About the book:

Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twentysomething girls?with one tiny exception: They are the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that made them, well, a little weird.?

After Celia Wird and her sisters help master vampire Misha save his family, their powers are exposed to the supernatural community of the Lake Tahoe region. But fame comes at a price, and being ?weird? isn?t always welcome.

To make matters worse, Celia desires the love of Alpha werewolf Aric, but his pack is bent on destroying their relationship to preserve his pureblood status. And once weres start turning up dead?with evidence pointing to the vampires?she must face the prospect of losing Aric forever. But the chaos only masks a new threat. An evil known as the Tribe has risen?and their sights are set on Celia and her sisters.

I absolutely fell in love with the Weird Girls series by Cecy Robson last year. The first book in the series, Sealed with a Curse, was such a winning debut for Ms. Robson that I was a little fearful of the dreaded “sophomore slump” that accompanies some second books in a series. I can unequivocally (yes, I did have to look that word up) say that this book, A Cursed Embrace, at least for me, blows the first book out of the water, throws it down the hill, ties it up on the railroad tracks, waits for the train to go by, and then beats the ever-loving socks off the first book. Okay, I over-exaggerate. But I actually LOVED Embrace better than Sealed!! Here’s why…

Characters

Let me start with the supporting characters first. I love living, err, reading about these sisters! I love Taran and her “I’m sex on a stick walking” -vibe she gives off. Who wears high heels to track bad guys in the woods?? Shayna is the tomboy little sister that might have picked up a opossum on the way home from school and wanted to keep it as a pet because it was “fluffy and white”. Emme is just so gosh darn cute and you know she’ll grow up to be an elementary school teacher. Seriously, I know these girls – these characters are plenty fleshed out

And then there is Celia, one of my favorite tortured heroines of all time. She’s been cursed to live with a tigress inside her that she can shapeshift into. But her strong, fierce personality leaks out and scares off any potential friends or suitors of the human variety. On the other side, to the supernatural Were community, she just isn’t good enough to be dating their potential leader. Her and her sisters are considered freaks. This affects Celia the worst out of all the sisters because if there’s any race that could relate to her, it’s the were community. Either way, she’s been alone for a long time. She’s spent her years looking out for her younger sisters without regard to her dating needs.

Aric, the object of her affection, is the alpha of all alphas (at least that’s what I think). He happens to be one of the few pure-blood weres left in the world. Unfortunately for him, the elders get cranky when he dates non-pure bloods and they really blow a gasket when he takes an interest in Celia. Aric is young, cocky, extremely alpha, and he is truly possessive and protective of what he deems is his. He’s one of the few who can handle and respect Celia’s strength.

But there is another who respects and wants Celia. Misha is the master vampire living in the Tahoe area whom Celia has helped in the past. Of course he’s hot. Of course he’s always there to protect Celia when she needs help and to get under Aric’s fur…. skin, whatever.

To say that there’s a love triangle in this book is not entirely accurate. Celia knows who she wants. And she makes it clear to everyone involved on several occasions. I’d ruin the story if I discussed the non-triangle further (I’m such a tease, no?)

Story

Ms. Robson has written my personal favorite type of book: an urban fantasy with romance that is weighted 50/50 for each. The urban fantasy genre, for me, is mystery, conflict, action, with a bit of supernatural gore thrown in for good measure. But you have GOT to have good writing to make sure the reader understands what the author is trying to convey in the scene. Bad writing, and this all ends up a hot mess of confusion. Ms. Robson does an excellent job writing these scenes and putting the reader right there in the action and all the emotions.

Speaking of emotions… it’s in the romance half of the story that my soul was utterly ripped to pieces. I’ve read emotional love stories before; heck, I cried for a few of the Brothers in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. But something about this story really gets to me. If I comment any more than that, I might be giving something away so I’ll just shut up now. I’ll just say that I absolutely loved the ending (as a reader) and I don’t think you can get a better last sentence for a book than what Ms. Robson wrote.

Ms. Robson, you ROCK! A Cursed Embrace is definitely on my list of Best/Favorite Reads of 2013, if not at the top.

Yup, I kind of liked this book.

Cecy (pronounced Sessy) Robson is an author with Penguin’s SIGNET ECLIPSE. She attributes her passion for story-telling back to the rough New Jersey neighborhood she was raised in. As a child, she was rarely allowed to leave the safety of her house and passed her time fantasizing about flying, fairies, and things that go bump in the night. Gifted and cursed with an overactive imagination, she began writing her Urban Fantasy Romance Series, Weird Girls, in May 2009. THE WEIRD GIRLS: A Novella and SEALED WITH A CURSE are now available. A CURSED EMBRACE, releases July 2, 2013 followed by A CURSED MOON: An eSpecial Novella December 2013, and CURSED BY DESTINY, January 2014.

I have a feature I created all by myself! Yay me!

So, you know how I work at the library, right? Well, it’s a dream job for me because I’m drooling over books that pass through my hands everyday. They taunt me up on the shelves. So I thought, why don’t I do something about it and make it part of the blog?

My position at the Main Branch of our county library system is “page” – I put the books away. That’s how I came up with the “catchy” feature title. Get it? Yeah, you know you do….

When I have time, I’m going to broaden my horizons and check out books that are not my usual thing and discuss/review them here on my blog.

First up are two of Patricia Brigg’s graphic novels. Being a huge fan of Ms. Brigg’s two series, Mercedes Thompson and Alpha & Omega, I had been wanting to check out these graphic novels for some time now. I was particularly in the mood to relive some of the older stories in both of the series.

Our library (and probably yours) does inter-library loans. So even though my branch doesn’t have these books on their shelves, I was able to borrow them from another branch (or two) in our library system. If we didn’t have them in our group of county libraries, our state does inter-state library loans. Amazingly awesome, huh?! I can borrow from other participating libraries all over Michigan! You should check your state to see if you have that service available. A whole new world of available books could open up for you!

But back to the graphic novels: you’ll notice I’m not reviewing these on their merits as a graphic novel itself. I’m not really a good judge of that because I just don’t read enough of them. I’m solely reviewing these as a reader of urban fantasy novels who picked up graphic novel versions of her favorite books. That’s the official disclaimer; that if you think these reviews suck, don’t blame me, I don’t know what I’m talking about.

About the book:

Mercy Thompson inhabits two worlds without truly belonging to either.

