It's been awhile since my last update. I have been busy pursuing one of my goals and once I get good results then I will be sharing it with you.

For today, if you have not yet heard about it, I would like to share with you what I found. Take a look at the screenshot below.

It is clean and professional looking, right? Well, it is a new search engine and it's name is quite easy to remember, Find.com

One of the features I noticed immediately is that there are 2 ways to search. First is you can use the search box provided. Enter the keyword to search and you'll get fast and accurate results.

The second way to search is using the toolbar. Simply append your keyword to the main url, http://find.com/, and the results you'll get will be the same as that of using the search box. So when you want to search for the term 'earn money online', you can immediate enter http://find.com/earn money online on your toolbar.

This question has put me into a standstill mode, To Earn Money or To Acquire Page Rank? If you are a website owner, particularly a blogger, who acquired a PR then lost it then maybe you are in the same dilemma.

Few minutes ago, while website hopping, I found an interesting note that says, "If you want to earn money online through your blog through paid links then forget page ranking." Somehow, I agree with this. PR does not guarantee earning. It may help add value to the links bought from the website but it can sometimes hinder blogger from fully monetizing the blog through various means since according to so-called experts, there are do's and don'ts in order not to be penalized by G.

When a person creates a website, particularly blog, one of the reasons is to earn money. Since blogging is heavily promoted as a means to earn money online, most newbie bloggers' goal is to write quality post in order to monetize their blog through paid blog post, paid links and other ads serving programs.

Instead of an 'or' in the middle, an 'and' will be very welcome.

But when it can't be done, which one would you choose, To Earn Money or To Acquire Page Rank?

Which one will yield more earnings?

Proxied Domains

Two of my domains registered with GoDaddy will expire this month. Since I was not able to fully put them into good use, I am having doubts whether to renew or not. In case I renew and decide later to sell, I can not do it since I have lost my access to the domain proxy details.

I have not realized that this will cause me a headache. I really wanted to keep the domains but I don't want to be paying the somewhat-a-little-bit-too-high-price-compared-with others for WHOIS privacy. Unfortunately, I can not cancel since WHOIS protection is separate from the GoDaddy account. This leaves me with 2 options: to let the domains expire or automatically renew.

I decided to just let the domains expire. I wish the new owner/s will be able to put them into good use.

Cleaning Blog Posts Day

My almost 3-months training ended last Friday with the next step still undecided. So, I have a free time until I return back to work on Thursday. I checked forum posts to be updated on what is going on to my favorite earning opportunities. They are still there and there are still many people being paid and newcomers enjoying the payments they are now receiving.

Then, I decided on spending an hour or 2 reviewing on what has happened to my journey to earning money online before working on my other pending personal projects. I browsed through the hundreds of posts and decided to do some 'cleaning'. Now, I feel more comfortable. Reading through the posts, I realized that I spent so much time time in blogging. But I know there are no regrets since I enjoyed the benefits of being a blogger.

There may or may not be a major decision in the next 2 weeks but my online activities including blogging will never be set aside. That would mean putting extra hour and effort on top of everything. Blogging has become and will always be a part of my regular routine.

I started my journey online with a free hosted personal page. When I began to find ways on how to earn money online, I started this blog. Although there were periods when I missed posting, I always come back like now.

Aside from my Blogger blogs, I also have free hosted sites at Awardspace.com. What I like about Awardspace before is the absence of ads and the ability to host my own domain name.

After the free hosted blog, I started to use shared hosting. My first shared hosting had so much resources that I was not able to use even 10% of what was in the package. Since renewing the hosting will just be wasting money, I tried to find a cheaper hosting instead of renewing.

I found a cheaper reseller webhosting account. I know how to register a domain but using customized nameservers and adding cPanel accounts to my account are new experiences. There were times when my sites are down because of some missed settings like yesterday but it was worth the experience when compared with the price I paid for a year. I know there are more to learn. In fact, I still do not have a page to promote my hosting except for a WordPress site with 3 packages splashed on the first 3 posts.

They say reseller webhosting is another dollar earner. As of now, I can't affirm it yet as I don't have enough time to promote this business. The competition is too stiff. Remember that promotion is always a key to a successful business.

For now, I am not thinking of transferring my hosting account. The technical support has been very accommodating and the support is always fast. This is very important for newbies to webhosting like me.

Nonpaying Employer

If you are doing business online and have not been that careful or have been careful but still became a victim, then this is just a reminder to be careful.

Doing business online means money and when there is a money, there is the tendency of being attracted to the sound of it. What I mean is this. When a person got hold of the money, even if he knows he owe someone and he has to pay it back, there is a possibility that he will delay the payment or never pay back at all. This is a very bad business practice.

