Do you like Jules Verne? Did you enjoy the recent films, “Journey to The Center of the Earth”, with Brendan Fraser or “Journey 2″, with “The Rock”? If you did you will most likely enjoy this film.

My wife and I decided to give it a look and were impressed by this movie. Full of lots of drama, action, well placed moments of humor, and even a love story, Island at the Top of the World is a great family friendly film.

In turn of the century England a rich aristocrat Sir Ross brings together an unsuspecting team to help him track down his son who went missing searching for the fabled city where legend says the whales go to die.

With Professor Ivarsson the explorer and Captain Brieux the inventor of the amazing airship “Hyperion”, the trio set out for the North Pole area in search for Sir Ross’s son Donald. Along the way they pick up an even more reluctant Eskimo guide to help in the search.

Is there an Island on top of the world where whales go to die? Is it real or just myth? Watch and see! You will enjoy this Academy Award nominated film. God bless!

In the Steps of Moses is a very interesting video that tells of the life of Moses, from the time that his mother put him in the basket in the Nile River till the time he died on Mt. Nebo.
 
It is shot on-site where the actual events occurred, or in nearby places which are representative of the actual locations.
 
The video gives lots of detail and information, so you will learn a lot from watching it.
 
There were two things of particular interest:  The host mentioned that the famous Egyptian named Im-Hotep was likely Joseph the son of Jacob; and the place where Israel likely crossed the Red Sea has what appear to be chariot wheels at the bottom of the sea!

I just saw a very interesting and informative video called The Great Awakening.
 
When the Pilgrims first came to America, they brought Christianity with them.  However, over time, as the country prospered, the people of America seemed to forget about God.  In fact, many churches didn’t even require their ministers to be converted!
 
God raised up men like Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield to preach the true gospel, and to emphasize the need for the new birth.  Revival took hold and spread in America.
 
I highly recommend this video if you want to learn about how God has moved in America in history.  You can find it in the Video on Demand movies section, under Vision Video.

For a long time I have had one Sky Angel box in my house connected to all TVs via coax cable and converters. I even had a special device that went with my remote control, which allowed me to control my Sky Angel box from another room. However, this resulted in poor picture quality, and also the remote control of the box had a slow response.

Today I changed all of that. I connected my Sky Angel box to the one TV that I watch the most. I took the special device out of my remote control, and set it up in the standard way.

Amazingly, my picture quality is a lot better, and the response with the remote control is quicker!

This ongoing headache is finally resolved!

I just saw a great little video called The Forgotten Martyr: Lady Jane Grey.
 
Lady Jane Grey was once the Queen of England, but only for nine days.  She was the cousin of Mary Queen of Scots, who executed her for refusing to renounce her faith in Christ and accept Mary’s Catholic faith.
 
The setting of the video is that a young lady goes into a library and finds a book which tells the story of Lady Jane Grey.  The part we see is the last day of Lady Jane’s life, her passion for the soul of her best friend, and her joy in and faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ.
 
The video is short, only 15 minutes. Best of all, it’s free!

Here is an original idea that caught my attention: When you blend a cooking show making classic dishes in a historical setting and throw in a history lesson as well, you get: “A Taste of history” with Chef Walter Staib on one of Sky Angel’s newer channels… RLTV.  Chef Walter actually takes you inside some pretty amazing historical sites like Monticello, Montpelier, Mount Vernon, and the Harriton House, and he cooks up some pretty amazing dishes.  He uses fresh from the garden vegetables and uses traditional methods like cooking big chunks of beef over an open fire and processing everything up by hand. It’s like visiting Jefferson’s Monticello, and you get to walk through his gardens and even cook in his kitchen!  It is a great touch adding in a little bit of history including reenactments as well!

The Fairytopia trilogy is at an end! This is my final review! Some may be thankful! I watched this awhile ago with my girls and again I was pleased.

Like the first two movies this a is a fun family friendly story with Barbie displaying a humble,  virtuous, dedicated, and selfless character.

The evil fairy Laverna has plotted to bring 10 years of winter to Fairyland and Barbie must stop her.

