Six Nava/Breffle wrestlers entered a State Qualifier tournament: Kyle Denney, Dawson Winters, Jonathan Hammond, Danny Megathlin, Alex Gruenig, and Tommy Stupek. In total, they wrestled 23 matches winning four and losing 19. Although our winning percentage was low, five of our wrestlers were in their first or second year of action. Congratulations to Kyle, Jonathan, and Tommy for winning a match and Kyle (4th Place), Jonathan (1st Place), and Dawson (3rd Place) for qualifying for Little Kids State to be held on March 10th.

Northview Beginners

Dawson Winters and Thomas Harrison represented Nava/Breffle at the Northview Beginners Tournament. Dawson, a second-year wrestler, went 1-1 and took first place on a tie breaker. Thomas Harrison, a first-year wrestler, won both matches by pin for a first place finish. Congratulations to both Dawson and Thomas!

Black Knight Open

Nava/Breffle sent three wrestlers to the Black Knight Winter Classic and posted its best winning percentage yet! In total, we wrestled 12 matches and won 6. Each of the three wrestlers won at least one match and all wrestled well. After being pinned in his first match, Kyle Denney, as second-year wrestler, won his next two but was eventually eliminated in a 7-5 loss to the same wrestler who pinned him in his first match. Danny Megathlin, a first-year wrestler, wrestled in his first open tournament and narrowly lost his first match, convincingly won his second match, and was eliminated in his third match. Danny wrestled excellent for a first-year wrestler in an open tournament. Finally, Jonathan Hammond wrestled five matches as part of a six-man round robin bracket. After racing to a 12-2 record early in the season, the later half of the season has been much tougher for Jonathan who is now 15-9. However, he is learning valuable lessons and congratulations on winning three of five matches and a third place finish.

TOA Georgia Grind

Seven Nava/Breffle wrestlers took on their biggest challenge yet by entering USA Wrestling's Tour of America Georgia Grind event. Wrestlers from all of over the United States attended, including state and national champions. Competition was fierce and we only won one of 19 matches. However, the lessons learned were worth it. Congratulations to Joey Bertrand for winning one match. Also, we would like to recognize Alex Gruenig for entering as a first year wrestler and wrestling two very tough matches.

Hillgrove Open

The Carlson brothers attended the Hillgrove Open tournament wrestling a total of six matches while winning one. Both wrestled tough and we are proud of their effort.

Lovett Beginners Tournament

Eight Nava/Breffle wrestlers entered the Lovett beginners tournament including five first-year wrestlers: Peter Cole, Alex Gruenig, Will Levy, Sam Mahle, and Danny Megathlin. Alex, Will, Sam, and Danny all took first place posting a record of 16-0. In addition, Charlie Levy took second place with his only loss to Sam. Dawson Winters also took second place winning two matches and losing one. In total, Nava/Breffle wrestled 29 matches, winning 20 of them, and placing six wrestlers.

North Gwinnett Open

Jonathan Hammond represented Nava/Breffle at the North Gwinnett Bulldog Brawl. Jonathan was placed in a round-robin bracket with four other 10U, 120-pound wrestlers, where he won three matches and lost one for a second place finish. Jonathan's only loss was to Joshua Ruiter, who he also fell to at the Roswell Open; these two losses are his only losses for the year.

Exhibition versus Lakeside Viking Youth

Lakeside High School's Viking Youth program hosted an exhibition between clubs before the high school match. Over the past several years, Lakeside and Nava/Breffle have held joint practices and scrimmages, typically once or twice per season, and many times including St. Pius's middle school program. In total, we wrestled 30 matches, won 23 of them, and lost seven. It was a very good showing for our club and we are appreciating to the Viking Youth club for hosting us.

Northview Titan Classic Open

Nava/Breffle sent five wrestlers to the Northview Titan Classic Open and posted their best win percentage to date. In total, we wrestled 16 matches, winning 6 and losing 10. Wins were posted by Joey Bertrand, David Bertrand, Pete Carlson, and Jac Carlson. Both Joey and Pete won two matches each. The Carlson's were the only place winners with each taking fourth place. We were very proud of Jac Carlson's effort in that he wrestled three very tough matches, fought his way off his back, or refused to allow his opponent to turn him.

Sprayberry Beginners

Four wrestlers entered the Sprayberry Beginners Tournament. Overall, we posted a 9 and 3 record with two, first-place finishes, one second-place finish, and one third-place finish. Jonathan Kramer took third in his first tournament. Congratulations to Dawson Winters and Alex Gruenig for placing first and Danny Megathlin for placing second.

Roswell Open

The Roswell Junior Hornets Open hosted over 750 wrestlers. Nava/Breffle sent six wrestlers posting a record of four wins and 11 losses. Wins were posted by Joey Bertrand, David Bertrand, and Jonathan Hammond. Joey had the most wins at two. Jonathan was the only place winner at second.

