Zwiedzanie i ceny wakacji na Malcie

Wkrótce koniec lutego, a polska zima, jak dotąd, nie dała nam się zbytnio we znaki. Przynajmniej pod względem obfitych opadów śniegu (choć nie wiadomo jeszcze, jaki będzie tegoroczny marzec). Mimo łagodności tegorocznej zimy, większości z nas marzy się słoneczna pogoda, ciepła plaża, a może nawet palmy i atrakcyjne wakacje. Niewątpliwie podjęcie decyzji o spędzeniu wakacji na Malcie pomoże spełnić powyższe marzenia.

To, czy spędzimy wakacje na Malcie wspólnie z wybranym biurem podróży, czy też „na własną rękę” w dużej mierze zależy od umiejętności wyszukania sobie w Internecie taniego biletu na przelot, niedrogiego a wygodnego noclegu oraz przyzwoitej znajomości języka angielskiego, by czuć się w miarę swobodnie w obcym kraju podczas pobytu i zwiedzania. Osoby mniej samodzielne pod tym względem z pewnością wybiorą usługę biura podróży oraz opiekę pilota/rezydenta. Oczywiste jest, że za usługi trzeba płacić, więc jeśli nie trafi nam się oferta typu „last minute” , to pobyt nie będzie zbyt tani.

Przykładowo, 7 dniowy pobyt w trzygwiazdkowym hotelu (bez wyżywienia), w turystycznym mieście Qawra, na przełomie lutego i marca, połączony z przelotem z Gdańska, w jednym z biur podróży przed promocją wyceniono na 1160 zł od osoby, a po 24% obniżce na 899 zł (ale trzeba się szybko zdecydować).
Trzeba się jednak liczyć z faktem, że w okresie letnim ceny mogą być znacznie wyższe, a liczba turystów na Malcie dość uciążliwa. Właściwie zdecydowanie lepiej jest zaplanować sobie wakacje na Malcie poza sezonem, np. w październiku, kiedy jest znacznie spokojniej, a temperatura przyjemna jak na nasze przyzwyczajenia, bo w granicach 25-30 oC.

Gdyby powyższą cenę po obniżce, czyli 899 zł pomnożyć przez 3 osoby, to byłby to już wydatek rzędu 2700 zł (bez wyżywienia). Tymczasem można zaplanować z pewnym wyprzedzeniem niedrogi lot na przykład liniami Ryanair (informacje na stronie linii lotniczych). Za jedyne 196 zł można było kupić bilet na przelot w marcu z Warszawy na Maltę, stamtąd po kilku dniach do Rzymu, by na koniec wrócić do Warszawy. Chętni do wyszukiwania podobnych okazji mogą się np. zapisać na dedykowany newsletter tanich lotów na Maltę.

Internet pomaga również znaleźć tańsze lub droższe (w zależności od potrzeb i zasobów finansowych) noclegi na Malcie (i nie tylko tam). Pomogą w tym multiwyszukiwarki, np. Booking.com. W zależności od klasy noclegu ceny na Malcie wahają się np. od 40 euro za noc w 3 pokojowym apartamencie z aneksem kuchennym na wyspie Gozo (dane z października 2015) do 160 zł za noc w 3 osobowym pokoju z łazienką w hotelu (ze śniadaniem).

Samodzielny pobyt na Malcie jest o tyle ułatwiony, że łatwo jest tam się porozumieć po angielsku, a komunikacja miejska jest dobrze zorganizowana i ułatwia zwiedzanie. Za 2 euro można jechać kilkoma autobusami z przesiadkami przez 2 godziny. Można też wykupić za 21 euro 7- dniową „migawkę” na wszystkie dzienne i nocne linie. Dzieci do 4 lat jeżdżą za darmo.

Żywność na Malcie, szczególnie jeśli ma się możliwość przygotować własny posiłek np. w aneksie kuchennym, można kupić w cenach zbliżonych do tych w Polsce – są tam np. sieci sklepów Lidl. Natomiast bary i restauracje oferują potrawy w stylu włoskim i ceny europejskie. Przy czym owoce morza są zdecydowanie droższe niż dość popularne tam mięso z królika. Niedrogo, bo za pół euro, można kupić na ulicznych stoiskach popularne tam przekąski pastizzi (ciasto francuskie nadziewane serem ricotta lub czymś innym).

