However, you can’t directly split Ethernet connection from a single cable. You must have two connection from a router to do so. For example, let’s say you have a modem which has 1 Ethernet port. In order to split the internet connection from the modem, you use a splitter in the end of you Ethernet cable that split the connection into two computers. That will not work at all. In this case, there will be one port that works properly.

Why it doesn’t work? First, it is because Ethernet splitter doesn’t act like a router, hub or switch. You still need router, hub or switch when using this splitter. Second, this LAN Splitter only works if used in pair. So, you have to buy a pair of splitter. One is used on you hub or switch. Another one is used to connect your computers. The Models
There are two models of Ethernet splitter that actually available on the market. Both of them have the same functions. Only their appearance which are different. Those two model is:

1. The splitter which has 2 RJ-45 female ports and a cable with RJ-45 Male connector pre-installed. This is typically used whenever the Ethernet cable installation has a wall outlet.
2. The second model is the splitter which has 3 RJ-45 female ports. This is usually used whenever the Ethernet cable installation doesn’t has a wall outlet. Each points of the Ethernet cable uses RJ-45 Male connector.

Where Can I buy Ethernet Splitter?
Ethernet splitter is almost available in every computer or network parts shop. But, if you gonna buy it online, you can visit Amazon.com. There are a lot of this device available on that site. The price started form $2 for a single Ethernet splitter.

Is There any Possibility to Create an Ethernet Splitter
Yes. You can create your own Ethernet Splitter. There is a tutorial that I have found about how to create an Ethernet splitter. You need to prepare the several things, like two RJ45 Jack, four RJ-45 keystone jack, Ethernet Cable (approximately 2 feet), RJ45 Crimp Tool, Craft knife, 110 Punch Down Tool, and Glue. How to Use Ethernet Splitters?

It is very easy to use Ethernet splitter. It likes connect your network devices to the Hub or Switch. All you need is a pair of Splitters and 4 pieces of Ethernet cables. Make sure you already have the previous Ethernet cable installed behind your wall or the other places. Follow these steps to use Ethernet splitter:

1. Connect the first splitter to network device at the primary juncture. This device might be Hub, Switch or Router. Make sure there are to ports available on those device since we need to connect the splitter using two cables.
2. Once the splitter connected to the Hub, connect the cable at another side of Ethernet splitter to your wall mount point or to your current cable installation.
3. Next, go on the second splitter. Connect it to the other side of cable installation.
4. Last, connect the splitter to your laptop, pc, or other network devices using the rest two Ethernet cable that you have prepared before.

Since a picture means thousand words, you can see the previous image to learn the Ethernet splitter installation diagram.
The next thing you should do is perform some test to make sure the splitter installed correctly. Ping the other computer using Ping Command. Click on Start Menu » Run . Type this command on the Run input Ping [IP address to Ping]. Replace [IP address to Ping] with the IP address of the computer that you want to ping, for example 192.168.0.1. So the command should be Ping 192.168.0.1 and hit Enter.

If the ping result reply from the computer pinged, it means everything is installed correctly. If it is not, check you installation once again. Make sure your cable is still OK.
