I got a surprise from Pisobid today though it should not be a surprise if only I religiously open my emails. The email was sent 2 months ago with the subject "Pisobid.com - FREE 24 bids for your purchase at Ensogo". This is in connection with the delivery delay of serials and pins of the bid packs I purchased from Ensogo.

Considering that the cost of 12 bids is P200, the 24 FREE bids worth P400 is really an interesting subject. I am not sure how did I missed it since this email was not filtered and it is still sitting in my inbox out of the hundreds of emails I received since that time. With the serial and pin on the email and crossed fingers since it's been 2 months, I tried them. It works! :)

The instruction was to ask for a refund from Ensogo but since I was not able to read it, I was not able to ask for a refund. Instead, I emailed and requested that the serials and pins should be delivered already because the vouchers are near to expiry. Luckily, Ensogo delivered after more than a month.

In summary, I got 24 FREE bids from Pisobid for the inconvenience and delay. I am still not sure if that's enough. What I am sure of is that the value of the free bids are more than what I paid for the 3 Pisobid Ensogo vouchers I bought, which I have also redeemed.

Ramnit Worm Compromises 45000 Facebook Accounts

Ramnit worm takes the cyberstage as recent reports claim that it has compromised 45,000 Facebook accounts.

Microsoft published an entry about Ramnit worm last May 10, 2011. According to Microsoft Malware Protection System (MMPS) Threat Research and Response, "Win32/Ramnit is a family of multi-component malware that infects Windows executable files, Microsoft Office files and HTML files. Win32/Ramnit spreads to removable drives, steals sensitive information such as saved FTP credentials and browser cookies. The malware may also open a backdoor to await instructions from a remote attacker."

It originally targeted financial accounts, and just a few days ago, reports came out that 45K Facebook accounts were compromised. Seculert, which has been tracking the worm, reported that Ramnit has mostly been focusing on users in the United Kingdom and France, but has been attacking accounts all over the world. Seculert believes the motive behind the stolen credentials may have magnified the malware’s spread by sending links to the friends of compromised accounts.

Trusteer, a provider of secure web access services, reported in August 2011 that Ramnit gained the ability to “bypass two-factor authentication and transaction signing systems, gain remote access to financial institutions, compromise online banking sessions and penetrate several corporate networks.”

Suculert's lab who discovered Ramnit's recent targeting of Facebook accounts with considerable success, stealing over 45,000 Facebook login credentials worldwide, suspected that the attackers behind Ramnit are using the stolen credentials to log-in to victims' Facebook accounts and to transmit malicious links to their friends, thereby magnifying the malware's spread even further. In addition, cybercriminals are taking advantage of the fact that users tend to use the same password in various web-based services (Facebook, Gmail, Corporate SSL VPN, Outlook Web Access, etc.) to gain remote access to corporate networks.

Numerous external links are shared on Facebook daily and it is said to be one of the causes of the widespread attack. Porn and gross images attract attention and sharing links to friends that lead to infected external websites can compromise the Facebook account.

For some internet users who are interested to read about the coding or configuration, McAfee has detailed report about Ramnit. Otherwise, if you are just a normal web user, just be sure to use different passwords for different online accounts such as social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc), emails, payment gateways (Paypal, Alertpay, Moneybookers). If a link is suspicious, do not click on it. Be wary with attachments even from friends. Your friend's account might already be compromised. Some infections such as the Ramnit worm are sometimes undetectable by antivirus software.

That Green Thing Back Then

This was copied from an FB friend's status. Since FB is kind of restricted and some readers might not be on my friends' list, I am reposting this on my blog instead. Quite long but worth reading, IMHO

Checking out at the grocery store recently, the young cashier suggested I should bring my own grocery bags because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. I apologized and explained, "We didn't have this green thing back in my earlier days."

The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations."

She was right about one thing -- our generation didn't have the green thing in “Our” day. So what did we have back then…? After some reflection and soul-searching on "Our" day here's what I remembered we did have....

Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles repeatedly. So they really were recycled.

