Crazy Love Basically Bare Minibook

Here's another minibook from my recent trip to Winter CHA 2012. This sample features a Basically Bare album and cool embellishments. We also used papers from 7 Gypsies. (Here's a link to the 7 Gypsies blog: Gypsy Journal.) These two companies go together like bread and butter!

I had such a good time creating this book. The workshop ladies were creative and laid back. We learned how to distress the archival safe cardboard pages. I would of never thought to do that on my own. What a great touch!

I couldn't wait to get home and put in my personal touches. The only things I added were my pictures, keepsakes, and handmade ribbon roses. The album was the perfect size for the enveloped notes that my husband leaves for me. Even the sticky notes fit too.

Valentine Creations

It's the night before Valentine's Day. Are you frantically trying to figure out what you can do to make for your loved ones to make them feel special?

I know one lady out in blogland that didn't waste any time in making me feel special. Doris of The Stamp Tower sent me this beautiful card. Not only is it beautiful but it's also clever. This gate fold card is held shut by the large pink embossed heart. The side of the card front with the white heart is a tear off bookmark. How awesome is that!

I spent some time this evening with my daughter getting her classmate's Valentine's together. We used free printables that I found through Pinterest as the main piece. Creative Mamma created and shared this cute Kawaii Valentine's Kit on her blog. You can hop on over to her blog for the complete kit and super fun downloads. Here's her blog link: Creative Mamma

I used only one page of the kit for her cards. There was a blank space perfect for stamping so I stamped on the sentiment "Giggle laugh and be silly". My daughter taped on the sparkly foam hearts after she signed her name under the sentiment "Friends forever" on the back. Both stamps were from The Angel Company. She was so proud to sign her name and she can hardly wait to give them out at school tomorrow. I'm so excited for her.

Lastly I printed off this awesome card with envelope printable from Daily Suze. Here is the link to her blog post: Free Printable Love Card for Valentine's Day at Almalu' Place. The printable was put on plain copy paper and then put onto a blank notecard. This duo is just perfect for an anniversary note for my husband.

I will be celebrating our eighth year of marriage tomorrow. It just seems like yesterday when I first met my husband. I thank God for putting Andrew into my life and for using him to teach me about love.

Upcycled T-Shirt Necklace with Felt Flower

I was given a promo t-shirt which label read that it was "One Size Fits All". It was maybe a one size fits all toddlers t-shirt. I knew for sure that I couldn't squeeze into that baby and look respectable. So it was really easy for me to snip that shirt up and refashion it into something else.

Snip-snip-snip away into strips it went. A little braiding and glue here and there and I wound up with a great base for my lovely felted grey flower. Now that teeny-tiny t-shirt is something I can wear and know that I'm not showing off my fluff.

Don't ever be afraid to change something in your wardrobe into something else that makes for a better fit. You just never know what it might turnout to be.

My Little Shoebox Minibook - Winter CHA 2012

Hello there! I was privileged and blessed to get to go to Anaheim for CHA last month. I took a ton of workshops and wound up make minibooks galore.

Here's one that I finished up today. Boy oh boy did I have fun! This was the first crafting that I've really done all year. The original design was for this book was created by Nana Campana. You can view Nana's class sample on her blog at this link: Nana Campana's Little Book of Me .

My version of the minibook is based on my daughter's preschool days. It's been amazing to see my baby grow into a preschooler. Her world of discovery is awesome and kindergarden is not too far off.

We used My Little Shoebox's "Pretty Little Things".

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I hope you are having a very blessed Christmas! I am thankful to celebrate the birth of our saviour and to spend time with my family.

Here's an altered paper bag hand stamped with some of my Pink Persimmon images. To make this baggie all you need to do is ink up and stamp a large tag, adhere designer papers all the way around, and add embellies.

My Mom had caught a glimpse of it at as I was putting it under the tree. She called dibs on the baggie which really made my day. Ironically there was a little something for her in the baggie. :-)

Besides the altered baggie I also made this vintage style Christmas card. Here I used Pink Persimmon's "Holly & Mistletoe".