Brookwood Bronco Classic Open

Nava/Breffle entered six wrestlers and wrestled a total of 14 matches, winning 2 and losing 12. Both of Harry Abraham's matches were decided in overtime. Joey Bertrand and Jac Carlson each won one match. Each wrestler is young for their age bracket and is facing more experienced competition but learning valuable lessons.

Dixie Nationals Rookie, Jefferson Classic Open, Pope Classic Open

Nava/Breffle entered wrestlers in three consecutive holiday tournaments from December 29th through December 31st. In total, five wrestlers participated. We wrestled a total of 23 matches, winning 8 and losing 15. Two of our wrestles placed. Congratulations to David Bertrand for placing 2nd in the Dixie Nationals Rookie and Jonathan Hammond for placing 1st in the Pope Classic.

Creekview Grizzly Open

Four of our wrestlers took advantage of the holiday break to wrestle in the Creekview Grizzly Open (a non scheduled tournament for the club). We wrestled a total of 14 matches, winning 6 and losing 8. Although none of our wrestlers placed, three won a match or more. Congratulations to Joey Bertrand for winning three matches and Sam Abrahams for winning two matches.

Kell Longhorn Beginners

Five wrestlers entered the tournament: four, first-year wrestlers and one, second-year wrestler. Overall, we posted a 9 and 5 record with two, first-place finishes, one second, and one third. Two wrestlers, Davir Monne and Sandor Monne, had only been wrestling for two weeks prior to the tournament; both wrestled well and showed great potential. Congratulations to Dawson Winters and Alex Gruenig for placing first, Sandor for placing second, and Danny Megathlin for placing third. Danny had the toughest bracket and wrestled five times, posting a 3 and 2 record to take third place.

Kell Longhorn Open

Nava/Breffle entered six wrestlers into the Kell Longhorn Christmas Classic and wrestled a total of 17 matches, winning 7 matches and losing 10. Four wrestlers won a match or more. Also, congratulations to Sam Abrahams for winning two matches and making it to the semi-final round in the winner's bracket.

Centennial Open

Nava/Breffle Wrestling entered the tournament with nine wrestlers and wrestled 26 matches, winning 10 matches and losing 16. Six of the nine wrestlers won at least one match. Congratulations to Jonathan Hammond for winning three matches and taking first place and Kyle Denney for winning two matches and taking fourth place. This was Nava/Breffle's second open tournament in its short history and was a significant improvement over the last where wrestlers won 2 of 12 matches. All of the wrestlers represented the club well and learned valuable lessons.

State Tournament Results

Five of our wrestlers attended state qualifier tournaments and all five qualified. Better yet, each won a match at this past weekend's Little Kids State Tournament at Milton High School. All wrestlers fear going "two and out" in a double elimination tournament. Congratulations to Jeremiah Collier, Jac Carlson, David Bertrand, Joey Bertrand, and Jack Brierley for their accomplishments this year in the state tournament. Each won a match and Jack Brierley won two matches before ultimately being eliminated. Great year for all of our wrestlers!

Fifteen of our wrestlers attended the Georgia Grind's True Beginners Tournament. As expected, the competition was fierce with wrestlers traveling in from neighboring states to attend the prior days tournament at South Paulding High School and continue wrestling the following day in either the Grind's open or beginner tournaments. Overall, we posted a combined record of 20-20. Five wrestlers were first year, including Max Stevens who had not wrestled in a tournament before. Jonathan Spratling earned his first win. Overall, our first year wrestlers did well with a combined record of 6-9. Congratulations to Jeremiah Collier and Jonathan Hammond for taking first and Harry Abrahams, Joey Bertrand, David Bertrand, Jac Carlson, and Kyle Denney for taking second. It was great year overall, and we are very thankful for being part of it.

Nava/Breffle End of Season Wrestling Banquet - Sunday, February 20th

Nava/Breffle will host an end of season banquet in the cafeteria at Dunwoody High School on Sunday, February 20th. The banquet will start at 1:00 pm and finish by 3:00 pm. All family members are welcome. There is no cost for club wrestlers; however, there will be a charge of $5.00 per family member up to $15.00 per family to help cover the cost of food and clean-up. We hope to see you all then.

We had 10 wrestlers attend the Brookwood Beginners Tournament, including two wrestlers that have never wrestled in a tournament before (Drew Koehler and Charlie Levy). Overall, we were 23 and 9 with three first place and five second place medals. Congratulations to Josh Carlson, David Bertrand, and Joey Bertrand for placing first, and Pete Carlson, Matthew Guest, Harry Abrahams, Charlie Levy, and Jac Carlson for placing second. Both Drew Koehler and Sam Abrahams wrestled tough and represented us well.
