First Scene with Twisted Monk is UP!!!

Alright people! Gather round now, gather round! It's time for Scene 1 with your host, Merrick, and the infamous Twisted Monk!

That's right, the first scene from last summer is finally live in the Members Only area. *glee!*

I could not be more pleased with how it turned out; Monk did some really awesome ties, my photographer captured really lovely tones and compositions, and I had a nice relaxing hammock of rope around me. ;D Makal was nearby operating the camcorder for Monk's own media endeavors... I'm sure it overheard some pretty amusing conversation as we quickly set to work putting me in rope, not an hour after meeting for the first time. :)

And yes--in case you REALLY have to ask--that rope is indeed real; nothing but the finest hemp from Twisted Monk! You gotta love that stuff. :)

Next Up: Light Dusting

Alright, I have a confession to make: I've fallen a bit behind. Only a week, though. See, I started doing the 365 project on Flickr, where you take a picture of your self/your life every day and post it, etc. I've always kind of felt it's like NaNoWriMo, commitment-wise, though in reality it's not one month but a whole year. So, I've been focusing a lot on that. But it's ending up to be quite a fun exercise, all around. It's keeping my imagination flowing, and thanks to my new Gorillapod tripod, I'm doing lots more experimentation with photography (more options on where to shoot). I'm thinking that it could work out to where at least one of my photos each week is from a set that I'll post here... but, we'll see how that goes. No promises; don't want to set my goals *too* high. I know it's going to be an ordeal managing one image a day, period.

So, since we're just over a week into the new year (I started the 365 project on the 1st of the month), that means there's last week's set to introduce. I did get it up in the members area fairly quickly, thanks in part to the simplicity of the editing for this particular set. Due to assorted server issues and just being busy, I didn't get to do any write up for it until today. So if you've not seen the set yet, go check it out!

Essentially, we spent about two weeks in Portland getting royally snowed on. And it was pretty awesome. I was pleased as punch at least; the rest of Portland (and surrounding areas) was perhaps not as accepting of the situation. To be fair, we were snowed in for two weeks... Makal was working from home, the grocery store was running out of certain meats and produce, and the buses weren't running because of the 3" of solid ice on the roads. That ice also meant that Makal and I didn't get our Thinkgeek christmas presents to each other delivered until nearly New Year Day, because UPS wasn't making rounds. Such craziness! More proof of the snow is in my Portland Arctic Blast! set on Flickr. :D

Alright dahlingz; I am getting prepared to release the first of the scenes I shot with Twisted Monk. If everything goes to according to plan I will be getting those uploaded tomorrow! See ya then...

I am finally getting the originals from all four scenes of the shoot I did with Twisted Monk during the summer of 2008. I swear, it took Monk less than an hour after I first emailed him about the previews to have some up on his blog. Eep! He moves pretty quick for a frozen Seattlite!

I hate to be bested, so I tried getting in here right away to post some of my own faves for teasers, but I ran in to publishing issues with the Blogger/Google servers and was delayed. Boo. But, now the problem has magically fixed itself, so let the teasing begin! Yay!

To jog your memory, we did four scenes that day. The first was a horizontal suspension (aftershot above), then a complete inversion (immediate below), a sort of predicament set-up with some time off the ground (middle below), and then a big ol' punching bag and candle wax scene to end the day (bottom).

You guys... seriously, I know I've been saying this since the shoot but y'all are gonna flip your lid once I have some time to get all the goodies up in the Members Only area! (I should begin uploading stuff this week.) This is SO just the beginning.

I'll post again when each new set is up; first I need to sort and watermark the full-size images from my lovely photographer Todd (didn't he do a smashing job?!). In the meantime, I have a video game to go be addicted to...

Another New Set! "When"

And then I forget to post the updates. ^^; Okay well actually, I got really sick with the flu and couldn't be arsed to do much of anything. But I'm mostly better now, just a lingering cough and headache, so that is good. I hope those of you who are also battling seasonal illness get better soon. :D

Earlier this month (wow, I can't believe we're halfway through it already) I posted another new set, When. This was a semi-impromptu self shoot that was inspired by some awesome sex I had that morning; I talk about my thoughts behind the shoot here.

