One of racing’s biggest days is marred by tragedy after the only filly in the field collapses following a second-place finish.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For the second time in a little more than six months, the worst part of horse racing was displayed on a major stage.

Eight Belles, the first filly to run in the Kentucky Derby since 1999, was put down on the track shortly after finishing second Saturday in the 134th running of the Run for the Roses.

I don’t really follow the horse races or anything. Too broke to even bet on a horse at a race… but felt bad to here about Eight Belles tragedy. My condolences to the horse trainer. I even heard that Eight Belle and the team won three years in a row? Damn… R.I.P. Eight Belle.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) walked away from its bid to buy Yahoo Inc (YHOO.O) on Saturday after the Internet company turned down its offer to raise the price by $5 billion to $47.5 billion.

Microsoft’s offer was for $33 a share but Yahoo would not lower its demand below $37, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said. The software company initially bid $31 per share for Yahoo more than three months ago.

Wife who cried rape when caught with lover is convicted

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A Texas woman who caused her lover’s shooting death by falsely crying rape was convicted Friday of involuntary manslaughter.

Tracy Denise Roberson, 37, cried a bit when the verdict was announced. The punishment phase was set for Monday, and she faces two to 20 years in prison.

In late 2006, Darrell Roberson came home from a late-night card game to find his scantily clad wife with another man in a pickup truck in the driveway. Tracy Roberson was with her lover but cried rape, and her husband fired four shots into the truck as Devin LaSalle drove off, killing him.

Darrell Roberson initially was arrested, but a murder charge was later dropped and a grand jury indicted Tracy Roberson instead.

During her three-day trial, defense attorneys called no witnesses but blamed LaSalle’s death on Darrell Roberson’s jealousy and rage.

But prosecutors placed all the blame on Tracy Roberson, showing evidence of the affair with LaSalle, 32, and a text message in which she invited him to her house that evening.
