If you watch this trailer with any expectations of great filmmaking then you should truly pluck out your own eyes.   The always underrated Udo Kier plays your Moon Fuhrer which just in title reeks of awesome . Definitely shades of Mars Attacks make this film a must see with some friends for a few laughs. Iron Sky is in theaters via limited release but will hopefully hit on demand and home video soon.

As a fan of combat sports I relish in the mainstream coverage it has been getting but as a New Yorker it pains me to not see MMA sanctioned and represented at MSG. “Muay Thai at the Mecca”, the biggest event ever sanctioned by the WKA in New York, will feature an explosive fight card including the best professional and amateur Muay Thai fighters and two WKA Title fights. The Finals of the 8-man “Rising Stars” Lightweight Tournament will feature Andrilo Juarez (3–0; American Killer Bees) vs. Freddy Cheung (2–1; Sitan NY) and Prairie Rugilo (3–1, 1KO, Girl Fight MMA), the only amateur female to ever score a KO in the TaKe On ring will face the very tough Angie Babel (3–0, Five Points Academy).

One of the most anticipated fights of 2012 will headline the 24 bout card when Rigel “Cool Heart” Balsamico (Cool Hearts Muay Thai) takes on UFC veteran Ryan “The Lion” Madigan (Evolve MMA). Balsamico, a native of Ireland, is a veteran of 30 professional Muay Thai fights (24–6, 11 KO’s). He lived, trained, and fought out of Thailand for many years before coming back to the United States to open his Muay Thai gym in Philadelphia.  Madigan is a seasoned combat sports veteran with UFC experience, having fought at UFC 96 in 2009. Now focusing his professional career on Muay Thai kickboxing, he holds a professional record of 26–6.

He is also a sparring partner for WBA/IBF/WBO Heavyweight Boxing Champion Wladimir Klitschko and K-1 superstar Jerome LeBanner. Miller is set to face WKA Amateur Heavyweight Champion Brian Collette (14–0 Amateur Muay Thai) from Eastern Academy in Norfolk, Virginia. Sean Hinds (16–5, Mushin MMA) trains at Mushin gym alongside UFC Fighters Georges St-Pierre and John Cholish, and pro MMA fighter Erik Owings.

I know I was not alone in feeling a great big “WTF” with regard to the first half of The Walking Dead’s second season. The premiere saw the loss of the little girl Sofia and the entire seven episode run was spent looking for a girl that turned out to be a zombie. It could have been because readers of the comic know the girl is alive and (physically) OK or it could be the simple fact that the seven episodes were just rather boring. I don’t know the filming schedule of the show, but I hope during the break the makers of the show were checking out the feedback from viewers.

Watching the mid-season premiere, I thought that maybe the creators ignored the fans. The episode plodded along as bodies were buried and burned and Dale and Shane continue to butt heads. And then it happened. Not to spoil anything for the DVR/TiVo fans, but I have four words for you:

“I’M RICK GRIMES, BITCH!”

Yeah, Andrew Lincoln put it down. He captured the essence of the comic book Rick Grimes once again and personally, he re-ignited my hopes for this series. Tune in people, ‘cause shit just got real again.

The Bourne Legacy aka Matt Damon was busy but the world needs more Bourne actually has the makings of a solid entry for the series. Jeremy Renner did a great job in MI:4 so I know he is up to the task of filling Damon shoes. I like that Renner’s character is someone new which allows for the possibility of him and Bourne crossing paths in the event Matt Damon decides to reprise the role. It would only be fitting that our last live show would go out with a bang. That bang was provided by none other than former WCW Heavyweight & WWE Tag Team Champion Diamond Dallas Page.  Since his departure from the squared circle DDP has become a successful entrepreneur with his Yoga For Regular Guys program which has since evolved to DDP Yoga. DDP embraced the benefits of yoga as rehabilitation for a neck injury suffered during his time in WCW. He shared with us his apprehension at embracing yoga but after a few sessions he realized that it was beneficial in making him heal without the rigors of rehabilitation. DDP took traditional yoga and evolved it into a hybrid training regimen that utilizes dynamic resistance , active breathing techniques and power movements. The beauty of this style of yoga is that it is non impact and works on not only increasing flexibility but also promoting fat loss and lean muscle growth. DDP Yoga has made DDP a flexible and healthy athlete at 55 years old and while his results are to be expected as the creator of the program the individual in this video is a true testament to its effectiveness.