I should have posted this a long time ago but the webmaster seemed to be professional enough with all the contracts and conditions he set before the work began. Trust always play a big role for online businesses and he seemed to play it very well.

Just to share my experience, I am talking about the webmaster/administrator/website owner of Fishers Travel SOS. I worked as Search Agent and another person I know worked as Country Editor for them a year ago and we were able to complete two guides. The offered payment for each guide was $250 and $300. Although the payment was not upfront and we were informed that payments for other nationalities are higher than what was offered, we still accepted the contract. We were also considerate enough not to accept the staggered mode of payment so as to save on money transfer fees so we told him to send the payments altogether.

Doing the guide takes a lot of time researching the entries. Since the place assigned to us is quite far, we even spent for long distance calls to confirm the contact details of the companies / persons included in the guide.

When the payment was supposed to be sent, some months after the publication, there were excuses and others. I badly needed the money then for personal reasons (and of course, I still badly need the money now for school fees since I am on training). The guides we finished were worth $500 and $600, respectively. In our country, that is already a big amount.

With numerous collection emails, he finally sent the payment for the first guide. The Country Editor did not receive any payment until now and I have not received yet the payment for the second guide. I am not quite sure if the Regional Editor was paid or not or whether other people who worked for them were paid or not. What I am posting here is he has not completed my payment and that he has not made any payment to the Country Editor.

My access to the webmail they provided was removed and even if I sent emails reminding them that they still owe us some money, they never responded.

It should be understood why I am not putting the link. If ever he or the administrators of the Fishers Travel SOS will read this and issue payments, I am willing to update this post.

Should Forum Moderators Be Paid?

I had worked on understanding another training requirements for several hours and finally submitted it with still gray areas. Before resting for the day, I visited some forums and I saw an ad where one website administrator is looking for moderators and that he is going to pay.

I had moderated some forums before, some forum administrators paid me for the service while some opted to just say thank you. So, what should it be? Should forum moderators be paid or not?

Basically, forum moderators help the forum become more organized. Forums are not spared from SPAM and even members have to be reminded from time to time the DO's and DONTs of a forum. Without the moderators, a forum administrator will have a hardtime in dealing with all the businesses of the forum, maintaining it 24/7. Unless, of course, forum administration is his full-time job.

Popularity is a reward for being a moderator but can it be a reason not to get paid for the service? There was once a forum member who questioned one administrator why he has not been paying or sharing his income with his moderators. Then I also asked myself, "Right, why does a forum administrator hesitate in paying back the efforts of the moderators?"

As a frequent forum user, are you willing to render free service for the sake of information reaching out the masses?

How Low Can Your Rate Be?

Checking my emails, I received an offline from someone I've known online. She was asking if I know someone who can write an article for her and she mentioned the rate. If my basis is my previous rates for article writing or blog posting, it is very, very low. If I tell you and you are a blogger, you will surely say "Whaaat?"

Considering that her client requires original articles about 100-words each, I honestly told her my thoughts on the subject. It is a personal preference anyway on whether to accept a low rate or earn nothing at all but it is still a very big question '?' mark

Considering that content is what had kept the internet alive and what powers most websites, content writing should be given more importance, I think so. There is the similarity between online writers and teachers. Teachers who are are responsible in helping our children become educated and better individuals almost always belong to the lower-bracket of income earners.

Very low payment is very rampant especially in bidding sites. Would you allow yourself to go that low? How low can you go? Is writing online still considered profitable if there are always writers who willing to accept lower than what others will accept as payment?

To Learn or To Earn

Lately, posts on my journey to earning money online was scarce. I decided to go full time studying some information technology theories and studying consumes most of my waking hours. A full-day schedule at school and with courseworks and requirements to finish, I am on the satisfactory level. My performance is not at par as when I was younger.

It is fun studying, meeting personally young, intelligent and energetic people and get to interact with them but I always get sidetracked when I am already infront of my PC. I missed my earnings, few dollars it may be. I missed the excitement of testing the various opportunities. I missed my everyday online journey.

There are times when I am on the road and an inspiration for an article just pop out. Writing an article can also be time consuming especially if you have so much in mind but have I need to ignore since I have a Japanese class at 8AM and I am not yet familiar with the vocabulary for the day or that a final exam is scheduled at the end of the day.

I still have a few weeks left with no final decision yet, to learn or to earn. To learn means an opportunity outside of my own world now. It also means more sacrifices and more hardwork and more money to spend. Whatever the future may bring, there is always a place I can go back.