Oczywiście oprócz potrzeb bytowych nie można zapomnieć o innych atrakcjach Malty. Składają się na nie piękne przejrzyste morze, piaszczyste lub skaliste plaże a także zabytki. Z plaż warto odwiedzić Mellieha Bay i Tuffieha Bay. Koniecznie trzeba wybrać się na wyspę Gozo aby zobaczyć słynne Azure Window – okno w morzu utworzone przez skałę. Można też się skusić na wycieczkę na błękitną lagunę na wyspie Comino, czy rejs za 10 euro połączony ze zwiedzaniem jaskiń.

Z atrakcji stworzonych ręką człowieka warto odwiedzić dawną stolicę Malty Mdino – niewielkie miasteczko dla 400 mieszkańców, otoczone murami. Z kolei ze Sliemy można obejrzeć piękny widok na współczesną stolicę Valettę, zaś w stolicy godne polecenia są np. ogrody Barrakka Gardens. Samodzielne znalezienie informacji o kolejnych atrakcjach Malty (i okolic) w dobie Internetu nie jest wcale trudne. Niewątpliwie każdy znajdzie coś interesującego dla siebie stosownie do posiadanych możliwości finansowych .

National Achievers Congress London 2012: my summary

National Achievers Congress is a 3-day yearly event taking place in London, among other cities.
I attended the last one this October.

What attracted me to the event and what was special about it
Two names: Anthony Robbins and Donald Trump. Both incredible personalities, highly successful and action-risk-taking entrepreneurs.
Watching them live was exciting and very motivational!
I also valued Ron White's speech - he is called the memory guy. He was able to memorize and repeat a 50-digit number and say it backwards. His speech was funny and valuable.

NAC disadvantages

Unfortunately, there were more minuses than pluses of the event.

Customer service and ticketing system was highly inefficient. One had to call them several times and send emails to ask about tickets, which have been paid for and have not been sent. On the event's website it was clearly stated that the tickets would be send out 6 weeks prior to the event, which did not happen. It was also written that you have to print out the tickets otherwise, you won't be let in. It was also not true. Printed tickets were not required at the registration desks and the person details could have been easily checked in the database. What a waste of printed-paper!
It was a 3-day event but you didn't know who is going to speak and when. There wasn't any agenda given to the participants! You only knew that Tony Robbins and Donald Trump, also Lord Coe would be there. If you wanted to see them you had to sit and listen to, in many cases, boring and terrible speeches of unknown speakers, who tried to sold you their products. What a waste of time!
It would be different if the quality of majority and even all of the speakers was high value. Unfortunately, it didn't happen!
You pay and expect to be part of something great and worth the money spent - it didn't happen during the Congress. The only value were the speeches of Donald Trump, Tony Robbins, Lord Coe and Ron White.
One more thing, I paid for my ticket well in advance. Later on, closer to the event cheaper tickets have been released and many people were given free tickets (including me, I was given 2 extra free tickets).
What's more, during the congress, no matter how cheap or expensive your ticket was, you could easily go to VIP section and sit there.

My conclusion
Will I attend National Achievers Congress next year - YES, only if I get a free ticket.
Will I recommend the event to my friends - N. If they ask about my thoughts, I'll describe both advantages and disadvantages.

What are the pillars of successful business?

Great products and/or services.
Great customer service.
Good accountant to take care of taxes.
Good lawyer to advise on legal aspects of branding, secure transactions and selling.
Sufficient funding to operate the business without unnecessarily delays.

First four points will not work without the fifth one taken care of. To understand that, have a look at some of the modern biggest companies. For example Apple. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created first Apple computer in Job's family home garage. To grow and expand, to be able to sustain the business they had to look for funding options. During various stages of Apple's development, the company was funded by venture capitalists.

I gave this example to show you how important it is to have proper funding in place to keep your business running and to develop it. There are other ways to do it. You can borrow money from banks and among other options you can choose between secured and unsecured business loans.

Any funding method is good, providing that your business grows and brings more and more profit.

Creativity and business by Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs was one in its kind. What I mean by that is that he can't just be compared with anyone else. He breaks many patterns when we think of someone as a leader.

He saw things and people in 2 dimensions: they were either white or black. There weren't things in between.
In his eyes a person could have been either a genius or a total failure. Product or service could have been either perfect or total failure.

