PORTLAND, OR – November 9, 2006 - Rob Gamble, creator and host of a podcast on mentorship called myPodMentor at www.mypodmentor.com, put his words into practice by offering to be a musical mentor to another podcaster.

As a regular listener to Short Cummings Audio (a weekly humor essay Podcast) Rob Gamble noted that the shows musical background was simplistic and repetitive.

"Having a musical background, I really enjoyed the blues riffs Kevin had chosen, except it was all in the same key”, says Rob. “So we took his great loops, played with some musical ideas, and put a simple blues chord progression to it. Next thing we knew, we had a great little tune we call The Short Cummings."

Cummings’ response was prompt and enthusiastic. "I was thrilled," he said. "I really respect Rob and his show and it was great of him to offer help"

Although they live in different states — Oregon and Utah respectively — the same technology which allows them to create podcasts allowed them to collaborate. The pair exchanged ideas and files over the internet until Rob Gamble was able to craft a richer and more sophisticated mix of Cummings’ original music.

"I was just blown away," Cummings said. "I’m not a musician and I had no idea how much variation was possible. Even though we only worked on this a little while, I learned a lot."

“It was a fun learning experience for both Kevin and I”, Rob concluded.

The new music will premier on November 18, 2006 on a Short Cummings Audio episode entitled "Scheduling Difficulties". It can be found on-line at www.shortcummingsaudio.com. Both programs are available for free on-line and through the iTunes Music Store.

Do you hate upgrades as much as I do?

We’ve been working on upgading our WordPress Blog to the latest version this weekend.  Is it just me?  Or does upgrades tend to create even more bugs?  Well, we’ve got a few that we’ve been working out over the weekend.

We also went through a Server upgrade on the backend… but that went completely un-noticed with absolutely no problems.

I think we’ve got most of them fixed that we can.  Almost all of the bugs looks like it has something to do with IE6… hmmm.  Anyway, I apologize for any inconvenience and you may see a few more hiccups through the rest of the day as we continue to test everything.  Should be smooth sailing by Monday morning with a more stable site.

Mentoring generally falls into three types.

Our web site Welcome Greeting is the second audio addition to the podcast.  I learned from several great podcasts, whom I’ll give credit to in the first episode, that it is a smart idea to make your Promo the first enclosure to your RSS feed.  Some aggregators have a preview podcast feature, which by default, will grab the oldest enclosure in your feed.  If your Promo is the first episode, then it will be the oldest and in theory the audio file that is played.

I have always felt, in my professional opinion, that and audio Welcome Greeting will help make a web site sticky.  I mean think about it.  A good web site will have some where a place that offers first time visitors an over view, or FAQ, on how to use, navigate, and interact with the web site.  So why not offer that in audio as well?  Duh!

So the first two audio episodes are designed to promote and educate new listeners to myPodMentor.com.  Hopefully this will create more excitement about the myPodMentor Podcast, and increase our subscribers.  So the first official Topic Episode is next, and is titled Why a Podcast about Mentoring?  I’m very excited about publishing this episode.  Stay tuned… it’s coming soon.

We are very excited to unveil the myPodMentor Podcast Album Cover.  It’s amazing to me how far this project has come, and we still have so much more to come.  The next addition to the Podcast will be a remake of the Welcome Greeting.  In fact, I will be recording it after I post this entry.  Over the Fourth of July weekend I plan on recording at least the first episode titled Why a Podcast about Mentoring?  With a little luck, my goal is to also record the second episode.  So thanks for your patience and support… the episodes are coming very soon.

After weeks in the making, learning how to become a Pod Jockey (PJ for short), and many out takes, we now have a Promo. In my learning about Podcasting, I now know why they say “Never promote your first 4-5 podcasts”. Well I’m happy to say, I’m beyond that phase in my Podcasting journey. It also means that the myPodMentor Podcast is right around the corner. In fact, look for the RSS Feed sometime this week.

The day has finally come.  We go to work today.  I started this project on 7 Apr 06 from an idea created by myself and two colleagues, Jim and Mike.  I want to personally thank each of them for their ideas, questions, and most of all, your support.

“So what is myPodMentor.com about?”  I am asked that question every time I tell someone about the site.  In short, it’s a web site and podcast about Mentoring.  The next question is often “What are you going to talk about?”  Well, everything “Mentoring” and much more.  Our Master Mind of Mentors and I are going to cover the history of Mentorship, how to find a Mentor, the Mentor Relationship, Do’s and Don’t of Mentoring, etc.  We are also going to talk a lot about Success to include tips, suggestions, and techniques.  Check out this list of upcoming topics:

I’ve shared the site and our project with several people who have been watching a waiting for this day. Well, here we are, so let’s get it going now.

First, you will want to subscribe to the blog. To do that, simply click on the Blog Subscription button powered by Feed Burner… or click here. When you do, a new browser window will open to our Feed Burner Syndication Site where you will have several Blog Reader options to choose from. Simply click on the button for you favorite reader. If you don’t have one, I will be posting a future article soon with my Feed Reader recommendations and instructions to get setup.

Finally, add a comment and interact with the blog posts. To do that, just click on the “Add Comment” link in the footer bar of every post. From there, it’s pretty intuitive. The first person who subscribes and adds a comment stating “I’m the first subscriber!” will be our first “Official Subscriber”.
