Chanel Island and Delight Le Vernis Swatches and Review

I have meaning to write about Chanel's Summer 2012 Collection for quite some time now but life has simply been too busy as of recent. Thus, you may have noticed the frequency of posts has been less than usual. I'm finally catching a small break this weekend to get my blogging mojo back on. Anyhow let's talk about the new les vernis now shall we?

Chanel came out with 3 shades - Island, Delight, and Holiday in this collection. Each of the shades cost $26USD. As usual, I picked up the lighter and more neutral leaning shades. I was particularly excited about Island from the promo pictures. Seashell pinky beige? Must have!

Look at all those beautiful shimmers!

Delight on the other hand was a blind purchase. It is my very first gold nail polish purchase.

I really didn't know what to expect with Delight. In the sun, it turns into this bright shimmery burnt gold.

The one thing that Chanel seems to do so well is to create chameleon-like shades. Indoors, Island is a soft pink with a hint of beige and Delight is a medium gold with lots of shimmers.

The minute I step out into the sun, Island turns completely Beige with very fine shimmers but there is virtually no pink detected. Delight on the other hand is super bold, glittery, and shimmery.

Out of the two, I find Delight a bit more unique compared to Island. I say that because OPI's Cosmo Not Tonight Honey! is incredibly similar to Island. In fact, it has a little bit more shimmer in comparison. I was also disappointed that it turned beige in the sun. I really wanted the seashell pink color instead. Chanel's Delight is much more gold compared to LMdB's Lame Entertain You.

Overall, I like Chanel's new summer polishes but I am not in love with them. I had a hard time pulling off Delight since the color is completely out of my comfort zone. However after wearing it for a week, the shade somewhat grew on me. Its texture is so much better compared to Island, which required 3 coats to get full opacity. I can get away with just 1 coat for Delight.

Bottom Line: These are nice shades that are dupable and not must-haves for me. I purchased these without seeing them in person but would most likely skip if I had. If you're on a budget, I'm sure you can find plenty of similar colors at a lower price point. I'm really looking forward to seeing more innovative shades from Chanel. As of late, I feel like the colors are not as unique as the ones from last year.

Chanel Sable-Emouvant Eyeshadow Duo Swatches and Review

Chanel Sable-Emouvant made its debut at the beginning of May in the Summer 2012 Collection. It retails for $42USD and can be purchased both online and in stores. In the past I have never really paid too much attention to Chanel's duos. However, Sable-Emouvant really caught my attention this time around.

In indoors lighting, Sable-Emouvant duo consists of a rich chocolate and creamy beige with fine shimmers. Once a bit of sunlight hits the pan, you can see the beautiful shimmers come to life.

The colors are definitely much lighter when the duo is in direct sunlight:

In a finger swatch, Sable-Emouvant is every beauty lover's dream. Its texture is buttery soft and the shades are nicely pigmented.

I'll let the colors speak for themselves.

The shimmers in both shades are really fine so you will not get a chunky glittery mess on your eyes.

Overall, I am a huge fan of Sable-Emouvant. The texture and pigmentation are simply divine. Although the shades are not particularly eye catching, I can't seem to find an exact dupe for these in my collection. The beige shade is unique in that it turns gold when you step into the bright sunlight. The chocolate brown shade becomes more intense as well.

Bottom Line: Sable-Emouvant is a very chic eyeshadow duo. It is my very first eyeshadow duo purchase from Chanel. This is easily one of my favorite items in the collection. If you love neutral shades like me, I am sure you will love Sable-Emouvant. The shades are goof proof, office friendly, and definitely beautiful for bridal makeup. Those who are looking for bold looks may be disappointed with this duo.

Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge #6: Your Community

For this week's 6th and final Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge, my task is to find ways to make small changes in my neighborhood.

First, I try to reduce the amount of plastic bag usage as much possible. I use recyclable shopping bags both in supermarkets and shopping malls. It's actually a lot of fun carrying around these light and cute bags. In fact, I can carry most of my groceries using 2 large bags compared with the traditional 3-5 plastic bags.

Second, I make a conscious effort to support local farmers by purchasing my fruits,vegetables, and flowers from farmer's markets .

Thirdly, as an Aveeno Ambassador, I am more than excited to share with you the Aveeno Be An Active Natural Fund. This program supports those that are leading community projects that benefit others in need, educate on a healthy lifestyle and give back to the environment. Guerlain Emilio Pucci Summer Terra Azzurra Terracotta Collection Swatches and Review

Guerlain's Emilio Pucci Summer Terra Azzurra Terracotta Collection is making its debut this month. You can now find this collection at Nordstrom both online and in stores.

The bronzer and blush retails for $75USD. It is held in a wooden magnetic compact that is similar to one of my all time favorite bronzers, the Sublime Radiant Powder (reviewed here). This also comes with a nice silk pouch with the iconic Pucci print. The first half of the powder is a bronzer and the latter half has 3 different blush shades - coral, dark pink, and pale pink.

The quad in Capri retails for $59USD. This has a medium pink, coral, deep burgundy, and frosty white shade.

The meteorites or also known as Pearls d'Azur Illuminating Powder retails for $59USD and it comes in a special package with the Pucci print. There is also a powder brush with blue bristles that retails for $43USD. I was surprised to find the brush to be quite nice and soft on the skin.

The collection also has 2 nail polish ($22USD) shades in Coral Pink and Indigo Blue. Indigo Blue is the more unique shade out of the two due to its metallic and shimmery finish.

Capri eyeshadow quad is actually really nicely pigmented as shown in the swatch. The texture is quite nice and smooth. The Meteorites has no color, only visible shimmers under the light.

