I forgot to update my blog yesterday so I officially tanked on NaNoBloMo. But I’m not going to let that stop me! I’m gonna pick myself right back up and act like it never happened although I was thisclose to forgetting to update today, too. (What can I say — I am tired.)

Because I can’t think of ANYTHING useful to say (maybe tomorrow) I’ll just tell you that the kids are winning behavior awards around here (except for their random hollering). Noah has been reading to Madison every night after I read to her and then he stays in the room with his book to keep her company while she falls asleep.

“Well, I love her,” he said, shrugging. “I don’t mind helping her fall asleep.”

That is really nice of him because me? I always beg off by pointing out that there’s housework to be done (she falls asleep just fine on her own anyway — Noah is just thoughtful because HE always liked someone to lay down with him).

He’s a good big brother. He even shared out his Halloween candy when she blew through her stash in the first few days.

Madison is excited to have a new room and the pink walls (it’s a rich, deep pink — more of a coral) are much more soothing than the bright green we did have. The green is that green that you saw everywhere a few years back — that Martha Stewart only brighter green that always got paired with bright pink. I don’t know what we were thinking and pretty much the minute it went up on her walls I hated it. It just took us awhile to get our sorry butts in gear to repaint.

So now she has her pink walls and we cleared our her busy patterned carpet with a soothing beige (it’s amazing how a busy area rug will make a room look even more cluttered than it is). My mom gave her one of those bed veils — the kind you hang from the wall? The gauzy netting? And we used it over her little housekeeping area just to make it feel more set off from the room. We cleared a ton of toys OUT and a ton more down into the playroom basement where they will remain unpacked and will perhaps if unnoticed after a period of time will join the other toys out into the wide, wide world of the thrift stores we frequent. (In fact, as a younger kid Noah more than once attempted to talk me into buying back toys that we had donated.) She decided that she wanted her room to be more of a playing house place so her non-playing house toys went into the playroom. So her cars, blocks, art, etc. are there and upstairs is her own little house. We also took her closet door off the hinges because her room is small and the door just made it hard for her to manage things. We used one of our old sheers to screen it a little and she is very pleased with her new “dressing room.” We also hung one of those closet extender bars so she can hang up her own dresses.

She is very determined to keep it clean. Last night when it was finally finished she stood in the middle her whole body just glimmering with glee and she said, “Isn’t this just the kind of room for this?” accompanied by a dainty pirouette.

Noah is now inspired for us to get his room done next, which is nice since he’s steadfastly refused any upgrades. Come spring we hope to get our room straightened out. If Madison ends up sleeping more in her bed than in the family bed, we’re going to get rid of the space-eating king size mattress and scale back to a queen.

Brett is convinced that this has stirred up good feng shui energy. Madison’s room is our career corner and wouldn’t you know that we finished it all last night and then this morning I got an email about a project I expressed interest in. Brett is rather smug now, let me tell you! But we’ll see how this all pans out, eh?

I was lucky and got a teaching job right after I received my Masters. In March of 2001 I was happily teaching seventh and eighth graders. I thought that I wanted high school but I quickly fell in love with this age group. I really loved what I was doing.

Unfortunately, for years I had been battling female issues. I had endometriosis. I had been dealing with it for four years. They had done many laparoscopies on the endometriosis. Finally, I hit the age in which they would consider a hysterectomy and they also felt they had done too many laparoscopies. Therefore, in March of 2001 I announced to my students I would be gone for 6 weeks. I told them to behave and I would miss them and off I went....

Now, hysterectomies are considered pretty routine. There are two kind. Vaginal. This way they don't have to 'open you up' or the traditional 'open you up' type. My doctor chose the less invasive surgery, vaginal.

I had my hysterectomy and spoke with my doctor in recovery. "Everything went great Lucy, you will be released tomorrow." Through my haze I said, "Thank you" and then I was wheeled off to my hospital room.

Now, my family came to see me and my husband was there. He was exhausted. Anthony is a CPA and it was MARCH. He works a lot at that time of year and the guy had been up probably 24hours or so. I assured him I was fine. Hell, I was loopy. I had no appetite and no energy but I did have surgery, right? My sister came and she kept remarking that I looked pale. Hello, I just had surgery. My mom sent my husband home, he could hardly keep his eyes open and I wanted him to check on the kids. They had already come to the hospital to visit and my Dad had taken them home.

I JUST WANTED TO SLEEP. I WANTED TO DO NOTHING BUT SLEEP AND KEEP SLEEPING. BUT, THESE NURSES KEPT TAKING MY BLOOD PRESSURE, LIKE A LOT. My mom and sister-in-law kept getting in my face. Then, I started to think something might be wrong when this happened, "Hi, Lucy I'm Dr. So-and So and I am the attending Doctor on staff right now and we are calling your doctors right now but you are going to be fine, can you hear me?" And, Honestly, I was thinking, please God, let me sleep and if you are a doctor, why are you asking me if I can hear you? So, I shake my head yes, I think? And then I knew I was in trouble when the Doctor from the practice was at my bed in the middle of the night in my face saying, "Lucy, Lucy stay with us, you are going to be fine, we don't want to take you back to surgery yet but I will if I have to, we are giving you blood now, you need to stay with us." And then I hear. "Get her husband here, now!"

Now, I was really out of it. I just wanted to sleep but I had a clue things weren't quite right when I heard, "Get her husband her now!" Really, not something you want to hear but I still wanted to just go back to sleep. It was like, "ummm. will you all just leave me the hell alone!"