As you can see in this video Arthur Boorman had an amazing transformation due to DDP Yoga. DDP Yoga practioners are not only regular folks but also some of DDP’s pro wrestling peers. My Take:

We have all watched various spy thrillers where the villains aren’t as villainous as they seem, but in his U.S. directorial debut, Director Daniel Espinosa brings a few new tricks to the table. After seeing this film, we had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Espinosa, and throughout the interview you could see how excited he was to work with such outstanding talent. Denzel Washington returned to the “dark hero” persona previously seen in “Man on Fire” and it added a level of controlled violence to the Tobin Frost character. Denzel joins a list of older established actors dipping their toes into the action genre. His chemistry with Ryan Reynolds was natural and worked extremely well. Mr. Espinosa stated in the interview that one of the key moments in the film was completely ad-libbed by Washington and Reynolds. One thing I particularly liked was the wealth of great acting talent that supported Denzel and Ryan throughout the film. Acting veterans such as Vera Farmiga, Sam Shepard and Brendan Gleeson added not only excellent dialogue but actually made you want to know more about their characters and their agendas. One actor whose work I always enjoy is Ruben Blades, who seems to always bring his A-game even when cast in smaller roles. The director stated in the interview that Ruben Blades’ character was based on his father. During an exchange between Blades and Washington, you can really see the fatherly tone on display and while it was subtle, it succeeded in humanizing Frost amidst all the carnage left in his wake. Ryan Reynolds also stepped up his game and displayed excellent versatility in his role as Weston (No relation to Michael Weston, Burn Notice fans) showing not only genuine emotion but also an excellent transformation from sheep to wolf .

I gained a newfound appreciation for Denzel Washington after the hearing all the great things Daniel Espinosa said about him during our interview. Any man who volunteers to for waterboarding to maintain the integrity of a scene is a true master of his craft.

Safe House is an exhilarating film from start to finish and I highly recommend you check it out. Not only will you see a new facet of Ryan Reynolds’ acting but you will be treated to a very memorable performance from Denzel Washington. If you enjoyed “Man on Fire “and “Training Day” you will certainly appreciate and enjoy “Safe House”.

Thanks to our friends over at Konsole Kingz, My Take Radio had the privilege to sit through an advanced screening of the Daniel Espinosa–directed, David Guggenheim-written thriller “Safe House” starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds – and boy, did it not disappoint. As the tagline said, no one was safe.

In case you live in a box and haven’t seen the trailer for the movie, which is in theatres today, here’s the synopsis: Tobin Frost (Washington) is a rogue top-notch CIA operative that has eluded capture for over a decade for crimes against his country, such as selling secrets and betraying assets. Matt Weston (Reynolds) is a CIA “housekeeper” stationed at an inactive safe house in Cape Town, South Africa. Frustrated with his boring post, he hopes to someday get out of the safe house and into a case worker position, but so far his inexperience in the field has him staying put.

Now, Frost is surprisingly out of hiding and back on the grid with a file containing a laundry list of crooked government officials – a file sure to send the world into a tailspin. Unfortunately, he never gets to find a buyer for the intel before having to flee from a group trying to kill him in order to take the file. In a desperate act, he walks right into the U.S. Embassy in Cape Town and turns himself in.  Frost gets transferred to, lo and behold, that very same safe house that Weston gets so tired of watching. The safe house ends up being compromised, and Matt must keep Frost safe and in custody per his CIA orders. This, as you can imagine, does not go as planned. Once Frost is brought in for debriefing, the same lethal mercenaries after him break into the safe house and murder everyone inside, except Frost and Weston, who barely escape.

On the run, they must discover who their attackers were sent by — terrorists or CIA. Frost knows that answer, and provides the initial doubt in Weston’s head about his beloved CIA, shaking his morality and belief in his agency. However, he still wants to prove himself, Weston’s job is still to get Frost to the next safe house, but along the way, he must decide who he can really trust.