To the human inhabitants of Tri-Cities she’s an oddity, a fiercely independent woman who repairs cars for a living. To the town’s darker residents; werewolves, vampires, and fae, she’s a walker, a last-of-her-kind magical being with the power to become a coyote.

Mercy warily straddles the fine line dividing our everyday world from that darker dimension… until a boy, mauled by vicious werewolves and running for his life, appears at her door.

Now her two worlds are about to collide! Outnumbered and out-muscled, can Mercy possibly save the boy… or even herself?

Characters

Graphic novels are beautiful. Some of the artists are doing truly amazing work worthy of museums. But when you start messing with characters that I already have mental pictures of… things can go horribly wrong for this reader and I start to cringe. This version’s characters from Moon Called was dead on the money for me! The Mercy represented on the cover was exactly how I pictured her in my head from all my reading. The Mercy in the story boards was different but I had absolutely no qualms with her appearance.

Adam Hauptman was a little off for me. It only distracted me briefly in the first scenes but once he got the snot beat out of him (part of the story – don’t think I’m actually ruining anything if you haven’t read the book(s)) he looked better.

My personal favorite character representation? Zee!! But you don’t get a graphic novel to just look at the pictures to see what someone else thought your beloved characters looked like, right? You want to see how close they kept to the story. At least I did.

Story

It’s been maybe two years since I read Moon Called. Surprisingly, I remembered the story well and I could tell that this graphic novel followed the book very closely. Granted, some things were shortened, like fight scenes. Other scenes didn’t quite communicate emotions that the book did, like Zee’s always careful “fae-speak” when dealing with Mercy and how he’s always leery of helping unless absolutely necessary (except he’ll always open the garage). But you don’t miss those in the graphic novel. They just weren’t needed for the graphic novel.

I found myself looking forward to scenes from the book to see how they would be played out in the graphic novel and I was never disappointed. I can’t think of a scene that was missing.

My only qualm was that this book was the collection of the first four individual issues of the graphic novel series. There are more to the story so I was left hanging at the end. I’ve got the next collection on order from another library in Jackson, Michigan (waiting… waiting… waiting…)
“Cry Wolf” is Patricia Briggs’ “New York Times” bestselling novel about the werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham. Now, these characters come alive in full-color graphic novels.

I had such high hopes for this book. First, Dan Dos Santos did the cover art. LOVE that man’s work!!! Second, the Alpha & Omega series is one of my favorite series. Third, I always had a hard time picturing what Charles looked like so I was looking forward to the artwork and seeing what someone else thought Charles looked like. Unfortunately, I was let down by this book on both the story and the art work (but at least it has that kick-ass front cover!).

Story

The way each chapter (or issue) started was kind of awkward for me. There was always a flashback to Anna’s previous life with her pack in Chicago. Particularly awkward was the first chapter’s flashback. I think this was because of the previous novella and how this book had to play catch up a little bit. It just didn’t seem to follow as closely to the book as I would have liked.

Characters

Oh Charles, you will forever stay the handsome, native-american/welsh hunk in my brain. What they did to you and your facial expressions! Not my style and it did nothing for me. Bran was represented as much older than the way ALL the books wrote him. Both Charles and Bran had very severe expressions all the time. I think they completely missed the mark on both of them. I think Anna was okay, as well as Samuel. Asil looked a little older than he should have been.

I do love when graphic novels can illustrate in it’s panels an emotion with one picture and it’s placement next to anther picture. For instance, if someone is whispering, you might have a frame of someone talking on the phone and then, right next to it, a frame with a close up of the person’s lips. I’m telling you this because I noticed that the illustrators tried to use this method for illustrating some emotions in the storyboards and it ultimately came across clunky and missing the mark.

But again, this is just a regular book-reader’s opinion and not that of a true scholar of graphic novels. Eh, what are you gonna do…
The sparks of dislike burn hot, but the sparks of mutual attraction burn even hotter.

Ever Montgomery suffered the ultimate betrayal by the one man who she should have been able to count on for anything. It has left her hurt, jaded and incapable of forming relationships, but it also means that she can spot a liar a mile away. These traits are earning her a reputation as a reporter with a keen nose for a good story and a complete understanding of the extreme power of the written word.
Lincoln Caldwell, is the hot goalie for the New York Rangers. At twenty-four and a rising star, he works hard and he plays even harder. He?s gorgeous and carefree?the ultimate charmer. Ladies fall at his feet and the single life has never been lived the way Linc Caldwell does it.

When Ever publishes an article about Linc containing information that she received off the record, she finds herself on the receiving end of the athelete?s fury. Rather than basking in the glory of exposing Linc as a shameless user of women, she finds herself at his mercy when he demands and receives retribution.
Required by her editor to trail Linc for six weeks, Ever is forced to look at the real Linc Caldwell. And she just might find that she has misjudged him.

I had a hard time picking just one excerpt from the book to share with you today. Untimately, one of the hot and heavy ones beat out cute and sassy.

?Wait…where are you going? We?re not done here.?

Linc pulls my hand to his mouth and kisses my fingertips, lightly biting the end of one. ?Yes, we are.?

?No…you can?t just start that and not finish.?

Gently smiling, Linc brings his hands up and cups my face. He leans in and looks in my eyes. ?Ever…I did finish what I started. I never intended for it to go any further than that tonight.?

I?m lost. How can Linc bring me to two seismic orgasms and then just leave me? How can he not be crawling all over and up in me right now? And the most important question…did I do something wrong? I glance down and see the rock hard bulge straining the front of his jeans, so I know he wants me. But why doesn?t he act on it?

?I don?t understand,? I say weakly.

He kisses me then. It?s warm and my mouth opens willingly. He slowly and softly touches his tongue to mine and then pulls back. ?I?m not the guy you think I am, Ever. I?m not about to fuck you when you already think that is my modus operandi. I want you to see I don?t just live by what my dick tells me to do.?

My mouth falls open. Linc releases my face and steps back. I scramble from the bed and put my robe back on, belting it tightly. I feel way too vulnerable buck ass naked while he?s fully dressed.

?But I don?t think that about you,? I tell him.

?Don?t you??

Well, okay, I deserve that doubt. And I have thought that about him in the past. And hell, maybe I still do think that about him, but it?s also not something that bothers me anymore. I understand he lives his life freely and that may include sexual interludes with women.