But we didn't have the green thing back in our day. We walked up stairs, because we didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks. But she was right. We didn't have the green thing in our day.

Back then, we washed the baby's diapers because we didn't have the throw-away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts -- wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that young lady is right. We didn't have the green thing back in our day.

Back then, we had one TV, or radio, in the house -- not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, we blended and stirred by hand because we didn't have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.

Back then, we didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right.

We didn't have the green thing back then. We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But we didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus, and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn't have the green thing back then?

Please repost this so another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smart-ass young person can add to this....

Browsing on a secured connection, be sure also that your address bar uses https:// instead of http:// and that there is a padlock on the lower-right portion of your screen.

Some had attempted to use phone calls pretending to be a bank representative asking personal information. If you are not sure whom you are talking to, then don't divulge any information. Although Friendster and Facebook have become the talk of the town, and that almost everybody have created their own accounts, there are still many internet users who are unfamiliar with the word 'blog' or 'blogging'.

One definition of blog is "a personal online journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption". As more and more people used blog for other purposes, the world of blogging evolved. Now, blogs are not only used as personal online journal but also used for business and professional services, as well.

If you are reading this, and still unfamiliar with what blogging is all about, it will be a great help to know the other terms related to blogging. An example of a blog is this. This is my blog. It contains some of the adventures I encountered in my search on how to earn money online.

There are people who are more successful than I am in this quest but personally, I can say I have not failed. All I wanted at first was to find out if there is really money online and I have proven it. Only, it is not as easy as what others portray it to be. It's a long and continuous learning process especially if you'll be relying only on blogging for extra income.

Consumerism

According to Wikipedia, "Consumerism is a social and economic order that is based on the systematic creation and fostering of a desire to purchase goods and services in ever greater amounts."

Today's technology was brought about by consumerism, agree? The desire to improve one's life, how to easily deal with everyday's chores, how to manage the office effectively and efficiently, how to maximize the use of the resources available and more are all brought about by consumerism. Through the use of the different media available today, more desires are created. Buyers or consumers are enticed to buy more than what they really need.

But then again, the question will be: "How do you know or measure which one among these things does a person really need?" Some would answer, well, if he can live without it then he doesn't need it. Going to the extreme, there are many people who loiter the streets, without a home. They were able to live without home but does it mean they don't need it?

This is just random thoughts brought about by a text message reminding me that I bought a magic heat pack some months back. Though it was not then a necessity, I bought it.

Brought about by consumerism? Maybe. Maybe not. What do you think?

Bills Payment

As I've mentioned in my Domain Renewal post, billings arrived few days ago. Time to pay my domain name registration bills. As a blogger who wants to earn money online, you don't really need to buy a domain name. There are many free alternatives like Blogger, WordPress, Xanga, Multiply, and more. If you just started blogging and has not yet proven there's real money online just by writing, then why not use the free alternatives? No registration and annual fees on domain name registration and web hosting fees to worry about. In short, no bills payment to think of.

Do I earn that much? Well, not much, too. That's because I have my own lazy periods. :) If you checked my archives, there are periods I had not posted for months. But I do earn a few dollars even during my lazy period and that's what makes blogging enjoyable. Well, for those months I have not posted anything, for sure, I am busy with something else offline. Not really lazy, though.

Anyway, since bills payment has been sent, I need to start working to recoup what I spent. Another week more and Google Adsense will be sending in payments. :)

NetworkedBlogs

If you are blogger and you are using Facebook, then you are probably familiar with the application NetworkedBlogs which is one of the tools being used by bloggers to syndicate their web articles.

I have not been a regular blogger for sometime and I have not yet explored all of its functionalities so what I'll write is what I had observed.

The first time I used NetworkedBlogs, my feeds were pulled as soon as I published my post. Since I had not yet then automated the publication on my Facebook page, I had to manually syndicate the feeds. That was before.

Then, I changed my settings such that newly published posts will be automatically pulled and published/syndicated. Unfortunately, the pulling portion is not as fast as before. Maybe, it's because the number of users have already increased.

