The SEO begginers , in their attempt to increase the position in search engine results are commiting some mistakes with direct effects on site.In this post I will write about some mistakes that are commited frequently.

Ignoring Title tags

It’s one of the most common mistakes wtih directly negative effect in positioning your site in top search results.Most of the search engines are considering the title tag very important because the information inserted here is visible.So don’t let this empty or you must not include title tags like “Home Page” or “Welcome!” ,try to insert your keywords or some relevant words for your site/blog.

Irelevant Keywords

Some webmasters are using irelevant keywords just for increasing site’s traffic.If you want to develop an online business,the used keywords should have a great relevance for site’s content.It’s useless to use a keyword like “music” if your site is about “Web developing”.The users that are looking for music will visit your site and they will move on and the users that are looking for web developing will not find on Google your site for the “Web developing” keyword because you used “music” as keyword.

Spamming

This is an unethical practice,using repeatedly the same keywords in tags,in meta-tags and in content.This method is used to improve the position of a site artificially.Fortunately,the search engines are detecting those techniques and the sites that are spamming the search engines are penalized and their rank will be lower or even banned.So,you should not abuse by keywrods.

Invisible text and links

This is a method which tries tricking search engines.Web pages are full of links and keywords that are hidden for users but visible for search engines.The problem is that this tipe of tehniques are easily detectable and you can be banned from search engines if you use them.

Links from/for useless sites

It’s well known that many links to your site are rising your site’s value in the eyes of search engines,but not every link to your site it’s good.You can read more about Good Backlinks and Backlinks to avoid in one of my previous posts.If you get a backlinks from a site with reduced Page Rank will not help you very much in page listing and a link from an banned sites or unfunctionally site may damage your page.

HTML erors

If your site presents HTML errors,your site will be poorly ranked by search engines even if the content it’s well optimized.Loading speed will be lower and may appear some incompatibilities with some web browsers.The best way to avoid such situations is to validate your code before registering your site in search engines and directories.

Using non-canonical URLs

In the optimization process make sure that the URL of every page that is going to be indexed is a canonical one.This will positively affect the visibility of your site into search engines.

Excessive graphics within the page

The way that the search engines are reading your site is similar to the text browsers.A large amount of graphics does not help your site to be well ranked.It will negatively influence the download speed of the site and this thing will not be tolerated too much by your readers.Try to use a reach content in keywords instead of the excessive number of images. Also, for the used images, use another text in their description(including some keywords).

Here are some tips to help you start a successful online business:
1. BELIEVE: There is no magic/shortcut in an online business, which means you can’t just do it for doing sake. You first have to believe
it exists before all other things will follow. As in anything else, belief in an online business is very important because it will keep you focused and motivated: if you believe it exists and you definitely can get your share of it then you will always be motivated to work towards it.
2. DETERMINATION: Determination is a very important factor to be considered in an online business, it keeps you away from every distraction, it elevates loss of focus. Determination is like a promise made and is being remembered when you are about to lose focus.
Without determination, there is a low percentage of success in any online business.
3. DEDICATION: As any other factor, dedication is very important in an online business: dedication is what makes you put other things aside and focus on only one. Dedication can also be said to be concentration.
It is very good to be dedicated to an online business so as to achieve the highest possible result.
4. CONSISTENCY: Consistency is one of the most important factor to be considered in an online business. A business hardly survives without
consistency. You are not expected to do online surveys today and data entry tomorrow: if it is data entry you want, then do it with all you have everyday till you experience a change. If you are a blogger, you have to set a time for adding new articles to your blog, it can be everyday, every 3 days, but don’t let it be day 1,day 7,day 9,day30(you will observe that there is no consistency in this). Make sure you are regularly working on your online business in order not to make it an incomplete project that will eventually discourage you.
5. PATIENCE: This is the most important factor in any online business, don’t expect a business you started yesterday to bring in money today. You surely will make that money, but the question is are you patient enough to make the money. So many people will post to their website regularly but because the number of visitors to their website is not increasing yet they will abandon that “great to be” online business because of lack of patience. You may have 10 visitors a day, and still 10 after believing, being determined, dedicated and even after being consistent, but only patience can help you achieve that great result.
6. SELF DISCIPLINE: When it comes to online business, so many people are not ready to leave their comfort zone because of the stories they hear such as: “I made $10000 while sleeping” e.t.c. You have to leave your comfort zone, you have to discipline yourself, you have to leave that pleasure and go with the inconvenience in order to achieve that great dream, in order to experience online success. “LEAVE YOUR COMFORT ZONE”
7. TAKE CAUTION: This is especially talking to those who want to buy everything related to making money online, they want to join every paid membership site. Let me tell you, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”. Avoid every get rich quick scheme as much as possible, read the disclaimer on every website on which you will be buying a product so that your red eyes won’t bulg out when you get scammed.
8. KEEP LEARNING: I know you know everything when it comes to online business, but the key to success(i mean real success) is knowledge: and you only know what you ead(or hear/see). Read books of great men(and don’t let anyone tell you you can’t learn from your subordinates). Read other peoples blog, use Google, visit article sites, read anything readable(but not bad) and your increase in knowledge will really benefit your readers thereby making them increase their trust in you.
9. CUSTOMER PRIORITY: So many people fail because they think about their pockets first instead of their readers benefit. Give them what they want(value) and the will give you what you want(money). Share your knowledge with them: give them that info and forget about compiling it into a book and i can tell you it will pay for itself(if it is valuable)
10. BE RESPECTFUL: Your readers are humans too, valuable humans: Some of them even know far more than you know. They are not just some animals, and without them you are wasting your time(i mean you are valueless), so be respectful.