I?m free and unattached. No relationship to hold me back. I?m becoming more sexually liberal every minute I spend in Linc?s presence.

Shit! I want to be that woman he has an interlude with right now.

And I want him to feel as good as he made me feel tonight.

?Linc…that article I wrote has nothing to do with what?s going on right now.?

?But it does, Ever. It has everything to do with me not sinking myself into you tonight.?

About the book:

Mercy Thompson?s life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman?the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack?has made her a stepmother to his daughter Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy?s life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more….

After an accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can?t reach Adam?or anyone else in the pack for that matter. They?ve all been abducted.

Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With the werewolves fighting a political battle to gain acceptance from the public, Mercy fears Adam?s disappearance may be related?and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outclassed and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

Frost Burned is currently tied with Kim Harrison’s Ever After for Best Book I’ve Read This Year. Review over. I’m outta here… peace!

There are authors for me that are the Holy Grail of authors (“What are you going to do, bleed on me?” – I get so distracted…). Authors that, no matter what, I read their books. I won’t lag behind on their series’ for more than a month. But I also (maybe unfairly) expect great big HUGE things from their books. I’ve invested hours and hours into their characters and worlds. I’m sucked in and I never want to let go. One such author is Patricia Briggs.

Up until this point, Ms. Briggs’ Alpha & Omega series was my favorite between her two most popular series. Now I have to say Mercedes is tops over Charles & Anna. I think this time around, it’s the supporting characters and that nothing is held back that puts Frost Burned at the top of Favorite Reads of 2013.

Characters

All of the Mercedes Thompson books start you off by plopping you smack down into her life as it’s happening. This time around, we get to witness Mercy bonding with Jesse, Adam’s daughter, as they brave the horror (to Mercy, anyways) of what is known as Black Friday. Just the start of the book was enjoyable for me because I think this was the most interaction we’ve seen between Jesse and Mercy to date. Jesse is growing up and Mercy is treading in new waters with Jesse so we get to witness that new dynamic. I love Jesse and I really hope to see her character more and more in the future.

Although the last book, River Marked, was all about Adam and Mercy, I really feel like this book actually delved deeper into their relationship. Adam is still one of my favorite Alphas out there – who doesn’t love a wolf in a business suit?!?!

While I didn’t hate River Marked, that book took us away from all my favorite supporting characters for the better part of the book. Frost Burned brought me back to ALL my favorites! Seriously, I giggled like a school girl whenever one popped into a scene. You’ll be extremely surprised by the characters who take big leads in the story and also by some characters who “come out to play” in the story. I about choked on my coffee when one such character showed up!!!

Story / Tempo

Hands down, this is one of the best stories in the Mercedes Thompson series. Ms. Briggs manages to mix in Mercy’s magic, her and Adam’s relationship, the pack, the vamps, the fae, humans, her Alpha & Omega series, and all without watering down a thing!!! Seriously, within the first quarter of the book, I was crying over something that happened. NOTHING IS HELD BACK. Listen to the words coming out of my mouth, err on the screen.

Really, I was done with this “review” like, about 500 words ago. Mercedes Thompson fans, just go read this already or get caught up…

Patricia Briggs, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Mercy Thompson series, lives in Washington State with her husband, children, and a small herd of horses. She has written 17 novels to date. Briggs began her career writing traditional fantasy novels, the first of which was published by Ace Books in 1993, and shifted gears in 2006 to write urban fantasy. In Fall 2010, Patricia made another foray into traditional fantasy, when Ace published a revised version of her very first book, Masques (2010), and its never-before-published sequel, Wolfsbane (2010), both of which debuted on the New York Times bestsellers list for Mass Market Fiction.

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it?s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he?s been her best friend and confidant for better part of the last few years? and is so off limits. It?s a good thing she?s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome. But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can?t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to Confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt? and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy on the eyes deacon? only eight months away from becoming a priest. As Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro?s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn?t know what to think. She?s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn?t want and the man she can?t have. And she isn?t sure how she can live with herself either way.

I reviewed books. Oh yes, I did! Thanks to the ARC Clean Sweep Challenge, I’ve managed to clean up my NetGalley and Edelweiss books. I’ve cleaned out virtually all my ARCs. Until this past week where I blew it on NetGalley…

Speaking of NetGalley, I’m participating in their Wellness Challenge that lasts until July 10th. I sat in on their first Webinar this past Thursday and learned quite a bit. If you’re not NetGalley savvy, this is definitely a webinar you want to attend. Check out all the details HERE if you’re interested.

Does anyone get the cultural reference in my post’s title? I’ve been wanting to do this every week but I was always afraid I’d be infringing on some sort of copyright or something like that (yada, yada, yada). Let me know if you get the now TWO references!!!!!

About the book:

Allison Sekemoto has vowed to rescue her creator, Kanin, who is being held hostage and tortured by the psychotic vampire Sarren. The call of blood leads her back to the beginning?New Covington and the Fringe, and a vampire prince who wants her dead yet may become her wary ally.

Even as Allie faces shocking revelations and heartbreak like she?s never known, a new strain of the Red Lung virus that decimated humanity is rising to threaten human and vampire alike.

I am so glad I continued with this series. I was completely unimpressed with the first book in the series, The Immortal Rules and said as much in my review (HERE). But like any “mostly normal” human on this earth, I needed closure. Didn’t really get that but boy did I get an awesome ride to the crazy end! Yep, I must have the next book like, NOW!

World Building / Story

Last book, I complained (is that the right word?) about how much Ms. Kagawa tried to take on when she set out to build her world. It was as if she tried to build all at once a dystopian, vampire, zombie world. For me, it was almost “too much, too soon”. This time around, Ms. Kagawa seemed focused on the story of Allie finding her maker and what it is to be a vampire/beast. The setting is simply sometime in a future dystopian world and it only plays a small part in the story. The zombies have become merely an obstacle for Allie. Simple…. well, not so much.

Characters

The Eternity Cure begins just months after Allie has left everyone and she sets out alone to find her maker. Not an easy task given she has no idea where to start but she’s determined to follow the blood bond that pulls her towards him. She feels she owes Kanin; to rescue him from his captor. In just the short time Allie has been a vampire, she’s become a very smart, strong, and also caring vampire. This is all a result of Kanin’s excellent teaching from the first book. But after all she endured since the training, Allie has grown 100-fold and is only becoming a better vampire, in my eyes. I love the character and I enjoyed watching her balance her humanity with her vampirism all throughout the story.