There are also 3 new lipglosses ($32USD) in the collection - Sunny Coral, Sensual Brown, and Indigo Blue. The Khol Kajal Eyeliner is a deep blue indigo that is pigmented and glides on the skin easily. It retails for $36USD.

On my hand, you can see the bronzing powder to be bronzy coral and the blush is a nice coral pink. Unfortunately on my cheeks, the bronzing powder all swirled together creates a muddy shade that was not at all flattering. It looked as though I was sunburned, but not in a good way.

Overall, this is a nice collection but personally I do not think any of the items are must-haves. If you are a huge fan of Emilio Pucci, the bronzer, brush, and meteorites are all nice collectors items. Although the products all have great pigmentation, I feel that the colors are not particularly unique. We've seen the coral and blue theme in practically every single collection this summer.

Bottom Line: If you're on a budget, I think it's safe to skip this collection altogether (which is what I did). The bronzing powder and blush has an incredibly smooth texture but the shade was a muddy mess on me. I recommend trying it out in person before shelling out $75USD. The glosses are nice with Indigo Blue being the most unique out of the 3 if you feel like being adventurous. The meteorites goes on clear with visible shimmers like every other meteorite that was released in the past. If you must get something up from this collection, my picks would be the eyeshadow quad, the Khol Kajal Eyeliner, and any of the 3 collectors items with Emilio Pucci prints on them (for Pucci collectors).

Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge #5: Body

For this week's Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge, my task is to find ways to improve my body. Here are a couple of things that I often tone my "problem areas":

1. Now that spring season is here, I am ready to head out to my favorite hiking trails. I'm not sure about you but I'm not a fan of exercising in a stuffy indoor gym. I find it so much more fun spending time outdoors walking, hiking, or biking.

2. I'm a bit sad we have a late winter this year but I'd also love to head up to the mountains for a nice run on the slopes. Nothing works the body muscles like a couple of hours snowboarding!

3. Another activity that I'd really love to incorporate into my "exercise" routine is camping and swimming. The recent hot weather is perfect for a nice long swim in the pool or ocean. Not only is this relaxing but it also helps burn off a lot of calories.

Chanel Tumulte, Malice, Pink Explosion, and Plum AttractionJoues Contraste Swatches and Review

Chanel launched 3 new and 1 re-promoted Joues Contraste Powder Blushes last month. These retail for $43USD and can be purchased both online and in stores. Pink Explosion first came out in the baked formula (reviewed here) in an Asia Exclusive collection last year. Chanel brought this back but in the US formula that we all love. Tumulte, Malice, and Plum Attraction are all new shades.

The new Pink Explosion seems to be darker and richer in color compared to the one from last year. Tumulte is lighter in comparison and does not have noticeable shimmers like PE. Malice is a dark coral with red undertones. Plum Attraction is a rich plum with fine shimmers.

With all four blushes, you will get rich pigmentation. Chanel excels at making very wearable and flattering shades. The texture is soft but not chalky. You can see the shimmers in Pink Explosion and Plum Attraction under direct sunlight.

Overall, I am a huge fan of Chanel's Joues Contraste Powder blushes. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the shades. Plum Attraction can be sheered out for a soft plum or almost bronzer like effect. Malice is a soft beautiful coral shade while Pink Explosion and Tumulte will be especially beautiful on light skin tones.

Bottom Line: These are beautiful shades to definitely check out. I personally did not pick any of them up quite yet because they are part of the permanent line. I will eventually go back to pick up Tumulte and Malice. I find the US formula much easier to work with compared to the baked formula. If you missed out on Pink Explosion the first time, you'll now have plenty of chances to pick it up.

Dior Glacier Vernis Swatches and Review

Dior Glacier (191) is a limited edition nail polish that was released in the Asia Exclusive Icy Halos Collection. It is described as a "a misty blue as delicate as a cloud" on Dior's website. I am head over heels with Glacier. I am so incredibly glad I was able to get a hold of it from Asia. I shall let the beauty of this shade speak for itself.

At first glance, Glacier looks like a simple baby blue nail polish that is probably dupable from other brands.

The magic really happens when you step into the sunlight. Glacier has these incredibly beautiful baby blue shimmers that adds a whole new dimension to this shade. From the brush, I can see the pretty fine shimmers.

I find that this shade requires about 3 full coats to achieve full opacity. You will still see visible nail lines with 1-2 coats. In very bright sunlight or indoors, Glacier is a pastel blue.

I can see brush strokes with this formula but I don't really mind it since the color is so unique and pretty.

I don't really have anything that can be considered an exact dupe of Glacier in my collection. Here are a couple of colors that I thought would come close:

Essie's Cocktail Bling turns out to be much darker but it does have the grey undertone that Glacier has. OPI's I Want To Be A-Lone Star is more muted and not as light in comparison.

Overall, Glacier is undoubtedly a winner for me. I am really glad I was able to purchase it. It is a gorgeous shade with a great formula. As Dior had stated, it really is a delicate misty blue. I consider Glacier as a chic and understated elegance type of nail color.

Bottom Line: If you are in Asia, I highly recommend picking up Dior Glacier Vernis. I did have to pay roughly $28USD but is it definitely worth the extra $5. I personally do not think this is a dupable shade due to the way it looks on the nail and the very fine shimmers. It is a very chic color that can be worn for any occasion. I think Dior has been on a roll with their new line of nail polishes and this one is one of the few truly outstanding shades. For those in the US, I know this is currently only available on Ebay but hopefully Dior will sell it online in the near future.

Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge #4: Spirit & Mind

For this week's Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge, my task is to find ways to relieve stress to improve my spirit and mind. Here are a couple of things that I often do to when I need some serious R&R:

1. After a long day of work, I like to wind down with a cup of warm honey water and read my favorite beauty magazines. Nothing relaxes a beauty junkie's mind better than learning about the latest makeup tips or the newest cosmetics collection soon to be released.

2. Carving out a small section each day for "me" time. It can be as simple as doing my nails, watching TV, or picking up the camera and taking photos of anything that catches my eye. Sometimes the simplest things can clear my mind off of the stress from work or the long daily commute.

3. Sometimes I light a candle, spritz on a nice scent, or lather on myself a nice smelling lotion. I find that lavender calms my mind while citrus and fruity scents gives me a nice kick of energy. As you all already know, I absolutely adore Aveeno's Positively Nourishing Body Lotions (more scents reviewed here). Needless to say, I am in love with the two new scents of Lavender + Chamomile and Pomegranate + Grapefruit.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Supreme Foundation Review

Laura Mercier recently released the new Oil Free Supreme Foundation. It retails for $42USD and is available now for purchase.

KEY CLAIMS

· Oil-free, non-drying, lightweight formula glides on evenly on to skin and does not settle into fine lines.

· Visibly minimizes the appearance of pores for smoother skin.

· Buildable coverage, from moderate to full, evens skin tone.

· Provides a soft matte finish.

· Longwearing formula (lasts up to 8 hours) feels lightweight and comfortable on skin.

· Silicone-free, fragrance-free, non-greasy.

KEY INGREDIENTS

· Aloe Bardadens – soothes and refresh skin.

· Green Tea Leaf Extract – provides antioxidant and astringent properties.

· Vitamin E – provides moisturizing properties.

· Vitamin A – provides antioxidant and moisturizing capabilities and helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

· Panthenol – a hydrating agent that improves skin’s natural moisture balance.

· Silica – porous mineral absorbs oils, visibly smoothes skin.

I tried out the shade Shell Beige but found it a tad too pink for my skintone. I think Tawny beige might be a better match. The texture of the foundation is creamy but not so thick and greasy that it makes my skin shiny. I made the mistake of using half a pump on the first try. Moderation is really the key with this formula. You do not need a lot of foundation because a little bit really goes a long way.

As claimed, the Oil Free Supreme Foundation does provide a medium to full coverage. On the first try, my face looked extremely cakey because I used way too much foundation. The second time around, I used a tiny amount of the foundation and lightly tapped it onto my skin. This worked a lot better and it gave me a really nice finish.

I was pleasantly surprised that this foundation did not accentuate wrinkles, fine lines, or dry patches. Again, if you use the correct application method, you should not be seeing any of these issues. Laura Mercier recommends "shaking well before using and applying to face with Laura’s Foundation Sponge or fingertips. For best results, use with a Foundation Primer".

Overall, I am quite fond of the Oil Free Supreme Foundation. It did not break me out and did provide a nice medium to full coverage. I think this is a great formula for those looking to even out the skintone or cover up acne/imperfections.

Bottom Line: This is a good product to check out. I recommend getting your color match at the counter to get the correct shade. I also really want to emphasize that you really do not need to use a lot of product to achieve a flawless look. In fact, the less you use, the better. If you have dry skin, moisturize and use a primer beforehand. This should work well on normal, combination, or oily skin.

Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge #3: Your Home

For this week's Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge, my task is to try and re-decorate my home without going shopping. If there is one place that needs cleaning, it's definitely my vanity table. I have too much makeup that requires to be organized in an orderly fashion. Here are a couple of steps that I have taken to help clean up my personal space:

1. Instead of purchasing a new makeup holder, I use a simple glass dish from the kitchen cupboard. It actually fits quite a few lipsticks and lip glosses! This is a great way for me to rotate through all my lip products so I don't end up using the same colors all the time.

2. After finding a makeup storage solution, it's important to keep it neat and organized. It only takes a couple of seconds to place the products into different sections. This way, I can quickly grab the lipsticks, lip balms, or lipglosses while putting on makeup in the morning.

3. I also re-used the bottom purple velvet jewelry box holder from UD's 15th Anniversary Palette (shown here) to store my perfume. I can fit at least 5 bottles in the box without spending more money for storage.

MAC Superb Skinfinish vs. Laura Mercier's Rose Rendezvous Comparison

Last year's Laura Mercier Rose Rendezvous Face Illuminator sold out incredibly fast when it first came out. I know a lot of people were unable to get their hands on it and had to pay outrageous prices on Ebay. When MAC's Superb made its debut this week, I've seen many rumors of this being a good dupe for Rose Rendezvous. As expected, Superb made its round among the beauty community and was sold out pretty quick from MAC's website. I personally love Rose Rendezvous (reviewed here) not only for its beautiful design but also for the incredibly lovely texture. I mainly purchased Superb as a backup but also to see if it is an exact dupe for Rose Rendezvous. Are you also wondering the same thing? Let's find out together now shall we?

In the pan, both look quite similar although I suspect MAC Superb seems a tad more bronzy? What I do know is that both have beautiful, intricate designs. I really cannot tell the difference between the two in the finger swatches either. However, the texture is slightly different between the two. Laura Mercier feels a bit grittier with the extra shimmers whereas Superb is a tad smoother.

Perhaps we can see a difference at another angle?

Swatch on my skin taken by window light shown below. Ok so these two look practically the same side by side. Can you tell the difference? I can't!

Let's wrap up and call it a day. There's not much else to see right? Well, not quite...

Now can you see the difference? When I tilt my arm slightly, I can see that these two are not exactly the same. Superb leans more bronze in comparison to Rose Rendezvous, which is rosier.