Optimizing URLs – Top 5 problems and base techniques

URLs are often ignored,treated whitout importance or even “ill-treated”, but the cruel truth it’s that the URLs are very important in optimizing a site.No matter if we talk about a more easy navigation on our blog or about some SEO advantages,the URLs are very important in our optimization.
So,in this post,we will discuss about usabillity problem and SEO problems that could be generated by URLs,how we can solve those problems.

1.The URL does not provide rapid informations about our blog ( usabillity )

Let’s take into account the following real URLs :

Mashable’s link shows the date that we will read a post about “Top mobile social apps” and the date that was posted,This are the most important informations that must be known from a link.

Taffikd tells us to guess if the subject is about social media marketing (smm), but we don’t know why the page it’s not working (not-working-2) so we must read the page to find out which is the problem.

Quelle’s URL does not offers too many informations about the page.You can read just a few word from his link,word like : shop, mode, damen, produktliste, but you can read those words just if you read the URL carefully.Why we must make this effort to understant the main words from URL ? An URL must provide to us as many informations as possible.

In my opinion,at this category,Mashable have the best URL.You can see what is article about and the posting date.

2.The URL is too long (usabillity,SEO,branding)

It’s not very hard to notice that an long URL it’s hard to read,remember and share .Especially, bloggers, tend to transform the titles in URLs without taking into account the lenght of URL. Here is a bad example,that must not be followed :

Another sites (especially bussines sites) are using very long URLs because they want to include as many keywords as possible in thei URL,without taking into account the readers.

Try to forget about the readers and let’s talk about how it’s affected your position in SERPs and how the search engines are considering those URLs.

Asked about long URLs,Matt Cutts answered like this : “If you use 3,4 or 5 keywords in one URL it’s perfectly normal, but if the URL becomes too long,it’s beggining to look suspicios,may be considered as SPAM.Our algorithms are beggining to give less importance for those additional words[...]It’s not very well to include many keywords in your URL,there are a lot of places on your page where you can include your relevant keywords which can be helpfull for your readers and which are not included at “keyword stuffing”

3.The URL is not static (SEO and usabillity)

A logn time we’ve thought that the search engines have a problem with understanding the dynamic URLs,but those things had evolved and Google say that since 2008 some progresses had be made, but “the dynamic URLs have the disadvantage that different URLs can have the same content”,that means different pages with duplicate content.

Here appears a little disabillity in CTR(Click-Throught Rate) terms, users beeing more tempted to click on an URL that gives more informations.

4.The URL contains unnecessary folders (usabillity,SEO)

An optimized URL must not contains useless characters,words or folders (for users and for search engines).As you can see in example below,story şi 24161972 can be easly deleted because those words/folders are useless,they are not bringing any information.

5.The URL contains capitals (duplicate content)

The URLs are case sesitive,which may cause duplicate content problems.The users are tempted to link the version with lower case ,and this thing may affect the other page,considere main page.

It’s indicated to avoid using capitals in URLs ,because this way we will destroy our own page and we will lose this way all the links that normally are sent to our page.

To be succesful in the battle betwen you and Google bots , there are some thing that webmasters shoul do and some things that should not do.To get a position in first 20 Google’s search results,you,the webmaster, should follow some simple steps to be agreed by Google and to get a good position in first 20 search results.
The first and the most important thing that you should do it’s to create an unique site, an site that have something special but the site must not have an complicated structure.

Now let’s talk about the things that you SHOULD DO as webmaster :

-You should use internal link building ( use keywords in your posts and use them as anchor text for other posts on your blog)

-You should avoid backlinks from link farms. ( Read here more about Good Backlinks and Backlinks to avoid )

-You should organize some contests (contest are a good way to get backlinks and get a higher page rank and some visits)

-You should get involved in communities relevant to the content of your site. (Seo forums,Seo blogs)

-You should publish articles on other sites relevant to your expertise.

-You should learn from your competitors.This is very important if you want to be better that others bloggers or webmasters.