I'm frustrated lately because I realize there's still a lot I need to do with this site... should have done, really. I lack drive though. I'm terrible at motivating myself. I get to a point where something is... satisfactory, usable, able to fulfill its intended function, and then I leave it be until I'm bored with it's lack of functionality and I begin anew. Yet most of the time, these aspects that are functioning could be tweaked and refined to the point of not just functioning, but... oh I don't know, what's a step above "functioning"? :P I really need to get my act together and I know it. I'm too easily distracted by my own world. I bet you can guess what sort of resolutions I'll be making for the coming new year...

Oh Winter, how you taunt me with your long hours of darkness. *sigh*

New Set: Election Day, New Domain, and some other stuff

Now that I've had some time to wrap my brain around this site after that outage, I feel like I'm starting to get back into the swing of things. Okay well, for some reason the blogging process continues to feel really foreign to me, but I'll push through, in the name of some much needed updates...

First up on the ballot (Haha it's a pun! Wait, you don't get it yet...) is the new set of pics, which I shot in the middle of the day on November 4th when I was really tired of hearing about the election. (Now: haha wasn't that a great pun?!) I uploaded a few to Flickr under the title "Today is Not a Special Day", but now that feels too long and sarcastic so a simple "Election Day" it is.

Relevant short story: I actually managed to first upload that set without watermarking it and didn't realize it until a week later. The reason? One of my fave guys and someone I've known for years, I'll just call him Oz, is a huge fan of bush and really wanted to see more pictures like this one (NSFW, like it matters to you?) and... since his birthday was coming up, I was happy to post the rest of the set with--yes--more bush. So Oz, I know I'm saying this late but Happy Birthday man! ;D

Now, as I mentioned in my last Update, I recently bought a new domain name for myself. And it's been functioning for, oh, about a week now, and running smoothly at that (though I continue to tweak and poke at it, which is inevitable) so I am excited to finally announce it here! OH GOD WE'RE FINALLY BACK

Updated: the gallery is now working too. Yeah!

Um, hi! Been a while, hasn't it? Yeah, about that...

Over a month ago, I purchased a new domain name to begin an expansion of the NaughtyMerrick.com website. When attempting to attach the domain to my hosting account, something went wrong on the back-end of the servers, and cPanel started spitting out error messages. Really confusing, strange error messages.

I asked Makal for help but he was stumped. I asked the guy who coordinates my hosting for help, and he was stumped. But he said he would work on it. Eventually I just went over his head with the issue and started working directly with the Lunarpages server admins. And finally, overnight, the issue was resolved. Sort of.

Of course, being corporate tech support, they feel obliged to go "above and beyond" in the name of servicing my... *ahem* issue. This means that they took completely unnecessary actions that made my job of recovering from the month of downtime that much more difficult. But hey, at least you can see this.

As it stands, galleries are down. This is because I am busy behind the scenes transferring files and rearranging permissions to point to the right subdirectories. Technical jargon, mumbo-jumbo, all that jazz. I'm working on it, and it's getting fixed--hopefully that's all you need to know.

You know, guys, I am really, truly, really fucking sorry about this last batch of downtime. Wish I could relay in polite terms how frustrating it's been for me. I hate waiting for other people to fulfill their obligations so that I can fulfill my own. I hate being let down when I give people the benefit of the doubt. And I strongly dislike tech support (except Makal, of course). Through all of this I was considering switching to yet another host but god, that'd be what, 3 hosts this year? At the least. And another week of setting up databases to make everything work right. At least this time I knew that my data wasn't lost, and thus I never gave up hope. Sorry for this being such a pain.

On the upside, now that NaughtyMerrick.com is back online, I can start back down the road of progress. Woo, progress! Like I said, I've got some expanding to do... but before I even revisit the HTML I've had sitting in the wings I am diving head on into the Gallery issues. And I'm gonna kick their butt.