Affiliate Program for 000webhost: A Scam?

I have been really busy lately for personal reasons but I have not forgotten that I have my online blogs that in one point in time have been a source of income for me. In fact, what keeps me busy these days is just a part of my future plan in having a more profitable online business. I want to offer products that can be used by ordinary internet users and even webmasters. That is a future plan anyway.

Back to the present, even with my busy schedule, I want to continue earning online so I am visiting some of my different affiliate programs if they are still alive. You must already know that affiliate programs are money earners in the internet. One of the programs I checked is 000webhost.

For those who are not yet aware of 000webhost, they offer free webhosting without any ads. You can develop a professional website without those annoying ads. They also offer an affiliate program that pays $5 per sign-up.

Googling '000webhost affiliate program' without even adding the word 'scam', Google results showed more than I need to know. As much as I want to promote the program, I can only say that the free webhosting is already enough. Don't expect more for the affiliate program. I have not read a single testimonial that they have been paid for the affiliate so I am not expecting payments too.

Few days ago, I received a message from Netfirms to get my own domain name with the extension of .me. I was at first shocked to find out that one of my domain names has expired and the price has increased three-fold. Fortunately, it is just another landrush in the internet industry. The rush for grabbing domain names with dot me (.me) extensions.

So, what is .me?

After the landrush for .asia domains, .me is the latest domain extension gaining popularity. This is because of its large potential for both personal and commercial usage. It is presumed to becoming and projecting a more personalized approach to dealing business in the internet.

Expring Domains

That was a long post before this being busy with my current training but I have not been offline anyway. Posting a blog can take sometime and those few precious minutes organizing thoughts and writing them down are rather spent on figuring what C code should be used or getting familiar with some Katakana or Hiragana characters.

Well, today, that is still the case. But, I received an email from Netfirms. Netfirms is one of my domain registrars. The email informed me that my domain name is available. My files are stored on another PC (which is under maintenance) and I know that I have renewed the domains that are about to expire so I checked DomainTools. DomainTools result showed that the domain is still registered until October.

I checked back again the email and that's the only time I noticed that the extension is '.me' My Paypal account has no available balance right now and I would not renew a domain for $29.95. That was a relief.

I am not familiar yet with the dot me domain extension (is this the next domain extension after dot Asia?) so I'll make another post after.

PayPerPost Blog of the Day

I have not updated this blog since Christmas vacation and it was quite a long vacation. I have lots of topics in store but some priorities came first. Now, I am back.

First on the list is that, surprise of all surprises, I made it to the list of the "PayPerPost Blog of the Day". To remember it, I made a screenshot for my own journal :d. With thousands of PayperPost bloggers, such thing does not happen everyday. Much more, if the blog is not as updated like mine.

I am not sure how I made it to the list so don't ask why. I am just glad I made it once but a second time, third time, nth time... will also be enjoyed and appreciated. Won't you?

Paypal Phishing (Fake) Emails

Phishingor fake emails are rampant online. When I was an active e-gold user, I get phishing emails almost everyday. Since my e-gold email is separate from my regular email, I just ignore all emails that inform me my e-gold account was blocked.

Today, I received a Paypal phishing (fake) email. It is not the first time but I still decide to post it here since some web users are not yet aware about phishing emails. Below is a screenshot of the Paypal phishing email that I received.

item #1 - Taking a closer look, the email header has spaces between "service", "@", "paypal." and "com"
item #2 - It is only the email address that was placed.
item #3 - Hovering the mouse over the link, the links points to item #4 and not the link that is displayed in item #3.

Below is a screenshot of the headers of real Paypal email correspondence.

items #5 and #7 have no spaces
item #6 shows the full name you registered with Paypal followed by Paypal email address.

To be safe, always open your Paypal account by typing the correct URL, www.paypal.com. You can also store the link in your Favorites folder.

When you receive fake, suspicious or Paypal phishing email, forward said email to spoof@paypal.com

I was site hopping again today (yesterday actually, because my browser stopped working while I was writing this post so I went to sleep) waiting for my downloads to finish when I searched on who might have mistakenly or generously gave some linky love on my one of my sites. To my surprise, I found a linky love at TheNextPost Although he made the post on April 2007, I believe it is never too late to express gratitude for such a generous act.

I found it very incovenient, actually irritating, that a customer service for a banking institution like EON or Unionbank does not know what a SWIFT code is that I have to define it for him. Not knowing what is a SWIFT code, he told me to contact my bank branch instead without even trying to find the information from his supervisor or fellow customer service representatives.