-You should try to include a few outbound links to high quality sites in every document.

-You should consider Google as one of your friends,not as one of your competitors.

-You should analyse your log files and see who refers to you the most. The referral information also reveals the keywords used to find your site. (Try to find more similar sites)

-You should make yout post titles relevant to your main keywords.

-You should avoid keyword spamming.

-You should avoid duplicate content.

After those things that you should do,there are many things that you SHOULD NOT DO :

-Do not link exchanges with sites/blogs that are non-relevant for your content.

-Do not place invisible keywords on your page or invisible links (white keywords/links on white background) , Google Bot sees everything.

-Do not submit your blog to Google twice .If you submit your blog to Google more than once you can say “Bye Bye!” to your Rank .

-Do not forget about the Meta Tags , the Meta Tage are the key in SEO .

-Do not get backlinks or do not exchange links with Porn Sites or Warez Sites,those sites are not agreed by Google .

-Do not use unauthorised computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc.

-Do not post too many links on a single page.(the lists may damage your Google rank)

-Do not put ads on it right away – Google marks those sites as suspected “ad farm” sites and won’t index them for a certain period of time

-Do not go for low-quality links with unrelated sites just “to have links”.

-Do not think that any links to your site are good for search engine ranking.

Simple logos vs. Complex logos

From the begging of the post i want to say that I like the simple logos as much as complex logos if those logos are well etablished.When I see a logo i say that “could be better designed” or “that logo could be more interesting” , but every logo have his own advantages,so let’s see which are those advantages :

Simple Logos

-It’s more interpretable

-Usually monochrome or bicolor,this thing could be considerated as an advantage at color branding (did you’ve heard about “red Coca-Cola” ? )

-More easy to be created and used in vector

-Increased sociability

-It’s more easy to integrate it in different forms of branding , like bussines cards,banners or posters

Complex Logos

-Margin of creativity increased

-Wow! factor increased*

-Proper integration in web or on stikers/objects for promotions

-Modern style catches the eye. When you see a complex logo you like it more than a simple logo, but a simple logo may give the impression of a serious company/blog/site .

What is the “Wow! factor” ?

“Wow factor” is the reaction of clients/shareholders or readers when they see the logo.

I’ve read on some sites that Page Rank shows your popularity in the eyes of search engines, but in my opinion,Page Rank shows how appreciated are you as blogger or how important are you as a blogger.Each webmaster or blogger have his own opinion about Page Rank or how can get a higher Page Rank, each person it’s different from others so we can’t have the same opinions.

Google will index your site more frequently.

The higher your Page Rank, the more frequently Google’s spider will visit your site to index your content. Google likes sites that are frequently updated and are very well optimizated so having a good Page Rank means,in the most cases,that your blog is an active blog.A higher PR it helps your fresh content to be shown faster in the search engines and are indexed faster.Not only that, If you are a webmaster who has other new websites that linked to your own high PR website, it will help your new websites been crawled by Googlebot more often and improved the new websites in search engine results.

People purchase ads based on a site’s Page Rank.

If you sell advertising on your site in the form of text links,banners or content links,the price of will be largelly influenced by your PR.When you are selling an text link on your blog,visits matter much less than your Page Rank. When you have a blog with PR 5,you can sell text links even with 20$/month,depends on the niche of your blog.

A high Page Rank makes you look like your site is an “expert” in it’s field.

You will always see in forums and blogs about people saying things like ” How can a seo expert’s blog have a PR0?” or “That site is only PR0!”.An higher Page Rank is considered as a evidence of good promotion of your blog through other blogs or sites.

Take care of your old articles

Your old articles are very important and you must take care of them.Those articles must be kept in the spotlight of your reader and have to remember them at every opportunity.
How you can keep your old articles in the spotlight of your readers ?

There are 3 main ways to keep your old articles in the spotlight of your readers:

1) Internal link building

Internal link building means that you are sending links from your new posts to your older posts.Those links are conisderated like normal links received from other blogs.In the race for external incoming links people often have no time or desire to take care of the internal linking structure.

For example : When I’m linking some words like ” Dofollow list “ to a post , that post will get a backlink,almost as valuable as an external backlink.

I’m using internal link building on my blog and I think that is a very useful link building technique.

2)Use some plugins like “Related posts” plugin

This plugin shows you the most commented posts or random posts. Using the option called “random posts” ,under each article will appear a list with 5 randomly selected posts or using the option called “The most commented” under each article will apear a list with the most commented 5 articles.

This is a simple way to remind your readers of older articles.

3)Update your older posts or lists like my dofollow list

I’ve updated my list for January 2010 and many readers were delighted with the update.All your lists must be updated and re-updated because the things are changing and your articles also must be changed(updated). If an article it’s not updated , your blog will look like an inactive blog and almost all readers don’t like this.