This one went out to one of my husband's long time friend/mentor. Since the card was mostly flat it didn't take extra postage. What you don't see in the above picture is all the glimmer and shine from Spica pen highlights. Those highlights really made the card pop.

Back to Fall

Here in Oregon the leaves have finally fallen and it's been cold. I know it's winter time but it almost seems like it's still autumn. We haven't had much rain this season and nature's fall time colors still remain. Anyhow, last month I put together this frame to commemorate our time here in Oregon. We have so many dears in our neighborhood and a billion trees. I've seen more dears here than when we first arrived and lived in the cabin in the woods. The trees here are so thick that you can hardly see the ground. What a huge contrast to our former home in the arctic.

If you haven't guess it by now, I totally love Pink Persimmon's "Oh Dear (Outline)" stamp set. I think I've made at least four different projects with it in the past few months. I find them dears irresistible and fun to color. Here I stamped the images, colored, and trimmed them out.

Besides that the project was pretty basic to make. I covered the frame with embossed cardstock and then used the leaves, twine, spiral clip, and leaf ribbon to embellish. To complete this frame I also paired up the "Mini Banner Greetings" set and fabric leaves.

It's so funny. I started this post yesterday and over night it finally rained. Ha-ha... I hope you like the frame and that your day is filled with blessings.

Hello Holidays

I can't believe that it's almost been a whole month since my last post. Boy has time flown straight by. Let's see since I last checked in we've had Thanksgiving, Black Friday, my daughters birthday and party... the list goes on. I've made a ton of projects too. Most of which are not within the papercrafting realm and will be gifted to members of my family. I am not going to share those projects until after Christmas and maybe all the way into the new year. :-)

However, I will share this little precious piece of jewelry that came together quite by accident. While going through a stash of broken jewelry I found a neat little wire rose. I immediately thought it was the right size for an interesting ring. I paired it with some little half pearls and it was done. It took longer for the glue to dry than it did to put it together.

Isn't it pretty?

Today's Card

In the midst of life I totally forgot to post this yesterday. Thankfully Darcy over at the Pink Persimmon posted it for me on their company blog. You can see the post over here: Send Someone a Card Today, Just Because

This card is the third in a series of cards for the Pink Persimmon. They were inspired by my friend Katie Renz. You see I've been in a design slump over the past few months and when it comes to deadline time I would scramble to get my creative team assignments done.

Well this time around I was revisiting Katie's blog and was inspired by her style. Some were clever, some were pretty, and some were simple but most of all they were awesome. I bet you didn't know that there for awhile she received every single new release stamp from Clear Dollar Stamps and she would make samples for just about every one within a months time. She could pump out so many cards come deadline time it wasn't even funny. I always wondered how she did it.

Previously Posted

This trio of cards came along quite happily once I had some inspiration. So in a Katie-like fashion my projects were done and before the deadline. It wasn't too long after that Katie and I were talking on the phone and I told her about my recent inspiration. It cracked her up and she brushed off the compliment in her own humble way.

Today's card was the last one I made in that set and it is poignant that Katie passed away this week. I had been waiting to share this story since those cards were made and I meant to send her one of those cards. Instead of sending her one of those cards I took the drive up and we got to visit in person. That was the weekend before she went into hospice. I will cherish those four hours with her and her family forever.

On another Katie note, we both discovered Pink Persimmon at the same time. We shared our first order together and "Little Red Wagon" was one of the first sets she bought. I can see why she liked it... it's so cute!

This probably wasn't what you were expecting. I couldn't help but share. I'll miss my friend Katie and I grieve for her family. I am thankful for stamping because it brought us together.

Through Katie’s blog katiespaperhaven.blogspot.com she was able to share her experience with an on-line community which transformed into a supportive group of thousands of real tangible individuals; supporting her with their kind words, thousands of cards, donations, and kind gifts.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin;

sons, Hunter, Nathaniel, and William Renz;

parents, William and Karen Emerson;

sibilings, Mira Gobel, Robert Park, Miles Emerson, Eden Emerson;

niece, Emylee Gobel and nephews Bryson Gobel and Daniel Park.