Another thing that is worth mentioning as per NetworkedBlogs FAQ is that the frequency of pulling the feeds is dependent on the number of followers. The lower number of followers, the longer the delay will be. Do I need to increase the number of my followers, then?

I got to do something. I had manually pulled my blog's latest post but still, there was no notification that a new feed was retrieved. It was about an hour, more or less, when finally, I found my latest blog post syndicated by NetworkedBlogs on my Facebook profile page. Right, that much delay.

So, my advice is don't panic. There's nothing wrong with your settings. NetworkedBlogs is just busy. Your feeds will be syndicated soon.

It's that time of the year again when there's nothing you can do but pay for the registration of domain name if you want to keep it. Otherwise, it will soon be snatched immediately especially when it is a pricey one. Since I started registering my own domain names, I've tried different domain registrars. Currently, most of my domains are registered with Namecheap.

A few of the features I love with NameCheap includes

Easy to use domain control panel which lets you perform almost all activities like setting up DNS, changing contact information, etc.

First Step in Getting Ready for Real Estate Transactions

I've often heard and read that there is money in real estate. Of course, if one owns a vast track of land, like a few acres and decided to sell it, there's really a connection. But if you don't own a land, you don't have the money to finance your real estate investment, and you don't have to guts to gamble your little salary, will there be money? Always curious on how things work, I wanted to find out if there's really money in real estate investing.

If a person is engaged in the real estate brokerage or buy and sell of real estate properties, and it is not his own properties, then according to Republic Act 9646 - The Real Estate Service Act of the Philippines - you must have a license. Real estate practice without a license means penalty.

SEC. 39. Penal Provisions

Any violation of the R.A. No 9646, including violations of this IRR, shall be meted the penalty of a fine of not less than one hundred thousand pesos (P100,000.00) or imprisonment of not less than two (2) years, or both such fine and imprisonment upon the discretion of the court. In case the violation is committed by an unlicensed real estate service practitioner, the penalty shall be double the aforesaid fine and imprisonment.

In case the violation is committed, by a partnership, corporation, association or any other juridical person, the partner, president, director or manager who has committed or consented to or knowingly tolerated such violation shall be held directly liable and responsible for the acts as principal or as a co-principal with the other participants, if any.

So as not to violate any laws, I embarked on getting myself certified. I attend the required 120 training hours for real estate. That's about P20,000.00 including transportation. Then, secured the other documentary requirements -notarized training certificates, clearances, transcript of records, IDs - of which one document almost cost me of not being able to apply for examination because of late release. Misunderstandings do occur sometimes. It was lucky for me that there was a one-week extension for acceptance of applications. I took the exam, of which majority of the questions were unfamiliar. Yet, again, luckily, I passed. Do I really have that luck in taking the examinations after all these years? I hope it will stay with me always. :)

I thought the expenses stopped after the review and examination. I was wrong. You need to pay the PRC registration fee, the Php20,000 surety bond, oath-taking ceremonies, and coming up is the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) registration.

Now, I am certified, licensed real estate broker.

After getting the PRC license, I needed to find my "listings", get accredited with property developers or property owners. My listings are posted at Real Estate Philippines

Then, make that first transaction. Still waiting for that moment.

For master resell rights owner, resell your resell rights to the product. Instead of selling the product only, include in the package your resell rights. This will increase the value of the product as it allows the purchaser or customer to resell also the product.
Resell through your mailing list, if you have one. A discount offer will more likely entice your list to make a purchase.
For private label rights (PLR) owner, you can rewrite or hire a rewriter to alter the product to differentiate its value from others who may own the same product and rights as yours.
Bundle the product with other resell products. Check though the rights included in the product if it allows bundling with other products.

Internet has become an important media for businesses and more and more earning opportunities have evolved. It is but wise to take a look at how one can earn through reselling and the rights associated with resell products.

Blogsvertise November Update

I am still checking and updating my blogs but can't wait to write a blog post on what I just found out about Blogsvertise.