His approach to perfection and excellence in products he was creating made Apple the fastest growing innovative company.
Words: it can't be done, it's impossible, we can't do it, we can't improve it - didn't exist in his mind and vocabulary.

If you have any of the Apple's products you know what I mean when I write about perfection and excellence. These products:

not only look great (you are proud to have them),
they are easy to use (very intuitive)
they are high quality (made with good materials and advanced technology).

Staring your own business and being successful with it is a challenge. Apart from a good idea, you also need to know if what you want to offer is what actually others need. When this condition is met, you need to make sure that when the orders come, you have the proper payment and delivery system in place. Customers do not like to wait too long or to be forced to go through complicated procedures to finally order something.

If all that sounds very easy for you, you need also to realize that no matter the type of business: either traditional or internet one, you need funding to sustain the business growth.

We hear a lot about good leadership, creativity, and vision. Particularly two names come to mind: Steve Jobs and his company Apple.

There is however one important question to ask: would Steve Jobs be able to succeed if he had to do everything alone or even if he had employees who wouldn't however engage themselves and wouldn't sacrifice themselves to finish certain projects and push them to the next level?

Certainly not! It is the whole point. It takes great leader and great team of people to achieve big goals, finish big projects, and bring more profits. Each employee engagement adds up to the company success. The great leader is able to motivate their employees to contribute the best they can to the company’s growth and success.

To get married or not to get married? If you hesitate, then probably getting married is not for you. There can be various reasons:

For those who do not hesitate wedding is one of the greatest events in their lives. It is also special because you spend a lot of time preparing it. Creative Thinking Techniques – want to accelerate?

Creative thinking techniques have been used for ages by people to come up with new ideas, to solve difficult tasks, to make decisions, to create things and more.

If you think you are not creative, don’t worry! Creativity can be learned.

Here are some extremely useful techniques, you can use to enhance creative thinking skills:

Role Playing – pretend that you’re someone else, either real or imagined, and think of new ideas. This method inspires new thoughts you might not normally be comfortable thinking on your own. Role Playing Games are a perfect example of using these techniques!
Brainstorming – this is often done with two or more people. The idea is to think of as many solutions as possible without censoring yourself or criticizing other people, and build ideas by association.
Free-Form Writing – this is a common technique for opening up your mind to new ideas. Write for a set amount of time whatever comes to your mind associated with your problem. Do not filter your thoughts or worry about spelling or grammar. Simply let the writing and ideas flow.
Random Element – when you’re looking for a solution, introducing a random element to the problem can help unblock ideas. Identify your dilemma and then open a book and pick a random word; this method compels an association between the new word and the problem, allowing new solutions to flow.
Mind Mapping – write down your issue in the middle of a piece of paper, then draw branches from it in many directions. At the end of the branches you jot down any ideas triggered by the main idea, and then draw branches out from these associations to add sub-associations. Using colors and images is helpful to stimulate the imagination.

As you can see, there are at least a few really great creative thinking techniques which you can use straight away. I bet you are familiar with brainstorming. Try however the other ones as well to come up with even more ideas and solutions.

Goal Setting Theory – what’s in it for you

It’s true that the more you know where you are going the easier it is and the faster you get there. But it doesn’t mean you have to know everything before you start taking any action. On the contrary, the main idea is to have your plan ready, execute it and reach perfection and constant improvement on the way to achieving your goals.

Don’t let details and distractions keep you away from getting where you want. By defining your goals you discover where you want to go and how to get there. The result will be inevitable when you focus on those activities that will take you close to your goal and avoid those, which are a waste of time. These are the main points behind goal setting theory.

But what does a process of goal setting consist of?

Knowing the big picture – think what it is that you really want. What are your skills and talents, what do you like doing and forget yourself while doing it? The bigger the goal and the more aligned with your heart, the easier it is to achieve it.
Knowing about time limitations – you need to put a time frame, deadline to achieving your goal. This is because achievement tends to be attracted to speed and detailed visioning.
Becoming someone new in the process – usually goal setting resembles creating something new, stepping out of your comfort zone. To succeed you need to be open for new ideas, new adventures, new people on your way. You need to be flexible and be able to adapt to new. This idea is easily proven by the process and maintenance of wealth creation: most Lotto winners do not understand this concept and therefore lose their money soon after winning it.
Writing down your goals - by writing your goals down you measure them. Your outcome, achievement is a result of shaping your abstract idea into real forms. And so by writing it down, you see that it is achievable.
Taking action – this is a huge step. What’s the purpose of drafting powerful plans, if you fear to take action and implement the plan. There will be obstacles on the way, as usually they are but important is how you overcome them and if you keep going to achieve your goals.