Barbie and her other fairy colleagues are at fairy school to work together to create the first rainbow of spring as a graduation of sorts. However a graduation that if failed will harm Springtime for a decade!

Add to that the fact tat little silly Bibble the puffball gets a crush on another puffball and their innocent and funny romance comes out in this film adds to the fun.

Like usual a good fun film for little girls and their parents who watch it with them. God bless and enjoy!

I was thinking this weekend about what I might share here on the Sky Angel blog. I have been “extra busy” recently making upgrades in my home and editing a book–it’s ’bout all this ol’ senior citizen can manage just keeping up with the demands of each day!

But that doesn’t mean I’m not thoroughly enjoying Sky Angel programming! It’s my reliable, uplifting 24/7 companion. I always know that I’ll be able to turn to my favorite ministry teaching programs every day, listen to Christian radio through the night, catch all the Gaither Homecoming concerts, listen to the “Pulpit Classics” on the Liberty Channel, be blessed by many testimonies of God’s transforming work in others’ lives as they are shared on various programs, and enjoy so many more blessings. After enjoying something on Sky Angel, I often reflect on the fact that it has a much greater and longer-lasting impact on me than most of the things I might choose to spend time watching on cable TV.

Now and then, as I enjoy the “same old, same old” programming, God gives me a wonderfully-unexpected surprise. One night, I was having trouble getting to sleep, so I got up to drink some Sleepytime tea. While I did that, I decided to start up the Sky Angel WebTV app on my iPad. (BTW, if you have an iPad, you MUST check out this great app–the picture quality and navigation are excellent!) Anyway, back to my story…I selected a “Pulpit Classics” program to watch in the wee hours of that sleepless night. I was astonished to see that it was an encore of a message that has significant meaning to me. I shouted a “Hallelujah!” that only God and I heard…

In the mid 70s, I was a relatively new Christian, but my husband, Trent, was not yet a believer. One Sunday as I watched an “Old Time Gospel Hour” broadcast, Trent stopped to watch and listen. God used that message to lead my husband to a decision to become a Christian. What a special gift it was for the Lord to allow me to hear that message once again and rejoice in the memory of how it had impacted my family many years ago! As it turned out that night, watching Sky Angel was not “same old, same old” at all!

So I’m not sharing a movie review today or urging you not to miss a particular program. I’m simply telling you that the “same old, same old” 24/7 presence of Sky Angel in my days is a great blessing! If you have not checked out Sky Angel yet, let me urge you to do so! You’ll be blessed, too!!

Let me just say right off the bat. I was so blessed to watch this short film! In 35 minutes you will get a moving and powerful overview of the Great Awakening of this country in the early to mid 1700’s.

Upon seeing the title I knew I would see heroes of mine like Whitefield and Edwards. However, I also learned of so many more vital people in the history of God’s work in this country!

At times I even felt tears coming up hearing the testimony of the power of God and His word to save sinners and awake a nation in the sleep of spiritual death! What a tragic condition we were in before we even became America!

We sometimes lose perspective and think we’ve never been in the type of spiritual decline we see today. However, watching this film will show you we have been at dismal lows in our very beginnings and God in His grace awoke and saved a birthing nation! He can do so again today! My friends, pray that the Lord of the harvest would once again send His Spirit to revive our dead nation and save many for His glory!

Watch this great film, share it with friends, and train up your children as well. God bless and enjoy!

I really enjoyed the intimate  portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in the new Spielberg movie, “Lincoln”  The movie only covered about a four month period up to his untimely death, and I was especially fascinated with his interaction with his family in this detailed account.  I did not realize that his oldest son enlisted in the Union Army without the approval of mom or dad, and the younger child apparently could roam the White House at free will visiting Abe, and at times while he was in a meeting! What I liked most though was Lincoln’s portrayal as a gentle but firm spirit; he was bold but not over-bearing and was a mastermind at overcoming obstacles. His speeches were truly amazing… I love this quote from the movie,

“I could write shorter sermons but when I get started I’m too lazy to stop.”

It’s an excellent portrayal of the one the best presidents this nation has ever had! You can find “Lincoln” in Sky Angel’s VOD section.
