Hello nak muay and happy friday. Today coach Damon of Sindayt Muay Thai London takes us through a teep fake. This is probably one of my favorite techniques. This works particularly well if your a person who like to teep. This isn’t all that effective if you only throw 2-3 teeps a round. It’s all about dividing your opponents attention. You pepper them with sharp teeps so they are expecting them, then in you fake.

If you look at the cover image of this post you’ll notice how high Damon’s knee is. The point being it has to be a convincing fake, a lazy half ass attempt isn’t going to fool anyone.

Have fun.

Hello Nak Muay, today we continue where we left off from last week with Tony Myers Muay Thai Judging and scoring seminar.

Last week we covered “techniques landed with effect”. When you throw your technique it disturbs your opponent physically (it off balances them) or psychologically (they show fear or pain)

This week the video starts off with Tony talking about landing and finishing techniques on balance. I started the video a little late, but the gist of it is that he had done a study of British fighters and Thai fighters, and their balance before and after landing a technique.

He found overwhelming that Thai nak muay were much better at staying balanced after landing a technique.

So what does this mean for you? It means judges are looking specifically at how you finish a technique. It’s nice that landing solid kicks, that are moving them… but how do you land once that technique is delivered? Does your weight shift? Do you stagger? Do you land exactly in the same spot before delivery? It all adds up in the end.

In addition to balance on and after delivery, Judges will be looking at demonstrations of strength and dominance… some examples are:

Not being able to be pulled down when your leg is caught

Having your head pulled down in the clinch

Can’t maintain position

Once again if you gym or camp is producing fighters, it’s invaluable that your trainer is making you aware of these points. Who takes a drivers test without first learning what your grader is looking for?

I strongly suggest you get in touch with Tony, and book one of his assessment seminars, you won’t be disappointed.

Sawatdee, and happy Friday! Today Coach Damon Faulkner of Singdayt Muay Thai London, will walk us through an off balancing technique; the heel hook. It’s incredibly effective especially if you use a follow up technique.

This technique is particularly effective against boxers and agressive punchers. If you watch carefully this isn’t a low inside leg kick… you are taking your foot and hooking their heel. It’s definitely requires fee-muh (technique) and timeing to pull this off. Explains why I’ve got about a 5% success rate with it.

Team Singdayt will be running around Liverpool tonight and tomorrow. If you see Coach Damon or Coach Martin, give them some love. Best of luck to Adrian Crookendale and Dan Bombusa who’ll be representing Singdayt Muay Thai Sat night.

I’ve been to a handful of seminars at CSA and they always prove to be interesting. I’m not sure if I’ll make it to this one but I’d love to hear from someone who ends up going. Perhaps someone could get me a signed pair of his pants?

Here was the surprise of the month, two legends back in the ring. Samart is pushing 50 and still looks <del>good</del> great. For those of you new to muay thai Samart Payakaroon was technical Superstar in the early 80′s. He was know for his technical prowess, grace and his KO power. In 1982 he turned his attention to professional boxing and became the WBC junior featherweight champ in 1986. Check out his hl reel.

Some of Samart’s titles include:

105 lb Champion of Lumpinee Stadium in 1980

108 lb Champion of Lumpinee Stadium in 1980

115 lb Champion of Lumpinee Stadium in 1981

126 lb Champion of Lumpinee Stadium in 1981

126 lb WBC junior featherweight

Jaroenthong Kiatbanchong is also widely regarded as one of the best fighters during muay thai’s golden period. I’m not sure how many times these two had met, but I think this is bout is when Samart’s Muay Thai career was winding down, and he was transitioning into boxing.

Some of Jaroenthong’s achievments.

115 lb Champion of Lumpinee Stadium

Muaythai Champion FeatherWeight 126 pound

Muaythai World Champion LightWeight 135 pound

Great news for European fight fans, Slamm is back! This is the event I look forward to each year, the Slamm team knows how to put together a great show and promote it. I’ve always been a fan of the Holland vs. Thailand shows as they take some best Thai talent and let them fight under full Thai rules.

I’ve cleared my schedule and booked my tickets. This year’s line up is exceptional… two of my favorite fighters are on the card. Pornsaneh and Saiyok will be there to bring the pain. This will be Pornsaneh Sitmonchai’s first international fight, against a very technical Ilias el Hajoui. I was told that they’re going to be about 20 fights… there are still some well known British fighters who may be added to the card.

If anyone from the US or UK are thinking about going, don’t worry about trying to order tix online… they are going to leave enough tix at the door for international fight fans.

Mootje Khamal (Vos Gym/Real Fighters)
Miles Simon (Vos Gym/Real Fighters)
Pornsane Sitmonchai
Ilias el Hajoui (Team Gunyar)
Bovy Sor Udomsorn
Anthony Kane (Team Slamm!!)
William Diender (Bora Gym)
Nonsai Sor Sanyakorn
Giga Chikadze (Georgie)
Saiyok Pumphangmuang
Nieky Holzken (Golden Glory Helmond)
Faldir Chabari (Team Beast of the East)

who’s down?