Oh, and be aware: after months of speculation and hazy memory, I've started to get previews from the shoot with TwistedMonk back in August. And oh. my fucking. gawd. Y'all are gonna flip over this shoot. ;D Soon my pretties, soon!

New Set: Fresh Bruises

I just uploaded a set of pictures taken just two days after the recent motorcycle accident... you'll find it right at the top of the Members Only gallery! It's a pretty simple set, given that every picture is of my backside since that's where the bruises are. So if you like girl butts, bruises, or me (and you're here so I know you do! ^_^) then DO check out these new pics!

Blogging the Editing Process

Yesterday I concluded a little project I had started in early July, just a whim really, and it got put on hold for a month while life went all crazy on me (again). But yes, the exciting conclusion to "Blogging the Editing Process" has finally arrived! Exciting indeed.

As the post titles might betray, I tried to cover each step, start to finish, of what it takes me to get a new set online(okay, sometimes I just thoroughly "gloss over" a particular part). It's a little... nerdy, I guess you'd say, considering that much of it is just technical jibber-jabber, and not so much with the sexy "ooh I touch myself and take a picture" talk. Meh.

I did learn a bit about my own practices during this project. One, and the most obvious "no duh" lesson is that I am easily distracted. I mean, not just distracted, but when my brain changes courses it's like I never look back and am content to just let the story trail off into the wind. But I'm working on that, on the whole "finishing what you start" thing. I mean hey, I finished this right?! :D Well, anyway, I also learned that I am indecisive and do a lot of backtracking while I edit. Probably because I have no idea what I'm doing back here. But yaknow, it's a learning experience. And those are cool.

You probably won't see me do any step-by-step series again, because damn it practically triples the workload of just editing the damn photos. I'm not kidding you; I probably would have had the set posted much earlier if I hadn't near-overwhelmed myself by writing up the process. Nonetheless, I do enjoy the "time lapse" images of a single picture as it goes through editing. That's pretty interesting (to me/for me to create), moreso than a simple "before and after" juxtaposition. So I'll probably do that again, maybe even for each set. And there I go being all ambitious again... For you non-members out there, here's an abbreviated version of the timelapse: It's 4200x800 pixels big and shows 7 steps, as opposed to the Members Only version that is 6600x800 and has 11 different versions. Pretty dorky stuff. ^_^

Feeling Quiet

Just a little note to those who listen: I've been feeling kind of quiet as of late, which you may have noticed. Nothing going on really, just sometimes I need to take a mental break from life on the Internet and not feel so compelled to interact with it 1440/24/7/365.2425 (i.e. every minute of every day). Posting inside will be light this week, but I will be wrapping up the editing project and posting the full set in the Members Only gallery, so woo! And I'll talk about some other stuff, too. Yep.

Also, just an FYI, I'm planning on spending this week nervous as fuck all before I head to Seattle on Saturday to meet and work with the infamous Twisted Monk for the first time. Huzzah! I mean, err, hmm. What is a nervous-yet-wholly-excited exclamation I could make? I'm pretty sure the dude plans to put me through the works, so to speak, but I'll be damned if I don't have a few tricks up my sleeve for him. Hmm, I hope he doesn't read this... o_O

'Twas a Crazy Date

And here I thought that I'd totally missed any chance of fun on this year's crazy date, July 6 2008 (which can be written as 20080706). But I opened the feeds and, to my surprise, saw a picture of myself! It was posted by sex-cheerleader extraordinaire, Miss Violet Blue! I provided visual entertainment for her post on girls and guns, The Sexy Geek Philologist and the AK-47.

The photo she used was from my recent work with PK Ripper, which I mentioned here.

I had to look up the word "philology". It has something to do with the scholarly study of historical linguistics and the evolution of language. You'd think I'd know that word, since I'm so keen on modern language and how the Internet is influencing youth culture.