I read another review that mentioned all the other characters coming back. It didn’t really ruin the surprise for me but I think I’ll leave out the names of returning characters just to be safe. Suffice to say, they will make you hate them more, love them to pieces, and shred your heart as you cry into your soggy tissues.

This time around the pacing of the story was perfect for me. I was so into reading the book, I hadn’t realized how far I was until I looked down on my reader’s counter-thingy-ma-jingy! Absolutely amazing considering I’m the one who goes into a movie knowing exactly how long it is and I watch my watch, anticipating the big wrap-up because the movie is almost over.

The ending of this book was superbly done and I don’t think Ms. Kagawa could have or should have done it any other way. I loved it! What’s wrong with a little frustration? Books are supposed to make you feel something, right?

I personally was glad I jumped on board again and went for a ride with Ms. Kagawa. Thanks for the lift!

Julie Kagawa, the New York Times bestselling author of the Iron Fey and Blood of Eden series was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos, and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn?t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish, and the odd eel.

When not swimming for her life, Julie immersed herself in books, often to the chagrin of her schoolteachers, who would find she hid novels behind her Math textbooks during class. Her love of reading led her to pen some very dark and gruesome stories, complete with colored illustrations, to shock her hapless teachers. The gory tales faded with time, but the passion for writing remained, long after she graduated and was supposed to get a real job.

To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dogtrainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full time.

Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian Shepherd who is too smart for his own good, and the latest addition, a hyper-active Papillon.

About the book:

Centuries after wars nearly destroyed civilization, the two islands of New Pacifica stand alone, a terraformed paradise where even the Reduction?the devastating brain disorder that sparked the wars?is a distant memory. Yet on the isle of Galatea, an uprising against the ruling aristocrats has turned deadly. The revolutionaries? weapon is a drug that damages their enemies? brains, and the only hope is rescue by a mysterious spy known as the Wild Poppy.

On the neighboring island of Albion, no one suspects that the Wild Poppy is actually famously frivolous aristocrat Persis Blake. The teenager uses her shallow, socialite trappings to hide her true purpose: her gossipy flutternotes are encrypted plans, her pampered sea mink is genetically engineered for spying, and her well-publicized new romance with handsome Galatean medic Justen Helo? is her most dangerous mission ever.

Though Persis is falling for Justen, she can?t risk showing him her true self, especially once she learns he?s hiding far more than simply his disenchantment with his country?s revolution and his undeniable attraction to the silly socialite he?s pretending to love. His darkest secret could plunge both islands into a new dark age, and Persis realizes that when it comes to Justen Helo, she?s not only risking her heart, she?s risking the world she?s sworn to protect.

In this thrilling adventure inspired by The Scarlet Pimpernel, Diana Peterfreund creates an exquisitely rendered world where nothing is as it seems and two teens with very different pasts fight for a future only they dare to imagine.

About the book:

Love or life.
Henry or their child.
The end of her family or the end of the world.
Kate must choose.

During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can’t stop her–until Cronus offers a deal.

In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he’ll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.

With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.

Even if it costs her eternity.

This final book in the Goddess Test trilogy utterly shredded me. After the huge dangle-me-off-the-bridge ending of Goddess Interrupted, I was ready for some happiness to fall Kate’s way. Kate’s happily-ever-after is a long fought battle but so worth every word to the very end.

SPOILER WARNING: If you haven’t read any of the previous books, my review has spoilers for those books!!!

Story / World Building / Setting

The Goddess Inheritance picks up Kate’s story nine months into her pregnancy. She’s been held captive by Calliope with Cronus’s help on the Titan’s island. Cronus is busy trying to destroy his children (and the world, for that matter) for imprisoning him. Calliope just wants to punish Kate and steal Henry back. It’s a tiny bit more complicated than that. If you’re still reading this, you already know that or you’re just punishing yourself by spoiling the previous books and continuing to read this review

Immediately, we’re thrown into action. There wasn’t one part of the book that sat stagnant, lulled, or otherwise bored me! Even at times when Ms. Carter was explaining the setting, painting the landscape with words (to be slightly poetic) I was completely engaged with the story and always waiting for the next shoe to drop. Or in this case, waiting for the next person’s move. It was an entire game of chess squashed into the story. And I loved it!!! I love stories involving strategy!!

Characters

Kate has come a loooooong way from the timid, naive girl in The Goddess Test (book one). Her entire reason for being has been completely changed in the last nine months and now it’s not all about her. She has a child to protect and Henry to get back to. She knows what she wants, she just has to work on her execution a bit. And maybe a little patience. But she’s in an impossible situation that more times than not, tore my heart out. And it wasn’t always over her child. Her relationship with Henry was the main heartbreaker for me. I won’t go in to details but, yeah… Kate earned her HEA.

I think the best part of the story was that being the final book in the trilogy, Ms. Carter held absolutely nothing back when it came to the supporting characters. Ava, Ava, Ava… what are we going to do with you??? It can’t be free-love for everyone! Ava comes out of this book as one of the most complicated of all the characters. And that’s saying a lot considering all the characters are pretty messed up!

But if you can hold on to the end, brace yourself, you’ll be rewarded with an ending you never saw coming and perhaps a conflict or two you’ve been dying to happen before this! This was the best book in the trilogy.

I hope that some of the openings left by Ms. Carter towards the end of the book work their way into novellas or books in the future even though she’s moved on to a new series (The Blackcoat Rebellion). Keep your eyes out for that later this year around November.

About the Book:

He was the one man I couldn?t avoid. And the one man I couldn?t resist.
Damien Stark could have his way with any woman. He was sexy, confident, and commanding: Anything he wanted, he got. And what he wanted was me.

Our attraction was unmistakable, almost beyond control, but as much as I ached to be his, I feared the pressures of his demands. Submitting to Damien meant I had to bare the darkest truth about my past?and risk breaking us apart.

But Damien was haunted, too. And as our passion came to obsess us both, his secrets threatened to destroy him?and us?forever.
Release Me is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

I admit it – I love these books!!! What books am I talking about? Books like the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy or Sylvia Day’s Crossfire novels. You know you like them, too; you just won’t admit it in public. That’s why you read them on your Kindle, your Nook, or your iPad – so no one knows your dirty little secret. I’m familiar with this strategy because it’s what I do, duh. Although, I did buy the actual Fifty Shades of Grey books because Target had them on sale and I had to have them one right after the other. Target is closer than the library; I was that desperate.