Included in the tasks is the checking of referral links and actually checking the status of the websites. One of the sites I just checked is Blogsvertise, one of the blogging sites where I previously received payments for blog postings I've written. I started blogging for Blogsvertise early 2007 when there was no Paypal Philippines yet. Tasks were few and yet I got paid. As my studies took me almost 2 years to finish, that could also be the length of time I had not checked my programs including Blogsvertise.

I was surprised to find a number of pending tasks awaiting my blog entry dated as late as early 2009. And, my account is in Suspended status. :( I wonder why the tasks did not expire on their own since according to Blogsvertise, task offer expires within 5 days.

As I've mentioned, it was one of the paying programs I found online. And as per research, it is still paying. Let's hope my account will be restored to active status again. I'll keep you posted. Goodluck be with me. :)

Myonlinejourney - Pagerank Penalty

Since myonlinejourney got Google pagerank penalty, from pagerank #3 to pagerank #0, I have not given much attention to its pageranking. There were other probloggers who experienced a pagerank downgrade. It was assumed to be due to the activities we were doing as paid bloggers. That was about 2 to 3 years ago. I have already started and partially abandoned other blogs as I decided to pursue graduate studies.

To cut the story short, I finished my graduate degree but I miss the thrill of earning money online. So, I started checking my materials, domains, payment processors, emails and passwords. I am re-learning the ins and outs of working on online jobs. And started checking the status of my websites.

Wow! I do not know when it got ranked again by Google but today, this blog is PR #2. Am I elated? Of course, very much :)

Why? You should check my archives. Without much update, it still got a PR #2. Should I say, Mr. G found my website relevant? :)

Is pagerank (PR) important?

For webmasters, pagerank is important. But, there are also other important factors that a webmaster or website owner must consider which is dependent upon the objective of why the website was created. As it is controlled by Google, some webmasters ignore it as long as the website gets traffic and highly monetized. Although Google says PR is irrelevant, it is still used by many who understands PR as a means of valuing a website, the price of the domain in the marketplace, the price of backlinks, the price of articles, and the worth of the blogger.

Filipino Data Entry Jobs

Today, I found too many postings about online data entry jobs for Filipinos. As usual.

Now here's the scenario of some of the data entry jobs posted.

You need to follow instructions a to c, post your answers and send your answers to an email. You need to follow instructions correctly. Do not forget to use the correct subject title for the email. Once you send an email, you will receive an autoresponder reply with instructions to follow. Instructions may follow this format:

Visit the website or the url given. Take note that the website is only a job listing site, with no details on who or what company listed the job.
Find the job you want and get the code.
Find another job/announcement/posting and copy the title and the content.
Post the job you found in step #3 to the list of sites that are given, could be more or less than 5 websites.
Download an image and use it as your Facebook profile image.
Download another image, post it on your wall and tag your friends.
Add to your list of friends an FB verifier
Email the urls where you posted the announcement, your FB profile URL, and the code of the job you are interested.

A variation of the above steps will be to require you to visit a number of websites, share links with summaries of the posts from the visited website on your FB profile, and write a well-researched, well-thought review of the sites you visited.

Filipino Data Entry Jobs

If you are in dire need of a job, whether part-time or full-time, you would follow the instructions up to the dot just to get the contact details of the online job posting. With the rigid requirements just to get the contact details, you would think that the online job posting is real and paying.

Are these data entry job postings really real and paying? Maybe, maybe not.

The job listing may have come from another job listing website but the contact details were kept so job seekers will follow the instructions. What were the instructions all about? It may be true that it is one way of filtering job applicants. But, is that all there is to the instructions?

The job applicants who followed the instructions carefully are already promoting the websites enumerated in the instruction without any expense from the website owner. The job applicants should already be paid for doing the website promotion /data entry job in behalf of the website owner. It seems I've forgotten to mention increased website traffic and visitors.

I am not against the process. But, was the job listing a real job with real pay? Were there any applicants accepted and paid? Has the job lister tested the job himself so as to require other Filipino online job seekers to go through such a rigorous process?

These are just some questions we need to ponder on.
