All you need to do is add the following in your .htaccess:

RewriteEngine on
# Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} proxy\.org [NC]
RewriteRule .* - [F]

For other sites, just replace proxy\.org with your chosen site, adding a \ before the . in the URL.

To ban country specific traffic, which often has low PPC, do this:

Open up .htacces and add this:

order allow,deny
deny from 65.19.146.2 220.248.0.0/14
allow from all

Now you will need to find the latest country specific IP block ranges from http://www.wizcrafts.net/iptables-blocklists.html  just edit the IP numbers in the code.

There is a mod for phproxy on the net that allows youtube to work correctly but I strongly recommend that you do not install it. Furthermore, disabling YouTube in Glype and CGI is definitely something I would recommend.

There are several reasons for this, firstly, allowing Youtube will increase your bandwidth requirements by around 5 times!! You may think that this is down to a huge increase in users on your site but in fact it is just that viewing YouTube vids requires a lot of bandwidth. 10 GB in YouTube bandwidth could be less than 70 people accessing your site. This will not cause a large increase in revenue, even if you assume that all of these people click on one ad each!

The cost of paying for the extra bandwidth is greatly more than the increase (if any) in revenue.

This is one of those occassions where the benefit to users out weighs the economical benefit to you - and we all know the reason we’re in the proxy business! Money, Money, Money!

Once you start receicing bulk traffic to your proxy’s you will not be able to cope with just shared hosting. Often you will need to move up to a VPS (VDS) or a Dedicated Server. There are many providers of both these options so I won’t go through them here but choosing the spec for the server can be difficult.

The first thing one needs to do is to consider which proxy script you will be using. For this post I will consider the 4 main proxy scripts; Glype, CGI, PHP & Zelune.

Glype

The one thing Glype requires is a lot of CPU speed. If you are getting a dedicated this shouldn’t be an issue but for VPS’s you need to make sure you have at least 1 GHz of CPU or your proxy will be really slow. RAM and Bandwidth are not as important with glype so any spec here should be ok.

CGI

CGI proxy is a resource hog! There is no other way to put it. You need at least a dedicated server with a good CPU and a fair amount of RAM to run a fast CGI proxy network. Bandwidth is not highly important for CGI.

PHP

PHP uses a lot of bandwidth and though there are bandwidth mods for phproxy it is still necessary to make sure you have lots set aside. I would reccommend at least 250 GB per month. RAM can also be an issue with PHP but as long as you have over 512MB you shouldn’t have an issue. CPU speed is not relevant really.

Zelune

Zelune is by far the most resource friendly proxy. It will run with virtually any server with no problems. The reason it hasn’t taken over the world is the lack of support for major websites like youtube.

So, when renting your servers make sure you get the best financial deal but also that the server matches the proxy script.

I also received 7 new sign ups to my Yahoo Group.

To be honest, I was expecting more because the group has so many members. However, the price is very good and is much cheaper than most other services. I only made a small loss on the investment and the results are probably better than last week (addvertise.info).

Overall, a quick and very cheap traffic boost which nearly broke even with the income from adsense against the cost of the service.

Addvertise.info

I have used addvertise.info in the past to promote many of my proxy’s. The owner sends out new proxy’s to his yahoo group on a daily basis (over 15000 members). There are 3 service levels available: Bronze - $15 for one proxy url, Silver - $20 for 2 proxy url’s plus 2 hour gap between any other emails & Gold - $25 for 4 proxy url’s plus 4 hour gap between any other emails.

I chose the Silver option for my two proxy’s. The good thing about addvertise.info is that the owner will check your domains through various filters to make sure they are not blocked. This avoids him sending out bad proxy’s and you wasting your money.

Total Expenditure: $20

Adsense Income: $5.54 (both proxy’s)

Traffic: 1600 visitors (3 days after day of newsletter)

On top of the traffic and adsense hits I also received  around 35 sign ups to my Yahoo group.

All in all you could look bluntly at these stats and say I made a loss of $14. However, the sign ups to my yahoo group are invaluable and one must remember that the newsletter was going to experienced proxy users who are aware of what ads look like. Furthermore, I did not take into account the income from adbrite on the proxified pages.

Overall, I would say that this newsletter is expensive but is effective in giving a quick traffic boost. The owner is very helpful in answering questions and the service is delivered quickly.