So, enough about you… why did I wait so long to read this? Because I’m completely tri-polar when it comes to my reading (bi-polar with everything else). One minute I want all the pretty-covered young adult books, the next minute I need a good urban fantasy to get my action on. When those thrills are exhausted, I need some lovin’ with a good romance in the form of either a new adult or one of these “erotica lite” books. I call this new crop of hot and heavy books for hard-up moms (like me) “erotica lite” because I personally don’t feel they are true erotica in the same form as all the other erotica that’s been around forever. You compare Release Me to some of the stuff that Ann Rice has written and this pales to some of the hard core images that Ms. Rice can conjure up with her words. Even compared to Fifty Shades, Release Me is a bit on the tamer side. I’m not a scholar on erotica, this is all just my humble, Ohio State-educated opinion.

Release Me was another example of the right book at the right time. I was behind in reading my ARCs and everything was looking like a chore. So I picked up Release Me and bang! Done in 2 evenings. That’s quick for me!

Story / Tempo

I read this story so quickly because it’s a fast, quick, easy read. It’s told from Nikki’s POV and we meet her as she attends an art event for her boss. Her boss has given her the assignment of capturing the attention of multimillionaire Damien Stark to procure a meeting to pitch their company’s newest product. Nikki is actually a very smart, intelligent woman and she knows how to play the game. She won’t let her boss use her for her looks alone but she also has no problem with getting cozy with Damien Stark. She’s had her eyes on him for quite some time.

The story spends quite a bit of plot-time establishing the relationship between Damien and Nikki so the story is light on drama. There is a plot/drama behind the relationship and that’s where I liked this book a bit better than other books I’ve read of this “genre”. This drama appears to continue into the next book, if the ending is any indication. At least I hope it does. Who doesn’t love drama mixed in with hot lovin’?

Characters

Yes, we do have a mysterious, hot, tortured multimillionaire in this book. But our lady interest, Nikki, is smart, educated, strong, and is able to say “no” and mean it. And Damien likes it. Nikki has her own past issues that Damien wants to help Nikki with as well. I really can’t help but fall for Damien. I hope we get just a bit more personality out of him in the next books because while he was hiding his past from Nikki and the public, he was keeping himself hidden from the reader, too.

Someone please get the song “Darling Nikki” by Prince out of my head!!!! Every time I saw Nikki’s name in print I kept hearing Prince scream. And no, kiddies, Prince’s version is NOT a remake of the Foo Fighter’s version. I should come over and smack you if you think that. But back to my review…

I was torn between rating this book a 3.5 star and 4 star review. Four stars won out in the end because I need to read Claim Me (Stark Trilogy #2) as soon as I can get my hands on it and because Release Me was exactly what it should have been, an utterly enjoyable, fun read that can distract you from life for hours.

It’s June 1st and that means the Clean Sweep ARC Challenge is officially over! I actually did really good for me! I’m still stuck on The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa but I kind of expected that to happen. I read her stuff very slowly, although I must say that at 30% it’s gotten veeeeerrrry interesting.

A great big HUGE THANK YOU to Kimba the Caffeinated Reviewer and Kimberly at The Windy Pages for hosting this awesome month-long event.

About the book:

After casting out a dark spirit, Callie McFay, a professor of gothic literature, has at last restored a semblance of calm to her rambling Victorian house. But in the nearby thicket of the Honeysuckle Forest, and in the currents of the rushing Undine River, more trouble is stirring. . .

The enchanted town of Fairwick?s dazzling mix of mythical creatures has come under siege from the Grove: a sinister group of witches determined to banish the fey back to their ancestral land. With factions turning on one another, all are cruelly forced to take sides. Callie?s grandmother, a prominent Grove member, demands her granddaughter?s compliance, but half-witch/half-fey Callie can hardly betray her friends and colleagues at the college.

To stave off disaster, Callie enlists Duncan Laird, an alluring seductive academic who cultivates her vast magical potential, but to what end? Deeply conflicted, Callie struggles to save her beloved Fairwick, dangerously pushing her extraordinary powers to the limit?risking all, even the needs of her own passionate heart.

A funny thing happened on the way to reviewing this book. I started writing the review from my notes and realized my notes utterly sucked dishwater. I’m sure that’s happened to everyone, right? I don’t know what everyone else does but what do I do? I re-read! Yep, that’s right. Now, granted, I skim the boring stuff like the pondering to themselves, talking to un-important people, blah, blah, blah…

But what was originally a 3.5 star review has now turned into a solid 4 star review. Is that morally right? Is it fair? Should I have done the review sooner? Should I have taken better notes? The answer is “I don’t know”, “probably not”, “yeppers”, and “you betcha”. But that’s not real life and so I’m here to tell you why I really like this series and why I’m anxiously waiting for the next book in the series. I’ll also tell you why I changed my mind on my original review.

World Building / Setting

In case you didn’t read my review of the first book in the series, The Demon Lover, let me again say that I believe the covers and the titles of this series really don’t the stories the justice it deserves as an urban fantasy tale. Oh, don’t get me wrong, both books are full of romance (more on that in a minute) but Ms. Dark does a phenomenal job building up a whole world of supernaturals that converge upon a small town in upstate New York called Fairwick. In the case of The Water Witch, we actually see more of the area around Fairwick and not so much on the college campus itself. I missed the college campus setting from the first book and that was one area where I “dinged” the book. But after my re-read, I actually didn’t care so much about the campus; I got caught up in the story of why all these supernaturals live around Fairwick and their history there.

Story / Tempo

The reason why all these supernaturals are in and around Fairwick is because there is a “door” that opens up to the other world where the fae live. Unfortunately for the fae, there’s a group of witches bent on closing this door to keep out the nasties, which, in the witches’ eyes, are everyone else but witches.

While Fairwick is preparing to “battle” this group of witches, Callie is trying to unlock her powers which were warded (or bound). There are about four to five intersecting story lines going on through all this that keeps the pace of the book moving all the way to the climatic ending. I still gasped (again!) and couldn’t believe so little time was spent dwelling on the realization that comes at the very end (I can say NO more so don’t ask).

