I can’t believe its already been 2 weeks since I returned from my vacation to the Czech Republic, a place I’ve always wanted to visit for the longest time ever. I fulfilled my dream to visit the beautiful “City of 100 spires” aka Praha or Prague as we know it and I thought I’d share some of the things you can do while you’re there, because quite a few of you had expressed interest to visit.

If your plan is to shop till you drop then Prague isn’t for you. Let’s just get that out of the way because I’ve met more than a few people in my time who, at the mention of Europe, start to get that Chanel sparkle in their eyes. There is good shopping to be had in Prague, but its not the best place for that. What its worth going for is the views, and architecture and to just soak up the atmosphere of an old city, relatively undamaged by the various wars and political upheavals they’ve undergone, and just live for a little while.

I was there towards the middle of Spring which I was told, is not exactly a wonderful time, because the weather can get a little wonky. They had a long cold winter and were just starting to thaw out by April so when I arrived, the weather was a warm (almost hot) 25°C and I was quite disappointed. 2 days later, the temperature plummeted to the low teens and down till about 4°C. Its apparently better in Autumn when the weather is more stable but in Spring, you’ll see the beautiful flowers  in bloom everywhere so it has its attractions.

I thought I’d share 10 things you can do in Prague, in case you think of visiting, and it serves as a quick introduction to the city and what I did while I was there So, strap yourselves in your chair, we’re going on an armchair holiday with quite a few pictures to go through!

If you remember, back during the MWS 6th Anniversary giveaway series, I gave away a very exclusive item that had not yet even been launched at the time. I remember being interested in it back then and I may have tried a little sample and I was intrigued, because red is very eye catching, but if you go to the counter, you will be introduced the hydrating range (blue) or anti-aging range (pink/purple) and rarely, and almost never, the Nutritious range. I always wonder why.

Go here for full text and images: Packing skincare for a cold Spring/Winter climate when you come from the tropics

When I recently went away on vacation, it was to a country in the Northern Hemisphere which had just broken through a particularly long winter, and Spring was just in the air. That wasn’t quite what the weather report for Prague told me when I checked before I left. I had reports of weather in the teens and wide ranges of temperature of 25° – 6°C … in one day! I wasn’t upset – no sirree! It meant I could drag out my boots and tights and coats! Whee!

But as I packed my cosmetic pouch, I knew I had to make a bit of allowance for this sort of temperatures and weather. Coming from the tropics, I’m used to  warm and importantly, humid weather for most of the day, everyday. Light textured products like gels or gel creams are preferable for comfort. But from experience, I knew that weather in Europe was not only colder, it was also drier and creams generally work better there.

So when I packed my pouch, I made sure I bore this in mind. I thought I’d share what I packed, because I’ve had people ask me before this what they should pack for a holiday to a colder climate, and also because I know many of you will travel at some point and may wonder if you should compensate for your skincare or if you can carry your own

Mary Kay is a name not unfamiliar to many people. Its familiar to me, but much to my surprise, I have never in all my years come across a Mary Kay representative. Rather, I’ve never had anyone approach me to sell me the products, have you? So its probably not surprising that I have not yet tried anything from the popular direct selling brand.

However, I have in recent times had people tell me to give some of their products a go. Mascara is one of them, as is their lipgloss and lipstick. I’m also told their eyeshadows are very impressive at a wallet friendly price tag, so that’s another item I’m quite interested in. Have you tried them?

But I digress, because what we’re on about today is the Mary Kay Beauty that Counts limited edition Nourishine Plus lip gloss in “Celebrate” and the Creme Lipstick in “One Woman Can” – although what I really wanted to say is “LOOK AT THE PRETTY SWIRLS!” I am put in mind of Raspberry Ripple ice cream.

Its been a rough, really rough 2 weeks, emotionally. I’ve been riding an emotional roller coaster, hitting giddy highs and sinking into the lowest of the low. It was the worst for me last Friday when I really felt in despair of ever having a solution to my on-going problem with the people responsible for damaging my car. Blogging and work is helping keep me on an even keel as I strive to have some normalcy amongst the chaos.

But last week, after a long hot shower, I sat down, looked around my humble abode and decide that enough was enough. I didn’t want to keep dragging myself down and despairing over things. Yet, in the 2 weeks when I’d been stumbling around like a zombie, I realised that my home had become a big pile of mess. Well, its not just from last week but its been a growing mess that I keep looking at and looking away because I just don’t have the energy to deal with that on top of everything else.

I had my mail, bills, junk mail, bank statements… all littered over my dining table. We joke that I shouldn’t have a dining table because I don’t dine at it, I just use it as a horizontal dumping ground to dump everything on when I get home. I had stuff everywhere, laundry unfolded, mail unopened, press releases strewn all over. It was a tip.

I needed to get things under control and it would have to start with my home and by clearing clutter.

Bright blue liner! If you didn’t already realize it, blue (and in particular bright blue) eyeliner is all the rage at the moment. Its a fun twist on the traditional black and brown eyeliners and if you are feeling a bit lazy and don’t want to put on too much makeup, slick on a bright eyeliner, put on mascara and you’re good to go! I’ve been very uninspired with my makeup recently and this is all I’ve been wearing.

I never used to be very adventurous before. I’m a staid ol’ fuddy duddy But when I dabbled with blue eyeliner last, I knew I had to find one that was bright enough for my needs. When the new Laura Mercier Cream Eye Liner in Cobalt landed on my desk, I told myself this had to be it! Just look at that electric blue!

Like all cream eyeliners, these come in a little pot and the product has a beautiful creamy texture. Very creamy. Oily lidded girls take note. It doesn’t come with a brush but Laura Mercier sells an angled eyeliner brush which they say goes well with it. I don’t have that one so I used one of the eyeliner brushes I had, which is an old one from Becca. Does the job!

Today is Mother’s Day here. It seems that Mother’s Day is celebrated at different times in some other parts of the world but lets just play along shall we?

I don’t usually fall in with the whole “xx Day” concept but I was talking to some people in the past week and we were talking about what interested us in terms of beauty and how we had that interest. It turns out, quite a few of us had been influenced by our Mums!

So I thought it would be fun to see if you too felt the same way. How has your Mum influenced your beauty routine; or to put it the other way around, how has your beauty routine been influenced by your Mum? Did she buy you your first lipstick? Did she pick out skincare for you?

I was introduced to a new local (Malaysian) brand of cosmetics yesterday known as Covo Cosmetics and while I have my reservations about getting excited over a new player in the market without quite knowing how long it’ll be hanging around for, I must say I have been quite taken by the few items I’ve seen. After all, for a brand to succeed, they do need our support, don’t they? But I’ll tell you about it another time.

I wanted instead to very quickly share about one specific item that had me zeroing in on it as if my gaze was hooked by a tractor beam. It was the Covo nail polish in Maldives and if you have been following the nail colour trends for Summer 2013, you will understand why I singled this one out for special mention
