It's often thought that to lose weight, you need to incorporate a cardio program rather than a weight training system. Weights are often associated with building muscles and looking beefy. This is a false perception that can hurt your ability to burn fat in the most effective manner. While losing weight for the long term will require an improved diet and balanced exercise program, weight lifting will improve your weight loss potential and create a leaner physical appearance.

Basic Effects of Weight Lifting on the Body
Each movement that the body makes requires energy. In the absence of food to burn, your body attacks the fat cells for energy. Your body will reduce fat cells when it converts the fat inside of cells and converts it into energy.
This is a scenario that is occurring in the body 24 hours a day. While certain periods of the day have fewer energy requirements, such as sleeping, energy is still required. The major factor in play while this is occurring is where this energy fuel is derived from. It can be food or it can be fat cells. Weight lifting provides a need for extensive energy to be utilized even while you are at rest, which creates a greater impetus for the body to burn fat cells.

Increase Metabolism
One of the major impacts that weight lifting has on the body is that it will boost your body's metabolic rate. This is great for weight loss in both the long term and short term. During the hours immediately after a strength building program, your body experiences an increased metabolic rate. A consistent weight training program allows your body to increase and maintain a higher amount of lean muscle, which creates a more permanent metabolism boost.
While cardio also improves metabolism, it is only in the short term for about two to three hours following the workout. This subtracts from the much higher calorie burning scenario that takes place from a strength training session. One negative side effect of too much cardio activity is that you can actually lower your lean muscle mass which can reduce metabolism over a longer period of time. This can become counterproductive to losing weight.

Body Composition
Another large beneficial impact of weight training is that it will change your body composition. Cardio can be a beneficial factor for weight loss, but weight lifting generates a loss in body fat. An example of this is that many people that exercise on a treadmill will lose some weight, but their body looks the same. The reason is that you have not altered the ratio of body fat to muscle mass. You just weigh less and appear to be smaller. Strength training can actually change your physical appearance. This is because you will be replacing body fat with increased muscle. This generates a more toned and lean body composition. Lifting weights provides you with a visual body change as opposed to just a scale change.

An einem großen US-amerikanischen Bildungsinstitut soll Apple bereits den Schülern nahegelegt haben, nur noch die 60-Tage-Testversion von Mobile- Me zu verwenden, um die Lücke zwischen dem Verschwinden der alten und dem Erscheinen der neuen Aufl age zu überbrücken. Im April könnte uns bereits eine kostenlose MobileMe-Version erwarten, die sich im Leistungsumfang von der aktuellen Version unterscheidet und sogar das Streaming von Musik, Fotos und Videos über iTunes in die Cloud und auf iOS-Geräte unterstützt. Die kostenpfl ichtige Mobile- Me-Variante soll allerdings noch ein Jahr parallel weiterlaufen, damit allen Käufern, die MobileMe erst unlängst erworben haben, die entsprechenden Service-Leistungen zugestanden werden können.

Apple hat bei einem Gericht in Nordkalifornien Klage gegen das Internet- Versandhaus Amazon eingereicht. Amazon hatte einen eigenen „Appstore“ (in dieser Schreibweise) für den Download von Anwendungen für Smartphones mit Googles Android-Betriebssystem eingerichtet. Apple will sich den Begriff „App Store“ allerdings schützen lassen und hat einen entprechenden Antrag auf ein eingetragenes Warenzeichen beim US-amerikanischen Patentamt gestellt. Gegen diesen Antrag wiederum wurde Beschwerde von Microsoft eingelegt, da der Begriff zu allgemein sei. Apples Einschreiten gegen Amazon scheint derweil schon erfolgreich gewesen zu sein. Kurz nach dem Start ging Amazons „App Store“ wieder offline.

In 10 der 33 größten Kinohits des vergangenen Jahres waren Apple-Produkte auf der Leinwand zu sehen. Das hat das Portal www.brandchannel.com herausgefunden. Die Unternehmen Nike, Chevrolet und Ford teilten sich 2010 den zweiten Platz in Sachen Product Placement. 2009 hatten Apples Produkte allerdings noch in 44 Prozent aller Top-Filme einen Auftritt. Dieser Rückgang liege auch daran, dass sich die Mitbewerber HP, Dell und Sony mittlerweile verstärkt um ihre eigene visuelle Präsenz auf den Leinwänden dieser Welt kümmern, so brandchannel. Speziell Sony Pictures als Produktionsstudio setzt in den eigenen Filmen natürlich mit Vorliebe Vaio-Notebooks in Szene. Im Rückblick auf das letzte Jahrzehnt sind Apple-Produkte in mehr Top-Filmen aufgetaucht als die Marken McDonald‘s und Nike zusammen. Dies ist umso erstaunlicher, als nur rund 15 Prozent aller US-Haushalte über einen Mac verfügen.

Weiterhin hat die Erhebung ergeben, dass zwei Monate nach dem Start des Mac App Store 2225 Anwendungen erhältlich waren, beim iPad waren es nach der gleichen Zeit 8099 Anwendungen. Im Mac App Store ist mit 12 Prozent nur ein relativ geringer Anteil aller Anwendungen kostenlos, Spiele machen 29 Prozent des Angebots aus. iPad-Apps haben von dem Hype um die iPad-Hardware und das iPhone profi tiert, der Start des Mac App Store verlief dagegen eher ruhig. Lite- Versionen sind hier eher unüblich und Mac-Anwendungen tendieren zu mehr Komplexität. Interessanter ist die Tatsache, dass immer mehr iOS-Apps für den Mac umgesetzt werden. Leider geschieht dies meist ohne Verbesserungen bei der Grafi k – ein iMac wird so zum 27-Zoll-iPad ohne Touchscreen.

Im „Buyer’s Guide“ von www.macrumors.com – einer Übersicht von Mac-Kaufempfehlungen – ist der aktuelle iMac mit einem roten „Nicht kaufen – Update kommt bald“-Schild gekennzeichnet. Eine Aktualisierung der Desktop-Macs ist zwar noch nicht überfällig, sollte aber bald erfolgen. Die kommenden iMacs werden mit an Sicherheit grenzender Wahrscheinlichkeit auf Multikern-Prozessoren mit Intels Sandy-Bridge-Architektur setzen. Auch die mit den aktuellen MacBook Pro eingeführten Thunderbolt-Ports sollten in den nächsten iMacs zu fi nden sein. Über die weitere technische Ausstattung der neuen Modelle kann nur spekuliert werden. Am spannendsten ist dabei die Frage, auf welche Grafi klösung Apple setzen wird. Die Auslieferung der kommenden iMac-Generation soll bereits in der ersten Mai-Woche erfolgen.

Nach mehreren Entwicklerversionen hat Apple nun Mac OS X 10.6.7 offi ziell für alle veröffentlicht. Es handelt sich um ein umfangreiches Update, dessen Downloadgröße je nach Hardware und bereits installierten Updates variiert. Geladen werden kann das Update über die Software-Aktualisierung. Mit der neuen Version soll unter anderem der „Zugang zu meinem Mac“- Dienst, der über das Internet eine Zugriffsmöglichkeit auf den heimischen Rechner bietet, verbessert worden sein. Außerdem wurden ein Problem beim Übertragen von Dateien auf bestimmte SMB-Server sowie der Zugang zum Mac App Store behoben. Alternativ zum Download über die Software-Aktualisierung steht auch ein kombiniertes Update zum Download unter support.apple.com/kb/DL1363 zur Verfügung. Über dieses 1.12 GB große Combo-Update lassen sich alle Versionen von Mac OS X 10.6 auf Version 10.6.7 aktualisieren.