There is no one to fear and no one to hate when you listen to your intuition and respect your own feelings. Our inner self is measured by the respect we feel for other people. These opinions cannot harm you, and you may disagree with their opinions. The perfect example of this can be observed in an example of Dr Viktor Frankl, the prisoner of four different German concentration camps. He survived the tragedy of captivity thanks to his ability to make choices about the way events affected him. What he decided to do was to never let other people humiliate him.

"The best cure for the body is a quiet mind." Our brain creates everything that exists in our lives and what will come into existence in the future. What we feel whether it's happiness, fear, depression, etc is dependent on the way our brain works, and the simple fact that our minds do not differentiate between imagined events and the real ones. It all shows us the possibilities in creating the outcome. Our illnesses are created by our thoughts and decisions. By looking at our mental health, ability to love, self-reliance, purpose in life, health we can really cure ourselves. Here are two simple examples:
- look at people in love - their beauty, radiant skin, and inner vitality reflects their well-being,
- laughing yoga as laughter cures all. Even cancer can be cured by watching comic movies, laughing, surrounding yourself with positive people and bright colors.

Listen to yourself. Ask yourself what makes you happy and do more of it. Get rid of things which make you miserable. Don't fear changes. You might be greatly surprised to experience new and amazing things in your life.

Introduction to Speed Reading Techniques Part II

We covered some basics in the first part of this series, now let’s head on to some “meat” of speed reading techniques;).

Eliminating Subvocalization – the key to speed reading
When children learn how to read, they often practice by reading out loud, carefully formulating each word slowly so as to digest meaning. This, of course, is beneficial when just starting out, but if you continue to read this way into adulthood, your reading will be extremely slow, without necessarily increasing your comprehension. Reading each word “aloud” in the mind is another form. Eliminating subvocalization by practicing chunking, skimming and meta guiding, therefore, is key to speed reading.

Let’s take a deeper look at some of these methods
1. Chunking
Rather than read each and every word, the chunking technique allows you to take in blocks of words at a time. You train your eyes to focus on short paragraphs or word groupings with key meaning, avoiding filler words such as “and” and “the”. Hitting the first and last sentence of a paragraph will often give you the majority of necessary information. Sometimes, however, this method decreases reading comprehension and absorption of information.

2. Meta Guiding
Meta guiding is a speed reading technique that uses visual guides such as a finger, pen or card to assist the eye to scan text faster and more efficiently. You can use a finger or several fingers or a card to pace down the center of the page in a slow and even movement; you can use your hand or fingertips to underline the lines from left to right; or you can use the visual guide to “hop” from line to line, drawing the eye from one word or group of words to another. The eye is drawn to movement, so this method trains the eye to quickly move from one block of words to another instead of focusing on one word at a time.

Wrapping up…
Keep in mind, however, that different materials will require different speeds; a paperback novel will be easier to absorb than a chemistry text book. Speed reading is not magic; on the contrary, like any other skill, the only way to get better is to practice constantly. Normally it takes about three to four attempts to get used to it, and from there you can continue to increase your pace.

I bet you have always wanted to read faster and absorb more information at the same time. You can! It’s not a skill one has to be born with (although some people have natural talent to read fast), you can learn it by practicing simple speed reading techniques without losing retention of information.

Most people continue to read the way they were taught as children: letter by letter or word by word, and some even continue to read out loud or by mouthing the words. Reading this way is extremely time-consuming and does not guarantee retention of the information. The average person reads about 200-300 words per minute, while a speed reader can get through 500-700 words per minute, or even more.

Just for a start…
The first thing to do when learning speed reading is to familiarize yourself with the material before you dive in and read it, and the easiest way to do this is to scan the back cover and the table of contexts. This way your brain has already absorbed key terminology, ideas and the order of information. Further, you should sit upright, have proper lighting, the right text size, no distractions around you and get your eyes checked out to make sure your vision is good.