Washington and Reynolds had a fantastic chemistry throughout the movie, as did the rest of the cast. I am a big fan of Ryan Reynolds, and his emotions throughout the movie were palpable and well-timed. It really seemed like he was ready to cry the whole time. Ryan Reynolds really is an actor with tremendous range, and I commend him for taking this role. I don’t think there has been a movie of his I haven’t liked, and I don’t think I would have liked anyone else in the Matt Weston role.  Denzel, well, he’s Denzel after all, so of course he was excellent. I just wish he didn’t get shot so much (we watched “Man on Fire” a few weeks ago, so it’s still fresh). “Safe House” was a very physical film for both of these men. Reynolds told People that he accidentally gave Washington his very first black eye during filming of the car fight scene when Frost gets out of the trunk Weston locked him in. I am not surprised, as it was a great scene to watch. Both men went all in to make it look authentic and most of all, painful. I had a lot of “ouch” moments watching the movie.

To coincide with the screening, we also had the pleasure of attending a meet and greet with the film’s director Daniel Espinosa, getting to learn a little about his directing style (no green screens EVER) and thought process while directing this film. What I enjoyed the most was that Espinosa brings gritty camera style in direct contact with the action, taking us as viewers into the scene. The car chases were explosive and extremely fast-paced. All of the fights were close-range and masterfully shot, something that he takes pride in doing. Daniel said he “directs films as he would want to watch them”, and he definitely gets that point across in “Safe House”. The crowd was immersed in what was happening every second of the film.

Espinosa had nothing short of praise for his cast, especially Denzel Washington, saying “he has never seen anyone that works harder in the business”. When Rich asked about a particularly shocking scene in which Washington is water boarded by CIA operatives, we learned that he actually was water boarded. No stuntman, no tricky camera work. Now that’s what I call dedication to your craft, Mr.Washington. Bravo.

All in all, I definitely recommend seeing this movie – and please do so on the big-screen. Allow yourself to be immersed in the feel of this non-stop thriller and you won’t be disappointed.

The new re-imagining of Spider-Man got unveiled to the world in all its glory this week and there is a small portion of my soul that doesn’t totally loathe it. While I feel that Andrew Garfield and his giraffe neck are not my choice for Peter Parker I do have to respect the impressive visuals displayed in this trailer. We get to see some great action sequences as well as glimpses of The Lizard which I am still not completely sold on. My gripe continues to be the constant reuse of the origin story to set the tone. We all know how Spider-Man became what he is and even if you are using the Ultimate Spider-Man origin you are still giving the audiences yet another origin story. July 3rd we’ll find out if the Amazing Spider-Man is a bigger draw then Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. What do you guys think of this new re-imagining? Share your comments below.

Denzel Washington stars as the dangerous ex-agent Tobin Frost in the upcoming movie, Safe House, in theatres this Friday, February 10th. Last week, MTR members Andrea and Rich had the opportunity to see the premiere of Safe House and I have heard nothing but positive things about the movie. We look forward to Rich’s review in the next few days. Universal is going hard wit h the promotion of the film and I am happy to say that they made a game for it. I know, you’re thinking “Slick is happy that there is a game for a movie?” The reason is that instead of doing a cash grab on the consoles, they decided to add to their hype machine. The Search For Tobin Frost is a web-based game in the same vein as Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? The difference is, of course, Carmen never killed people.

Like I said, this game is meant to hype the movie, nothing more. It features music and voices from the movie and you have roughly 96 hours to find Frost. You’d think that four days is a long time but most of your actions will deplete that clock with a minimum of minus one hour to as many as twelve. You will interview and possibly bribe informants to get closer to your target as you travel the world. You have to be careful though because you can only bribe thee people in a given game and you only have one lifeline back to HQ in Washington D.C.

Now this is a web-based game which means you are at a computer (duh!). If you cannot find Frost then you probably cannot pass an open book test either. Google is your friend here so the bribes are not always necessary. This game will be attractive to those who like to think a little bit as well as those who like free stuff. The game rewards you with movie clips not seen on TV and basically makes you really want to see Safe House, so whether you win or lose, I would call this “Mission Accomplished.”
