Back in May we said that June would be big for Optimus, and since then we’ve paraded out 16 new Optimus systems while at Computex, including big name OEMs Acer (Gateway 14’” ID49C and 13.3’ EC39C and Packard Bell 15.6’ EasyNote TX86 and 13.3” EasyNote Butterfly s) and Lenovo (14” z460 and 13” y360).

And, right after Computex, Dell announced that the world’s most powerful 11-inch gaming notebook, the Alienware M11x, would now have NVIDIA Optimus technology.

Today, Toshiba rolled out their 2010 models. Their Toshiba Satellite A665 and Satellite M645 laptops have select models equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce 310M and GeForce GT330M graphics processors, and those systems also include NVIDIA Optimus technology.

I am impressed with these laptops and their awesome Fusion X2 finish, which blends a durable textured surface over the cover and palm rests with a glossy trim. But they are not all about looks, as they blend style with multimedia performance by using the latest performance-class components and cutting-edge technologies designed to boost high-def entertainment, productivity and creativity.

So there you have it: Acer, Dell, Lenovo, and Toshiba. Four biggies to add to Asus as providers of Optimus-enabled systems. There are around 40 Optimus-enabled laptops and netbooks that have been announced so far. We have tiny-footprint NVIDIA ION netbooks, laptops from 13-inches to 15-inches and even high performance 11-inch gaming notebooks. The advantages of NVIDIA Optimus is undeniable, and I am glad consumers have a choice in just about any type of notebook they could desire.

Packaged in a beautiful black chassis accented with cool lighting, the Alienware M11x was tiny and powerful. It weighed less than 5 pounds, yet was powerful enough to play any game you wanted to throw at it. The press loved it and the reviews were sterling.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M, a powerful GPU commonly found in notebooks with much larger footprints. This combination made the system hard to categorize because it took the traditional laptop and netbook formulas and stood them on their heads. Was it a tiny gaming notebook? Was it a supped-up ultraportable? Was it the world’s most powerful netbook? Notebook or laptop, call it what you want…..as long as you precede your descriptor with ‘killer’ or ‘kick-ass’.

Literally the day after Alienware M11x reviews hit NVIDIA had a game-changing launch of our own with NVIDIA Optimus technology. Optimus optimizes the mobile experience by letting the user get the performance of discrete graphics from a notebook while still delivering great battery life. Optimus accomplishes this by automatically and seamlessly selecting the right graphics processor for the job between an NVIDIA discrete GPU or Intel integrated graphics. The editorial community rained praise on the NVIDIA Optimus technology.

Despite the proximity of the launches, there was a glitch. The Alienware M11x did not have NVIDIA Optimus. Instead, it was saddled with the old style switchable graphics, and was missing the automatic seamless nature of NVIDIA Optimus.

Eager to remain on the cutting–edge of technology, Alienware quickly righted that, and today they are launching the Alienware M11x with NVIDIA Optimus technology. By doing so, Alienware may have created the perfect product.

As David Ragones mentioned in his recent post, here, we're also showing Optimus technology for netbooks, including two just-announced ASUS ION netbooks, the 12-inch EeePC 1215PN and the 10 inch EeePC 1015PN. We also have Acer's previously-announced 10 inch Aspire One 532G.

June is a huge month for NVIDIA Optimus announcements and Computex is just the start of things. More news to come!

Today we introduced the new GeForce GTX 480M GPU for Notebooks and with it we’re achieving some very impressive milestones. First, this is DirectX 11 done right for notebooks. Tessellation is the most important new feature for the DirectX 11 API, and the GeForce GTX 480M is a true tessellation monster for the notebook platform. It offers a dedicated Tessellation engine for up to 5x more performance than any other GPU.

Second, with the power of the GeForce GTX 480M GPUs, notebook manufacturers can set new records for notebook performance. Put simply: If a notebook maker wants to build the fastest possible system on the planet, they will start with GeForce GTX 480M as its foundation.

Third, we’ve now brought the vaunted Fermi architecture to notebooks. GeForce GTX 480M delivers nearly three times more NVIDIA CUDA cores over previous generation Notebook GPUs, which means users get unbelievably fast video transcoding, upscaling from standard definition to high definition and real-time movie clean-up with the click of a button.

And finally, the GeForce GTX 480M not only delivers the world’s best gaming frame rates, it also gives added features that no other GPU offers, including NVIDIA 3D Vision technology for an immersive gaming experience, NVIDIA PhysX technology that brings games to life with dynamic, interactive environments and NVIDIA Verde Notebook Drivers for the most up-to-date performance from your notebook.

We’re happy to partner with Clevo to introduce the first system based on GeForce GTX 480M. Stay tuned for more systems in the future.