Characters

It was here in the characters section where in my notes I got heavy handed in my assessment of the book. I was waaaayyy too harsh. You see, I really missed a lot of characters from the first book. I’m talking characters that drove the first story. I was completely smitten with the characters from the first story that I couldn’t let go. In retrospect, Ms. Dark needed to let go of a few of them to take the story in the direction she wanted to.

I’m not saying that all the characters I loved are gone. Oh no, we still have Liz, Diana, Soheila, and Frank, among others. And I love that Ralph, her familiar is back and smarter than ever (mice are smart, you know!) I did miss the vampires, though! They sure were a fun, campy bunch from the last book.

But we do meet some new characters. There’s The Fates who are never how I would have ever imagined them. Unfortunately, one of my favorite characters only sticks around this book but I hope to see her again in the future (maybe?)

Romance? Yes, there is romance! Am I completely and utterly heartbroken that it’s not with her true love? Yes… and no. Did my heart break into little itty bitty pieces at the end of the book? Oh, yes it did, with so many unanswered questions. Speaking of which…

The next book in the series, The Angel Stone (Fairwick Chronicles #2) is expected out September 3rd, 2013.
Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. WHY THE *#@! AREN’T YOU READING THIS SERIES YET?!?!?! Do I need to come over there and kick you in the tookus? C’mon, tell me! By the way, who are Noah and Echo?

Characters

Beth’s life sucks. There are no two ways about it. We learned it was bad in Pushing the Limits but we didn’t know just how bad it was. It’s pretty bad. It’s amazing Beth is doing as well as she is. Beth is so incredibly jaded and broken but there are so many reasons for it and we learn every sad one.

Dare You To picks up about a week or two after Pushing the Limits with Isaiah and Noah trying to convince Beth to move in with them. Beth is so focused on taking care of her mother she can’t see a future for herself. It’s her uncle that forces her to move in with him outside the city limits to a new environment away from her mother. We learn so much about Beth’s past that it adds so many layers to her personality and gives such dimension to the story. As the reader, you really get into Beth’s head and feel for her; you end up cheering for her to get her happily ever after.

Ryan is the baseball pitcher with a future. He just doesn’t know which one he wants yet. His father has had Ryan’s future all planned out for him for some time but Ryan may want something different. It’s an old story of going against your parent’s wishes for your future but Ms. McGarry does it so incredibly well. Ryan is swoon worthy, a leader, a gentleman, a guy’s guy, a jock, and an intellectual all rolled into one fantastic package. How could you not want Beth’s HEA to be with Ryan. But how do we get polar opposites together?

Story / Tempo

Getting characters who appear to be opposites in every way is a skill Ms. McGarry excels in! She smashed it out of the park in Pushing the Limits and she more than does it again in Dare You To. The very beginning scene is where Beth and Ryan meet each other but it’s not for quite awhile before they meet again (you can read the first scene on the Harlequin Teen website HERE, just click towards the bottom “Read Excerpt”). I was quite antsy for these two to meet again. I think Ms. McGarry was teasing us on purpose; building up the suspense. But it is definitely NOT love, lust, or anything of the sort at first sight.

The thing about Ms. McGarry’s stories so far is that they are NOT simple, straight line, from point A to B stories. There are a ton of complications that get in the way to the final HEA so you never know what’s going to happen and how it’s going to happen. It’s that mystery that plays in the background behind the utterly sweet love story between Beth and Ryan.

I made the brief comment on Goodreads that this was the love story I had been waiting for for a long time (sorry, no easy way to write that sentence). And this truly was. It took me back to a time when anything was possible and futures were bright shining things for the taking. When you had a guy who could make you look at the rain and clouds but see nothing but bright rays of sunshine.

Yep, I enjoyed this book thaaaat much….

After her youngest of three children officially slept through the night, Katie McGarry, a stay at home mom, decided to pursue her passion for writing. The news was a shock to most since she graduated from college with a BA in Political Science. She never told anyone, besides her best friend from childhood, that she wrote anything beyond her own name.

Katie?s debut Young Adult novel, Pushing The Limits, was sold by the wonderful Kevan Lyon of the Marsal Lyon Literary Agency to Harlequin Teen. The novel is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2012.

Katie was a teenager during the age of grunge and boy bands and remembers those years as the best and worst of her life. Writing, as Katie often told her best friend, is cheaper than therapy.

About the Book:

Tara Collins just wants to be normal. Everyone else wants her dead.
Tara?s eccentric aunt raised her to be fearful of the world and follow the rules. But after her aunt?s death, Tara is ready to take control and experience life for the first time. But she quickly discovers that everything she?s been told is a web of lies. Determined to solve the mystery of who she is truly, she hires private investigator to help her uncover the truth.

Christian Roth is more than your average PI. A vampire and ex-demon hunter, Christian lives among the humans, trying to be ?normal.? But recently, things seem to be falling apart. There?s a crazed demon hell-bent on revenge hunting him down and a fae assassin on the loose with an unknown target. Plus, the Order he abandoned desperately needs his help.

As the secrets of Tara?s past collide with the problems in Christian?s present, she finds herself fighting her attraction to the dark and mysterious investigator. Falling in love does not fit into her plans at all, but Tara soon learns that some rules are meant to be broken.

As soon as I was done reading this book I was commenting with my long-lost book signing buddy, Nan, that I haven’t been reading any true, straight-up paranormal romances lately and I really missed them. I’m behind on all my Black Dagger Brotherhood, Lords of the Underworld, and Dark Hunter series. But Bittersweet Blood was exactly what the doctored ordered to cure me of the “young adult” stupor I had been wallowing in at the time. It wasn’t the shock to my system that a BDB book would have been. But oh, was there a whole bunch of smexy going on.

Story / Tempo / World Building

First off, I’m one of those readers that LOVES two-person POV stories. I absolutely sink my teeth into books written where you have ONE story told from TWO different sides so you can see all the angst, sacrifices, and turmoil that go into every decision a character makes. Granted, not all books should be written this way but I personally believe PNR lends itself extremely well to this modus operandi. Especially this story.

