortally wounded during the kidnapping, he vows to kill anyone involved in or profiting from the kidnapping. And no one can stop him.

Review:

This movie was the first collaboration of director Tony Scott with Denzel Washington. After this one, they were working together again in DejaVu (2006) and The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009).

Watching this movie was like watching two different films. At the first half you’ll see how John Creasy tried to fit in his new environment. He was hired as a bodyguard by Ramos family to take care of their little daughter. Being a former assassin who fallen to alcohol, Creasy found a hard time to adept to a “family” concept, especially to little Lisa that desperately tried to get Creasy attention -and love.

Time after time, friendship grew between Creasy and Lisa, but it won’t last long. Later, come a part of this movie that gives a big shock, in front of Creasy’s eyes Lisa got kidnapped after a gunfighting. While Creasy was in hospital recover his wound, the negotiation gone mess, and Lisa was reported killed by her kidnapper.

Heard the sad news, Creasy gone berserk, vow to kill every single one who involved in the kidnapping. He took revenge by slaughtering the bad guys one by one, only to found that closer he is to the truth, there will be some ugly disclosure behind Lisa’s abduction.

This second part of the movie is fill with well-built action sequence, and more importantly, lots of blood and gore. You’ll see Creasy cut the fingers of a gangster, stuck a bomb into somebody’s ass (literally ), or throw a missile to a corrupt police officers.

This much of violence made this movie receive a negative reviews by the critics. While for myself, it’s still acceptable. Despite there is a little girl on their cast, this movie was never meant for children. Although cliche, there were still some moral lessons we can get from this movie. Man of Fire also one of the best performance character played by Denzel Washington, that we rarely seen from his last few movies.

Review:

When I get bored with Hollywood movies, I always turn my eyes to French or Hong Kong movies, because they usually give fresh ideas, both in plot and action sequences. And what’s the best French cinema to watch other than Luc Besson’s (Leon, Taxi, The Fifth Element, Transporter) one? Although he was not the one who directed B-13, he was the producer and writer.

B-13 Ultimatum is the sequel of Banlieue 13 (2004). Although I haven’t see the first movie, I know that it was well received around critics and audiences.

The plot began when special agent Damien Tomasso was framed for drug possession that wasn’t even belong to him. Knew that something bigger is happening and he was jailed so he can’t involved in it, he asked help from his vigilante friend, Leito, to released him from jail.

The pair then found out that some bigger conspiracy to destroy District 13 was initiated by industrial corporate, and the president who doesn’t realize it, plan to evacuate and nuke D-13 because chaos is started to happening there.

With the help of native clans of D-13 that usually fought each others, Damien and Leito set a plan to storm the presidential palace with bare hand to notify the president and save him from surrounding corrupt administrators.

Like the original movie, this sequel also presenting Parkour, martial art that focused on how to move between one spot to another with great speed and agility. This technique also very useful in hand-to-hand combat. Leito cast, David Belle, is the founder of this Parkour art.

B-13, fill with great stunt sequences that were completed without the use of wires or computer generated effects. The scene where Leito jump from building to building using his Parkour when he was chased by the police is very energizing, and he made it look so easy that I want to try it by myself.

The final action scene, when 30 unarmed men raid the heavily guarded presidential palace, and attacked without killing anyone, is also very eye-catching.

This movie is only 96 minutes length and has very fast pace, you won’t get bored even for just a sec. It’s a very fresh getaway from CGI and digitalized actions that dominated the market nowadays.
Review:

Nothing new with the idea of a 5-points guy who tries to get the perfect-10 girl, like we already saw in Nothing Hill or I Love You Beth Cooper. But She’s Out of My League has its own natural touch.

The story began when Kirk, who worked at the airport security helped a gorgeous plane passenger, Molly. When Molly’s cellphone left at the airport, she asked Kirk to delivered it to her in a party. This meeting continues and they started to felt for each other. All friends and families from both sides couldn’t believe that they were together, because Molly is why out of Kirk’s league.

At first they seem didn’t care, but deep in their heart they were feeling that something is wrong. Not because people said so, or because Molly think Kirk doesn’t deserved her, but merely because Kirk has a very big self-esteem issue. He’s ugly, uncoordinated, not a college graduate, and his paycheck is way below Molly’s.

Nonetheless, Molly at first dated him because she’s looking for a safety and a guy that won’t hurt her. When time goes, she gradually in love with him because he’s caring, funny, warm, and honest.

What I said above why this movie is natural, because usually in this kind of theme the guy character is so nerd, weird, and absurd that you might think that this kind of person can’t possible exist in real word. Even if they do exist, who will want to be with this kind of guy? But then suddenly in the end part of the film, the character shows all of his good side and the girl finally realized it and wanna be with him.

Thankfully this cliche doesn’t occurred in She’s Out of My League. While Kirk character is a pure looser, it’s still real, and his good sides were balanced with his bad sides. Molly trully felt in love with Kirk despite for who or what he is, and the chemistry between those two are well built.

The movie also quite funny and has its own joke’s style and smart dialogues. It also surprisingly not try to sold slapstick scenes and sexual approachment as its main joke, there were only small amounts of them with the right proportion.

What lack in this film is the conflicts between the pair. Their love story pretty much smooth until Kirk suddenly realized how he can’t be with Molly in the later minutes of the movie. Their ending scene, though sweet (whoops…spoiler ), also not giving much surprise, if you ever expecting one.
