Peter Mulvey began as a self-described “city kid” from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He played, wrote, and sang in bands while studying theatre at Marquette University. After graduating, he traveled to Ireland, where he learned the trade of busker on the streets of Dublin. Returning to the U.S. a few years later, he settled in Boston, building an audience through street and subway performing, while also immersing himself in the thriving musical community.

Since his 2000 release The Trouble with Poets, Mulvey has found a home with the venerable indie label Signature Sounds Recordings. His most recent albums for the Massachusetts label were the 2006 release The Knuckleball Suite, the 2004 release Kitchen Radio, the 2003 collaborative Redbird album (with label-mates Kris Delmhorst and Jeffrey Foucault), and his 2001 CD, Ten Thousand Mornings, an album of cover songs recorded entirely in the subways of Boston. MOJO described the album as “simultaneously Mulvey’s homage to his one-time training ground and a beautifully atmospheric record of gifted interpretations.”

Clive Barnes has been keeping himself busy in 2008, most recently completing an eight-date national tour with Australia’s Jeff Lang.

As familiar on the world stage as he is on the Irish circuit, Clive Barnes has steadily built a worldwide reputation as one of the finest lap slide and regular acoustic guitarists and songwriters on the go today.

Having recently recorded with Eric Bibb and Grammy winner Bonnie Raitt as well as having toured with likes of Joe Ely, The Blind Boys Of Alabama, Taj Mahal and Joe Cocker, you could be forgiven for thinking this Irish virtuoso has roots planted firmly in the Deep South, such is the raw talent and power of Barnes’ well-honed sound.

With four albums under his belt in the last decade and described as a “a guitarist of rare quality” the Wexford man continues to wow audiences across the country, teaming up with Peter Mulvey for one special performance to wrap up the tour.

Due to head back into the studio this November to record his fourth studio album, Barnes last teamed up with Peter Mulvey in early 2007 for their ‘Tour Of Two Continents’, embracing a two week long tour of the US and Ireland.

The 2008 Irish Tour kicks off on October 7th with an appearance at the Ruby Sessions at Doyles in Dublin. This is followed in quick succession by The Crane Bar, Galway (October 8th), McCarthy’s Bar, Dingle (October 9th), The Pavilion, Cork (October 10th), finishing up in the upstairs venue in Whelans, Dublin (October 11th).

Following performances in Cork, Wexford, Kilkenny, Lismore (Jeff solo), Limerick, Ballymore Eustace, Sligo and last night in Galway, you’ve got one final chance to catch these two fantastic acts sharing the same stage.

Following the performance in Dublin tonight, Jeff and bassist Grant Cummerford depart for England to commence an 11-date UK tour starting at the Bridge Inn, Topsham (Exeter) tomorrow night before concluding on August 6th at The Half Moon Inn, London (via MySpace).

Before all that however, you can see Jeff and Clive Barnes in action at The Cherrytree in Dublin. The MyMusic team managed to squeeze in some of the tour, including a great performance in the intimate surrounds of Barry’s in Grange on Tuesday night. Never the same setlist, always the same incredible talent emanating from Lang, Cummerford and Barnes.

The MyMusic team were on hand at the Kilkenny date on Friday last with the packed house in Cleere’s Theatre left reeling from performances by Lang (with Grant Cumerford) and Barnes, the night concluding with all three artists taking to the stage.

With four fantastic nights alright down we reach the half-way point in the tour, tonight’s stop being Mick Murphy’s in Ballymore Eustace before moving on to Barry’s in Grange, Co. Sligo (Tuesday), The Crane bar in Galway (Wednesday) and finally The Cherrytree in Dublin on Thursday.