I really enjoyed the way the story starts out (you can find the first chapter on Entangled’s website HERE). Tara has recently moved to London from the Yorkshire Moors where she had spent her entire life sheltered from the world until 6 months ago when her Aunt Kathy passed away. She’s come to London to start a normal life but to also find out who she is after discovering files that lead her to believe her aunt Kathy isn’t really her aunt after all. She’s standing outside a bunch of office buildings trying to decide whether to go through with hiring a private investigator or to just let it all be. She’s also trying to find the building itself when she stumbles into a stranger who points her in the right direction. Ahhh, talk, dark stranger… yep, sounds totally cheesy but actually it’s not!!! Ms. Croft did a fabulous job flirting with the dark, brooding hero type and the Christian Grey stereotype. Yeah, yeah, I saw the similarities but they went “bye-bye” in two seconds flat. The two person POV helped. And it’s not like Tara fell for this Christian right away. She later finds out he’s a vampire and all she wants is to be is a normal. Yep, that’s a struggle… normal or hot vamp in bed? Hmmmm….

Ms. Croft also did a fabulous job introducing her world and keeping it secondary to the story. By the end of the story, she manages to introduce not only vampires and demons but she included weres, fae, and shapeshifters. It never got in the way of the plot and I simply want more of this world.

I tend to read two person POVs quickly (sorry, but I just can’t seem to get enough of these!) so this turned out to be a super quick read for me, like a two-evening read. The story did move quickly, there wasn’t a lull in site, and Ms. Croft actually surprised me a couple of times with story directions I didn’t see coming. You just don’t see that very often anymore. I loved it!!!
Characters

I didn’t think I was going to like Tara as much as I ended up liking her. From the start, I was leery that because Tara left the country-side only 6 months prior that she was going to be this shy, mousy, weakling in the city trying to make it on her own. Turns out that she’s always longed to get off her estate in the Moors and had been sneaking out to watch people in the small village nearby. She’s actually pretty smart and brave with a whole mess of naive mixed in. Plus there’s that whole “mystery” part to her that comes out and, well… I actually liked her character a ton!

Our hero, Christian Roth, is your typical bored 500 year old vampire who used to hunt demons but is now content with just living amongst the humans. He would have been the same ‘ole, same ‘ole uber vampire except for his interactions with the supporting characters. My faves were Graham, his human servant and Carl, Christian’s head of security. And then there’s Piers but my mind isn’t entirely made up about him. He’s a little rough around the edges for me. I’d like to see his edges smoothed out by a lady friend in the future

Speaking of which, looking at Ms. Croft’s website, she has listed that the next book in the series will be Bittersweet Magic (The Order #2) and it’s tentatively set to release June 2013. I can’t find anything on Goodreads, Amazon, or Entangled about it so lets just hope it’s on its way and soon!

I grew up in the north of England, and after training as an accountant, I spent four years working as a volunteer in Zambia which left me with a love of the sun and a dislike of 9-5 work. I then spent a number of years mixing travel (whenever possible) with work (whenever necessary) but have now settled down to a life of writing and picking almonds.

I share the farm with my husband, four dogs, three cats, a horse, two goats, a three-legged Vietnamese pot-bellied pig, and a handful of chickens. It?s a perfect place to indulge my two great passions, reading and writing.

I write lots of different things, but mainly paranormal and science-fiction, usually with a strong element of romance.

About the book:

Natalie?s one of Frankenstein?s creations and works in a New York City morgue. So of course she needs therapy. She and her friends?er, fellow monsters?have formed the world?s most exclusive, most dysfunctional support group. What could go wrong?

Undetected in the modern world and under pressure to stay that way, Natalie Grey, Dracula, Bob the Blob, and others (including the fetching wolfman Alec) meet regularly to talk about the pressures of being infamous in the Big Apple. Topics include how long it?s been since their last sighting, how their ?story? creates stereotypes they can?t fulfill, and?gasp?sometimes even their feelings. But when their pervy Invisible Man, Ellis, is killed in a manner reminiscent of the H.G. Wells novel, it?s clear someone?s discovered their existence and is down for some monster busting.

Led by Natalie?and definitely not helped by Hyde?s bloodthirsty tendencies?the members of Monstofelldosis Anonymous band together for security and a little sleuthing. And maybe?maybe?if they don?t end up dead, they?ll end up friends somewhere along the way.

My blogging bestie, Lisa at Paranormal and Urban Fantasy Reviews, mentioned this book to me so off I went to check it out (she orders me around a lot ). I thought it was such a unique premise that I snapped it up on Edelweiss. I really looked forward to reading it. As I read the ARC, I had some issues with the POV(s) and it took me a little bit to get into the groove of the story but once I did, I really enjoyed the eclectic group of characters and the mystery of who’s killing them off.

Characters / Setting / World Building

The whole premise of the story is that all those monster stories you heard growing up are actually, partially true. Those monsters exist. The authors who penned their stories just might not have gotten the monster’s details quite correct. For instance, we all know Frankenstein was actually the doctor’s name and he built “the monster”. But in this world, he built several “monsters”, one of which is Natalie Grey. She’s several hundred years old and does her best to blend in with the good folks of New York City.

But Natalie isn’t the only monster around New York City. And to help each monster blend in and stay unnoticed, they get together in a support group who meet in the basement of a church. Just like any other support group in New York City.

This is how we meet all the characters of our eclectic cast. Despite some of the problems I had reading this story, I think it was the characters that held my attention most and kept me reading. I think besides Natalie, my favorite characters were Kai, the mummy, and Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. Ms. Petersen’s take on the split personalities of Jekyl and Hyde was fantastic. Especially as the story progressed.

Story / Tempo

Although I had a bit of trouble getting attached to this group of misfits during their first support group meeting, I hung in there because the story quickly evolved into a mystery. From that point on, the story picked up speed and kept up the decent pace all the way to the end. I can’t recall any frivolous scenes.

My main hangup with the story, and this may be because it was an ARC I read, is that this story is written in the third person and I often have a problem with this POV. Often times, third person sounds way too close to first person to me. When Ms. Petersen would have the narrator switch the character’s POV, I was lost for a few moments until I figured out whose mind the narrator was in.

Despite that little POV issue, the uniqueness of the story had me reading all the way to the end. Once there, I was surprised to find out that there is actually another Monstrosity coming out on July 29th, 2013!! I’m actually pretty excited for the next one, both to get back to see where Ms. Petersen takes her characters and to get some closure on a few loose ends Other Books in the Series:
About the Author:

Jesse?s life as a writer began when her husband made the brilliant observation that she was much happier writing than doing anything else. So she took the plunge and decided to do that full-time. After many years and many books in different sub-genres, she was bitten by the zombie bug (not a zombie, but the bug) and took off on a zany adventure into the world of Urban Fantasy. Soon zombies were not enough and now she is poised to take over the world with her not-so-normal paranormal stories which inject dark humor into uncommon circumstances.

