What a wanker!

His thoughts on Flash don’t mention the millions of people, professionals, students and artists who are all using Flash (the actual program) as a creative outlet.  A lot of these same people probably all use macs too. Don’t piss us off!   Flash has been successful cos it’s the only half decent WYSIWYG program out there. He says “why not use modern technologies like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript?” What does he want?  All creative people to become programmers? Douche! Douche! Douche! Then he goes on to talk about protecting their software from third party apps.  The only reason I was able to pull off the Nawlz was because of third party plugins like Moses Supposes Fuse and Zigo Engines.  These types of plugins were designed by programmers to help non-programmers achieve sum technical shit. And since AS3 went ‘open’ the amount of 3rd party plugins proliferated and now there’s a bunch of cool plugins for navigation systems, particle systems, animation engines whatever.  I use the types of plugins all the time.  And he talks about Flash being a thing of the passed cos it doesn’t cater for touch.  Douche! You’re the reason it doesn’t cater for touch.  As if Adobe couldn’t add touch functionality to their flash editor.

I actually really like the ipad and would love to see people using their fingers to swim through the pages of a touch interactive Nawlz comic. And if I went down that path I would embrace the technology to create a unique touch experience that differs to the mouse-driven roll over experience of the web.  But to do that I have to invest a lot of money into getting programmers to recode all my hard work and I have to pay a fee to publish the app to the itunes store. Thats not easy.  And Steve says “Everyone wins”, obviously not.  There is no WYSIWYG for ipad, no timelines, no visual interface.  All these factors only make it harder for me to express myself.  I’m a baby of the multimedia age.  It only makes sense that I express my art using a visual multimedia interface.   And this whole interactive art thing is still in it’s infancy,  it needs support.    The only reason Nawlz stays alive is becausse I’ve been able to easily share it with an International audience for free and that audience has responded with encouragement, more ideas and even collaborations.  It seems to me like ipad’s only cut out for people with money who wanna make more money and that kind of person doesn’t sound like an artist to me.

The Mad Bionix forums have lit up.  Everybody’s asking, who’s responsible for the train crash?  Meanwhile up in the hills of the Nawlz District 5 Greenbelt, Skyman receives an unexpected visitor in the middle of the night.

Mad props go out to Hiroyasu Tsuri for his incredible Skyman illustrations. This collaboration made my job way more exciting. It’s always nice to see how someone’s interprets your story.  And usually I’m not too excited about colouring, but this made my job way more interesting.

Also, BIG thanks to Michael Fitzgerald (my good ol’ astro physicist buddy – the guy’s a goddam geniass) for his help co-writing the “Awakening Sphere” Theory.  You’ll be hearing more about that as the story moves along… oh yes.  Check out Fitz’s blog here.

Also a BIG thanks to Garry Cotton for his help colouring the city scenes.  I learnt a lot a lot of cool lighting tricks during these little jams sessions…