The shot below also shows you how much more shimmery Rose Rendezvous is compared to MAC Superb. This is the slight "grittiness" that I feel in the finger swatch that I had mentioned earlier.

Last shot in sunset lighting. Although these two are quite similar, they are not exactly the same.

On my cheeks, Superb is noticeably darker compared to Rose Rendezvous. I used the same brush, tapped the product the same number of times, and swiped them onto my cheeks to do the comparison. I'm not sure if you will see the difference on your skin but I definitely saw it on mine. Superb feels more pigmented and is not as shimmery compared to Rose Rendezvous.

Bottom Line: Although they may look the same if you look at the swatches straight on, they are not the same once tilted at an angle. Even in the pan, you can tell that Superb is peachier, bronzier compared to Rose Rendezvous. Do you need both? Well, if you missed out on Rose Rendezvous, I would say find yourself a Superb right away. If you already have Rose Rendezvous, this is really a great addition/backup to add to your collection. Rose Rendezvous was sold for $42USD and this is only $29USD.

MAC Extra Dimension Collection Swatches and Review

MAC Extra Dimension Collection officially launched on 4/5/12 at all MAC counters. As usual, MAC had the collection online a couple of days earlier. Since I'm no longer able to check out the collection on the day of the launch, I made a quick decision to purchase the Skinfinish in Superb with free shipping. As predicted, that particular shade sold out real quick! For those who are looking for the Skinfinishes, they are still available on Nordstrom's website.

The Extra Dimension Collection has 3 Skinfinishes, 2 re-promote brushes, and 10 new eyeshadows. At first glance, the products remind me of the Metal X collection. However, these are not exactly the same as those eyeshadows. These particular eyeshadows are similar to Estee Lauder's Pure Color Eyeshadows. They feel creamy to the touch but has a powder finish.

Lunar is a dark navy with shimmer. This is quite pigmented and goes on pretty smooth.
Grand Galaxy is a beautiful violet with a lot of shimmer. I was fond of the shade but it was too shimmery for me.
Havana is a neutral brown. It's a nice shade but nothing particularly exciting.
Sweet Heat is a rosy bronze that is very similar to Laura Mercier's Rose Rendezvous and Superb Skinfinish.
Rich Core is a burgundy that is not as dark or intense as I expected it to be.
Modern Pewter is a silvery green with a hint of grey on me. It looks beautiful in the swatch but was lacking the depth and intensity once applied on my lids.
Young Venus is a light pink with lots of shimmers.
Blue Orbit is a baby blue with lots of shimmers.
Warm Thunder is a nice gray with shimmers.
Dark Dare feels almost like a matte and has no shimmers.

The image below gives a better idea of how shimmery each of the shadows look in real life:

Personally, I think the stars of the collection are the 3 Skinfinishes. The texture is buttery smooth and is not crazy shimmery. I already knew I wanted Supberb but also tried out Glorify and Whisper of Gilt out of curiosity.

Whisper of Gilt is a golden beige on my NC25/30 skintone. It surprisingly did not look too yellow and gives a beautiful glow on the cheekbones.

Superb is very similar to Laura Mercier's Rose Rendezvous (reviewed here) from what I can remember. There is no doubt this is a popular shade.

Glorify is a bronzy orange that does look terrifying both in the pan and in the swatch. However, when I applied this with a skunk brush and a light hand, it gives a natural sunkissed glow.

Overall, I thought MAC's Extra Dimension is a nice collection. The texture of both the eyeshadows and Skinfinishes are very nice. With that being said, I did not bring home any of the eyeshadows. I tried on Modern Pewter, Grand Galaxy, Rich Core, Warm Thunder, and Havana. While the colors are beautiful, there was a bit of shimmer migration all over my cheeks by midday. I was not impressed. On top of that, the colors started to fade even with the use of a base. At $20USD a piece, I was expecting buttery smooth texture and longer staying power.

Bottom Line: This is a collection worth checking out. If you're on a budget, pick up at least one of the Skinfinishes ($29USD). I recommend Superb since it will be flattering on most skintones. Glorify is a real surprise so don't rule it out before trying it on yourself. Whisper of Gilt is not a must-have but is definitely a nice highlighter. I was not particularly blown away by the eyeshadows ($20USD) but if you really want to pick some up, my top picks are Grand Galaxy, Lunar, and Sweet Heat. You can use Sweet Heat as a highlighter as well since it's so similar to Superb. Why not save yourself an extra $9 right? The only downside is that Sweet Heat packs a lot more shimmer compared to Superb.

Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge #2: Beauty Routine

For this week's Aveeno Beautiful Change Challenge, my task is to try and simplify my beauty routine. My first step was to cut the makeup application time down to 15 minutes in the morning. It is really amazing how quickly I can apply toner, moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, and lipstick after a couple of practices. This allows me an extra 15 minutes every morning for a cup of Joe or some quick breakfast. Other baby steps I've made to simply my beauty routine are:

1. Apply cuticle oil and hand lotion before going to bed. This way, I wake up with soft hands and great looking nails. I let the magic happen while I'm getting my beauty rest!

2. Whenever I'm in a crunch for time, I apply Aveeno's new Tinted Moisturizer with SPF. It provides a light to medium coverage with the protection of sunscreen. This way I don't have to apply moisturizer, sunscreen, and then foundation. 3 steps in 1!

3. I apply body oil prior to stepping into the shower. I think I read this trick somewhere in Allure magazine. The steam from the shower helps lock in the moisture so when I come out, I don't have to re-apply more body lotion. What a time saver.

4. Last but not least, I also switched to using Aveeno's new Active Naturals Pure Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner. These are great because they are light weight, sulfate-free, and are made with natural ingredients. To further simplify my shower routine, I use the 2-1 formula, which contains both Shampoo and Conditioner. These smell quite nice and they do not dry out my hair.