K thx Violet Blue, ur teh r0xx0rz! Keep an eye on her blog, as I plan to bribe her with more naughty, exclusive photos of myself. Maybe she'll be nice and post them for you guys, too? ;)

Signups/Member Login Working (Again)

After moving to my new host's server, I wrote to CCBill asking them about re-enabling the whole CGI license thingy that they do that allows people to log in to the Members Only area (there are technical terms in there I won't pretend to understand, even if I do). I got a prompt response on how to do the work on my own, but when I asked for more help I got zilch. I waited a week before breaking down and callng their support line. I doubt I'm the only person in the world who dreads calling tech support, but email wasn't getting me anywhere. Thankfully, a super nice guy named James helped me out and painlessly (for me--I hope it was painless on his end) solved my login issues within 5 minutes. It was awesome. Except the classical music playing while I was on hold; that sounded awful over the treble-tastic headset. Anyway, here are the morals of this story:

member logins and new member signups are working correctly
I now know how to prepare my CGI dealy-bobs for future server transfers, and avoid downtime
calling CCBill's support is not bad at all, and you should never hesitate to do so!

P.S. - additional thanks to the fellow who helped me later in the day; sorry I can't remember your name! But you were super nice too. Glad to know that even though the CCBill site is difficult to navigate, there are useful people on the other end of the phone. :D

New Set: Black Cat Mask

Now that things are going smoothly post transitioning to a new host, I'm able to start uploading some new photos! This newest set, featuring a cat mask I made from record vinyl, is probably one of my favourite short sets yet: 17 pictures (nipples up, not even full body shots) of this mask I simply adore! I never intended to take enough photos to really make a "set", but I ended up with so many shots I thought were yummy I just had to share the kitty love. It was an awesome craft project too... even if it broke my big toe. :P I'm sure mask fetishists, catgirl lovers, and geeks in general will be fond of this set too. :)

New Work w/ Peter Kim

I met up with PK again last night for our second shoot; long ago he had asked about shooting me in the catsuit and we finally got around to doing it. :) I like this picture because it makes me think of a cutscene from a video game or some dramatic spy movie. One last moment of solemn contemplation before rounding the corner and killing tons of biker Nazis...

Walking around in a full tactical belt/harness set is quite an interesting thing... really brings out the swagger in a girl. ;) Photo copyright Peter Kim 2008.

I won't be publishing any of this shoot in the Members Only area, but they'll be up in an extended portfolio section once I get around to (re)making it. Also, my catsuit is getting up there in lives lived... looks like it's on its seventh now, only a few lives (and wears) left. Gallery Still Undergoing Renovation

So, here we are, the end of June 2008, and I'm almost ready to reopen the site *officially*.

Yes, I've been trying to recover from my previous host's server crashes this entire time. Okay, some of the time has been spent sulking about how fucked up things kept happening, but I'm over that now.

The last step before allowing new sign-ups is getting the Members Only gallery back up to par with what it had been right after the server crash, during my first "recovery"... that is, before my hosts fucked up my account some more. I think they probably /spit on the server box for good measure, I'm not sure. But I'm now officially done with those fucktards. I think the fastest response I ever got from their support department was in closing my account; they are just today getting back to a voicemail Makal left last Thursday regarding how to cancel the billing, so obviously they are uncoordinated on top of being incompetant! Huzzah.

Anyway, over that. I'm just working on uploading past photosets for now, and getting the gallery layout to look how I want it. Meta info like date shot and set summaries will be done once everything's uploaded. Then it's back to nothing but new sets, baby! I cannot wait. :D

July 1st is in a week; I might hold back until then, and make it my Official Grand Re-Opening Extravaganza!!! or something like that.

New Gallery!

Yes, new gallery--singular, not plural. Last week some issues popped up regarding the management system for the gallery (called Gallery2) and in my researching how to fix it, I realized that it was time to finally implement a change. The extent of this new Gallery2 installation has yet to be visible, but the project is going very well. :)

In the meantime, links on the Pics page won't be working, as they are pointing to an old system that isn't online anymore. It'll take me a bit longer to integrate this new install with the current layout, but I'm thinking it'll be sweet when it's done. :D The address for the Members Only gallery hasn't changed though... www.naughtymerrick.com/members/gallery!

