The Cutting Edge Remodeling Expo Proves Successful

With our first annual The Cutting Edge educational expo nearly a week behind us, we wanted to share with you all what a success it was. The event, presented by NARI Atlanta University, was an opportunity for industry professionals to come together and learn about new building standards, products, and much more.

With over a hundred people in attendance, the expo was a wonderful success and people from all over Georgia came out to hear from keynote speaker Sal Alfano, editorial director or Remodeling magazine, and attend the 18 courses that were offered throughout the expo. We could tell you much more about the remodeling event, but we thought we would share it with you through pictures instead.

3 Remodeling Trends that Could Last

Though we tend to think of trends as fads that typically come and go with time, every so often we come across a trend that is so smart and simple, that it has the ability to stand the test of time. These trends are certainly worth mentioning.

When the recession hit, plenty of homeowners had to opt for more reasonable renovations. Elaborate upgrades began to fade while functional and affordable updates took precedence. As the economy continues to show signs of improvement, it doesn’t seem as though these trends will be going anywhere. Here are the three remodeling trends that stand out.

In law suites are likely a trend that will stick around. The added convenience and extra space is perfect for most homeowners.

In Law Suites – With an aging baby boomer population, many families choose to renovate basement and attic space to accommodate long term living options.

Outdoor Living – Though complex outdoor renovations have subsided, there is still plenty of demand for outdoor improvements. Entertaining and family time have become major aspects of outdoor living.

Custom Kitchens – Since the kitchen has become a prominent place for gathering, kitchens look much less like work space and more like entertaining space.

More Homeowners Plan to Spruce Up Homes than Move

With home renovations taking precedent over home purchases, we expect to many incredible projects this year.

Each spring, homeowners begin the season with lofty plans for their homes. Along with the warmer weather come plans to revamp exterior landscaping, remodel interior spaces, or just to move to a new home altogether. This year however, many more homeowners are planning to spruce up their homes than move to a new one.

According to a recent report from Appliance Magazine, a mere 10 percent of homeowners plan to move this year, while a whopping 70 percent are planning to make improvements to their homes. That percentage has increased from last year, when 64 percent of homeowners reported renovation plans. Of the 70 percent, 58 percent plan to focus on the indoors and 35 percent have plans for their outdoor spaces.

For those that have plans for the year, many are choosing to focus on the big updates. These include purchases such as cosmetic work, new furniture, organizational systems, and new landscaping.