Burberry Midnight Brown Sheer Eyeshadow Swatches and Review

Burberry's Midnight Brown Sheer Eyeshadow came out in the Fall 2011 Collection. It retails for $29USD and can be purchased exclusively at selected Nordstrom counters. I took advantage of the triple point event and took this home without any hesitation.

Midnight Brown is quite different from the other 21 shades due to the addition of shimmer. Although I can see multi-color shimmer in the pan, only the silver sparkles are noticeably visible upon application. Isn't it gorgeous though?

Despite being labeled as a "sheer" eyeshadow, Midnight Brown is anything but sheer. It is a lovely medium brown with shimmer that translates beautifully on my eyes. As previously mentioned, the eyeshadow is incredibly smooth and the formula is simply divine.

In the pan, Chestnut has more of a bronze undertone compared to Midnight Brown. Rosewood is lighter and more taupe.

All 3 shades are lovely but Midnight Brown is truly the new star to this lineup. The additional shimmer really makes my eyes pop. You can instantly go from day to night by patting Midnight Brown on top of Chestnut or Rosewood. I also find it impressive that I don't get those annoying glitter fallout or migration with this formula.

Bottom Line: Midnight Brown is a truly outstanding shade from Burberry. I am happy that this is part of the permanent collection. For those who are into neutral shades like I am, Midnight Brown will certainly not disappoint. I do highly recommend checking this out. As much as I love the other shades from the line, this is quickly becoming one of my favorites. For those looking for a dupe, I am sure there are similar shades from other lines but nothing is exactly quite like Midnight Brown. The pigmentation and texture of this alone makes it worth your time and money. Get it. No really. Add it to your collection. You won't regret it.

Laura Mercier Custom Artist Portfolio Collection Swatches and Review

Laura Mercier recently launched the Custom Artist Portfolio Collection this past weekend. Despite the rainy and windy weather, the mall was surprisingly packed with shoppers trying to get the Triple Point Bonus at Nordstrom. I had to fight the crowd to take a quick photo of the collection and some preliminary swatches to share with you.

There are 3 new limited edition Sheer Creme Colors in Bronze Veil, Pink Cheek Veil, and Pearl Glow Veil. They retail for $22USD and are created to highlight your cupid's bow, cheekbones, and other high points of your face. The texture of these Sheer Creme Colors are wickedly strange. They feel like a cream when I touch them in the pan but the actual finish on the skin is a really smooth powder.

There are also 5 new Second Skin Cheek Colors ($24USD) but I saw only 3 at the counter - Sweet Mandarin, Soft Iris, and Heather Pink. These are matte powder blushes with the exception of Sweet Mandarin, which has gold shimmers.

Three new limited edition lip glazes ($20USD) in Plum, Lotus Pink, and Soft Pink also made their debut in this collection. Although I'm not a huge fan of lipglosses in pots or pans, I absolutely love these. I did not have a chance to try them on my lips but they did not feel super sticky on my fingers.

Soft Pink and Lotus Pink caught me by surprise. I think both will look great as MLBB shades, especially Soft Pink. The shades are all pigmented, beautiful, and have a pretty little glossy sheen to them.

Last but not least, there are 3 limited edition eye color ($22USD) shades in Golden Creme Luster, Seashell Pink Sateen, and Merlot Sateen. I wasn't able to get swatches for me since the crowd was getting a bit out of control at the counter.

Overall, another great collection from Laura Mercier. I'm a huge fan of natural soft pink/peachy shades so this collection is right up my aisle. As for my favorites, I have to say Soft Pink and Lotus Pink Lip Glazes are definitely on top of the list.

Bottom Line: Check out the new limited edition Sheer Creme Colors. You will find the texture quite surprising and fun. The lip glazes are all limited edition with great pigmentation. Violet blush fiends may love Soft Iris while peachy pink lovers will gravitate towards Sweet Mandarin.

When it comes to beauty GWPs, I am a total sucker for mini lip products. They are so easy to throw into my purse without adding too much weight or taking up too much room. These provide me the opportunity to try out the products before having to make a full commitment. I personally have gone back to purchase the full size product many times after using a mini lipstick/glossimer.

So tiny but so cute!

As you already know, I absolutely adore Chanel's Glossimers. They are non sticky and have incredibly beautiful shimmers. I was thrilled to find a mini glossimer in Spark, a well-known shade from the permanent line in a recent GWP from Nordstrom. Gorgeous isn't it?

Sparks is a deep berry fuchsia with gold shimmers. It looks a tad deceiving in the tube but you can really see the fuchsia color on the wand.

The next cute item is a Rouge Dior Lipstick #644. I don't personally own any Dior lipsticks so this was a nice opportunity to try out the product. This is a beautiful glossy red.

Here are swatches of Chanel Spark and Rouge Dior lipstick #644. Spark is not as red in comparison but both are gorgeous in their own way. The Rouge Dior lipstick felt really nice and moist on my lips.

Last up is Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment SPF15. I was incredibly excited to find this in Sephora's Birthday gift set. I have always wanted to try the lip treatment seeing how popular it is with the beauty community. It felt super smooth and buttery on my lips. I was in love instantly. Unfortunately, the love affair lasted for about 20 minutes. For some strange reason, my lips became uncomfortably dry and started to peel shortly afterward. I am sad to say this simply did not work for me. Perhaps it's the SPF ingredient or just something else that triggered the allergic reaction. I truly envy those of you who can enjoy what this product has to offer.