When not coming up with stories about the weird and wonderful she lives in Tucson, AZ, with her high school sweetheart husband and two cats. She plays video games, hangs out with her favorite nephews, hikes in the beautiful mountains, watches wayyyyy too much reality TV (and some really good scripted TV), ponders all things geekish and madly scribbles notes on her next idea while she laughs at people who still have to shovel snow.

Oh and from time to time she even writes, which is still what she likes to do best. She loves chatting with fans of her stories and lovers of geeky things. She encourages you to contact her at the various places listed on this fabulous website (keep scrolling, you?ll see it).

About the book:

My kiss can kill.
I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that’s changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone’s soul?or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don’t?I hurt myself.

Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I’ll kill him. Then there’s another boy, one I can’t hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They’re both part of a team of angels and demons that’s joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I’ll be able to help Bishop?or if I’m just another part of the darkness he’s sworn to destroy?.

Wicked Kiss is the second and LAST book in Michelle Rowen’s Nightwatchers series. I had no clue! Going in, I was reading Wicked Kiss like it was just another book in a series. Boy was I surprised when it ended! And not knowing it was the last one, I think that made the “read” that much more great and “OH MY GOD!”

oh… um, sorry? I thought you knew… Well, it’s still a great book that ties up those nasty loose ends we were left with last time. And I think Michelle Rowen even read my review of Dark Kiss because she took my advice and completely upped Samantha’s snarkiness and sold me on the bad-girl-gone-straight persona she was going for in Dark Kiss. Who am I kidding?!?! Ms. Rowen would NEVER have read my review, but she did address every little hang up I had last time around. But we’re not here to discuss that book. We’re here to talk about Bishop and Sam!!

Characters

Wicked Kiss picks right up after the tragic ending of Dark Kiss. It’d been a while since I read Dark Kiss so I was glad that Ms. Rowen re-capped during the first few chapters. Samantha is still without her soul so she’s out looking for Stephen, who hopefully still has it. It’s great to see Sam taking charge of her life! She’s not going to sit around waiting for Bishop to fix her life for her! And boy do I love her snark and come-backs! It’s ON and it’s set at 11!! Niiiiice! Especially with side characters playing bigger roles this time around. Sam dishing tons of sass to Kraven again but he’s causing new trouble this time. And a total surprise for me was how much I ended up liking Sam’s nemesis, Jordan.

Bishop is the same brooding, quiet warrior as before. But unfortunately for him, Sam has ways of finding out about his past. Amazing stuff there! What a messed up past he and Kraven had. I’ll just leave it at that.

Story / Tempo

What I enjoy most about Michelle Rowen’s writing is the pace she keeps her story going at. She can write some good urban fantasy (and she’s written enough of it!) She does it quick, clean, and well thought through. Not only does Ms. Rowen manage to ramp up the story by adding more obstacles in Sam’s quest to get her soul back from Stephen, but she also adds twists and that most awesome, “bet you didn’t see that coming!!”. Yep, I loved that moment! I’d like to say I sort of saw it coming, but I gotta be honest… wow, didn’t see it! A lot of reviewers I read said that this book was predictable so take my reaction with a grain of salt, I guess. Apparently I’m only a 40Watt bulb – you know, not so bright?

Best part of the book, though… the ending. Having not known the book was the last book in the “series”, I was completely thrown out of the rollercoaster car only to be able to climb back in after the last loop. Phew, that was close! Loved the closing scene!!

Ms. Rowen could write more books in the series but she’s so busy with other books and she hasn’t been contracted for any more so I guess that’ll do it for Sam and Bishop. *sniff, sniff* Oh, what about Kraven?!?! *sob!!* There’s a really great blog post about the series and this book in particular at Michelle Rowen’s website (click HERE)! While at her site, you can also read chapters 1 and 2.
Good Morning Clean Sweep Challenge Peeps!!

I’m hosting this morning’s challenge and I challenge you to take a break from reading all those ARCs and do a quick jigsaw puzzle. Each puzzle is an ARC that I’ve trolled NetGalley and Edelweiss for. I looked for the popular ARCs. And if you follow me on Goodreads, I just added these to my TBR. I just gave you TWO hints so I don’t think I could have made this easier (until you see my note at the bottom).

You can do one puzzle, you can do two, it’s entirely up to you. You can even just guess on the covers, I don’t care! The more you puzzles you complete, the more chances you have to win a $15 gift card to Amazon, Barnes and Noble, OR a book of your choice from The Book Depository valued $15 or less. Just fill out your answers in the Rafflecopter. No commenting necessary! You don’t want to give away all the answers, do you? Contest runs from Saturday, May 11th at 9am until Sunday night, May 12th at midnight.

Puzzle #1 – Book releases on August 15th, 2013

About the book:

Dead Ever After marked the end of the Sookie Stackhouse novels?a series that garnered millions of fans and spawned the hit HBO television show True Blood. It also stoked a hunger that will never die?a hunger to know what happened next.

With characters arranged alphabetically?from the Ancient Pythoness to Bethany Zanelli?bestselling author Charlaine Harris takes fans into the future of their favorite residents of Bon Temps and environs. You?ll learn how Michele and Jason?s marriage fared, what happened to Sookie?s cousin Hunter, and whether Tara and JB?s twins grew up to be solid citizens.

This coda provides the answers to your lingering questions?including details of Sookie?s own happily-ever-after?

The book will feature extensive interior art by acclaimed Sookie artist Lisa Desimini, including a Sookieverse Alphabet, color endpapers, and several full-page black and white interior illustrations.

Why am I waiting?

No, I don’t have my copy of Dead Ever After yet. I’m just waiting until I get to Target. But I was trolling Amazon and I stumbled on this book. Did I love the last few Sookie books? Eh, not so much the direction they took. But do I still read them? Hell, yeah! I’m invested in Sookie and I love her voice!

Everyone stop picking on Ms. Harris – if you don’t like the books, just don’t read them and move on. Me? I’ll go live in Sookie’s world as much as I can and tell you all about it.