Knowing that a new shift of CS is on duty, I called back again. Thanks to Cheska who was knowledgeable of what I was asking.

Successful Withdrawal of Paypal to GSIS Ecard

Since Paypal was finally approved to be fully accessible to Philippine users, many Philippine Paypal users have successfully withdrawn their Paypal funds to their bank accounts.

Now, it is my turn to say I finally got my Paypal funds.

I can say that Unionbank's service has greatly improved lately. Based on previous feedbacks from other Paypal users, it took them about 2 to 3 weeks to finally receive their funds. Most of them used Unionbank's EON Visa Electron Card.

I was waiting for feedback from other GSIS ecard users before making a withdrawal but since I can no longer wait (looks like only very few on my sector are still aware of Paypal's existence), I went ahead and made my withdrawal. My transaction was only about 3 (or 4 ) days which will depend on how you count the days. I made my Paypal withdrawal last November 17, 2007 and funds were on my GSIS ecard last November 20, 2007.

So if you have an unverified Paypal Philippines account and you have a GSIS ecard, you can use your GSIS ecard to verify. Rest assured you can successfully receive your funds.

Some important things to consider when you use your GSIS ecard to verify your Paypal account.

1. Enroll your GSIS ecard for online banking, call (02)810-4747 or 1-800-10-810-4747 (Domestic toll free). Inform customer service that you need the account for Paypal transaction.

2. After 3 to 4 days, check your online account if already active.

3. You can now login to your Paypal account and attach GSIS ecard. Be sure you have available funds because Paypal will deduct/charge $1.95.

4. Call again customer service after 5 to 7 business days for your EXPUSE number.

5. Attached the EXPUSE number to your Paypal account in order to be verified.

It took me such a long time to figure out how to set-up the maximum discount of $97 from Dreamhost. I also found out that there are also other Dreamhosters who experienced the same. Maybe, my question was not clear enough or maybe the options were not obvious enough for me to figure out easily.

To help others who might be using Dreamhost in the future, I will be giving the obvious answer here.

To set-up your Dreamhost $97 discount coupon code
1. Visit https://panel.dreamhost.com/index.cgi?tree=home.rew&
2. Click on the last link on the page "Create Your Own Promo Codes!"
3. Click on the link "Create a New Dreamhost Promo Code"
4. Fill-up the space for Promo Code and Description. Leave the bonuses as is, or no bonuses

Here comes the not so obvious part

5. On the table "This promo code's discounts:", the last column is labeled "This Code's Discount". If you notice, the values are set to $0.00. You change those $0.00 into the amount of discount you want to give to your clients or referrals.

6. To save your promo code, click on "Create This Promo Code Now!"

To use your promo code, append a bar "|" followed by promo code to your referral link

Of course, before you can follow the instructions above and offer discounts to others, you must have an account with Dreamhost. If you do not have yet an account, use either one of the following Dreamhost coupons that I just created:

Battle between PayPerPost and Google Pagerank

Well, this post is only to affirm what others may have already found out. I am quite a bit late again, as usual, as I was busy organizing my files for a new project I have in mind. I was about to rest for the day when I received the ezine from Easy Wordpress with the heading "Will PPP Bloggers Receive the Next Google Slap?".

What is this all about?!? Being a Payperpost blogger, it naturally caught my attention.

Another PR update? Didn't Google updated the PR first week of November?

I just checked my PR before the weekend and it was still in PR2. After reading the whole article and the comments at Easy Wordpress, I went to check my PR and it is now a PR0. Luckily, I have not used my other blogs for any paid blogging jobs (As if I have enough time to maintain other blogs... lol)

There are questions out there, PPP, paid blogging or Google PR? For sure, votes are divided again. PR and rate for paid blogs are directly proportional somehow. No PR, lower payout for paid blogs. Use more paid blogging programs, you get no PR. So sad to end the day.

Twitter and Surfing Day

I have not visited my Twitter for about 3 months now so I decided to drop by while waiting for my downloads to finish. I noticed that I was not the only one who was in hiatus at Twitter. Maybe, they got tired of twittering :d or just too busy with their own lives like I was.

I have also update MyBlogLog to include my Twitter link. I still have not update my avatar at MyBlogLog to reflect what I am currently using. The avatar was changed due to the integration of the account with that of my YM account.

There's just too much updates going on with every program: new widgets, new codes, new merger, new options, etc. Some are placed on my SPAM emails which I seldom check. Talking about SPAM emails, I deleted about 1,500 SPAM emails. That's why I was able to read some important emails that got sorted wrongly.

I'll be checking for more updates I might have missed.