Guerlain Sun In The City Summer 2012 Collection Swatches and Review

The past couple of weeks have been insanely busy for me so luckily there hasn't been any major collection launches. This past weekend, I ran into Guerlain's Sun In the City Collection at Neiman Marcus. I think every year Guerlain launches a new set of Terracota bronzers but this particular collection has a couple of special items.

One of the most anticipated item is the Golden Glimmer Powder which retails for $70USD. The design is unquestionably gorgeous!

Out of the entire collection, I only chose 3 items to swatch - the Golden Glimmer Powder and two Terracotta Blush Sun Shimmer Highlighters. I thought these were the 3 unique items that we haven't seen in the past.

Right off the bat, I went straight to the Golden Glimmer Powder. Its texture is simply divine. Despite the high price, I felt that there are a lot of product in the compact. It felt luxurious even from the first swatch. The Golden Glimmer Powder provides a smooth golden sheen on the skin. To me, it's more of a highlighter that will look beautiful on top of a blush or bronzer.

Sunny Pink and Spicy Coral ($41USD) are both liquid blushes that come in a slender tube. One small pump gets you a great amount of pigmentation as shown in the swatch. Sunny Pink is a peachy pink with gold shimmer. Spicy Coral is an orange with gold shimmer.

Both blushes are beautiful and can be sheered out. I am more drawn to Sunny Pink because I find Spicy Coral a tad too orange. Sunny Pink is the shade that is more universally flattering for all skin tones.

I think the color palette in this collection is so girly and pretty, just like the gorgeous flower in the background.

Overall, I like the shades in Guerlain's Sun In the City Collection. I'm not sure that they are entirely unique but they are quite pretty.

Bottom Line: Check out Sun In The City at your local Guerlain counter. I'm sure it's slowly making its way into other department stores. The Golden Glimmer Powder is limited edition so if you know you want it, I suggest placing an order right away. I did not purchase it because I typically do not use gold highlighters. Both liquid blushes are nice but I'm not sure about the wear time. On my hand, both wiped off pretty easily after 15-20 mins. I'm not sure if that's a good thing seeing how they didn't leave a single stain mark behind.

Chanel Roses Ultimes de Chanel Collection Swatches and Review

Chanel Roses Ultimes de Chanel Collection is now available both online and at Nordstrom counters. I wasn't expecting these to be released until later this month so this was definitely a good surprise. All of the images were taken with the phone's camera but I did try to get the colors as accurately as possible. I also had to remove all of my current nail polish to try out the 4 new shades at the counter. Thus, my advance apologies for the less than stellar cuticles and paint job.

First off, I absolutely adore the display from the collection. The swirly design is rather different and chic. I was also pretty excited to see the colors in person. First up are the glossimers ($29.50USD). Right off the bat I can tell 3 of the 6 shades are on the lighter, paler side. There are also 3 shades with shimmer and 3 without.

Surprise is a pale white with shimmer. This is more of a lipstick topper to add shine and shimmer.

Plaisir is a pale milky peach. It is the most deceiving in the tube. I was expecting it to have a bit more color. Again, this is a lipstick topper.

Volupte is a milky coral-peach that is not as intense as it looks in the tube either. This has no shimmer and is a light peach on my lips. I think this will look lovely on top of Chintz or Peregrina to enhance the lipstick.

Amour is quite lovely. It is a peachy pink with shimmer. On the lips by itself, I can't detect any color, only the shimmer is visible. Again, this is a lipstick topper that will be lovely with Jersey Rose.

Desir is a watermelon berry with shimmer. I like the shade but I'm not sure it's particularly unique. It has the slightest hint of color and a lot of shimmer on the lips.

Jalousie is the most opaque out of the 6. It has no shimmers but is a lovely berry fuchsia. I like this shade the most since I haven't seen very many opaque glossimers from Chanel lately.

Next up are the nail polishes in Attraction, Distraction, Tentation, and Frisson.

Attraction is a pearly white that is streaky. If you can look past the streaks, this is actually rather pretty from a distance.

Distraction is the perfect summer coral shade. It applies quite smoothly and is nicely opaque after 2 coats.

Frisson is a huge disappointment for me. I was really looking forward to this shade but was let down by the formula. It needed 3 coats to be fully opaque and the overall finish is clumpy. I tried it on 2 fingers and both had the same clumpy effect. The milky pale pink shade is also not flattering on me at all. On the plus side, this is the only shade that has visible shimmer on the nail.

Tentation is a berry fuchsia that is not the same as Rouge Carat. Rouge Carat is red whereas this is more fuchsia. It is opaque with 2 coats.

Overall, I am quite disappointed with the Roses Ultimes de Chanel Collection. While most of the shades are lovely, I don't think I was particularly blown away by any of the items. Chanel has released many unique, fashion-forward les vernis in previous collections and these just don't seem to be on the same level. I think most of the nail polish shades are dupable from other lines for a lower price point. At $26USD a bottle, I was expecting a lot more. As for the glossimers, Jalousie is the most opaque out of the 6.

Bottom Line: While the collection has many wearable items, there are no must-haves in my opinion. If I have to pick, I would have Distraction, Jalousie, and perhaps Amour on the top of my list. For those on a budget and have the chance to see this in person, I highly recommend doing so before handing over your credit card.

MAC Ricky and Nicki for Viva Glam & MAC Tendertone Swatches

MAC Ricky and Nicki for Viva Glam is now available at Nordstrom counters for purchase. The lipstick retails for $14.50USD and the clear lip conditioner is $15USD. Along with the new Viva Glam products, I also swatch the new tendertones from Shop, Shop, Shop and Cook, Cook, Cook Collection.