Hello everyone! It's fall time here in Oregon and the mornings are crisp-crisp. I can almost smell the snow in the air and it reminds me of Alaska. We've pulled out our mittens and warmer coats. I love it!

Today I have the second card of a series of three for the Pink Persimmon. I'll be sharing the last one later on this month. Anyhow, today's card was made with paper scraps and in a simple layout. I am surprised to find how cute a card can be with so few supplies. It makes me happy.

Scottie Dog is stamped in Palette Ink with the bow done with Copic Markers. I simply cut out Scottie Dog and popped him up with pop dots.

That's about it for this simple card. I hope your day is full of Autumn blessings.

Grandma's Girls MiniBook

My infatuation of minibooks continue...

About two years ago I took these lovely photos of my daughter and Mom's cat hanging out. About six months later I had the pictures printed and put them into a photo book. I thought I could just keep them photos in that book but this minibook itch that I keep having made me think otherwise.

Green and Scrumptious... Can it Be?!

Yes, I hate to admit it but I love baked kale! Baked kale makes such a great munchy snack. You may have already come across another blogger or two that have shared the joys of backed kale. I'm sharing too. I can't help it. I love baked kale!

Here's how to make your own:

Ingredients

Kale (Organic)
Sea Salt
Pam or Olive Oil Spray

Instructions

Wash your kale thoroughly.
Pat dry with paper towels or air dry.
Place kale on a foil lined baking sheet.
Spray with Pam or olive oil spray.
Bake in oven at 350 degrees F for 10 - 15 minutes.
Check on progress half way through. Turn and re-spray if needed.
Remove from oven and salt to taste.
Eat up. You won't regret it! :-)

The baked kale should be crisp but not burnt. I've tried regular kale and lacinato kale. Both are yummy. I found the lacinato to have a richer flavor and tasted more like broccoli. Now a days when I am craving potato chips I'll think twice. Bake kale satisfies the need for something salty and with a little crunch. It's totally worth heating up the oven.

Simple Designs

When it comes to stamping and creating the design is really up to you. I love to spend time making papercrafts with tons of details. Lately for a change of pace I've tried my hand at more simple creations. Here's a perfect example of one of my less intricate cards.

The image is from Pink Persimmon's Little"Red Wagon" set and was colored with Copic markers and a touch of a Spica pen. The greetings sentiment is from the "Scottie Dogs"set and was stamped with Distress ink. About the only thing complicated with this card is the papers. :-)

There are many advantages to making simple cards but the one I like best is that they are easy to mail and won't cost more in postage. :-)

Yummy and Easy to Make!

Maggie's Blog

I don't know what brought me to Smashed Peas and Carrots but I am happy that I came across it. It was probably a link party or something of the like. Anyhow today's post is on a recipe that blogger Maggie of Smashed Peas and Carrots shared. It's called No-Bake Energy Bites. Yummy is what I call it! :-)

We actually didn't have all the ingredients for her recipe so I swapped the ones we didn't have with items that we did. Here's a revised recipe for Maggie's No Bake Energy Bites:

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup almond butter
1/4 cup Agave
1/2 cup Nutella
1/2 cup coconut
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
3/4 cup choco chips
1 tsp vanilla

Mix it all together. Chill mixture for a half an hour. Hand-shape into balls and enjoy. Mine came out pretty dry but they did hold their shape. My version almost tastes like a cookie-less Samoa Girl Scout Cookie. I think it's the combination of chocolate and coconut that gives it that Samoa like taste. They are so yummy and that's what I am going to call them... "YUMMY NO-BAKE BITES".

Key to My Heart Card
Check out these two different views of this vintage looking antique tent card. The designer paper really set the tone. I stamped the sentiment in the printed frame at the bottom edge and then embossed the heart to add more texture. The key was also stamped and decorated with a hint of Stickles.

This card started out as a blank 5" x 7" notecard. The original background was hand stamped. From there I added a layer of designer paper with mess and then topped it off with more stamping and diamond glaze. It's crazy how well the stamped images blend in.

Webster's Pages Minibook

Hello folks! I know I've mentioned before that there's something about creating minibooks that I can't resist. It's simply fun-fun!

