The printing ink industry in North America is facing unprecedented challenges in raw material feed stocks, supplies, and freight.The combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent winter storms that hit the U.S, have crippled the supply chain for the industry. In Texas alone, the frozen roads and the failing power grid have idled or slowed manufacturing sites and oil production causing spot shortages and jeopardizing ink supplies

Earlier this week, U.S. President Biden ordered a review of US supply chains for advanced batteries, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, and semiconductors, among others.

Virtually all raw material families for the printing ink industry, including oil, energy curable, solvent, and water-based systems have been greatly impacted. Print equipment suppliers are also under pressure as equipment and parts are often delayed.

NAPIM supports our members, our industry, and our economy. It is respectfully requested that companies and organizations work together to address these challenges and issues until normal production and distribution resume.

Join Industry Leaders for the VIRTUAL NAPIM Technical Conference and Electronic & Conductive Ink Conference!

National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM), Ink World and Printed Electronics Now are excited to announce the inaugural VIRTUAL 2020 NAPIM Technical Conference/Third Annual Electronic and Conductive Ink Conference. The conferences will be held during the week of October 12, 2020.

This year’s programs will offer comprehensive looks at the latest in ink technology, both present and future. NAPIM’s Technical Conference will feature its Keynote sessions, as well as Technical and Regulatory breakout sessions. Speakers will cover major themes, including packaging, sustainability and the most up-to-date environmental, health and safety (EHS) updates.

NAPIM Executive Director, John Copeland, stated “By launching the Technical Conference in a virtual format, we are able to attract ink manufacturers from around the world to register and attend that have not been able to in previous years.”

The Third Annual Electronic and Conductive Ink Conference will highlight the latest trends in conductive inks and flexible and printed electronics.

In addition, Virtual Exhibits will allow attendees to connect with leading suppliers in the field.  Stay tuned for more details on speakers and exhibitors.

Clemson University has moved all classes online through the summer session with no plans to open the university for outside events. The Summer Course is such a hands-on experience that without the use of the classrooms and labs, there will be no virtual or online alternative offered.

On behalf of the NAPIM Board of Directors and Staff, the decision has been made to cancel NAPIM’s Spring Convention scheduled for April 17-20 in Phoenix, Arizona due to concerns related to coronavirus (COVID-19).

This was not an easy decision for us to make. However, it is our obligation to do what is in the best interests of all our attendees and event sponsors. As we have all been following the news surrounding coronavirus, it is changing hourly with local and state governments issuing safety declarations, airlines cancelling flights, and large events such as conferences and sporting events being cancelled. Some attendees have already informed us that their companies have stopped all employee travel and that they would not be sending anyone to the NAPIM Spring Convention.
This is an unprecedented situation for our organization, but we wanted to inform you as soon as a decision was made.
