Avoiding and reducing waste at X-Mas and New Year's Eve

How can we avoid waste at X-Mas? Avoid plastic bags when buying presents. Complex packaging and decoration produce piles of rubbish. One should't use foils and coated wrapping paper - prefer recycling wrapping paper or even newspaper. You can also reduce waste and plastic in your christmas tree decoration: stars made of straw, untreated wooden figurines, pastry, fir cones and nutshells are quite popular. Experts advise not to use chemical colour or snow sprays. And on New Year's Eve? No firework! Here you can find more inspiration:

Much was talked about and much was revealed: Why garbage as a global problem needs to be part of everybody's awareness, how you can call attention to it and get rid of it at the same time, and who is engaged in the field of waste pollution and its reduction - our event Art and Waste on 13. September was a great success! Interested people and natchoo-friends came by and watched our bringing together of art, philosophy and engagement accompanying the 22. Congress of the DGPhil and the LMU philosophy department in Munich, "World of reasons" (Welt der Gründe). New contacts were made and our fight now freshly enters a new round. natchoo not only works as an online environmental platform, but also in reality: on the 13. September 2011 our event art and waste is taking place, a unification of art, philosophy and engagement. It is part of Philosophers in the city (Philosoph/-innen in der Stadt), organised by the Chair of Philosophy IV at Ludwig Maximilian Universit in cooperation with the City of Munich and in addition to the 22. congress of the DGPhil Welt der Gründe. We therefore managed to win the artists of Skeleton Sea and the philosopher Anke Haarmann to be a vital part of our happening. When, where and how exactly? Check out our press release:

Greening the city

The other dimension of parking! September 18, 2009 was Park(ing)Day and natchoo was there!
This inspiring idea is originated in San Francisco and is by and by turning german concrete jungles greener: on Park(ing)Day your chosen parking place (requested at the city administration) is kept free of cars and transformed into a green park oasis!

Everything is allowed that brings people's awareness from smoggy and polluted streets to green and sociable park oases. Thus as many as 16 of these public "green places" were created in Munich this year: with the help of lawn turfs or green carpets, with potted plants and lawn chairs, hammocks, free soft drinks etc. you can create a green recreation room and direct the public attention towards problems like missing parks, the omnipresence of traffic etc.!

A small milestone on our way towards a cleaner world: the Wall of Shame is finally online and can be loaded with digital photos from this moment on!

Everybody is welcome who witnessed polluted landscapes, undisposed waste accumulations or any other environmental pollution on his holidays or even at his doorstep and who has documented this. Every registered person can upload digital photos from his computer to the Wall of Shame and make environmental grievances public!

We are finally online! We worked hard to publish the site on this important date, the World Environment Day. You can find more info on the WED at www.unep.org.

At this beta-state the natchoo-website has all the information needed to understand what this project is about and how it works. The main tool "The Wall of Shame" is still not implemented yet, but we are eager to get it up and running by the end of this summer.