The biggest change you'll see right now? A much prettier layout and navigation for browsing those sexy pics. Even though I'm not entirely done tweaking all the settings, I'm going to go ahead and reopen the gallery for members--as long as you guys bear with me over the next week while things get settled! xox

Gallery Down for the Weekend/Updates....

So, over the weekend one of the MySQL databases for the Members Only gallery went down. I contacted our host and got that fixed right quick, and the problem inspired me to do some needed technical maintenance on the gallery (and I found a neat new skin to use!). During my initial perusal of what needed to be done, I saw that there was a new version of the core module for the Gallery2 installation, which is logically the first update someone would do during tech maintenance.

But--surprise of all surprises--something went wrong. Even though I was using the upgrade method that the Gallery2 website says is the most reliable and thorough, something had to go wrong. And I could contact our host again, or I could use the weekend to reinstall the whole thing and do a certain upgrade project I've been thinking about for the site. And you know how I can be... once I conceive about how something could be better, it will never be good enough until then.

If everything goes right (and of course, it will!) gallery navigation will get better and more intuitive, and I'll be another step closer to bringing this site to a point where I can get back to producing content instead of thinking about how it needs to be improved. And that's good!

Merrick Monroe (me!) for Twisted Monk!

At the tail end of last year, I received a most unexpected email. Monk, of TwistedMonk hemp rope fame, had written me with a proposition. Would I be interested in doing some modeling of his swag? Soon I unwrapped a package and immediately donned my new favourite pair of undies, and what has become my "wear it anywhere, all the time" wife-beater top. Yes, I'm wearing it right now--under my Blogger hoodie, of course! ;)

Well I guess Monk liked the pictures I sent him, because then he asked if I'd be willing to let him tie me up. Hmm, let's think about that one. I like rope bondage, I like pervy nerdy boys. I see this as a win/win combination! What is even more super is that Monk s agreed to let me use all the pics from our collaborative efforts on this site. So my dahlinks, first you get a set of photos with me tied up in cute, comfy, sexy Twisted Monk swag, and next month I'll be working with him in person for some artsy bondage! Too awesome.

Business Goals for NM.com in 2008

I know I've said I'm not one for "New Year's resolutions", but I see no harm in setting out a needed list of goals and some time-frames for completing them. So I've started a series of posts in the Members Only blog, outlining what I'd like to see happen for NaughtyMerrick.com in the coming months, as well as some general concepts for future changes. I consider members investors in this business and website, so I feel you should be kept up to date on what's going on with it and what the current status of projects is. Think of it as your being the Red Sharpie-wielding boss, and me being the eager-to-please secretary. (James Spader references ftw!) There are only two posts in the series now, and I won't be posting here every time I make a goal-oriented post. But these posts will and should be the most referenced ones on this topic, as they outline short- and long-term goals, as well as go into detail.

Re: Missing Pics in Member Galleries

I doubt anyone has noticed this, but several of the photosets that are in the Members Only section are missing pictures. How do I know? Well, because they're missing the pics I used for previews! I guess I did some bad file managing there, I'm not sure. But I thought I'd put it out there that a) I do realize Member galleries don't have some of the preview pics, and b) I plan to fix this... when I can? Hmm, yeah. Adding this to my "to do" list. Wait, I don't have one of those... "Creating to-do list" is now at the top of my mental checklist of things to do! Egads, this is getting old.

w00t, here it is! I've officially made this the new index.htm page for naughtymerrick.com, which means that it is quite obvious to site visitors, no longer stashed away as some updates.htm file somewhere... ;)

I'm still working on getting the past content appropriately posted and labeled, so please bear with me. It'll be spiffy once it's done! And yes, I know there are still no comments. Email me if you have something to say!

There is also a new pricing structure... $12.95/mo is the basic, recurring plan, but it has a huge potential savings over time! I set it up so that members with recurring billing plans will drop from $12.95/mo to $10.10/mo over the first year, and it's a steady $10.10/mo after that.