Webster's Pages Minibook!

Here I put together a minibook with loads of Webster's Pages stuffs. Webster's Pages is the complete package. They have fabby embellishments and stunning papers.

See the paper ribbon?

This minibooks was completely assembled by yours truly. It was inspired by a tut from Laura of The Paper Trail. The binder itself is a recycled cereal box covered with cardstock that is held together with regular office clip rings.

Fun layered image cutouts.

To add some pop and extend my WP embellishments I used images from the cardstock to make 3-D embellishments. It was easy to find a special image to cutout and layer up with popdots. I also highlighted some of the papers with Stickles and created ribbon strips out of the paper scraps.

More paper embellies. See the rolled paper rose and ribbon? ;-)

It was a modge podge of WP collections that went into this project and since they all have the vintage flare it came together as a perfect eclectic collection.

Love that floral ribbon. There is a hidden pocket here. Can you see it?

I simply adore this book. It's hard to bring myself to put in pictures and journalling because I like just how it is all it's own.

Skirt to Shirt (Blouse)

Hello everyone! Life has been above and beyond lately. I feel so blessed to have so much and at the same time I've been a tad bit overwhelmed. Anyhow, here's a little ditty of an accidental upcycle project. I came across this wonderful skirt at a thrift store. At the time I didn't try it on. (Big mistake.) Once I got it home and put it on I thought wow... this is horrible. The design made my hips and thighs double the size. So not cool. How could I fix this? I love the print and the colors were too beautiful to resist. I really wanted to keep it.

Something clicked and I thought if I turned it upside down it would make a fabulous blouse! Those ruffles will accent the neckline just right. I immediately took charge and bravely whipped out the seam ripper. It took letting out the seams on the sides for arm holes. Next I stitched up the bottom to form the shoulders and neckline. It was pretty easy and I love the results.

What do you think? The ruffles are so girly and there's plenty of room in the bust area. The elastic at the bottom create a nice poofed and tucked in look. I am so glad that I was able to keep the skirt in the end... even if it's been repurposed into a blouse.

Hello! This month has been full of travel for me and I've been aching to get back to making something papercrafty. This weekend should of been a productive one but I really didn't start creating until late this afternoon. I started by going through my stash to see what was calling to me and I came across a sheet of digital images that I had printed out earlier this year. I simply could not resist. :-)

In the end this is all I wound up with. I am completely satisfied with my sweet altered images. They are a great start to making a stash of "Thank You" cards for a ministry at my church. I hope you had a great weekend!

Love Dove

I am coming to discover that I flip-flop between simple and detailed designs. This card makes me so happy. The design is clutter free and the card is flat. This means I can send it anywhere without paying extra postage. I aughta make a whole stack more to send out. Between me and four year old daughter we have a whole lotta cheer to mail out. :-)

Pink Persimmon Stamp Set: " Love Dove"

Despite the simple design there is bunch of stamping going on here. The dove was stamped and cut out from white cardstock. All the coloring was done with Copic markers. The flowers below the dove were directly stamped and colored on the notecard. Not much more to say about this one other than the blank notecard came pre-scalloped and is cardboard-like paper. It's one of those nice sized ones from Oriental Trading company. You can find this lovely stamp set at Pink Persimmon.

Scottie Dog FUN!

One of the very first Pink Persimmon sets that caught my eye was "Scottie Dogs". Who could resist that cuteness? Certainly not me. :-) Pair "Scottie Dogs" with the "Carnival Alphabet" set and you have some sweet stamping fun!

This is a larger 5x7 card. The main background paper is designer cardstock with some personalized distressing and stamping on it. The distressing was mainly done with glimmer mist. That stuff can be so addicting. I LOVE IT. There are so many different shades going on there.

To stamp the background I left "Carnival Alphabet"on the acetate that it came packaged in and then temporarily taped it to my clear Sizzix die cut pad. To ink up the stamp I laid it on my desk and then applied the ink on top. In other words I took the ink to the stamp instead of taking the stamp to the ink. It's far easier than doing with the ink on the desk and taking the stamp to the ink. Did I didn't loose you there?