The Ricky and Nicki lipstick is not as cool-tone compared to the previous release. This is a deeper and warmer pink, which I think will be flattering on most skin tones. It has great pigmentation as well. The lip conditioner is clear and has no color.

In terms of the Tendertones Lip Balms ($15USD), Purring and Hot N Saucy both do not have any shimmers. I used a brush to do the swatches to build up as much color as I can. They are quite sticky and has a strong sweet fragrance. Hush Hush and Tread Gently both have gold shimmers. I think these are better as lipstick toppers. They are not as opaque compared to Purring or Hot N Saucy.

Overall, both Ricky & Nicki and MAC Tendertone Lip Balms are pretty but not necessarily must-haves for me.

MAC Vera Collection Swatches and Review

MAC officially launched the Vera Collection today along with Shop, Shop, Shop and Cook, Cook, Cook. I was more drawn to Vera because the shades are more subtle and easier to pull off compared to SSS, CCC for me. Both collections are now available for purchase.

The Vera Collection reminds me of MAC's Spring Colour Forecast Collection, which was the first to launch Crushed Pigments. These cost $34USD for 4 different shades. It's a pretty good deal considering each color costs less than $9 and you get plenty of pigments in the jar.

First up is Butterfly Party, which includes a glittery teal, a blue-based purple, violet, and mossy green. I wasn't particularly impressed with this stack when I swatch it dry. I think they will be much better wet, especially the blue-based purple shade.

Strawberry Patch is actually quite pretty for those who love pink pigments. One of the shades has a lot more glitter compared to the rest but overall, these are nicely pigmented.

As a taupe/brown lover, I liked Aloha pigment stack the most. The orange/copper and gold shades are both beautiful.

I tried both of the pearl matte powders on my face for comparison. Sunday Afternoon is more cool toned and pink on me. It applies more like a pale pink blush and doesn't have as much sheen compared to Flower Fantasy. On my cheek, Flower Fantasy is unquestionably lighter and is more of a highlighter. It has a much brighter sheen compared to Sunday Afternoon. I picked up FF instead since I didn't need another pink blush. However, I think Sunday Afternoon will look very nice on pale/light skin tone ladies.

The Pearlglide Intense eyeliners are creamy, pigmented, and has great staying power. Some of these shades are re-promoted from past collections. One of the most popular shades is Undercurrent, which got sold out almost instantly the last time it was released.

Here they are again in different lighting although the image on the top is the most color accurate.

I did swatch the plushglasses but they were all relatively sheer that it was difficult to capture on camera. Surprisingly, the most opaque was Confetti, a shade that I've seen many times from MAC.

Overall, MAC Vera has something for everyone. The colors are suitable for all skintones and is not too bright or bold.

Bottom Line: Check out the Pearlglide Eyeliners and pick up at least one shade. My top pick is Black Swan since it's a beautiful shade that I haven't seen from other lines. The closest I can think of is Chanel's Black Shimmer, which is more black in comparison. Undercurrent is also very popular as well as Petrol Blue. The Pearlmatte Powders are pretty but not necessarily must-haves. If you're looking for a highlighter, Flower Fantasy is the one to check out. If you want a cool-tone pink blush with a tad of a sheen, Sunday Afternoon would be more fitting. Plushglasses are a skip for me. I don't use pigments much but any of the 3 are good choices depending on your preference of colors.

Dior Capture Totale One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum Review

I'm not sure about you, but I think facial expressions are fun. You can tell right away how someone is feeling simply based on an eye squint, a slight frown, or a simple smirk. Most say "I wear my heart on my sleeves" while I say "I wear my emotions on my face". Although facial expressions are very helpful in expressing how I feel, they seem to overstay their welcome as I get older. The first signs of aging are rapidly becoming more and more visible, especially on my forehead. I have been on a mission in the past couple of months to find the perfect anti-aging serum. Lo and behold, I think I might have stumbled onto a hidden gem that has surely turned my little frown upside down.

I vaguely remember doing a search for anti-aging products on Sephora and ran into Dior's One Essential Super Boosting Serum. It has raving reviews with a whopping 4.5 stars out of 5. Everyone seems to love this product, touting it to be a miracle worker for their aging skins. I was skeptical but definitely curious. I went to the local Nordstrom counter and asked for samples of the serum just to be on the safe side. After all, this is not exactly cheap at $95USD for 1 oz.

I came home and excitedly ripped open the first packet expecting little to nothing. I applied the serum at night to "let it work its magic" and went to bed. The next morning, I could not believe what I saw when I looked in the mirror. Those pesky visible fine lines on my forehead? 90% diminished. I literally had to squint really hard to even see them. It was simply amazing! Without hesitation, I quickly placed an order for the limited edition deluxe bottle.

When I read the ingredients in the list, I was definitely bummed to see Alcohol listed as the 4th ingredient. I'm not a fan of alcohol and it has been known to break me out. I will be totally honest, this did cause 1-2 pesky pimples within the first 3 days of use. However, as I continue to use up my sample packets, the breakouts stopped and my skin just looks better and better each day.

The original size bottle of 1.0oz retails for $95USD while the deluxe 2.5oz version costs $150USD. Below is size of the the large version on the palm of my hands. It is rather big and is meant to last for an entire year.

Each bottle comes with a simple pump that easily dispenses the serum.

The serum is milky white and is slightly sticky. You'll feel the stickiness on your hand when you apply the serum, but it doesn't feel that way on the skin.

Once applied, the serum absorbs into the skin instantly, leaving it nice and smooth. I love to use this at night after using my toner. So far, it is the only serum that produces instant result by smoothing my fine lines. My skin glows when I wake up every morning.