Well, you all know the ending because I am typing this, I lived but I have never been the same from "a simple hysterectomy". See, I ended up getting a shit load of blood because they think I had a stitch slipped and I had internal bleeding. The doctor said that this why they still will not do hysterectomies as outpatient. He was very frank with us. If I would have went home I would have died. I would have went to sleep and not woke up. INTERNAL BLEEDING. The dropping of my blood pressure, which the nurses take constantly after surgery, alerted them to the problem.

Unfortunately, I did have to have surgery a week after my hysterectomy. They believe the blood transfusions led to a blood clot that they had to go in to drain.

AFTER, all the above I now have BACK ISSUES. I never, ever, ever had any back problems. EVER. They believe it is due to scar tissue, positioning of the body in the surgeries and blah, blah, blah. I now have a 'gel' leaking from my discs onto nerves that cause pain. Sounds complicated and it is. I went through a lot of hell. Trying this route and then another route for relief and so on.

It took me over a year to get my strength back. The internal bleeding was just like being shot and I lost a lot of blood and your body doesn't just bounce back and then to have another surgery on top of it. Then, the back issues and no Doctor wanted to even come near me to do surgery. I was considered "high risk" or kind of like a "lemon". You know, the girl can't even have a simple hysterectomy go right, who wants to take a chance on a serious back surgery?

My husband spoke with a lawyer, I did not want to. I really, really liked my doctor and truly believed this was all a fluke and I still truly believe that is what happened. You know such is life. Anyways, it made my husband feel better. The lawyer was a client/friend and he looked at more off the record first and if we wanted to proceed then we would have used him. The lawyer found what I believed or let me put it this way, that is how it would have been perceived. My husband still isn't so sure, you know protective husbands. I do believe it was just a fluke.

All this is leading up to why I have "bad days". Or, probably why I am more of a homebody now more than usual. See, last week I was quite busy. Lot's of running around. Shopping. Lifting WATER and POP Cases. A lot of walking. We went to the THEATER twice. We traveled. All of those things really takes a beating on my body. They all are normal easy stuff for most of you. They are stuff I did all the time and NOW THEY KILL ME and I am on medication and they still send my body into pain mode.

I LIVE EVERY DAY IN PAIN. I cannot begin to tell you how much that wears on your soul. Pain can really get you down. I refuse to take some 'good medication' and I have tried to back off of some of the stuff they insist I need only to find myself laying on the couch in tears and then back on the medication. The doctor I work with is great. He knows the psychology behind pain. He knows the fear I have of addictions so he works with me. He allows me to try to give up my medication, he allows me to use as little as possible but he warns me constantly that if allow the pain to get too much then they are just doing 'catch up'. Trying to calm the pain and get me on my feet.

Now, I try to listen to my body and follow the life adjustments but even doing those things I never, ever am totally pain free and today please bare with me. I am in A LOT of pain. I can hardly function. AND you will giggle about this, I have to teach religion tonight to 4th graders, God I hope they behave. But, it is ironic, I have to teach RELIGION when all I want to do is DIE on the couch.

I miss my pain free life. I gave up teaching. I couldn't go back after the surgery or the following year and by the time I felt I could possibly teach, well, jobs were hard to come by and I just didn't have it in me to fight for one.

I hate not being able to vacuum or scrub the bathrooms. We have hired someone to do those things. It has been put in the monthly budget. It gives me a little bit of relief but psychologically it kills me.

Anyways, I thought I would explain just a little bit about ME today.

Plus, I am having a very PAINFUL day and needed to get it out.

Sorry for the long post!!!!

http://lucyslifeinsuburbworld.blogspot.wfymadret9.com

[ JannaBee ] Welcome!

Welcome to all the visiting SITStas! If you aren't familiar with SITS, it is a great program for bloggers to support other bloggers. It's a great way to find new blogs, and possibly meet a friend in the process.

My name is Janna, and I am a Mom of two of the sweetest <s>and most frustrating</s> boys, Drew and Jacob (or as I sometimes refer to him, Mr. Calamity) and wife to an awesome husband, Mr. Bee. I love my life <s>most of the time</s>, but I'm someone that will vent on her blog. I hope you can laugh along with me at life's silly little imperfections. I can be quite silly or raunchy and sometimes I swear. Just a warning. I tend to write about whatever topic comes to mind, but often it is about parenting and my children, or sometimes I like to write about silly pop culture news.

Now for some gratuitous pictures of my boys:

Drew is 4 1/2.
Jacob turned 2 last month.

I have been blogging since 2006 and consequently have <s>way too many</s> a lot of posts, so I had such a hard time picking out three posts that best represented my blog. I hope you like the ones I picked. If you like them, and want to read more of my favorite posts, go ahead and look in My Favorite Posts tab for more. Also, if you are interested in finding more good reads, check out my Blog Roll! I also have a tab for items related to Pop Culture or Entertainment Posts, Photography Related Posts and Posts about my two boys, Jacob and Drew. You can find out more about me on my About Me tab. Here are my three posts:

Geeks Are Underrated

I Know I'm a Mom Because...

The Secret Eating Habits of the Bees

Thanks for coming to visit.... let me leave you with a picture of what I would have baked if you were coming to visit my house... oh, who am I kidding, I don't bake.

I'm going to give NaBloPoMo another shot this year. I completed it last December, the month after The Big One. Didn't find it all that hard, but this year I'm lots more busy, with school and whatnot. Not that much whatnot -- like work & such, no job -- but school is plenty.

Heck, I may even manage to have something to say, rather than just rambling incoherently -- which might leave you wondering if you are reading the right blog. So I better avoid that.
