There are a lot of exciting events going on this summer in Pepperell and one of the most long-beloved of our summer events, the Summer Band Concert Series sponsored by the Pepperell Business Association, is beginning again. This year the concerts will start at the earlier time of 6:30pm at the Town Field every Tuesday evening. The series’ first installment will be tonight July 6th featuring the “Back in Time & Cruise Night” theme sponsored by Masy Systems. Future performances include July 13th’s performance by “The Stone Blue Band” complimented by an ice cream social sponsored by Ten Broeck Insurance Group and Pepperell Family Pharmacy; July 20th’s “Old Enough to Know Better” performance accompanied by Remax hot air balloon rides sponsored by Remax; July 27th’s “Mumblefish” concert with an ice cream social sponsored by Lyons & Tzanoudakis, LLP and Richard Egan Construction; August 3rd’s “Downtown Rhythm” performance coinciding with Pepperell Safe Night sponsored by Masy Systems. The series culminates on August 10th with a performance by “60’s Invasion” sponsored by Hazel Brooks Foundation and CW Lorden Real Estate. This series promises to be yet another fun-filled, family-friendly PBA event, and I hope you and your family find the time to come down and enjoy the music and fun while taking advantage of this great opportunity to support the Pepperell Business Association and all the local businesses that are sponsoring our concerts.

Come up and join the Business Association in also celebrating the newly restored Bandstand. It took a community to build it and the same community of Pepperell fixed it. It looks great.

Hope to see you at the concert series and please help spread the word.

Enjoy the Summer,

P. Derek Ten Broeck Jr, President
Pepperell Business Association

PS I have attached some promotional pieces for the band concerts. Please feel free to distribute and promote this wonderful concert series.

I received a review copy of the book, Groton, this past weekend, and I wanted to share my thoughts. So, here’s my quick book review…

First off, here’s the info on the book from the publisher, Arcadia Publishing:

Groton, $21.99, Arcadia Publishing. Available at local retailers, online bookstores, or through Arcadia Publishing at www.arcadiapublishing.com or 888-313-2665.

Now that we have the basics out of the way, let me tell you that the book, compiled and written by members of the Groton Historical Society, is wonderful. Containing over 200 vintage photos that provide a glimpse into mid 19th and early 20th century life in Groton, Groton is an interesting read about the town of Groton, its past citizens, and the wonderful architecture around town.

In fact, my daughter, who is a freshman in high school, was fascinated by the book. She really enjoyed all the photos and the history of the people and places of Groton.

Here are some highlights from the book (and this is taken from the press release):

Features the ordinary and extraordinary people, places, and events that molded the town

Showcases the quality of education in Groton through Groton Academy (now Lawrence Academy), the Lowthorpe School of Landscape Architecture and the Groton School

Immortalizes buildings in Groton that have been lost to fires, demolition or changing boundary lines

The Groton Historical Society is hosting a Special Open House on Saturday, February 13th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to launch their book. The open house event is at the Boutwell House on 172 Main Street in Groton, MA. If you would like more information, please call 978-448-0092, or visit the Groton Historical Society website.