Most speed readers automatically use a variety of methods in their endeavors, such as chunking (taking in blocks of text), skimming, meta guiding (reading with the aid of your hand, a pointer or a card) and most of all eliminating subvocalization (reading aloud or mouthing). Those who practice speed reading do not focus on each word nor read “aloud” in their minds, but rather scan the text with their eyes and allow the brain to absorb and comprehend the material.

Even if it sounds quite technical to you, these techniques are quite simple when implemented and practiced regularly. In this next part of this series I will guide you through some popular and effective speed reading techniques. Till soon than!

For many people, this question is shrouded in vagueness; they might actually be able to break through to success in their lives…if only they knew what their passion was. Unfortunately, far too many people settle for mediocrity in their jobs, their relationships, their health and their financial situation because they have learned a mindset that says “I can’t” instead of “I can”. They have never been given the tools to achieve greatness.

What if you had a Purpose-Driven Life?
When you love what you do, that opens a door that invites in success – in all aspects of your life. Success is not just about having a lot of money, it’s about living a fulfilling, rich and passionate life. You don’t consider Mother Teresa a failure because she doesn’t drive a BMW and live in a 52-room mansion.
The sad fact is that sometimes we can be our own worst enemy, unconsciously sabotaging our happiness and success. This goes back to the mindset. Laughing Yoga – is this a joke or remedy?

Laughing Yoga is a type of Laughter Therapy – a combination of laughing and yoga breathing. In fact, the word "yoga" means union, as in the integration of body and mind. Laughing (or Laughter) Yoga is a fairly new concept based on the idea that laughter is beneficial to your health and that anyone can laugh without external stimulus. It uses physical movement such as clapping and chanting, simple yoga postures like stretching, breathing exercises, voluntary laughing and positive affirmations. Performing this on a daily basis can help you boost your immune system, reduce stress, and feel more joy in your life.

NO JOKE
So how do you laugh without hearing a joke or watching a comedy? As adults we have been trained to laugh as a conditional, mental response. In other words, we hear a joke, process it in our minds to determine if we “get” it, and then decide to laugh as a result. Children’s laughter, on the other hand, is instinctual and mostly physiological. They don’t need a carefully constructed punchline to tap into humor; kids laugh when they’re playing, and because they don’t need a reason, they laugh up to 400 times a day. Adults, on the other hand, laugh only an average of 16 times a day. The idea of Laughing Yoga, therefore, is to re-teach adults to laugh without a reason and to cultivate the playfulness of childhood again.

Breathing is vital to our health, not to mention our existence, and yet most people don’t breathe properly. They breathe so shallowly that carbon dioxide builds up in the lungs. But when you breathe deeply and slowly, you take in more oxygen which clears out the carbon dioxide and allows more oxygen to flow into your cells and your brain. Laughing Yoga incorporates two great ways to bring in more oxygen: yoga breathing and laughing.
Simply by doing these laughter exercises the brain will be tricked into thinking it’s happy and produce the same chemical reaction in your body that happens when you truly are happy. After a while this response will become habit and you will find yourself feeling happy more and more, regardless of your external circumstances.

The importance of good mentoring

I find mentoring as essential as eating or drinking. For me it is a way of quickly and efficiently developing the many aspects of my life. I've got a couple of mentors; sadly, one of them is not with us anymore but fortunately she left us with a couple of her great books.

Most popular sources describe a mentor as someone with experience, knowledge and/or skills in a specific area who is able, willing and available to share this information with another individual.

My definition of a mentor is broader because I've got some spiritual mentors who are not personally available to me. One of them is Ayn Rand. I value her approach to courage, values and individualism. In her books she describes strong personalities who, no matter the circumstance, always follow their passion in life. Of course, there are also those who act in opposition to this belief, and it's really interesting and even inspiring to read the implications of not following your passion.

My new mentor is Internet Marketing Speed founder James Schramko. He left his highly paid job to successfully develop internet marketing strategies and automated profit systems like affiliate marketing, list building, search engine optimization and traffic generation.

Not only is he my business coach but he is available to me! :) He is a relaxed, easy-going and extremely successful Aussie who is very positive and has fantastic new ideas all the time. A huge part of his nature is to share all his great wisdom with others and he always delivers what he promises.

In Poland it is minus 15 degrees Celsius right now but here he is talking about time management on the beaches of Sydney. What a life!