Overall, I am a huge fan of Dior's One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum. I think it is worth every penny because it works so well for my skin. Please do keep in mind that we are all different and what works for me may or may not work for you. As a long time user of La Mer, I have to say this beats La Mer by far in the anti-aging department. I have been using this everyday for the past 2 weeks and I love it.

Bottom Line: I highly recommend stopping by a Dior counter or Sephora to ask for some samples before taking the plunge. You may experience some small breakout at the beginning but they will go away by the 2nd week of use. This serum is amazing for diminishing fine lines and it helps skin look so much more radiant.

MAC Kissable Lipcolour Swatches and Review

As I'm sure most of you have already heard, MAC will soon release a large collection call Shop Shop Shop, Cook Cook Cook. There is a huge offering of various different products ranging from Tendertones, MAC Fluidlines, lipsticks, and eyeshadow quads to creme blushes. Out of the numerous products to be released, the Kissable Lipcolours are one of my favorite lip formulas from MAC. I originally picked these up from the Peacocky Collection.

Kissable Lipcolours retail at $19USD for 5g/0.17oz.

Unlike the traditional MAC lipglasses, these come in a slender long tube with a doe foot applicator.

The formula is similar to a liquid lipstick but goes on smoothly without drying out the lips. I usually use the applicator to apply the colors directly onto my lips. These have the usual vanilla scents but don't smell like plastic after a couple of uses, which is a huge plus for me. I only own 3 out of the 5 shades that are going to be included in the SSS, CCC collection - Woo Me, So Vain, and Scan-delicious. However, I figured I should show you all of the shades in case these get released again in the future.

So Vain is a peachy pink that provides the natural MLBB look. This color is flattering on all skin tones but especially so for light to medium skin tones. I remember this was sold out quickly when it was first released.

Woo Me was the star of the Peacocky Collection. It is a beige pink that provides a lovely nude lip. If I remember correctly, it was the first to be sold out and is highly sought after. On me, it does create a true nude lip with just enough pink so I don't look like a corpse.

Scan-delicious is a bold fuchsia that is surprisingly very flattering on my skin tone. It can certainly be sheered out with a lip brush.

Strut Your Stuff is a blue based red that is not as coral as it seems in the swatches. For some reason, I can't seem to get the correct color to show up on this one. This shade is intense and definitely not for the color shy!

Temper Tantra is one of my favorite shades for a rosy MLBB look. It is a deep brown rose that is similar to MAC's recent release, Pillow Talk.

Exxx-Hibitionist is a bright coral that is much bolder compared to So Vain. I find myself having to blot quite a few times just to tone down the color on my lips.

All of the swatches shown are done with only 1 swipe of the brush. As you can see, these Kissable Lipcolours are quite pigmented. Below is a scrub test after the colors have been on my arm for about 20 minutes.

Overall, I am a fan of MAC's Kissable Lipcolours. The colors are wearable and leave behind a nice soft stain. I do recommend prepping your lips prior to application if you have really dry lips. The overall wear time for me is about 4-5 hours if I don't eat any greasy food. It wears pretty well with drinking, especially with the darker shades.

Bottom Line: Do check out the Kissable Lipcolours in the upcoming Shop Shop Shop, Cook Cook Cook Collection. There is a shade that's flattering for everyone whether you're looking for a nude color or a bright, bold red. Woo Me and So Vain are two very popular shades that will probably sell out quickly like last time. If interested, I would nab these 2 first before they're all gone.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Aventure, Chance, Monte-Carlo, Royallieu Swatches and Review

When Chanel released the first set of Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks, I was the first in line at my local counter to pre-order Boy (reviewed here). I did not purchase any additional Rouge Coco Shines until the release of Royallieu, which then sparked my desire for more. Recently I picked up 3 shades from the Duty Free stores to add to my collection - Chance, Monte-Carlo, and Adventure. These all retail for $32USD and can be purchased on Chanel's website or from counters such as Nordstrom, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Saks, etc.

Adventure (57) is a glossy rose pink with gold shimmers. This is more pink compared to Boy and is really great when paired with a neutral eye and a soft pink blush.

Royallieu (58) is a glossy pale mauve that pairs really well with a smokey eye. For me, this is the best "nude" lipstick without making me look like a corpse. This is also a Chanel online exclusive shade.

Monte-Carlo (62) was purchased during my "I crave for color" phase. It is a coral based red that fits perfectly for those who are generally afraid of red lipsticks. It definitely provides a nice punch of color that is quite pretty.

Chance (56) is a bumblegum pink that is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It is a beautiful spring shade that pairs well with both smokey and neutral eyes.

Isn't Chance gorgeous?

As you can see from the tube, Adventure has gold shimmers, Monte-Carlo and Royallieu have silver shimmers, and Chance has no shimmers.

In the swatches, Royallieu looks much more vibrant compared to the pale mauve in the tube.

In the swatch below, you can see the shimmers in Adventure and Royallieu and very small shimmers in Monte-Carlo.

Overall, I really like the shade selection from the Rouge Coco Shine line. I am always in search for the best pink lipstick and I think Adventure, Chance, and Royallieu all fit that criteria. I also really love how moisturizing these feel compared to the Rouge Coco formula. Despite my love for the texture and color, I still find the wear time of these lipsticks quite disappointing. I wish they would last longer like the Rouge Allures or Rouge Cocos. Whenever I wear these, I find myself re-applying several times a day.

Bottom Line: I tread lightly with Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks because while I love the shades, I still have a tough time shelling out $32.50USD (increased from $32USD) for lipsticks that cannot last through a cup of coffee. However, if you don't mind the short wear time, are looking for the perfect MLBB glossy lip effect, and love lipsticks that feel more like a balm, Rouge Coco Shines have just the right formula for you.
